Call/Media volume Please help.. - Samsung Galaxy S10+ Questions & Answers

Whenever I'm in a whatsapp call YouTube/Twitch and pretty much everything else sounds REALLY bad. The "in-call volume" also acts as the media volume, while the media volume does pretty much nothing.
I can hear voices in videos somewhat but any backgorund sound is pretty much blocked out. I'm using the headphones from the box, I've also tested 3 others headphones and still getting the same problem.
I don't think it's an hardware issue because audio is fine whenever I'm not in a call.
ANY HELP WOULD BE AMAZING.
Found somebody else with the same problem, https://forum.xda-developers.com/s1...nd-goes-problem-network-t3909419#post79690146

Anyone :/ ?

May not help, but there is an option to use the volume rockers only for media volume when you pull down the volume shade to access all the sliders. Is it checked?

Yup :/ I've tried pretty much everything ughhh.
I'm still waiting for this May update to see if that fixes the problem. But because of Wi-fi calling our updates take longer than others according to Three.

Just got a new s10+, yet I'm still dealing with the sound problem...
Could anybody please test the problem I'm having?
Get into a Skype/Discord/Whatsapp call, open YouTube then use the Vol key on the side of your phone, if you're able to lower or higher the YouTube video with the "In-call Vol" then could you please post here?

Notebook can please check ur inbox ? thanks
lollll the both things are on top loll...
you must now that tcmp have in equalizer a pre amplifier that give a litel more son, is threre a pre amplifier to phone?
If the low volume problem is while you're talking on the phone, there is a separate volume control for "in call". Pushing both sliders in the speaker control to the top won't change the "in call" setting. You have to push the sound control rocker on the side of the case while you're actually on the phone to access that one.
My XDA IIs also hv the same problem.
Before I flash the rom it's work fine.
But now the sound, ringtone and even on phone call also very low. But if use headset then it's working fine. Why?

Volume rocker in Youtube and email LED

Hi,
When using the youtube app the volume rocker acts as rewind/fast forward and doesnt change the volume. This is really annoying. Is there any way to change this as I dont want to go into a youtube video, assess the volume of the vid, come out of it and then set the handset volume accordingly.
Secondly, is there a way to enable the notification LED to blink when email is received to the handset? Looked in settings but the option to enable it is greyed out...
Seconded on the YouTube thing. What were they thinking? Any tips?
Indeed.... can't really tell you how much I didnt enjoy loading up a gaga video only to have my ears DESTROYED by beyonce's wailing as she was in the song too
I had the first problem for a while too, here's how I fixed it:
-Download, install and start AEButton
-Disable the volume rocker buttons
-Re-enable them
-AEButton will now tell you that it'll restart the device, let it do so
-Fixed
I don't have HD2 yet, but the HTC volume control should have a custom setting for the Youtube app in order for it to work properly. On other HTC devices, it's under HKLM\Software\HTC\VolumeOverlay\InhouseAPClass\YouTube and should be HKLM\Software\HTC\VolumeOverlay\InhouseEnable2ndUI\HTCYOUTUBE. Do you guys have these keys? If not, you can try to create them and value under them, ClassName=HTCYOUTUBE and Enable2ndOverlay=0 respectively. Also, you could try to go to HKLM\Software\HTC\VolumeOverlay\3rdPartyAPClass, create a key there (name it anything, could be YouTube), and ClassName=HTCYOUTUBE under it. The latter hack allows to have the youtube-style volume control in any application (I use it for CorePlayer, for example).
Hope this will work...
Sigh, just found out that when playing a song under the music tab - and you use the volume rocker, surprise surprise it doesnt actually control the volume at all! It controls the track listings.
Bah! This is a STUPID idea, a shame really!!
WHAT??? Volume rocker doesn't control volume during playback? And how are we supposed to do it?
Correct. Unless it's just mine, but I doubt it?
How to control volume you ask? Well that's simple.
You come OUT of the music application and then adjust the volume, and then go back INTO the application..... Logical.
That's a damn stupid design decision. Beside the inconvenience, music player doesn't need to have the same volume level as the rest of the phone! On my HD I have maximum volume for system/ringer, whereas my music player is set to like 20%. When I plug the headphones in and start it, it's set automatically to this level - otherwise I'd be deaf by now.
And does this happen both with the headset plugged in and without it? Again, on Touch HD you can adjust volume even when the device is turned off while music is playing.
So could anyone check the registry keys I mentioned earlier? Hopefully, it's just a missing setting...
Just read my post again on how to fix it, and no, it's not a design decision, it used to just control the volume for me, it only started controlling playback once I used the mediacontrols on the headset.

Volume Rocker
The Volume rocker works perfectly for me in both YouTube & Music player.
volume keys work for volume in both youtube and music for me..
is there anything you've installed that could interfere?
Hi Fards, great to see you in this thread. You were a valuable asset at ironing out bugs & probs when I was using Itjes Xperia ROM's. I'm sure you will be here too.

Now that just makes it a whole lot worse. I had nothing installed when I tested YouTube originally. Volume controls control cue/reverse. Does that mean unit defective?

Maybe different rom?
Lack of attention to details and throughness so often causes user dissatisfaction.

Possibly. Though its a stock rom sim-free unit. Even if its just a software bug or a rom issue, average Joe (or Josephine) shouldn't have to go hacking the registry, or what not, to fix it. Imagine trying to explain that convoluted series of (potentially disastrous) steps just to make your bloody volume button WORK...
Different roms should not justify this oddity.

See entry 24 for solution here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583638
Indeed, it would appear it is a problem with the headset, damn bizarre.
This is what happened with me anyway...
Listened to music with the headset in and then the volume controls control the track playback, not the volume, whilst you are IN the application. As soon as you come out then yea that's fine it controls the volume again.
When you disconnect the headset, the settings don't seem to revert and once you go back into the music application, the volume rocker still controls the damn playback not the volume......
.... actually i don't know. From using my headset yesterday I've just tried adjusting volume in the music app now this morning and the volume rocker isnt doing ANYTHING when in the music application....
***
Resetting seems to solve the problem, don't know when the problem will re-occur though. To be honest, I don't know how to alter registries and things like that!
oh this is ridiculous there HAS to be a way to fix this.. i dont ever want these to do anything OTHER than volume.
OR have a volume control on the inline
at the moment i have skip controls on the headphones AND skip controls on the side of the phone!

Sound level during calls

I dont know what I am doing wrong but I find the sound level extremely poor for calls
I tried with a bluetooth headset, the outside speaker and the jack with my mp3 headset
it's pretty weird since when I play videos or music I am impressed by how loud I can push the Tab...
I am on AT&T with JMC (but was the same on JM6). And I set the sound at max
anybody has the same issue? Am I doing something wrong? Or is there any sound booster app for calls? (and is it necessary?)
Thanks for your help
My Tab isn't phone-enabled, but since you're new to Android, I thought I should point out that there are multiple volume settings, and in-call volume is one of them. Menu Key -> Settings -> Sound Settings -> Volume should give you all the sliders (Ringtone, Media, Alarm, System, Notification...). There are apps/widgets too that let you get to/change these settings without having to go into the settings menu every time (audio manager has been a decent widget for me). Until you're actually in the call the hardware rocker is usually doing the ringtone or media volume.
When I use mine with Skype 60% is usually blaringly loud for me, and I don't even have the system or media volume maxed out.
Sorry if it's something you know you've done, but thought it might help. If not, maybe someone else has had the same issue and solved it.

yes this I had figured out and set at the maximum
Everything non call related is really strong... It's conversation from normal calls that is ridiculously low
Am I the only one ?? What's wrong with my tab ?
Anyone with an opinion about this ?
Voice-enabled on AT&T with JM6. Have good results with the built-in speakers and cheap Nokia BH-214 stereo Bluetooth earbuds. I ordered the OEM earbuds, but I do understand that the 3.5mm jack port in finicky. Is your Bluetooth 2.1 or newer? Do you have many open applications when trying to place or receive calls? I've notice the sound stutter a bit on the speakers when I've got several apps open.
Here's something I noticed, when in call using my BT Headset, the volume slider sometimes says its on max but the output isnt. Try to lower or increase your volume. Once you hear the max level beep, it gets louder.
Im on a SingTel Tab by the way.

Edit: yeah I can definitely reduce the volume but my max was my actual max. As anybody tried to compare the volume on the speaker when playing music whith the volume on the speaker when on a call... It's like 5 to 10 times higher volume on a call !! And then same issue on a headset

As mentioned I tried it with everything I could... The default external speaker, a simple stereo headset (Not bluetooth), a bluetooth headset. They all give the same. Low volume
If you don't like volume in speaker, headset, bluetooth....You can change settings in "hidden" Audio menu. There you can change volume of individual ouput, but be careful!!!!!
Before change anything, make sure you can put it back the same number if you are not satisfied or have problem ..so wright it somewhere anything you wish to change.
Good Luck with experiment. If I remember correctly(from my old Samsung i780-Windows phone) "TX" settings is for output and "RX" for imput, but I can be wrong, so be careful.

what I do is, when in a call, I lower the volume by about 2, then increase it until i hear the max volume beep. The moment i hear it, the volume on my headset usually jumps up.
I have the same problem with the speaker volume. At maximum you cannot hear it. The bluetooth seems to work OK. IIRC JK5 software seemed to work correctly.

So I guess for you too, music or movies play with a high volume on the speakers whereas for calls it's rather low volume ?
Yes bluetooth or headset I can hear but still quite low volume compared with music...

My problem is specifically for calls. Anything else is fine and working well. That's the weird issue... I dont want to boost the volume for anything else!
That's pretty weird... I have been playing with the tab and I found out that for calls, the highest level I can have (by hear) is two notches below the highest. That's by far the loudest I get (If I push higher the sound decreases)
Am I the only one ? It really pisses me off.... I don't know how it can be like that (I am on JMC ROM after flashing a JM6 ROM over the JK5 from Russia (I am on an AT&T Tab flashed to get phone working)
Someone else get the same experience ?
I can confirm that the max 'in call' volume is two notch below the max !!! And I have the same tab/setting of the OP.
Aren't there some codes you can enter to adjust the volume level on calls and music, etc.?? like the Galaxy S?

Such a stupid bug. Come on Samsung...
FYI it is fixed with the firmware JME
Sound level is much more acceptable and the highest level is not anymore two notched below the max

[Q] Notification ringtone louder after 3.1 update?

After updating my Galaxy Tab 10.1 Limited Edition to 3.1, I noticed that the notification sound was considerably louder... even at the lowest volume. Has anybody else noticed this? Any proposed fixes? Thanks in advance!
open the volume thingy by using the volume rocker then tap the settings looking thing to the right of the volume slider. That should bring up the notification volume level.

I hadn't noticed that. Cheers.
It seems as if my tablet after the update to 3.1 it doesn't play music as loud from the headset Jack. It even gives you a warning about damaging your ears that I don't remember seeing in 3.0.
This a bummer because one of the main things I use my tablet for is playing music on my sterio. Its a great music player but now it seems as if it just won't turn up loud enough.
@onovich
I don't think the music volume was affected with my tab... but, then again, I didn't listen to a whole lot of music on it before the update.
@droiding128
Thanks for the info... I should've mentioned that I'm not a Honeycomb newb, so I was able to turn the notification volume down... but even at it's lowest setting, it's still pretty loud. But it seems like I have a good amount of bugs that nobody else has mentioned on these forums to think that a factory reset might fix them all.
I'll keep you all posted.
Thanks!

Nexus 7 mutes itself and won't un-mute

My Nexus 7 keeps muting the speakers and I the only way I can get it out is to turn it off and on again.
When its muted itself (I don't even know how to mute it) the volume rocker display shows the speaker with a line across it (muted).
Sometimes the rocker won't change the the blue volume level bar and sometimes it will allow me to increase the volume level to maximum but the speaker stays in muted mode.
Anybody have any idea what is going on?

I just got this too. I was playing with Tasker at the time, not sure if it's related.
maybe it is a rogue app
I had the same problem (Google brought me here). I was able to fix it by killing media related programs until the sound came back. In my case the culprit was Netflix. As soon as I killed Netflix, the sound came back and I was able to change the volume again. Hope this helps.

Does anyone know if it's a specific version of Netflix that causes this to happen? I wonder if it's something they know about and are working on.

Hi, could you please give instructions on how to "kill media-related programs" as you describe above on the Nexus 7? I would like to try your suggestion, as my Nexus 7 has no sound. I don't have Netflix installed. Thanks.
