Fellow Z2 Plus users,
We have always seen discussion about best rom..with features x,y,z etc etc. Now when one says best, which is quite subjective depending upon user, mostly focus is around all the features/customizations of the world and not to mention best battery, best performance and what not.
Here I am flipping the question and seek feedback & suggestions from fellow Zuk Z2 users on the ROMs which they find :
1) Least buggy - given some bugs will be always there
2) Stable - suitable for daily use with no surprises
3) Battery Optimized for performance but with priority being battery
4) Suitable for Daily Regular Use - wallets, bank apps, sync, 4G / wifi, good photos
So while the suggested ROM might not have few missing features (like ViLTE) and might have only limited customizations, but it remains overall robust and stable enough to be used regularly for next few months.
I agree that regular updates are good to have but then with development moving to P soon, the current build of suggested ROM should be such that without updates it should work fine
Request if fellow users can suggest their preferred ROM(s) on above criteria with at least minimum details of ROM like name, version and the build.
If further details can be provided like what is missing (say ViLTE etc) it will be wonderful for others! Thanks in advance to all for their feedback.
Sorry if this is a repeat but think at this juncture when the transition is about to happen to Android P we should have a list of stable roms handy.
EDIT 16th July 2020 :
It is close to 2 years since thread was started and discussions are still ON thanks to loyal users. Also if I may say, part credit also goes to phone's good build quality that it is still worth using for many
When this thread was started, we were in initial days of developers transitioning from Oreo to Pie ROM and today, we already have loads of Q ROMs.
Having said that, general preference, if we need a stable balanced ROM is to continue on Pie ROMs versus Q ROMs - no surprises here !!

I had to use Activity launcher app for that meny because its hidden on miui 11 lol. If u also need that app, type in search network then find under settings - MORE. There u will find option.
Im glad u r happy with your device mate... I was considering Realme 6 Pro but I didnt like that 2 cameras in left corner. I like to see notifications there . So i decided to go with Xiaomi
Also here, it is the same, miui is heavy but apps stay in memory mostly, 6 gb LPDDR4X RAM, 64 GB UFS Storage 2.1. I couldnt find 128 GB model but i dont need it anyway, I would have buy it just because small difference in price. Cameras are real upgrade over Zuk, I also installed Gcam. Amoled is nice also.

Thank you for the work around.. I tried the non root method in adaway but wasnt that good.. changing DNS works much better.. I even updated this in my router..
I also don't like hole punch.. water drop notch is ok..
Hope all cameras are able to use GCam..
Your trick for miui worked as well.. Thank you again for that.
Stay safe and keep modding
Feedbacks Summarized
Thanks to all for sharing feedbacks/experiences. I am summarizing below, with focus on Oreo ROMs!.
EDIT 16th July 2020 : in last 2 years, we have also seen good development in terms of Pie & Q ROMs. So now we have some recommendations on stable and good for daily use Pie ROMs too
OREO ROMs (update basis discussions till Nov'18)
Resurrection Remix RR 6.2.1 Oreo is considered good by most - received feedbacks from @seking @Thisisaarush @Z750z @NaXal
One open issue: No auto call record
It has loads of Customizations, the final build released updated with Oct'18 security patches.
MIUI 10 ROM seems to be a good choice too as per feedback from @sivaramareddy @sidS6
It is stable and has good battery life
AEX 5.7 Oreo seems quite good as per feedback from @Vishwanath01 @sivaramareddy @suvankar.smart
They have not shared much details but what I see is that v5.7 is recommended by all even when the latest is v5.8. This ROM not updated after Aug'18
Download from versions availablehere
Jaguar Oreo is recommended as per feedback from @sanjay.2704 @seking @mGforCe
There seems to be battery issue/lag after couple of weeks of use. But with the entirely rebased ROM released, there are lot of hopes. Finally VoLTE working too - was broken since June build.
Hopefully the battery issue is resolved after few builds of the Rebase ROM. Having said that - this ROM is worth watching for!! The best thing is that dev is updating atleast once a month. With issues being reported, he updated within few weeks too!!
Pls note that have considered only those comments which had some level of details. Also there were more recommendations but since supported by only 1 user not included in the summary.
PIE ROMs (update basis discussions till Jun'20)
[Official - k4.4 // Beta - k4.9] AOSiP Pie is considered good by many and am @mGforCe using for last few months.
One open issue: Think Miracast doesn't work. The final build released has Sep'19 security patches. Link here
[ROM][9.0][TREBLE] SuperiorOS is also recommended one and we have @vuckovic_stefan using in on and off (when not trying other ROMs )
The final official build released has Oct'19 security patches. Link here
There is also an unofficial build released with Apr'20 security patches. Link here, credits @vuckovic_stefan
Bootleggers and Cardinal lastest. I have no idea about Volte because we don't have it here.
AOSP Extended 5.7 latest
Aosip rom is a clear winner, It's the best in every sector.. !
For me, as of now... Latest AEX 5.7 seems pretty stable and Recently I have tried one ROM that totally amazed me.... MIUI 10 ROM. It's very stable, considerably less heat with great performance and great battery life (6.5 -7 hrs SOT with Normal to Medium usage which include Browsing, Streaming, Instant Messaging etc). Coming to Gaming especially PUBG is a lot less laggy when compared to other ROM's when played with HD settings.
So, apart from the latest AOSP Extended(AEX) 5.7, I would recommend to try the latest MIUI 10 ROM too...
Thanks for sharing feedback

BootleggersROM 2.3 (8.1.0) dated 08-07-18
Cardinal-AOSP 5.7 (8.1.0) dated 14-07-18
Any issues/bug noted at all? This will help in collating feedback with known issues etc.

MIUI 10 ROM - hmm, interesting. For my own Redmi Note 3 always moved out from MIUI to AOSP / LOS roms . Will be interesting to try. Again, for completeness, any issues/bugs noted/known here?
Between MIUI / AEX which will be one you choose?

Reserruction Remix os, the best and most stable rom from all,,,,???

Hello,
Most of the ROMs here are pretty stable as daily driver. Some are little better with some aspect of usage, like for example, in general, non treble ROMs better with heavy games like PubG compare to Treble. Now that doesn't mean treble ROMs suck with PubG, its just marginally lower grfx details for smoother playing exp.
Ever since introduction of treble, for last few months, I have been only with treble, so I can only comment on Treble ROMs. I have tried PE, AEX, AiCP, RR (Treble), crDroid and let me tell you all are equally good. However, having said that, few lose their edge time to time with some random update and it happens with all. So as an user, you will find your self switching between few time to time.
All these ROMs easily offer 6 hours 30 mins or more SoT for daily use (except heavy gaming). Game on them and SoT will come down based on how hard you are playing. Usually for heavy gamer, SoT is around 4 hours or bit less. All these ROMs have everything function, from finger print to Bluetooth.
At present, I am with RR 6.1. Switched from AiCP since at this point, for few previously weekly, AiCP is having some performance issue. Not that its slow, but RR feels little better compare to AiCP. Who knows, may be with next weekly, AiCP may out perform anything else.
Biggest point is, thanks to all these hardworking devs, I am spoiled with choices. So many of them. All are equally good but with some many options, I am spoiled to write comparison even for these slightest issues.
So its really hard or would be unfair to name single ROM to sum up the answer !!
Thanks.

Consider me a typical dumbass phone user. I strive for a functional device which allows me fast performance and all features should work fine. I don't like poking with things unless they are broken as like your question, I am looking for stability and I am willing to sacrifice bit of performance edge for that.
Now regarding improvement, what to compare with is the biggest question. If you want to compare this with Stock Indian ZUI 2.5 (Indian), its a heaven and hell of a difference !! But if you talk about other contemporary ROMs, there isn't much to separate them. It would come down to your personal choice of flavor .
Consider this buying a litter class super bike or super car in India. Anything you buy would be light years ahead of what average Joe is riding but when you want to chose between similar option, it would ultimately come down to personal preference !!
Regarding my setup, I am with the latest Version of RR 6.1 Treble (without any extra mod or kernel) + Open GApps Nano. Running Apex Launcher v3.3.3 along with Pixel Icon Pack (from Play Store). I have mentioned my issues or liking in that respective thread !!
Thanks.

I am using Liquid Remix [8.1] [v9.1.4] [OFFICIAL] [08/10/2018][NON-TREBLE]
I listen to music and after installing viperfx magix module and modded you tube my requirement is met. Along with this I also use on application called "The Raging Beast KA" , see screenshot, which allows kernel level tweaking of sound ie increasing sound of left channel and right channel separately and it gives excellent sound. I also require volte as I use jio sim and net speed should be fast.
So the above are my requirements and everybody has their own requirements. All ROMs stable. But they differ on the following
1 heat. Some ROMs heat up
2 performance.
3 tweaks. Some ROMs contain more tweaks
4 volte. Some ROMs will not have volte
Installing ROMs are individual preferences and all ROMs are stable.

Guys,
Thanks for the feedback earlier. Bumping old thread to see if any update / revision in choices basis past 2-3 months?
Now that we have more or less final version of Oreo (though fortunately, some O ROMs are still getting security updates), the options are not likely to change further.
So far, have been using Jaguar Aug'18 build - worked quite well but in last few weeks seeing 10-12% battery drain overnight. Today am going to flash Oct'18 build to see if any changes.
CrDroiD is Best
i have used all oreo except RR..
I find CrDroid the best Rom of all times.
no issues at all.. be it SOT.. consistent 7-7.5 hours with moderate usage.. BT music play for 2-3 hours daily, phone calls for hour or so 1 hour of game play A8 & tekken.. all banking apps running including Tez..
Tons of customization. Built in adaway as well .. i dont think any feature is missing in this Rom. except 2.
1. Pocket detection - causes many failed FP.
2. auto call record - call record is present but u have to enable it in each call.
if some one with rom build knowledge can include this and update security patches then this would be a complete rom.
planning to try RR as dotos is giving very low SOT.. staying on that coz it has auto call record and pocket detect.

Which version?
Which the build you think which has the best battery backup, performance, stability...?
I think that is Pixel Experience 19/09...
Bump lil

Have not tried all pie roms. But havos os is great. battery backup is good, and I can play pubg at 60 fps smoothly.
how about batery backup sir?
Arrow - never tried
Syberia - bootloop
Havoc- currently using (can be a daily driver but bit poor battery backup)
Pixel experience - best battery backup ever (but u will miss all customisation and it resets my user settings every time I reboot)
Didn't tried any rom yet, but heard that havoc is doing great & I'm not really into customisation so I thought to pick pixel experience but someone said it's resetting user settings on every reboot
Pixel experience - good battery backup but lot of customisation are missing
Havoc- not that good(battery backup mainly the use)
Liquid remix - best rom for me till now
Arrow +1
Pixel Experience was giving me some memory and performance issues on the 2GB variant.
AOSP Extended seems to be a good balance for me, for performance and stability.
Havoc +1
Tried all except nitrogen, and this was the best for me, but I would really like to see a Havoc vs nitrogen os detailed comparison - like stability, bugs, features, because I haven't tried it yet but I wuld like to.
If u have 2GB RAM, don't try havoc, very lag
I use Arrow
Arrow is the best atleast for 2 gb ram variant...I have tried havoc and pixel experience as well.. havoc had lots of bugs and for pixel experience i guess, updates are non existent..only 1 update a month at times. Arrow is a rock solid pie rom for kenzo. Most stable perhaps and bug free ofcourse.
Nos 9 is epic battery life
Nos pie
I have the 2GB variant.
Haven't tried arrow yet. Havoc, Liquid Remix and PE were among the first roms I tried. Havoc seemed pretty solid with good backup, yet the zram puts me behind after some time cause I'm low on ram and storage.
I just want a smooth rom with device specified optimizations, not a aosp camera but the snap camera
The Marshmallow optimizations kind of thing. These roms just seem to "work", nothing more.
What about NOS or Arrow? Any comments?
I've using almost all pie roms in RN3 but pixel experience rom's battery backup much batter then others. Now Im using RR v7. It is similar to pixel experience battle in battery backup. It has lots of customization. So that best pie rom is RRv7 pie rom.
All have deep sleep draining idle draining. But bootlaggers maybe up a head
Have used pixel experience Oreo and was pretty satisfied, then tried resurrection remix pie, it was fine with lot of customisation but was not smooth and fluid. Finally now I am using viper O's version 6, the best I have used till now.....
Havok seems better than other roms the ram management is good and doesn't lag after long use meaning no reboot required and its compatible with a lot mods and doesn't bootloop battery backup is average performance is good enough and customisation is top notch stability is good regular updates no heating issues overall better ROM compared to others.
For me the best of the lot is viper os 6
Hello guys!
I've been using my Redmi 3s 2 GB Variant for 4 years now and I want a stable android q based ROM without bugs and I don't care about battery backup or customizations because I only want a ROM which can be used as a daily driver with no bugs
And if there isn't one on android q please suggest me one pie ROM with no bugs except LineageOS
Thank you
AEX 6.7 (November build ) ran w/o any issues. At least I couldn't find one. Had it installed for 3 months or so.
AEX lagged for me too much and I had tried the same build
Please can anyone suggest any good Custom ROM based on Android 9 or 10 for THE 2 GB VARIANT which has no bugs and performs good
I really don't need battery backup or any customization
Lag is most probably on account of too little available RAM.
You could try flashing Nanodroid microG + low RAM enabler package. Together should net RAM savings anywhere from 200-400MB. Also maybe look into Android Go apps like Gmail Go, Maps Go etc. I replaced SwiftKey with no-frills one like Old Keyboard(T9 only, no swipe) which consumes only 10MB vs 70-100MB. AnySoft is a feature-rich alternative but consumes less RAM. Among mainstream launchers Nova is still pretty light. Also Web versions/PWA wherever possible instead of a separate app. Titanium Backup to freeze infrequently used yet oft-running apps. F-Droid hosts plenty of lightweight yet surprisingly well-featured alternatives.
Edit: I found Kiwi Browser (even with a handful of extensions enabled) to be quite good in terms of tabs being retained for a reasonable length of time. Better than Samsung Browser and even Chrome.

Hii, i use redmi 3s with 2gb variant, and im playing pubg mobile also xD, try Paranoid Android unofficial for android 10
or try aosip pie 26 march 2020 build
I would like to bring Xiaomi Redmi 3s Prime 32/3 to life. It's still on stock MIUI 7 (V7.5.9.0.) Why? Because that ROM was really good and there was no need for update because everything was working OK. But now more and more apps requires a newer version of Android, so I need custom rom.
Anything stable from Android 8 and above will be OK.
I thought try with PixelExperience, but unfortunately they have just 11 version, no archive for older versions. At least I couldn't find it. So if that version is no good, can't try older one.
But I see there is PixelReloaded with 9 and 10 version still available.
Then there is ArrowOS, it's great thing that they still have all versions available for download, 9, 10 and 11.
I saw thread from @Atam2001 his experience with ROMs. Where he mentioned Nitrogen-OS-10 was great for him, and Superior OS was suggests as well as good ROM.
I do not looking nothing fancy, just something that is fluid and reliable.
Which rom and version you were very happy?
In case of 3GB variant you can go with FLOS 18.1 or Havoc 4.x or AEX A11 by Sairam. In my 2GB variant A11 unlike A10 is just too memory hungry for a reasonable multitasking experience. Havoc 3.11 based on A10 was really good. Fluid and bug free. I have been running FLOS 18.1 in land for several months without any issue.
If you need the best multitasking experience Pie ROMs with low RAM mod is the best and reasonably upto date option. In my 2GB device I had almost always 1GB RAM free. However other than Nichcream's LOS 16 build based on 4.9 kernel from late 2019 all the others are based on the stock 3.18 kernel and usually have quite a few bugs. I had tried many Pie ROMs based on 3.18 but was never satisfied until Q ROMs arrived with 4.9 kernel.

@amn1987 Thank you so much for reply
My idea was to start first with the lower android version. Because more people were working on development at the time.
So I tried with SuperiorOS Android 9 (20190824-0147).
The first problem was, system launcher was not working, I always get an error message. So, new launcher fixed the problem.
After two weeks of use everything was fine. Good battery life, wifi/mobile data OK, GPS, banking applications working, google cam OK.
Then sometimes it starts to reset himself. Or I couldn't turn it on. And date and time would be wrong. It doesn’t happen often but it's a sign to try something else.
Thanks for the details I will try something from your suggestion.
Forgot to mention that idle drain was mind bogglingly good in Q ROMs with 4.9 kernel, 0.1-0.15%/h almost always. In R ROMs, idle drain is a little higher at close to 0.3%/h. Does go as low as 0.1%/h but infrequently. 2G only, Sync off, Wifi/GPS off, BT on always but not paired constantly. Using NikGApps which has GMS Doze enabled.
To report back...
After SuperiorOS Android 9, I tried Havoc 3.11 based on Android 10. And it's much better. There is no random restarting, or problem with date/time like I had on SuperiorOS. Here everything working great! And all bank apps working with no problem, even there is no message that you using custom rom. Sairam did amazing job. There is a lot useful features, like app lock, double tap and so on...
After use MIUI based on Android 6, this is like a new phone.
Happy with HavocOS
Recently a new build of LOS 16 with 4.9 kernel was released by the dev "Cafebabe" on TG who nowadays seems to spearhead the development for land albeit most builds are seemingly unified builds also targeting riva, santoni etc. For my 2GB variant it could be the best option although Havoc 3.11 was very good as well.
I am honestly disappointed with how the battery works on custom roms.
I use camera recording (like a car video recorder) and on MIUI (stock) I can record 4 hours with minutes because that's what the battery allows.
But on most current custom roms, I don't even hit 3h, 2.5h on average. In addition, you can see the battery % drops faster and at 40% it can turn off as if it were 0%. And after a few minutes, it can be turned on and there is 20% or more of the battery. And I thought the battery was ending its life. But I flash the stock rom and it works like hassle ...

Have you tried Q/R ROMs based on 4.9 kernel? In particular the ones by Sairam like Fork LOS, Havoc etc. While I haven't tested video recording but otherwise battery backup is excellent. Just about a month ago 10+ hours during offline video playback. Battery goes down to low single-digits w/o any issue. BTW you could enable bypass charging to take the stress off of the battery and prolong it's longevity.
You know, the most important thing here is the use that uses a lot of batteries.
And here only the MIUI custom roms (miuiEU, Android 7.1.2, Android 9, although the battery in 9 also lose a little faster) are comparable.
A long time ago - nichcream roms somehow worked fine with the battery.
Anyway, I thought most of the new ones were good until I started using the camera intensively.
I have used his custom roms and others too, and I don't know what's wrong...
Everywhere the battery is melting (when i use the camera) in the eyes except the MIUI based roms.
Well video recording is pretty resource intensive. No wonder it drains the battery. I might check it out if a relatively cooler day is in the offing.
Hi, I'm currently using miui 12.5 (android 10), and I'd like to "renovate" my lavender with a new and updated custom rom. Which one is the best, regarding battery life, performance, smoothness, stability?

But I've read positive experiences with SparkOS, so maybe you can try SparkOS.
In the while I tried ArrowOS and the battery life is indeed exceptional! I'm very satisfied

I have used both arrow os and spark os. Each of them for a week now.
Note that I have a 3gb ram phone.
Spark os felt a bit laggy. For example when I taped on a WhatsApp conversation to open it the animation felt not so smooth.
There are battery options to save more battery and other few nice extra features to tweak this and that as well. Spark OS has face unlock. Couldn't keep a few apps open because I got only about 400MB of free RAM.
Arrow OS on the other hand gave me less battery life. Maybe it's just me. But the whole ui was much smoother. Does not have face unlock. When I first installed it without updating firmware, I got about 800mb fee ram and now I have only 400mb left. (as much as spark os)
Hope this helps.
