Hi everyone,
So I have a really really strange issue with my phone lately and that is: I get a lot of graphical corruption and random app crashes (any app, including system apps like the Samsung or Google ones), I did in the past do some overclocking but that was way more than 6 months ago and this issue just popped up about 1 month ago and my battery life is now also really short and the phone can show 40% and shut down or show 20% and shut down and then when I plug it in I get the battery charger indicator with 50%+ battery left.
Now here's an even weirder thing: that is not specific to any ROM and happens on more than one, any TW 5.1.1 ROM I try and even on CM13.
I do use multi-boot but I did test the ROMs even without a multiboot environment and those things still happen.
So I was thinking that it might be that my battery is dead (although apps say it's healthy) as I've seen phones doing that when the battery is close to dead but since I can't really purchase a new battery in my country I would like to ask if someone has an opinion on this?
Could this be a hardware defect or something broken in my "hidden" Samsung-specific partitions or is it just the battery, has anyone else encountered this?
I really would like to know how big of a chance it is that my phone is somewhat of a brick before wasting a lot of money to buy a new battery from an other country.
As you can see most of the photos I took have either missing letters or strangely colored letters but that's because that's the graphical glitches I get most, the worse ones have big parts or even half of the screen totally black, UI elements extended awkwardly with gray outlines, strange colors on-screen and missing whole UI elements.
Sorry for the potato quality....took the photos with my Redmi Note 2 with CM12.1 instead of MIUI7 cause I am too sleepy to wait for it to reboot into the other ROM (and I think I wiped the whole cache+dalvik on my last CM update so the boot would take a long time since it would need to do the whole optimization for MIUI7 as well).
Also a photo of Settings crashing, all I did was just open it, saw the settings list and after a second crash.
NOTE: I am on a 100% clean install right now (wiped EVERYTHING including internal storage) and I barely even managed to get past the setup wizard since it kept crashing.
Thanks for any help/opinions/ideas.
No one knows anything?
How can I get it
Sent from my Q510s using XDA Free mobile app
New battery and did a full odin reflash (with SEA pit file), even updated to 6.0, bugs still here but way less frequent, crashes not here anymore after update to 6.0 but still here before even with a 5.1.1 reflash and clean install, seems like the phone is as good as gone, will try to send it to warranty to see what happens but don't expect much since "Knox Warranty Void=1".
Lesson learned: if such bugs start popping up for any of you guys even if the battery is not in a good state you'd end up better just buying a new phone since your note 4 is quite surely done and gone.
So just got my v20 and it seems great in most ways but one thing that has really started to bug me is when I try to install 2 or more apps at the same time the phone runs incredibly sluggishly. Otherwise, the phone is snappy: browsing the internet, switching between apps, messaging, etc.
But whenever I install an app, no matter what size, during the download of the app and during the installation phase the phone can barely function. Every other phone I had would be just find (Sony Xperia x compact with less ram and an inferior processor, definitely my galaxy $7, moto z play, etc.). It's like those phones would dedicate 1 core to the app download/installation and the other 3 or 5 would be for all other phone functions.
Do I just have a randomly borked v20? It would seem weird to me that the ohine would function fine in every other circumstamce though....
It's as if the v20 is using all the power of its SD 820 to install an app as fast as possible. I also noticed that my Play Games app that shows all the games I've ever installed runs like molasses. Maybe that is what's screwing things up. After 3 restarts the installations seem to be working a little bit better.
Are you charging while doing this? Maybe you're hitting the thermal limit
This happened to me after I upgraded my H918 from 'I' to 'J'. After I factory reset it hasn't done it.
Was not charging while doing it. Didn't factory reset yet. I MIGHT have found the culprit and that was an icon pack called shadow something that was eating up cycles like crazy and draining the battery. Since uninstalling yesterday, phone has had great battery (8 hour screen time) and no sluggishness when installing multiple apps.
Hi,
I have an EU Yotaphone YD201 running lollipop and noticed that it has been lagging terribly for a few months now. Is this normal for the yotaphone considering that it came out 3 years ago? Often opening apps such as facebook and whatsapp takes around 10 seconds and often pops up with the message "this app is not responding, would you like to close it?". The camera is also extremely slow in opening and often crashes straight after taking a photo (not saving it either). The keyboard always suffers from lagging when typing and often has to catch up after i've finished typing. Is the yotaphone 2 simply outdated in terms of hardware and software meaning I should consider buying a new phone? Or am I the only one having these issues?
I have about 6GB free memory and RAM usage averages around 50%.
Lollipop has been notorious with responsiveness and overall system stability. I had Galaxy S6 that crawled on Lollipop. I would recommend, either to step down to Kitkat (not recommended unless system fluidity is of primacy), or step up to Marshmallow. The EPD optimization is better implemented in Marshmallow and its definitely more responsive. When I bought this phone, Lollipop was already on the boards, I ran Lollipop for few hours before reverting to Kitkat, after a few months, Marshmallow came to the scene.
To the latter half of your concern, the device runs on 801 chipset, it should not stutter unless on contemporary graphic intensive gaming. It should deal with most causal apps with relative ease. However, its age becomes prominent considering its power efficiency, it's prone to heating, though not as bad as 808. Of there were a way to undervolt the CPU, battery concerns could be dealt with in more pragmatic sense.
To conclude, I suggest a switch to Marshmallow.
Thanks! I would flash the RU lollipop to then upgrade to Marshmallow, however my usb port is broken and it appears to be impossible to upgrade otherwise. So I will have to wait for the OTA version, hoping that eventually it comes out for the EU yotaphones
It should be updated to Marshmallow eventually. Might take time though.

You don't have to flash RU Lollipop firmware in order to upgrade to MM. However the lack of usb-port is a problem. Have you tried downloading the fullFOTA from MM thread, put it into the internal storage and apply it somehow from the recovery? Another option could be using ADB via Wi-Fi. Enable it in the developers options and search for the appropriate app, I think you can apply the MM update using Wi-Fi instead of USB-cable.
Moreover, if you have TWRP I could link here the clean MM installation backup, thus you could "restore the backup" and have MM.
The OP needs to be cautious, lack of USB port means if the recovery fails, the phone would be locked into an inoperable state.
That is a big risk with no USB working .
Don't know if this is about your problem but will post it and you will say. Yesterday I flashed Marshmallow [RU] on my Yotaphone 2 and everything went perfect, except when I want to copy a file, even if its inside the internal storage. Sometimes this extremly lag copying or moving files turned into an error of the filesystem.
Even if this has nothing to do with this post, can someone say something about that?
Thanks people
my att galaxy s7 edge is running very slow from past few weeks, I tries to uninstall all new app but with no luck, is there way to figure out what is causing phone slowness.
Thanks
Prashant
It's a Samsung device. It's part of the experience...
However, you can boot into recovery and clear the cache, which often restores normal performance. When you get back into the OS, you can finish by using Device Maintenance to flush the remaining caches. I try to make sure to do that at least twice a month or as needed.
Other than that, check the apps on your phone. Some apps are known to cause devices to slow down. I disabled Facebook, for example, and noticed an immediate improvement.
It just feels like the same issue as iphone has - where apple deliberately slowing down the system to preserve longer dying battery...
After the oreo update my phone is laggy and overheating quite often. Battery drains much faster in use, but lasts more on standby.
All the above with typical use FB, instagram, chrome etc no games.
I know I can hard reset my phone but this is great inconvenience with all the banking apps etc.
Already cleared the cached memory, and restarted the phone
I just think it's a bit too much for a one year old flagship device to be that laggy. It was not that fast to begin with but now it's going out of hand. And it is not normal to require a full wipe because of an update, since that makes sense only for us here in XDA but not for the rest of the world.
Anybody with the same problems or suggestions??

I'm already on Oreo and no problems so far without factory reset (updated via LG bridge, OTA always gave me these problems like you are facing right now). This behavior is usually caused by some installed app and not by OS itself. So try to uninstall all unnecessary apps, anyway I guess you can't avoid factory reset in your case...
I also did the update with the bridge, and i am on the hunt for the guilty app!
Apparently I am the only one!
No you are not alone. When Oreo was released, i used flashable .zip (i wiped all partitions including data in TWRP beforehand) and i was experiencing exactly same problems. Sometimes after restarting the phone there was no cell signal at all and i had to restart it once again. But the biggest problems were lag, really noticable lag and battery drain.
I said that can't be right and:
Downloaded Oreo KDZ
Factory reset phone
Flashed KDZ
Manually wiped all partitions (cache, dalvik, system, boot, data) while in Fastboot
Back into download mode and flashed KDZ once again
After going through all this my phone is snappy once again and battery lasts up to two days when I'm not using it too much.
I had Problems, too. I was on Fulmics 4.2 and first tried to install the Oreo ZIP via TWRP. Phone was lagging alot afterwards. I used LGUP and the KDZ next, thereby factory resetting my phone. Everything was snappy afterwards, no overheating or battery drain. I installed TWRP (3.1.1, since 3.2.1 didn't work) via fastboot and flashed Magisk 16.0. Boom, Phone was lagging all over the place, and battery drained fast. Flashed KDZ via LGUP again (Upgrade, not Refurbish), thereby loosing root, but - Phone was snappy, no battery drain.
For the time being, i keep using Oreo unrooted, since i like the new Features, and hope the xpirt will publish a new Version of Fulmics ROM.

When you say "overheating", how many ?
For me since Oreo, I find that the phone heat a little for minor activities : web browsing, whatsapp, switching between different apps... For me the "heating" begins when I can feel a hot point near the fingerprint sensor. By GSam battery monitor, phone is arround 33°.
The max I reached is about 38-40°, especially when I charge the phone with quick charge.
edit : just watching 5min of youtube video with 4G, @480p => 36°
edit 2 : https://www.notebookcheck.net/LG-G6-Smartphone-Review.199364.0.html#toc-emissions
according to notebookcheck, on Nougat it should not exceed 34 degree maximum on max load, and 38 degree when charging
No problems at all here
I also have problems, I installed oreo with TWRP, and since the update, the sound bug and the phone is very slow, after 5 minutes everything becomes normal, but it warms up quickly and the battery is discharging more quickly, otherwise there were improvements, the camera takes a better picture and we lose less battery standby
Usually after a rom flash the phone need about a day to settle down and things became stable.

No, I already had the same issues with Nougat!
Now I bought an OP6 so bye bye forever LG!
Well, inhad to make a clean install by resseting the phone.it was just unusable! The last drop when when I tried to switch cameras from front to back and it just got stuck in between the two.had to wait 25-30 sec for that!
Let the phone settle for some time.

Mine was misbehaving like that for over 3 days. That's something else.
No issues here at all. Got Oreo via OTA on 23 May, despite my unlocked bootloader, otherwise stock. Snappy, normal battery life, can get 2 days out of it with moderate use (native res, WiFi/BT on, Location on high precision, sync on, logs off). Your lag/heat/drain issues don't occur on stock so I doubt it's LG's fault. More likely due to rogue apps or your config.

your case is better my phone is warm and battery drain even we it is ideal after i update to Oreo
After the factory reset, it is much better! It was never as fast an 1+ is but still it's ok. So fat not many issues
I suggest you making sure its a full install (even if it's a dirty flash from kdz rather than OTA...) and rctd disabled if you root
should i debloat in oreo?
