Someone gave me a note 4, but it's a Sprint device and I'm an at&t subscriber; I'd prefer to not have the Sprint garbage on here, but I have a business need to not run a rooted device.
Is there anything preventing me from running the at&t firmware on this? I get that LTE won't work since this doesn't have the necessary band support, but the hardware appears to be otherwise identical.
Im guessing it may not be that easy given the fact that the latest bootloader on the sm-n910p is a fused 5. There may be a way to flash a modified att firmware if you replace it with the 5DQ15 bootloader. I say "may be" as I can not tell you for certain. Also even if you are successful, you will not get LTE as the hardware is different. If you do not have the latest N910PVPU5DQI5 firmware, Im pretty sure you could sell it and buy an ATT Note 4. A lower version of the sm-n910p is very hard to find and most likely fetch a little higher price.
Yeah, I wasn't expecting LTE, I was just hoping for something that didn't have all the Sprint crap that doesn't work.
I think I'll just wait until I'm working again and get a S10 or Note 10 and retire this to the phone drawer.

Hello, If you decided or if anyone else has the same question, perhaps this is what your looking for.
https://www.xda-developers.com/uninstall-carrier-oem-bloatware-without-root-access/
Well, this is likely moot now as the device has pretty well crashed and I haven't been able to recover it yet.
I'm using a note 3 at the moment, which isn't great as it's just a bit too old. I'm also borrowing a OnePlus 1, but I don't think that's going to work for me as it doesn't have an SD slot. I may just pick up an S6 since those are relatively cheap until I can upgrade to a 10.
I just noticrd your reply and I will post a reply later today, I hope I can help you bring back a working Note 4 .
Yeah, something's wrong with it on a pretty basic level now. I did briefly get it functioning again two days ago (after doing a bunch of factory resets and firmware reloads), but it started crashing again during build-out and it's been unusable ever since.
I did tease out a kernel panic at one point, here's what it threw:
Kernel Panic
Krait info
panic caller : mdm_subsys_powerup+0xf0/0x12c
panic msg : CP BOOT UP FAIL - NEED cP DUMP
Thread : mdm_helper_prox:759
pm8841_rev : 0x0
I'm using "N910PVPU5DQI5" which I pulled down from this very site.
That was the first thing that I thought when you posted. Ondin fail and that is due to the latest firmware update on n910p Sprint Note 4. The last update was a fused 5, version 4 and to my knowledge ATT firmware is a fused 4. Also called aboot. (aboot) . Aboot is always upward compatible but is not downwards compatible. Meaning, if you upgrade to a higher aboot as in your case fused 5 then you will not be able to dowmngrade back to a fused 4 aboot. When you gashed the ATT official firmware that had an lower aboot is the reason you bricked you device. The good new is I think I may have a solution to unbrick your device. I need to confirm a few details before I reply.
No, I'm still using the Sprint firmware, haven't tried the at&t one yet.
ok

Was it a flash that caused a soft brick? How did this happen?
I was getting random perf issues, then it started randomly crashing and restarting, eventually getting to the point where it would no longer boot. That's when I started trying to reload the firmware to hopefully get it stable again. No such luck.
On a more entertaining note, I've managed to soft-brick the OnePlus 1 a friend loaned me trying to update it from cyanogenmod to Lineage 16 since there's apparently a build for it. I got TWRP , the image, and the google stuff installed but it just won't boot and ultimately restarts back to TWRP. I'll poke around the dedicated forum for that though.

Dam!!! From the frying pan to the fire. I feel fot yoy bro. .... Sorry to hear that... Entertaining maybe, frustrating is a definite. Ouch!!! &^//^#
Did you make a back up in TWRP before flashing lineage 16?
---------- Post added at 04:51 AM ---------- Previous post was at 03:58 AM ----------
Just to confirm, I understand that you did in fact wipe user data and did a full factory reset. Is this correct?
Sprint Note 4
1 . Try booting into safe mode and see if that helps. if not
2. Boot into stock recovery and wipe dalvik chache and perform a factory reset and I recommend to do this 3 or 4 times a row before you reboot. Then reboot your device. I sould also mention. while in stock recovery in start page read the notification at the bottom.
3. If the above dose not fix your device then flash 5DQ15 official factory firmware with Odin. Remind you to open develop option and enable adb beforehand.
I had an old Note 4 with similar issues as your describing. It was an emmc hardware failer. The only fix was a new motherboard.
Of course not.
Should be easy to recover though, I just need to find a utility so I can flash it.
For you Note 4. Use pc or laptop , proper drivers anf Odin software.
link for Odin download only. None of the official Tar firmwares in this link are compatible . I just want to be very clear that flashing any Tar in the link provided will end in Odin fail and a soft bricked device. Odin is the only thing you need to download. Hope this is of some help.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-sprint/general/stock-tar-odin-flashable-t3250864.
Yeah, I wiped it three times in fact, I read something about that in another thread.
It won't even boot to the point where you could try to get in to safe mode.
I've done several factory wipes before and it didn't seem to help, I'll that again and try reloading firmware again though and see what happens.
..... Recovery mode appears to be hanging on "Installing System Update" we'll see if it finishes.
Hmmm, I'm not seeing an ADB option. I'm using Odin v3.12 if that matters.
Finally got in to recovery.
dm-verify verification failed...
e:failed to mount /cache (invalid argument) - see several of these
e:Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
e:Can't open /cache/recovery/log
e:failed to mount /cache (invalid argument)
:can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
... /cache/recovery/last_install
..../cache

...last_locale
So, several errors.
DM-verify is one of the worst and it is also likely to include a DRK error . I have over 5 year experience with Sansung rooting and flashing, porting and........ Im a flash-a aholic and soft brick my devices many times. In all that time I only had one that I could not recover from. Yep DM-Verity fail(device mapper) and DRk (device root key) and Note 4. There are you tub videos and a good amont of information on the net. 4 files flashed via Odin. I had a rooted device and DM-verty involves security prodection as I had root the issue may have been woth su' binaries. However. as youare not rooted maybe flash factoy firmware in Odin will work for you.
You may have wondered why I suggested looking at the bottom screen in stock recovery. I answer is DM-verity.
In recovery at te top of first page is a knox counter. If its un-tripped reads 0x0 similar . If it has been tripped then a number will be visible as an indication 1x0 or 2x0 or similar.
I had to root the device to unlock platform so I could use it with the at&t sim. That was months ago and had no impact on running the stock firmware.

Hopefully saferoot or some other method will work with this update. :fingers-crossed:
I saw a software update being download through my phone which was killing my battery. I called Samsung to see what was going on.
I'm pretty sure I weirded out the Samsung rep on the phone because I was ECSTATIC when she said "well, it looks like you should actually be running 4.4.2"

Don't Apply Update to an Encrypted Phone!!!!
I made what I think is a fatal error in applying this update...two errors, actually...
1. Didn't have contacts, texts, various docs, etc stored on internal memory backed up to the could, external computer, etc
2. Applied update before decrypting the phone (I keep it encrypted for security reasons obviously but this may have just bitten me in the butt)
So here's happened when I applied the update. First, there was no warning not to apply it to an encrypted phone (found this out from an AT&T Device Support Center technician, who also told me the update was pushed direct by Samsung and not AT&T and really did try to help me out of this jam). I selected yes to apply the update, then it prompted me for my password 2 or 3 times at it went thru the update/reboot process. No problem, right? Well when it appeared to have completed, it went back to the lock screen on bootup, I typed in my password, the green "android crypto unlock" image came on, then...nothing. screen went black and phone locked up. Restarted several times and same thing happened. Restarted in safe mode and same thing happened. Tried hooking up to my computer and accessing thru Windows and Samsung Kies...nothing. Phone connects to computer, but it isn't recognized and no access (neither before nor after typing password into phone). Went into the phone's system recovery mode and rebooted from there and same thing happened - get to unlock screen, type password, and locks. In the phone's system recovery screen, I get the following at the bottom of the screen:
#MANUAL MODE#
-- Appling Multi-CSC...
Applied the CSC-code : ATT
Successfully applied multi-CSC.
E:failed to mount /data (Invalid argument)
can't mount '/data'(Invalid argument)
E:failed to mount /data (Invalid argument)
E:Can't mount /data/log/recovery_log.txt
I have not yet done a "wipe data/factory reset" nor had AT&T wipe and reset the phone at their Device Service Center as I really really really need to recover some data that is now locked on the phone and I can't seem to get past the encryption even with password as it appears the encryption corrupted the OS update installation. Neither 3 hrs with a very helpful AT&T tech nor an hour on the phone with Samsung tech was able to get me into the phone to at least recover data. If i can just recover the data, at that point I have no problem doing a factory reset (and taking a harsh lesson learned) and rebuilding the phone. But I want to exhaust all possible options at data recovery before I go that route, and any help any of you out there can provide would be greatly appreciated. Maybe a way to extract an image of the phone's internal storage to a computer and then decrypt that image to extract the data? Maybe a way to remotely decrypt the phone's internal storage over USB connected to a computer and then extract data that way?
I asked both Samsung and AT&T if they had an FTP site or something where I could download the update to a microSD card and try re-applying the update from external storage (which at least in theory would preserve user data during the update) in the system recovery boot module but both said they couldn't do it. Which I think is BS, since that 700MB file has to come from somewhere. I'm guessing they only want the update distributed via OTA or Kies not as a separate installer package that could be easily shared.
That's about it. I'm really hoping someone can help me out of this jam, but am prepared for the worst - data loss and associated harsh lessons learned. Thanks for listening and I hope no one else out there makes the same mistake I did.
Rob
Trying to Odin back to 4.2.2 results in an error and soft bricks the phone. At least my phone is still under warranty and there are no signs of me moding the phone, so i'll be shipping it to Samsung tomorrow.

OTA update is downloading a zip file called /data/fota/2400258.cfg, I'll try to capture it. Hoping it doesn't delete it before I can get to it
It's the same filename as the OTA updates for other S 4.4.2 devices but I would guess not the same contents.
I have the 4.4.2 update in place but need to root my device to get rid of all the bloatware again. Anyone finding any success with root apps?

Tried that one. It says my model is not currently supported.
Boo. I know towelroot is configurable, maybe another modstring will work.
Anyways here's the OTA update
https://mega.co.nz/#!r1lxzISZ!5KD71NdDu8Lj96G2mXFlbk75tQgzAZg7FEyHMEkajgA
Warning, none of the below worked for me and I had to restore
I assume this is the install process
Download OTA file
Change 2400258.cfg name to update.zip
Connect your phone to your PC and then move the update.zip file to the phone's /cache
Disconnect the phone from PC, power off the phone and then boot it in Recovery Mode.
Select the ‘Apply Update.zip’ from cache
OR
Apply update from adb
Then adb sideload 2400258.cfg from your computer
Wait until the install process is complete and then reboot your phone in normal mode.
Same as http://www.android.gs/flash-official-android-4-4-2-kk-update-for-att-galaxy-s4/ except with a different file.

Too late. Think I just bricked it too, OTA update failed so it probably wasn't just you.
Correction: I was able to get back to 4.2.2, I used PDA instead of Phone in ODIN. My guess is that the bootloader has to be flashed first before reverting to 4.2.2. However I did a clean wipe many times before so I'm not sure if it did that, in your case it would not be preferred.
I'm seriously sick over this bootloader BS, enough to never buy a Samsung electronic device ever again. Or deal with AT&T in any capacity ever again.

How did you manage that? I stupidly tried to downgrade with Odin and have a soft-brick on my hands. I've tried everything I can think of. I wish SamMobile had the 4.4.2 firmware.
Update made the phone slower and laggy. Someone needs to find a working root method
Hello guys,
I bought a soft bricked S7 Edge with a dm-verity error because I thought I could easily fix the issue myself. The previous owner said he went to update the samsung software via android and this happened. But it doesn't seem too easy to fix. I've tried a bunch of different solutions I found on the interwebs but none have worked so far. I would appreciate some help because I don't seem to be making any progress.
EDIT: I've read that some people have reported losing their IMEI after an OTA update. Maybe that is what happened?
NOTE: I do NOT get the "failed to mount /efs" error
When I got the phone, it would boot directly into Android Recovery with a dm-verity error on the bottom. So here is what I tried:
1 . First I did the obvious, facotry reset and wipe partition. No change.
2. Downloaded the firmware with SamFirm (SM-G935F Regin ZTO) and flashed with Odin. It then booted into a screen with a hazard sign and a DRK error. Then returned to Android Recovery. Observation: When I extracted the firmware, I got a strange corrupted error. I downloaded it again, same corruption error. Is that normal? Also, I am not certain the region is ZTO, maybe this phone is from some other region. Does it matter?
3. I flashed the same firmware again. This time the phone booted up to a Samsung error that said to use SmartSwitch's Emergency recovery. I tried but it asks for a recovery code and I don't have one.
4. I tried to flash CF-autoroot but it gave an error in Odin and failed. EDIT: failed because "Blocked by FRP Lock" but I can't unlock the OEM like everyone else because I can't boot normally into android. Any workaround?
5. I downloaded firmware from a different region (UK). I got a DRK error and it booted into Android recovery. The bottom of the phone reads:
No Support SINGLE-SKUSupported API: 3dm-verity error...failed code : 0x02
6. I flashed the combination file and was able to boot into Factory Binary. I went into Settings to unlock OEM but there isn't that option in the Developer Settings!
That's where I am now. Any ideas?
Thanks!

Samsung Yateley is Samsung's official UK QA facility, they only receive official products direct from the factories and those sent back for repair and refurbishment. I know this because it's literally just down the road from my house and a couple of friends have worked there over the years.
However, "SAMSUNG YATELEY GU46 6GG UK" has been on literally millions of devices worldwide for years.
It's not a reliable Indication of a genuine product or in fact an indication of anything other than the fact that Samsung have a facility in Yateley.
If the device is a refurb or even a fake it's entirely possible that it only says "SM-G935F SAMSUNG YATELEY GU46 6GG UK" because that's what it's supposed to say.
I'm sorry that I can't be of any more help but, I hope I've helped by stopping you from embarking on a wild goose chase.

Try to use z3x box i read some function of z3x box but i'm not sure if it will fix your phone. Just go to gsm-forum for more details.
I thought this error message you're getting is because you flashed something on your phone intended for another model. I got the same error when I first got my S7 Edge because I stupidly thought I had the snapdragon variant when in fact the G935F is the Exynos variant. I got exactly the same error message. Have you tried reflashing stock firmware via Odin? Have you checked the Knox trip counter to see if the phone had been tampered with prior to you buying it? I live a stone's throw away from Yateley (5 mins maximum) if you want me to pop in and enquire?

Sorry for the delayed response. I left my phone with some technicians with a ZX3 and Octopus Box and they were unable to fix the phone. But they didn't seem very interested either so maybe they just blew me off. Not sure. I'll try to find someone else soon.

No, I haven't tried that yet. How do I access the S7 via adb again? Is it in download mode or in the recovery? Samsungs don't have "fastboot" right?
I'm in the exact same situation, it's FRP locked to me but I can't get passed the DM-Verity to unlock nor root to pass DM-Verity. Hard to believe this could be bricked from a software issue.

No, I haven't tried that yet. How do I access the S7 via adb again? Is it in download mode or in the recovery? Samsungs don't have "fastboot" right?

Hey, I was able to unbrick the phone. But I had to take it to a technician that used a very interesting technique to reset the phone. Apparently, someone had tried to flash another IMEI on the phone. To reset the device, he switched out one of the memories (there are 3 or 4 slots). Then when you boot up the phone, it is tricked into thinking you are booting up for the first time. At leas that is what I understood. Maybe someone more familiar with phone hardware could explain the solution better.

I'm in the exact same situation, it's FRP locked to me but I can't get passed the DM-Verity to unlock nor root to pass DM-Verity. Hard to believe this could be bricked from a software issue.

Hello guys,
I bought a soft bricked S7 Edge with a dm-verity error because I thought I could easily fix the issue myself.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

(Soft-)Bricked S7 Edge/G935F with FRP lock & DRK error, but no root/OEM unlock/ADB
Hello guys,
I bought a, what I thought to be, soft bricked S7 Edge (G935F) from the bay. It was listed as having sw issues, so I thought I could easily fix the issue myself. Stupid me, this one really isn't easy to fix. I've tried a lot of different hints that I found meandering around the web, but none of them have proofed working so far. I would appreciate some help because I don't seem to be making any progress.
When I got the phone, it would boot directly into Android Recovery with a dm-verity error on the bottom.
Below is what I have tried already:
1 . First I did the obvious, factory reset and wipe partition. No change.
2. Downloaded the latest firmware with updato (SM-G935F Region DBT) and flashed with Odin. It then booted into a screen with a hazard sign and a DRK error (Device does not have DRK, please install DRK first. press any button). Then returned to Android Recovery with variations of the DRK and dm-verity error messages
3. I flashed the same firmware again. This time the phone booted up to a Samsung error that said to use SmartSwitch's Emergency recovery. I tried but it asks for a recovery code and I don't have one.
4. I used an older version of SmartSwitch which gave me the initialization option where you need to input the device model and SN - SmartSwitch decided not to cooperate and noted that the S7 edge does not support initialization
5. I tried to flash CF-autoroot but it gave an error in Odin and failed because it is "Blocked by FRP Lock". I can't boot normally into android. Any workaround?
6. I used a dm-verity workaround file (G935FXXU1DQC4_FIX_DRK_dm-verity.tar) to actually get the phone booted up- but then it asks for the account information to do away with the FRP lock. And the former owner does not want to give me his login information. In addition, none of the workarounds (bluetooth, modem terminal prompts, etc.) did work.
7. Flashed oldest Android version I could find for the G935F - 5.1.1 - this gave me a prompt right after reboot that looks like the password request for encrypting memory. default_password and variations did not work. I am still stuck with...
No Support SINGLE-SKU
Supported API: 3
dm-verity error...
failed code : 0x02
...in the recovery
8. I flashed the combination file and was able to boot into Factory Binary and used the IMEI recovery option which is supposed to fix also the DRK issue. No luck.
So, this is where I am right now. If anyone out there still has sparks of hope, I would be delighted to hear about them.
Thanks much in advance!
Conversion software and ADB Shell
Small update - I booted into factory mode again using the conversion firmware. This way, I could connect to the device via ADB and use ADB shell. There is a guide (here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/how-to/guide-how-to-fix-check-drk-imei-issues-t3379516) which guides through IMEI recovery using the conversion software and factory mode - that is supposed to also help with DRK issues. Did not work for me.
Another great guide (here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/no...fix-drk-dm-verity-factory-csc-serial-t3422965) used ADB shell to push and repair the DRK with some additional files. Since the device is not rooted, I did not get very far, either.
So, no progress whatsoever.
In summary, I can get the device booted up into factory mode using the conversion firmware, or, by using the dm-verity tweaked firmware, I can end up in the Google Account locked part of the initial start-up settings.
Any ideas?
Have you looked at the process to completely re-do a phone stuck in the Google auth log-in? At least that is how I understand where you are stuck. I have a phone arriving soon that I will need to re-flash to get out of that, via Odin.

Hi JeffDC,
Thanks a lot for the reply. How would this process look like? I have flashed the phone with all sorts of variations of Android L, M and N - plus the combination fw and the one with the dm-verity/DRK workaround which at least got the phone booted up. But then I am stuck at the google auth request.
I cannot flash anything custom since the FRP lock is on.
Hence, if there is any other way to re-do the phone as you are saying, I would live to hear about it.

Hi JeffDC,
Thanks a lot for the links.
Link #1: I can flash the file #1 and get the device visible for ADB by using the combination FW before starting the steps. Unfortunately, step #2 does not work due to lack of permissions. I guess because of missing root.
Links #2 and #3: These are the guides I was already referencing in my post #2 - they both do not work due to, I guess, missing root.
Smart Switch initialization
Update: I got smart switch to do the update and initialization for the device. Workaround was to use a different real serial number than the one of the actual device (I can only assume that it has got to do with country presets).
Cool stuff, all went smooth - but, still the same result. The device ends up in recovery showing the dm-verity error (failed code : 0x02) with FRP lock on and no root.

Interesting read, particularly ignoring the trojan squabbling.
Uses script and setup files to get around FRP.
I suggest you to re-try flashing with Odin the Stock Marshmallow Firmware. Then Boot Into Stock Recovery do a Full Wipe.

Thanks for the recommendation. Done that (MM downgrade and full wipe) - same result, still DRK error only booting to recovery.

Hi JEffDC, thanks for the follow-up hints. Very interesting read and approach. As commented in the other thread, I think the package download link in the opening post is dead. I am also curious to see 2 more complexities in action:
1. Will this work on a G935F variant (Exynos vs Snapdragon)?
2. The only way for me to get to the Google Account prompt is by using the modded dm-verity version mentioned in my first post - but I am not sure I can get ADB access enabled simultaneously
Good luck.

Hey sathiere,
Came across this. It apparently removes the FRP before the system can start it up! Let me know what you think. I'm going to try it on a locked Edge next week or two. Seems to go right after the FRP protection file.

Yes, I am hoping for a response to my post there, near the end, clarifying. I think I get the method, and it's really pretty straight forward, really.
sathiere, I think basically what it does is provide two connections to the phone at the same time, one via Odin, and the other via direct ADB.
Step one is to flash a Universal boot loader, which is unlocked or can be unlocked via ADB. Now with the locked boot loader out of the way, on to getting rid of FRP.
Step two is run the. bat file which deletes the Persistence file, which is the Google encrypted setup file/FRP file. BOOM, FRP gone.
Then either stay on the Universal bootloader, or go back and flash the OEM.
Brilliant!
I have the same problem with a sm930f binary 2 boot loader. Stock Rom doesn't start and frp lock. How you fix it ? Thank you

Hi All.
Thank you for any help you might give me in advance with this issue...
Last week, I tried to root the phone with the SM-G930P CF-Autoroot heroqltespr files with Odin found in this forum. I have rooted a few other phones but am no expert. The root after a few attempts failed (verified a few ways), however, some files must have been affected because the phone "identifies" as heroqltespr. Identifies as when I could plug into my PC heroqltespr would be the name. It was not set this way in the obvious name your device areas. I ended up doing a hard reset to clear the phone and other than the ghost naming everything was working fine.
A day or 2 ago Sprint rolled out a new OTA update which the phone installed. Since then the phone was draining battery life. After uninstalling and reinstalling the SD card today, it seems to have tripped a "Security Notice: Unauthorized Actions". That is when the trouble started. The phone started running hot, basically leaking battery power, and was all lagging. I'm assuming the CPU going Ludicrous speed.
Now, I am in a Samsung Splash screen loop, or or a recovery loop. The only thing it does is go into download mode.
I have tried flashing stock firmware, it fails. I've tried flashing with and without the SD or Sim card. Not really sure what I should be doing. The "P" version of my phone seems to be the bastard child of S7s. Any help you guys cold give me would be great. THANK YOU!
The Download Screen Reads:
Odin Mode (High Speed)
Current Binary: Samsung Official
System Status: Custom
FAP Lock: Off
Warranty Void: 8x8
Qualcomm Secure Boot: Enabled
AP SWREV: 85(2,1,1,1,1) K1 S4
I get this error when I try to flash back to stock SW REV CHECK FAIL : [ABOOT]FUSED 5 > BINARY 4
Stupid question but is your phone in a case?

No it isn't.
I get this error message on the download screen. SW REV CHECK FAIL : [ABOOT]FUSED 5 > BINARY 4
I fixed it.
5 > BINARY 4 error, has to do with a Version 5 bootloader Sprint came out with in 2018. The fact that this is only affected by the SM-G390P further complicates things for the average user. Users on version 5 bootloader will need to wait until/If a version 5 universal bootloader for the SM-G930U to get unbloated firmware. Information on restoring your S7 SM-G930P to where you left off before you started trying to root your phone can be found below. More info on Sprint F'n us and BL Version 5 can be found here
https://www.arencambre.com/blog/2018/01/01/fused-firmware-version-locks-samsung-s7/comment-page-1/. There was a post on XDA (which I can't find) which gave the idea that Sprint came out with this version 5 bootloader to prevent people from flashing the phones to the U version and going overseas with them.
The stock files for the first version of Sprint Version 5 bootloader firmware dated 1-1-18 can be found here:
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-s7/SM-G930P/SPR/download/G930PVPS5BRA1/206876/
Unzip. Only have auto reboot and Re-partition checked as options in Odin.
If you dont mind me asking, did you ever find a way to root the G930P with the 5th bootloader updates? Is it even possible at this point in time? Im new when it comes to rooting but with the amount of time Ive spent browsing the web it seems as if there is nothing. Thanks.

I got screwed by this, I accidentally installed the P firmware, and now I cannot load U firmware because of this 5 > 4 error. I went to the blog you posted (arencambre), and I am only able to install the U firmware modem (CP package in Odin), everything else has to be P. And because of the P firmware, I am unable to edit APN settings to enable my native Hotspot. Is there anything I can do, besides wait for U firmware to come out with a Version 5 bootloader?

Actually, I am on Sprint, and your directions were awesome, thank you so much! The only thing I had to do was change the line to:
settings put global tether_dun_apn "APNDUN,n.ispsn,,,,,,http://mms.sprintpcs.com,68.28.31.7,80,310,120,,default,dun,mms,supl"
I'm going to put a link to the thread so others can refer to it. https://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-s7-edge/how-to/hotspot-bypass-nougat-ok-t3563446
Hi all,
EDIT: I posted this in another thread that was about two years old, where I followed the instructions that caused this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/sp...msung-galaxy-s7-sm-g930p-root-xposed-t3503599
That thread seems dead-ish and if you managed to fix this issue maybe you can help me also. Also what was lvpre's original post before he edited it, and would it apply here?
So the worst has happened - got a new (used) phone from Boost Mobile, tried this guide, and now I can only boot to the "An error has occured while updating the device software. Use the Emergency Recovery function in the Smart Switch PC software." screen. Sometimes it does take me to the original "Download mode" screen.
Now, I should be able to resolve this by flashing the original firmware correct? (As in, the firmware that was installed when it came)? Or does it just need to be firmware from the same date range that has the same bootloader? ODIN will still let me attempt flashing on this screen, but I still get the same error when I try again, which on the Download mode screen showed "SW REV CHECK FAIL : [system]Fused 4 > Binary 1"
Any advice here? My S6 bricked when somehow OEM unlock enabled itself and I can't get around the FRP lock, I will be VERY annoyed if the same thing happens with a NEW phone. If I can't fix this I am never buying Samsung again. Any advice on this is very welcome! I emailed Boost to ask them which firmware is installed (because I'm an idiot and didn't write it down but have never had flashing go this wrong before).
EDIT: Booting to recovery just shows a blue "RECOVERY BOOTING...." for a second in the corner and gives a recovery bootloop, just keeps flashing that.
EDIT: I apparently tried to flash an earlier bootloader/etc through ODIN according to the directions in the post I linked above, and after that I now have this problem. Nobody else in the thread seems to have had this problem, and your post is the closest to anything I can find on this issue. I would be in your eternal debt if you could help me out here.
PLEASE HELP!
EDIT: Theoretically if I can find the original firmware it was on I should be fine, right? Everywhere I read if flashing goes wrong you just flash the original stock on it. I guess worst case scenario I download gigs upon gigs of firmwares for Sprint 930P over the last year and find the one that sticks? Or is the fact my recovery is bootlooping and I can only go into download mode mean I'm bricked?
Hello all,
To follow up on my last post, I found success restoring to stock via this firmware:
G930PVPU4BQH1_G930PSPT4BQH1_SPR_7.0.zip
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=817550096634799807
I left my original post just in case anyone messes this up the way I did. I still need root, but now I know how to reset to stock in the event this happens again.
For the record I bought a used Samsung Galaxy S7 off the Boost website.
IF YOU FOLLOW THIS GUIDE, OR ANY, MAKE SURE TO GO INTO "SETTINGS -> ABOUT PHONE" AND MARK DOWN WHAT FIRMWARE THE PHONE IS CURRENTLY ON AS STOCK. THIS WILL SAVE YOU A HEADACHE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHICH FIRMWARE YOU NEED TO DOWNLOAD IF THINGS GO WRONG. DO NOT PAY FOR A FIRMWARE DOWNLOAD OR USE FILESHARE SITES, GO HERE: https://simunlockremote.com/galaxy-s-series-firmware/ AND FIND THE VERSION YOU ARE ON AND IT WILL DIRECT YOU TO A FAST GOOGLE DRIVE LINK.
Thanks to all the hard work all the devs have done that have gotten use. I still need root soooooooooo if anyone knows how to do that let me know!
CHEERS! I am so happy right now

I've got a Galaxy S7 G930P from Sprint. I just switched to T-Mobile a couple months ago and brought my S7 phone with me. I was hoping to flash my rom to either the G930U or the G930T (T-Mobile) version, but both are still bootloader v4 and I hit the same error that everyone else on this thread was hitting.
My main problem is that my S7 phone can't send/receive MMS messages on T-Mobile, even after updating the APN settings, and, even worse for me personally - my phone gets below average reception everywhere I go, presumably because my Sprint G930P rom has locked down some of the bands that T-Mobile uses.
Aside from getting a new phone, do I have any options? Or am I stuck waiting for either a G930T or a G930U update based on bootloader 5?

If your phone is uicc [sim] unlocked from sprint... you can try the following.
1. Odin a dec/Jan firmware...like QJ3. But replace the cp slot with the file from the latest u firmware. This is the modem file.
2. When your phone starts, you will receive a pop up message, just hit cancel.
3. Install a package disabler like sabs, bk, adhell2. Disable securitylogagent . This should remove the annoying message. Sabs takes a little effort to setup, but you may need it for the disabler part. Restart after disabling.
4. Pop in sim. See if the additional bands are unlocked.
If you fail, you can always just odin back to a v5 sprint firmware. But don't try it unless you are stuck on the current firmware and your phone is doing nothing. It won't brick your phone.
While the firmware is not downloadable, modem files can downgrade one major update.
This worked for me, but I only have sprint and haven't tried it elsewhere.
Here is an article https://www.arencambre.com/blog/2018/01/01/fused-firmware-version-locks-samsung-s7/comment-page-1/
Is this triggers the knox counter ?
My wife's camera stopped working on her phone. I read flashing back to a previous firmware might fix the issue. I thought it was worth a try (and easier) before physically cracking the phone open and examining the hardware. But boy was I sure wrong about that!
I've read so much crap about this within the past few hours my head could explode. But I think the problem is trying to source the correct firmware.
This is a SM-G935V with a snapdragon processor in it according to spec websites.
The baseband version is: G935VVRSBCTC1
I haven't figured out how to find the current PDA version on the phone yet, but when I was trying to flash it with random firmware with Odin, the phone screen gave me error message: Fused 11 > Binary 4
From what I read, I understand that to mean I'm trying to flash binary 4 over 11 and that won't work. The flash only works if the number is greater....or I'm hoping maybe it will work if the number is the same. I would be happy just to flash Android 8.0 at this point in any form just to see if the camera starts working again. I've already tried a factory reset, clearing camera app data and cache, booting into safe mode, and resetting phone settings to fix the camera - nothing worked.
Could anybody please help me figure out my current PDA version on the phone? Or help me source the correct firmware? I'm starting to think it might be easier just to root the phone and install that ONE UI with android 9 or the Lineage OS with Android 10. But I've never rooted a phone before, this is my first attempt at any of this and to be honest this phone is not giving me the confidence I need to attempt the root and new OS. I can't even get the current firmware to reinstall.
Any help would be very appreciated. Like I said, I've stayed up all night and I'm so freaking tired at this point. But I feel like I'm soooooo close.
I have an SD card with Magisk, no-verity-opt-encrypt, and twrp ready to go. I have Odin ready and installed Samsung USB. Do you guys think I should just try another firmware and root the phone? Any links to firmware that don't take 12 hours to download would be appreciated.
UPDATE!
I found the PDA version with that handy "Phone Info *Samsung*" app in the play store.
The PDA version is G935VVRSBCTC1 5TH DIGIT FROM THE RIGHT GIVES US THE FUSED BINARY "B". I guess when they got past the number 9 the switched to Alpha characters. I found some "A" firmwares on Updato.com. But I didn't see any with a "B". So there's a good chance the one's I'm trying to download over 12 hours right now won't work.
I also scrolled over to the "Hardware" section in the phone and it asked for access to the Camera. I gave it access. But now the field is blank/empty. I didn't populate any info on the Camera. I don't know if that means anything just wanted to point that out. Could still be firmware or hardware as far as I know.
Thanks, Derek

UPDATE #2
As you can tell I haven't given up yet. I found my current firmware version for download on a different website:
https://samfrew.com/download/Galaxy__S7__edge__/b3kj/VZW/G935VVRSBCTC1/G935VVZWBCTC1/"]https://samfrew.com/download/Galaxy__S7__edge__/b3kj/VZW/G935VVRSBCTC1/G935VVZWBCTC1/
It's another slow download option which really sucks. But I'll be able to test If I can flash the same firmware to the phone (not technically a downgrade and carries the same fused binary). So we shall see. If this doesn't work I'll be looking into the other android 9 or 10 roms and rooting the phone.
Thanks, Derek

TL/DR your full posts but I will cut to the chase on some points. If your phone is SM-G935V (US-Verizon) then you:
1) can NOT root binary B firmware. Binary A (10) yes, B (11) no, at least not until the ENG file becomes available- IF it ever comes. Official S7 support is next to dead.
2) even if you were lucky flashing binary A firmware and successfully rooted, you still would NOT be able to flash ANY custom ROM's such as Lineage. Also, Magisk is useless and will not work on our phones either.
US-spec Snapdragon phones are bootloader locked. There is no workaround. Locked bootloaders prevent flashing custom ROM's, kernels, etc. We are lucky we have root access and it took years just to get that. Bootloader unlocking will never happen for US-spec S7. Much as I love my S7e, if I ever have to replace it I will never get another US "Crapdragon" that you can't do anything with.
I do not know what the issue is with your camera. Maybe other forum members will have ideas. I do wish you luck getting everything back to normal.
Dang! Well thanks for the info! I guess all the videos I've seen with S7's and custom roms have not been done on the US-Verizon phone. What a bummer. Well this was a major learning experience at least.
My only idea now is to crack her open and make sure the camera didn't come unplugged from a drop. I also seen camera replacements were really cheap online. I don't know if it's worth my time....we are due for a phone upgrade anyway.
