At night the backlight too bright when set to Automatic - it won't go below 30% even when it is totally dark. It seems like this threshold can't be changed. As a workaround, does anyone know if there is a way to make a shortcut to the Backlight settings screen that can be used in Quicklinks, so at least it can be quickly set manually.
try lumos. it works on the hd2
1.
Uncheck the Auto Brightness toggle on the Notification menu.
2.
Settings-> My Device-> Display-> "scroll to the bottom of the list"
Uncheck "Auto adjust screen tone"
Hope this helps!
No Fix
i tried as above but not solved plz help..
I am also suffering this issue (S4 I9505 screen flickering - half screen).
This issue happens for using the low brightness and the power saving option. If you don't have the warranty from Samsung, at the moment these are the options (no solutions) that you can do to avoid the screen flickering:
- Brightness Level (maximum)
- Auto brightness (unchecked)
- Auto adjust screen tone (unchecked)
- Don't use the power saving
- Install "Screen Filter" module in Xposed
I have noticed that the low temperatures affect to this issue, and also the vibrations (after using the bike the first timeS the screen is flickering)
I don't know what causes this issue, if... it is a HW error or a bug after to install something, no idea
If someone knows another solution, please share here! Thanks
When I'm in a light room the screen goes brighter but if I walk into a darker room, the screen doesn't dim unless I lock and then unlock the screen.
Anyone else having similar issues?
Yep got the same here. Thought I had a faulty ambient light sensor but obviously not.

Just tried it by covering the light sensor to make sure, no problem here (G935F). My only concern related to brightness is that the s7 just has auto brightness, but no adaptive brightness.
Uncheck the auto box and recheck. Then don't touch the slider. It's usually because in marshmallow the slider moves with the auto bright and most people touch it which makes it hold position.

There seems to be a bug somewhere still. I just tried to move the slider while auto brightness is ticked and to cover the light sensor afterwards again and it still worked and to my surprise it even took into account that I lowered the brightness and took also a lower brightness at the covered state and took my initial setting after uncovering, pretty nice, so there is indeed still adaptive brightness. After ticking und unticking auto it went back taking the default steps for brightness as before.
Having the same issue here
Definately not touched the slider.
Also, I have tested the light sensor and it appears to work fine so definately a software issue. Though I imagine we will see some software updates to fix bugs shortly after the official release date.
So you can adjust the slider with the box checked and get various levels of auto? Does it learn?

Yes.
I can't tell for sure, when I change further steps the previous seems to stick, at least to some extend so there is a logic behind it, but I can't tell for sure if it really is based on each step and sets it accordingly or if it's just changes the range it operates in. Anyways I'm a happy camper.
Also, I could reproduce the device not changing the brightness, when I put it to full at darkness it won't move anymore in auto. But as soon as I lower it again it will also change accordingly again, maybe at those with the stuck brightness the min brightness is only raised, but not lowered anymore, but just an assumption and doesn't help anyone atm unfortunately.
Use lux in play store

This is the first Galaxy phone I had, that Auto brightness actually works the way I like it.
It seems to be working fine now. It just takes a few seconds for the screen to dim (maybe I was being impatient).
After testing it further it's actually really good auto brightness.
It works, just takes some time to adjust to the lighting. Maybe the default settings are set to a certain time. Maybe with root we can adjust this..

It seems to only do it quickly when the device is lay down (as 954wrecker said). Maybe Samsung did that so it doesn't annoy you when using your phone.
this is definitely a bug imo... the auto brightness doesn't change for me either...

I also have an auto briteness issue, when I disable AutoBrite and set it manually about half my apps override the setting and enable AutoBriteness in the app's screen usually dimming the screen? SpadesFree one example and I do not see an override in the app.
Confimed that I'm having same issue, auto brightness not adjusting and slider not movingoing. Have to move it manually
Same issue. It needs to be fixed manually by editing services.jar (root needed)
Nothing else will work. None of google play apps will help with that issue. Does not matter what you do, it will always dimming if you don't fix it in framework.jar
Try it out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/development/auto-brightness-bug-try-fix-t3339858
Got my hands on a S7 Edge these days, and I noticed the auto brightness does absolutely nothing. If I tick it and move the slider / shine a light on the light sensor / cover the light sensor, nothing happens, the brightness stays the same. Only way to adjust brightness is with auto off.
I decided to re-flash (emergency mode) with Kies and it worked the first time after the phone booted up, but after a reboot, it's back to not working.
Tried it another time with another software from sammobile, this time with Kies, it didn't work the first time, then after 10 minutes it did work but after a reboot it was gone. So these events are very unreliable / weird and therefore it is hard to assume a logical conclusion after what happened.
PS: Did many factory resets, both from phone settings and recovery, to no success. It just does not work.
PS2: Tested the light sensor with the diagnostic menu (*#0*#) and it is working correctly. It says 0 lux when I cover the sensor, and different positive values (from 20-50-100 to several thousands) when I shine different lights on it.
If you have any suggestion, I'd be glad, it's driving me crazy.
Mine has started doing the same thing, if I do the diagnostic, though, nothing changes the lux value of "0". However, after leaving that menu, and going back to regular, if I untick and then tick auto, it works, for a while... Can't figure out what is wrong...
Anyone else have this issue.
Does not work for me when using YouTube and wanting to switch from portrait to landscape.
Very frustrating
Just me then?
I'm sure you checked the auto-rotate is enabled.
On my side, I also have to manually press the full screen icon on YouTube app from time to time like 80% of the time, the rotation is automatic
Yes have it enabled. Have tried switching on and off as well as switching phone on and off.
I've noticed also now that if I'm looking at photos they do not rotate either
I'm having the same issue. I have reset the setting multiple times, restarted phone, and tested the gyroscope ability. It just doesn't auto rotate anymore & it's definitely annoying.
