Redmi Note 7 Global Version - Camera light issue - Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Questions & Answers

Hello,
I would like to ask if anyone has encountered the following issue:
When I try to make night photos with light gathering in Pro mode, the camera gathers too much light. Now I try the following settings: WB - Auto; Focus Auto/100; Shutter 4/8/16 seconds; ISO 100 in 48 MP mode. Now what I get with this configuration is too much light absorption. Pictures get really yellow and bright around any light sources. This makes taking pictures of car taillight trail for example impossible.
Now before you say to try different settings - I have. I also have the PRO version of the phone, and pictures are being way way better with the exact same settings. I will upload some examples as soon as I have them on my PC.
Has anyone encountered such an issue with the stock cam app?? Any way to fix it?? Any better cam app that might help out?? Can this be a faulty camera all together and should I contact the seller? (phone bought from China so you can figure how that will go).
Thank you very much in advance

i had exposure problems!
but i used gcam and the camera of lightroom for normal usage and its been good so far
the images of stock camera felt lil bit unnatural to me
yeah! gcam and camera of lightroom would be good
the video recording was too much annoying for me mainly for the crop and noise in the video
and ive been using open camera for video recording which is producin 100 times better result than stock one
even gcam had problem with video recording

Thank you very much. Do I need the phone rooted to use those??Also can you provide links for the gcam / opencamera video recording apps, as well as any configuration you find good?
It just seems strange that 2 phones with presumably same sensor, can make such different photos with the same settings. Yes one is RN7 and the other is RN7P, but still they should have identical cameras.
Thank you in advance!

that is fundamentally incorrect. it's almost as if saying all 12mp sensors on every mainstream phone out there should be same as they output the same 12mp images.
rn7 has samsung isocell gm-1 sensor, which is unproven compared to the sony imx586 on the rn7p. there will be differences for sure.

Hmmm I thought both versions of the phones use the same Sony sensor. Was I wrong in assuming that? I'm pretty sure that's what I've red in the review of the phone.

[Q] Camera Issues: Skewed Images

Is it just me or has anyone noticed that the photos taken with the default camera app is a little skewed at the edges?
The camera is great for macro shots but when shots are taken from a distance, I can't help but notice that the subjects on the edges get distorted or stretched.
It would be nice if we shared our experiences on this. After all, this phone was touted to have the best camera at the time of the launch.
Thanks.

I feel this may be a hardware issue and not just a software glitch as I have noticed the same distortions with the in-built Charm Cam App. It could possibly have something to do with the lens alignments or maybe it's just an isolated case with my phone. But I have no means to verify my allegations as I don't have another phone to carry out comparisons.
In any case, I request other owners to please share your findings with regards to the image quality on this camera.

The primary reason i found for noise is that iso gets too high in auto mode.it might just be software issue. But we dont have other phone with same hardware(OV 16825)
Since kernal sources are avilable i hope they provide some light
Also as the camera is capable of [email protected] 60fps i would like if some dev removes this constrain of [email protected]

I took a 1080p video and found no distortion along edges this in theory proves it is not due to hardware problem i.e. lens alingment

who said we dont have image stabilization...check the ov16825 details on website..it has EIS..i know its not that great compared to OIS or OIS+...and for ur question y ppl want 4k videos...they can record 4k videos which they can preserve as a memory for later on...why we click pics record video for capturing memory only na...i know getting a 4k TV is not easy as it cost too much...but if the system has the functionality why cant we enable it with the powers of devs...

Galaxy S7 camera trembles

Hi all,
I haven't been used any phone which have optical image stabilization (OIS). I decide to buy a new Galaxy S7. I come to a store and give some tests. When I zoom in and take some photos using volume down button, I see camera trembles. When I restart the camera app, everything is back to normal. This happened twice.
Please help to check this video:
(sorry that I don't have enough 10 posts to post link here)
youtube.com/watch?v=7yhz4S7mM5g
So, it's a major problem or is it ok? Why did the camera tremble? And does this happen to other phone which support OIS camera?

It should be for the camera too. Ois is mechanical is it not? So if its video or pictures it should stable out. I would think

I just did it. Seemed pretty stable to me. It's going to move a little bit but it wasn't jerky. It was more of smooth left and right ups and downs

Turn off Video Stabilization in the settings, because that is software stabilization. It will switch to OIS if you turn it off.
IOS is always on for photos or video. here is a good look.. go to 6:15
I don't think you can turn off ois. It's literally a floating lense. All it does is reduce micro movements you make by letting the lense float and not react immediately with your body movements. If you point it at something and move slightly you will notice it takes a second to sort of drift over on screen. Pretty cool.

Port of Google camera with HDR+

Anybody trie dit on their snapdragon S8+ (Or S8)?
I doubt it will make an amazing difference, since the S8 is already quite good in that department but that could still be interesting. I suppose that on one hand you have Google's superior algorithms, on the other hand they are not fitted to S8 hardware and you probably lose OIS....

HDR+ works? I would be quite surprised.
Yes, it works. I'm not sure how "proper" (because I can not say that pictures are masterpieces) it works, but I can enable that feature, take shot, wait a bit ("hdr processing" message) and get slightly different photo. Process is same as on pixel/nexus. App is stable, no crashes.
Btw, on hdr+ photo info it states that photo is made on nexus 6, and on regular shots in same app - galaxy s8+

I have it and it works well. Google's processing has added a tiny bit more noise compared to Samsung but Google's colors are more realistic (which I prefer) while Samsung's are much too bright/vibrant

I noticed a more noisy image. I dont think its preferable.
My own opinion is that the Hdr is not working properly with this google camera.
You who had the Nexus phone could you take a photo and verify the noise?

It's really not that bad. I could attach comparison photos if you want.
Edit: I'm also using the updated mod (noise reduction) that allows 1080p60fps video
Edit 2: Took some more photos. In daylight to medium/dark lighting, Google's camera seems to take better pictures. I noticed that Google is able to add more detail to the clouds when contrasted with ex: large buildings/trees while Samsung's camera seems to overexpose images and leave the sky almost white.
But for nighttime photos, Google's camera definitely has much more noise. I guess it's a trade off.
Edit 3: Took even more photos with many different lighting/contrasts. Not sure which app I like the best. Sometimes Samsung photos are too bright (but can be partially fixed by darkening the photo) and sometimes the colors seem pretty natural. Samsung's camera has consistently sharper photos than Google. Also with higher contrast, the sky using Google camera is an unaturally deep blue, making the image look artifical/fake.

Ok thanks for the comparison. Good to know. Im not sarcastic.
What is more interesting yet is differance betwean Google Camera on nexus vs google camera on the s8+
If anybody could take identical pix on nexus vs s8+ and see if the photo from nexus have the same noisines as our s8+ have.

As far as I understand there are several versions, using different versions of the Google algos (Nexus 6, 5X, Pixel have different processing due to different HW)
This version works on my Samsung Galaxy S7 edge Exynos version.. can you tell me where to find the follow up for this version in case there is an update .. I tried more than 50 versions of this application this is the first one to be working on my Samsung Galaxy S7 Exynos version thanks a lot

But version has lots of notice in low light ... I think a better version is out there ..
Most of the version are for Snapdragon . This is the only working version I found for Exynos .. now just we have to find a version which reduces notice and implements the HDR+ property

Photo quality

Say "cheese", then rate this thread to express how photos taken with the Moto X4 come out. A higher rating indicates that photos offer rich color (without over-saturating), sharp detail (with all subjects in-focus), and appropriate exposure (with even lighting).
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
I have an S8 too and these cameras are right up there. Plus I love the extra effects like bokeh. The sensor looks cool too.

Could easily be a five star camera. It's definitely better than the G5 Plus and challenges my S8.

Same sensor, darker lens. The x4's camera is weaker than G5 plus's in paper. Fortunately X4 is compatible with Google HDR+. I took amazing photos with it.

Hej there,
I recommended this phone to a friend after reading some reviews and they all mentioned how good the camera is.
But my friend is not very happy with the photos. The quality is great but any (even little) movement results in a blurry pictures, which is very annoying.
But see for yourself: https://photos.app.goo.gl/PJ4jJUZ1FBgaSV586
(Note: these pictures have been sent via Whatsapp to me)
No review mentioned that. Maybe its a layer 8 issue
Any ideas?
Thank you

Try with HDR off, if it isn't alreadym but Gcam will probably solve this. Much better night performance, faster shutter times etc. Also has proper video stabilization.
Since complaints about the camera are often posted on forums, here is my setup although it is not the best possible anymore, as I am using the same old/outdated Gcam version since several months. Once I get the Pie update I will test Gcam 6 with night mode. For now, I am using cstark27_Gcam_5.1.018_24_v3.8 ( https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/f/cstark27_GCam_5.1.018_24_v3.8.apk ) . Image quality is good, although the pictures are sometimes a bit flat so I have to do some post-editing in Snapseed to increase contrast/saturation. Other/newer gcam versions have settings for saturation etc.
I have changed a some of settings, I think most important changes are:
In submenu Advanced:
> HDR+ control ON
> Model: Pixel 2 XL (Taimen)
> Exposure time: I often change it depending on the situation, if you want to avoid motion blur (like you have in your examples), put it on 'Fast' or 'Slow', I often put it on Very Slow because I am mostly taking stills
> Frame count: Default or Medium should be fine, although I set it to Super High if I want to take night shots
Then in your main camera interface (with the viewfinder) you have an HDR toggle on top, use HDR+ on in normal conditions or if the subject is moving fast, use HDR+ Enhanced in difficult conditions.
I never compared it to a high-end phone but I'm pretty statisfied with the camera. Really low light is tricky and OIS would have been great but for the price I bought it performs well (and the wide angle cam is a nice bonus too, although it lacks detail).
Can't wait to get Pie so I can experiment with newer Gcam versions.
I think we can all agree that stock camera app is scheisse, but the hardware is pretty competent, with a nice gcam port photos come out lookin great. I use 6.1.021v.0.1TlnNeun and it worked great since 8.1 (I'm now on Pie). I think it might be this but we can also try this one.
Cheers.
Best Google Cam port for my Moto X4
I have a Moto X4 Android One model XT1900-1 and have tried several .apk that would crash after taking a Night Sight photo, or if successful in taking a Night Sight photo would then crash when trying to close out of Night Sight mode and returning to the normal camera. The .apk I'm suggesting comes with it's own presets but I found that it produces too much noise in my medium/low light photos (with the normal cam, not night sight mode). Also, after changing the defaults it seems more responsive. While testing for yourself don't forget to clear the app's cache after crashes and if making changes to the camera types in the base settings you need to reboot. The most important thing is that this .apk is very stable on my particular phone. I don't know about all the other functions. All I care about is normal camera mode as well as night sight mode. Thank you to the developers!

camera problem

1. When i try taking pictures using the stock camera app i get a full view but when i try to record a video i get a zoomed in view. Why is that?
2. In indoor lighting when i try to record a video it continuously shifts from blurred view to clear view. Why?
Is it only on my phone or in every phone?
If you know anything about this please reply.
Update: found the solution for first problem. It's because of image stabilization being turned on. But can't we record a stabilized video in full view?

1. Its due to EIS. It works on cropping out the video to provide a stable video. If you had OIS hardware on the phone, the video would be full view.
2. Autofocus issues. Try other camera apps and see. Like Open Camera App.

Autofocus issue only happens on stock camera. Is there any way to fix it?

I haven't found any solution yet. If anyone find anything please post here so that it can help others like us.

Nope
Just stick to other cameras like Google camera port. Its the best I have seen as of now for our phones. The stock camera is a snapdragon camera. Nothing can be modded as of now

You can record a video, open Google photos and then stabilize it. The output might not be great for super shaky videos but it will do the magic of almost all videos without cropping much
