How do I fix this problem with booting to system? - Moto G4 Plus Questions & Answers

Hi,
I have the issue that my g4 plus won't boot at from boot loader. I have flashed the 8.1.0 stock ROM, but am unable to boot into the system. It just boots to the dead android no command screen. I have tried the other methods in other threads to no avail. I also tried ADB side loading but it didn't work either as it did not recognize the .zip. Does anyone have any solutions?

If you try to flash the 8.1.0 stock rom it needs to be extract from the zip. You cannot flash the zip like a custom rom. But that's explained in the instructions in the first post.
Please make this sure.

Latest OTA update - Help needed

Hi all,
I have a bit of an issue with the latest OTA update currently being pushed out and looking for help how best to proceed.
I have unlocked and rooted the phone previously and recovery is TWRP. My phone is encrypted.
When I accepted the updated the phone rebooted and showed the TWRP splash screen which flashes on and off endlessly. If I turn the phone off and on again it restarts fine but after a few seconds the update process starts again. I am currently stuck in this loop.
Any advice as to how I can get out of this without wiping my phone?
I am wondering if I could flash the standard recovery to remove TWRP if this would work. Could it and if so, where can i get the standard recovery image.
Thanks and sorry of this is already covered, I searched but couldn't find it.
For XT1575.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-style/development/pure-firmware-tuff-wip-t3224833
If you want to update be on stock rom i.e. unrooted and no xposed, nothing added or removed from system and also flash stock recovery.
After successful update flash twrp.
So, if I want to install the lastest update it's enough to unroot, remove xposed and flash stock recovery? Or it's better to flash full stock through fastboot?
So I managed to find a link to the full image for my device (XT1572 so the above link wouldn't work to the best of my knowledge - but thanks anyway @Hitti2)
I flashed the standard recovery and rebooted which stopped the endless loop. The update still fails to install but I can live with that for now.
I'll investigate further what I need to do to get the update to take properly but for now I have a functioning phone which is a good start to the day.
Thanks all.

Final installment. Update installed and a good. For anyone who stumbles across this with a similar issue, here is what I had to do.
Flash stock boot and recovery images to remove root and TWRP.
Reboot and let the update install.
Reflashed TWRP and SuperSU (both of which are now newer versions)
Job done. Now I know for the next update [emoji6]
There is a whole thread dedicated to this update in general.

Maybe there is but as I stated in the OP, I couldn't find the right information at the time of posting. Maybe helpful would be to also link the thread as it may help others.
@lafester could you link thread please.

Boot image?
Thanks for this info. I'm definitely still unable to install this update. I am stock, unrooted. I have flashed the stock recovery image, but not the boot image. Can you please point me to where i can find the stock boot image?

@evandena not that one. That is for a different model, I needed the firmware for the XT1572.
@chuck-fu I found a post here on XDA with a list of download links for various versions. I will dig out the link shortly and post it when I have access to my PC.
I extracted but the recovery and boot image files from that package. What you need are the images as close to possible from what is currently installed on your phone.
Edit: Here is the link to the thread with many Moto X Style images... Hopefully this will help
[Firmware] Moto X Style/Pure Stock Software
Thanks so much for trying to help. I went ahead and flashed the boot and recovery files for my model. I did the Boot image first, no luck. then i did the recovery, and this time andy thought a bit longer before giving me the Error! message. And then instead of my phone doing an autoreboot, it was stuck on the dead Andy and I needed to do hold down the power button to get it to shut down.
Anyone have any additional thoughts?

I was having same issue. I am stock, rooted, unlocked bootloader.
Currently using TWRP 3.0
In order to update with the new OTA you need to find a download of the .zip files and manually install it.
If you try to do OTA update it will just keep getting stuck in recovery. To get out of this just cache wipe and reboot.
This phone has never been able to take OTAs for some reason. I wish I understood why. I tried to leave the thing stock to keep things simple, but it wasn't to be... anyway...
Thanks for the advice. Any idea where to get a download of the .zip files (is it really more than one zip file, or was that a typo)? I tried searching, but can't seem to find the right things to search for.
Also, once i have the zip file(s):
1) Do I just install it via TWRP like any other zip file?
2) to get rid of the OTA prompt, do i wipe the cache and reboot before or after i install the update via the zip?
Many thanks!

I managed to update via OTA flashing the stock recovery, boot and system chunks. This is the procedure I do to update my wife's Nexus 5 and worked for the Moto X Style too. Remember to make a backup before in case something goes wrong.
Thanks for the info- what version do you have? I have the 1575 RETUS and can't find the system file. Is that basically flashing an entire ROM? Sorry, but i've flashed boot and recovery files before, as well as full ROMs but don't ever remember flashing a system file on its own.
Thanks!

I have the 1572 RETEU, but you can find the stock firmware here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-style/development/pure-firmware-tuff-wip-t3224833
If it's like the stock firmware that I have for the 1572 it should have all the img files and the system chunks. You just need to flash all the chunks like this:
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.0
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.1
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.2
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.3
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.4
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.5
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.6
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.7
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.8
This has to be done because Marshmallow doesn't allow any modification in the system or the boot image, and will not proceed with the OTA if the ROM is not full stock.
EDIT: You will not loose any data, but any modification to the system partition will be undone.

Thanks for your help once again. I manually flashed the system files like you listed, but for whatever reason, i'm still getting the same old Error. I'm pretty sure I'm on a stock ROM.
From this site: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-style/development/pure-firmware-tuff-wip-t3224833
I have flashed the XT1575 6.0 boot.img, recovery.img, then from the firmware, extracted the 8 sparsechunk files and flashed those as well. I still get the ERROR after a few seconds of trying to load the OTA.
Any other ideas by any chance? Did you do any kind of wiping in there somewhere? Did you just let the normal OTA try installing from within Android?

I just let the normal OTA install after flashing system, boot and recovery, without wiping any partition. Maybe you can try a flash all the zip to make sure it's full stock and see if the OTA install. Just make a backup before in case nothing change.

PLEASE HELP!!! Phone stuck in bootloop, will not boot. Will not boot into recovery.

I've had my Moto X Pure for over a few months now. After rooting it, i installed TWRP 3.0.2 and have had different roms and not come across any problems regarding a hard brick. I was using my phone on the CM 13 Rom, and it was bugging out, so i tried to reboot. After trying to reboot, it would come to the WARNING BOOTLOADER UNLOCKED SCREEN and not boot past that, let alone get into the actual loading screen. Now, i cant boot into twrp. When i try to enter recovery mode, it goes to the TWRP screen, and sits there without proceeding. I cant boot the phone, or boot into recovery. I can only boot into the bootloader. ANY AND EVERY ADVICE IS APPRECIATED THANK YOU!!!
Edit: I fixed it. had to manually extract and reflash some files from a very useful restore to stock tool.

If your able to boot into bootloader you can try to reflashTWRP or flash the original recovery and the original system files.

Can you get it into fastboot mode? If you can, it sounds like somehow the recovery is corrupt and you would need to use 'fastboot erase recovery' first, and then 'fastboot flash recovery recovery.img' (using the twrp .img flashable file of course)
I hope that does the trick. Only think I can think of other than that is look for the automated return to stock tool for the moto x 2015 and use that.
thanks

Can you tell us what fixed it? Do you know if it was firmware related? Was it the recovery? I have multiple people on this device all on custom software, always interested to find the cause of these types of issues for future reference. And most importantly, glad you got it resolved!

I honestly have no idea what the problem was. But i downloaded and used someones lollipop restore to stock tool, literally restoring to the original state you got the phone in, and it worked. I believe it had something to do with the rom, and possibly some xposed modules i had installed, but there was nothing that actually messed around with the phone's system files. I couldn't access recovery in anyway whatsoever, but my advice to you is that if you ever need help because the phone is potentially hard-bricked, see if it connects to PC and if it does use the restore to stock tool.

It was hash kernel it corrupted all 64 gigs of storage and music etc. Had to return to stock via auto flash firmware.
Mine is XT1572 device. Since the mentioned tool was not available for this model, I took the chance with XT1575 tool. It did all the steps but the issue has become worse. Now, my device is automatically getting On and OFF in seconds and does not boot beyond the bootloader 'unlocked' warning screen. Please please please help !!!!

[HELP] Moto G PLus 4 booting only in recovery, not system

Hi,
I just unlocked the bootloader of my Moto G Plus 4 via adb, and after that I switched it on, it worked fine and I transferred SuperUser.zip into my phone's internal memory, and then tried to flash it through recovery, (following the sleps I read somewhere), since then my phone is not rebooting - it is rebooting into bootloader and I can enter recovery as well, but Im not able to reboot my phone. The device is being detected via adb when it is in recovery mode, but not in bootloader. Is this issue fixable? Please help me fix this.
EDIT: I forgot to mention, I'm not getting the boot animation as well. I press the power key and nothing at all happens.

You got into bootloop, just download the stock ROM and then flash it again, follow any guide over XDA or see YouTube for more help. Flash ROM without locking bootloader will be good.

Yes that is what happen after unlocking Boot loader, just flash the stock ROM using any tutorial over XDA without locking the boot loader and then follow the proper instructions to root your mobile. Rooting is very easy on Android N. So I will say flash android N and then proceed.

First thing, your query doesn't belong to the development thread. It should had been created in "Questions and Answers"
Second thing, if you flash supersu on stock rom it won't boot due some security measures of Moto. Instead flash ElementalX kernel first and then flash supersu.

You can try one thing if you have twrp and your phone is booting into recovery then do this.
Download any custom rom based on Android N, don't go with RR for now as it is not for newbie cause new build has some issue while flashing.
Download the gapps recommend the opengapps Nano package from the opengapps.org.
Place both zip on your sd card and boot into recovery and then wipe everything like, system, dalvik cache, cache, system and then install the both zip, first rom and then install gapps. Then reboot. I hope it will fix the bootloop issue.

What did you mean by your device not being detected in bootloader mode. Did you install the right drivers. Did you install minimal adb and fastboot. Can you do the below steps and tell me the result.
1. Download the drivers from here.
For Windows: http://www.devfiles.co/download/5eEx...ager_2.5.4.exe
2. Download the Minimal ADB and Fastboot = https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=745425885120698566
3. Install Minimal ADB and Fastboot = https://forum.xda-developers.com/sho....php?t=2317790
4. Restart the Moto G4 in fastboot mode. (Bootloader mode)
5. Connect the Phone to the computer.
6. In adb fastboot folder shift+right click and then in the pop up click "open command window here"
7. In the command line type: "fastboot devices"
Seeing your serial number means we know all is good and your phone is connected and you can go on flash the stock firmware. If the serial number is not showing, the drivers are not properly installed.

Try with wiping everything, wipe system and internal storage as well, I know your important data will be gone but it will be worth a try. Try with other pc or change the port for data cable. It seems your system partition got corrupted, also you can mount system partition under twrp and then try to format it.

When in TWRP, go to Mount and see if system is ticked or not. If not, mount the system and wipe it. Then flash the rom again. BTW which TWRP version are you using. From where you get it.

So that is the problem. You have to install TWRP latest version. Version 3.0.2 r4 or higher by shreps will work for you. You can find it here. https://forum.xda-developers.com/mo...covery-twrp-3-0-2-r3-moto-g4-g4-plus-t3494337
The latest version is 3.0.3 n4. Flash it, mount the system and everything will be good for you

As @nazim7 suggested you to flash the latest TWRP and then try to flash the rom again, also you can try to resize the partition and try to format it from twrp from the option in twrp. Just let us know what the result come back.

There's one more problem like I've mentioned previously. I have the latest drivers even then the device is not being detected via adb when in bootloader, but as soon as I boot into recovery, the device shows up on adb after command. How do I flash the recovery if the device doesn't show up in bootloader on adb?

When Android Keep Booting Into TWRP Recovery

The answer for me when I had this happen in September was to simply flash the Magisk zip file from the TWRP recovery after one of the many loops that it had done
(and I had tried everything else - reflashed TWRP from both fastboot and recovery many times, re-flashed the Google Pixel full image via the flash-all.bat file a few times, etc).

Bootloop after flashing twrp

Hi xda,
I'm new into the world of flashing so any help would be nice.
I used this tuto:
https://rootmydevice.com/tutorials/root-samsung-galaxy-a40/
and downloaded twrp image from this post:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-a40/development/recovery-twrp-galaxy-a40-t3968586
After flash phone restarted as intented but it keeps booting, I tried also some methods how to enter recovery mode while bootlooping but they didn't work out. I also want to flash pixel experience rom.
Thanks for any help provided.
Use the TWRP from this thread.
Your TWRP is not working anymore with actual firmware.
