Easiest option to move from 5.0 to 5.1 - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
Been a long time since i visited this forum but have a bit of a dilemma.
One of my favourite apps now requires i have android 5.1 or higher, so i need to know what is the easiest way to move from Android 5.0 to Android 5.1.
I have looked for another app that supports my phone but they are all rubbish.
I have contacted the dev, in the hope that all it is, is a matter of updating the list of compatible devices, but in case that doesn't come to fruition, am looking at moving to 5.1
I would prefer to keep it as standard as possible, but realise there is no official 5.1 firmware.
My phone is stock n9005 5.0, but rooted with odin chainfire method.
Is there stockish 5.1 and can it be done via recovery or am I going to have to completely reflash via odin and download mode.
Appreciate your help, been so long since i have been down this path have forgotten the intricacies of it all.
Cheers

Samsung S5 - Lollipop - can i downgrade back to KitKat

Hi Guys,
I stupidly got excited and installed the official Lollipop (S5 on THREE UK network) update when i was notified.
BUT...
I want to go back to KitKat as i preferred it (i wont go into reasons why)
Is there a downgrade path for me, either officially or unofficially?> I dont think there is at the moment.
Thanks guys!
Yep, this forum is literally packed with instructions on how to do it, a simple search will bring up what you need
hi thanks, i thought with the new protected bootloader i didnt think it possible.
this is what i read:
Note: The G900FXXU1BNL9 Android 5.0 Lollipop update comes with a protected bootloader it is clearly emphasize that the “SE for Android Status – Enforcing” that might cause issues when you try to downgrade to the old software updates. This also applies if you are planning into rooting and installs any custom recovery and any unsigned firmware once you are on Android 5.0 Lollipop , so please be aware with that.

Yesterday I tried out AllianceROM 6.0 and a few hours ago I went back to 4.4.2 'cause I liked it better than Lollipop. Here's what I did :
1. Enter Download Mode and flash STOCK 4.4.2 KitKat firmware in Odin (I used 3.10.6) and let it start booting.
2. It won't boot, this is normal (I panicked when this happened though ).
3. Go to recovery and factory reset/wipe data your phone.
4. Now hit reboot in recovery and your phone will boot up again (YAY :sun.
5. OPTIONAL : If you've made a nandroid backup before going to 5.0 you can now flash TWRP and restore it over your STOCK 4.4.2 KitKat firmware.
Hope I helped Let me know if it works out for you!
SUCCESS!!!
All sorted.
The hardest part was finding a link to the rom. sammobile kept giving me a gateway 502 error.
im now back to kitkat, AND no THREE UK rubbish.

Quick Q: Should I update my phone to Lollipop?

Hello,
like the topic name says, should I update my phone to Lollipop?
I've read on older topics there are a lot of issues with stock 5.0.1, like lower battery life, lags and other stuff.
There have probably been a few OTA updates that might have fixed those issues?
What are you're guys experience so far with stock 5.0.1?
I'm still on 4.4.2 btw, so far it works great.
If you have i9505. Is recommend updating and flashing @Albe95 S6 Port which is the best current rom for S4

What about stock 5.0.1, yours and other peoples experience?
I just got the phone, so I'd like to keep it stock for now.
No and never update anything your phone in any way!
Update = Problems. Lollipop already proved that.
Hope you have not yet updated !
I haven't updated yet.
So I guess I should stay on 4.4.2 then.
Stay where you are. If you want lollipop go custom or gpe.
I too is still on 4.4.2, might try a custom lollipop

Stay where you are ,Lollipop has battery drain!!!
Thanks for all your input on this guys, I really appreciate it.
Hopefully Samsung will fix it through future updates.

Don't count on Samsung fixing anything in a timely fashion. At this point it's highly unlikely the S4 will ever see Android 5.1.1, especially if Samsung can't even be bothered to update the Google Play Edition S4 to 5.1.1 despite every other GPE phone already receiving it.
If you want a stock-ish custom Android 5.x ROM for your S4, there are at least three decent ones in the I9505 Development section: Imperium ROM, Lollirom, and Albe95's S6 port. Currently I'm using the S6 port as it's the only one of the three that is running Android 5.1.1.
BUMP'ing my old thread a month later because I don't need to create a new one.
Same question, there probably have been a lot of OTA updates after the first 5.0.1 came out on the S4,
is it worth now updating to 5.0.1?
Have the battery issues/lags/whatever problems been fixed?
I'm still on 4.4.2 and I'm tempted to update but I don't wanna get any problems.
The looks and feel of 5.0.1 are nothing if in expense of performance/battery.
Thank you for your time.

No, don't do it. I tried recently. Still crappy (clean install). So I'm back and will stay on KK for this devise. Faster, more reliable and fewer bugs.
DON'T, as others said stay at kitkat or older ,but if need lollipop so badly one of the following (both requires updating to lollipop)=
1.CyanogenMod or cm based ROMs(for touchwiz haters,half stable,recommended=CyanogenMod itself)
2.touchwiz based roms(for touchwiz fans or the people who are trying to be original, sometimes fully stable, sometimes half stable, recommended=able's s6 port or able's lollirom)

Ordered the Verizon S5 and it's coming with 4.4.2. What should I do and not do?

I ordered the AT&T unlocked S5 Active off Swappa from a seller that resells phones from corporate usage. It came with 4.4.2 and some modifications that lead me to believe the company does did not permit upgrades. That said, it was hell to get MTP working on it and it did not read any microSD cards (yes I troubleshot plenty). They offered to replace it and so I have a Verizon S5 (not Active) on the way instead, as I'm hoping for more official upgrade support (Marshmallow this month??).
Aaanyway, regarding root, updates, tips/tricks, etc, any suggestions?
I'm coming from the AT&T Moto X 2013 but have a good deal of experience with roots, mods, etc.

Honestly, it's a very easy procedure I was hunting and hunting when I got mine (about a month ago) so I've done plenty of research.
Mine had 4.4.2 on it as well. There is a downgrade process which is fairly simple and straightforward. It requires using Odin. I also followed a thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/general/tut-root-tripping-knox-t2803951 which helped me a lot. I also read that towelroot isn't working, so I found one set of tools which has towelroot plus v2 and v3. v3 worked for me the second time. Try googling some stuff, there is tons of information, I'm looking for a good ROM or at least a pre-rooted updated stock ROM. I have version 0A8, which is the first OTA lollipop update. I'm looking for a ROM based off of lollipop there are tons based on kitkat kernel thou. CM is working on I think 12.1 So I may downgrade again because the downside to having Verizon lollipop installed, TWRP will no longer work. Stay with kitkat, install TWRP, and go from there, think I'm going back to kitkat to find a decent ROM, I like having recovery. Hope I helped a bit

Helped a ton I was thinking of sticking with the Active so I wouldn't need a case, but with all the development here, I'm glad I switched. And the Verizon model seems to be doing better than the AT&T one in terms of OTAs.
I was on a 4.4.4 for a long time as OTAs lock bootloaders.
I am happily rooted on 5.0 running a TW stock rooted ROM.
Beware of OTAs..... they can kill you. LP is Def better!

Note 4 5.1.1 CF auto Root

Hi All,
I currently have a Note 4 910G that is still 5.1.1 with no OTA updates available.
I have been having dramas with my phone rebooting sometimes every 2 minutes, laggy and generally unresponsive.
I have backed up the phone the best I can as its stock and not rooted. However I was going to factory reset to see if it fixed the issues I am having. I have decided that root and flash may be a better option though as back up is horrible on android and also some added features would be handy (titanium back up and tasker).
My question is I am not 100% across what exact files to use as everything I find is for a different version. I found the CF auto root application, however, I am nervous that the kernel that is listed on their website is based on 6.0.1. I am finding it hard to find the 5.1.1 N910G Kernel to use instead
Will this cause an issue or does someone have the 5.1.1 kernel I can grab prior to flashing.
I hope this makes sense and any help would be much appreciated. Sorry if this has been covered, I have been searching around for a while and couldn't find this specific enquiry.

Help with a troubled Tab 4 7.0! (Downgrade & QA)

Hi community I just need help to figure out what to do with my Tab 4 7.0 the history begins this way:
I get this Tablet already used not brand new it looked to have Android Lollipop 5.1.1 when I got it and didn't appear suspicious and lend it to one of my kids, the problem begins after some time the Tablet didn't connect to the Play Store anymore proly because my kids was trying to root it via KingoRoot or other apps to mess with some games, so after that I decided to solve the problem doing a Hard Reset but it didn't work, the tablet still can't connect to the PlayStore via RH-01 error message.
So I decided to flash it with the official stockl rom from Samsung, my BIG surprise is that this Tablet never get Lollipop 5.1.1 it didn't ever get Lollipop at all accordingly to this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/tab-4/general/links-galaxy-tab-4-official-lollipop-5-t3102844
Because my tablet is the SM-T230NU (the model accordingly to the box is SM-T230NYKAXAR) model and that model never gets LL, so I figure it out this was a modified rom? Even in the Info about the device over settings it says the model of the device i "Nexus 5" instead of Tab 4 or whatever Samsung call this device but not Nexus 5 that is a phone from LG.
So I stopped here, because I've heard it can be dangerous to Downgrade Android versions? If not what should I do? Use Odin3 and flash the rom mentioned in this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/tab-4/general/links-stock-galaxy-tab-4-firmware-t3013128
For the T230NU USA variant? Hope u can advice me about what to do and give some tips because this will be my first flash on a device.
Thanks in advance! :laugh::good:
They probably flashed a custom rom with broken GAPPS, just restore with Odin and the official rom.

By restore u mean flash it with some of the roms provided in this link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/tab...mware-t3013128
So there's no problem if I have 5.1.1 right now and get down to 4.2 as is the official one?
