Hey Guys been following this device for a while. I’ve always been interested in the Larger Samsung phones and had a Note 2 and 4. Skipped the Note 5 due to no SD card and was gladly awaiting the Note 7. Couldn’t resists and tried out the Nexus 6P People always rave about due to stock android and as of now I’m ready to come back to Samsung. Have read up on the device and decided I would get the international version. I always root my devices and am not interested in a device that can’t be rooted. Since the T-Mobile version has a locked bootloader and no TWRP and such so I decided to get the international version which prices have now been falling for and some good deals can be had around the holiday time period. I see them new for about $600 now. I was going to miss VoLTE but it seems since development has been cracking for a while there are even workarounds at this point. I don’t care about Samsung pay and am willing to lose that. Anyway my main question since I have very large hands and I definitely lean more to the larger devices. Is the S7 edge worth getting now? I’m thinking if I buy this now I will hold out and see how the S8 is and the Note 8 as well. Good thing I Didn’t jump on the Note 7 on day 1 as I planned as we saw how the whole recall panned over. I was going to buy it off of eBay as well so we saw how that whole fiasco would have went. So I think it’s prudent to wit 1-3 months after a new phone has come out first to see adoption rate as well as how the development community will be. I assume at this point that since I am rooting the device it will have a lot less resale value if I decide to sell it since Knox will be tripped and Samsung Pay won’t work so I want to be sure it’s worth it. I was considering a OnePlus 3T since it’s a lot cheaper at $480 for 128GB but it probably doesn’t make sense to have 2 phone running close to stock android since I will be keeping the 6P as a backup phone. The screen also can’t compare to the s7 edge.
My second issue is that does the S7 edge feel very small in your hands in comparison to the 6P or Note 7? I have large hands so devices that are small make my hands feel cramped. I tried out the S7 and it was way too small. Is the S7 edge comparable to say the Note 4 and Nexus 6P. I did have the opportunity to hold a Note 7 at work and it was the perfect size. Even though I did notice the screens have been staying the same size yet it feels like the devices are shrinking. it’s kind of weird. I’m waiting for Samsung to bump the screen size to say 6.0 inches.
no
If you like the size of the Note 7, you may be OK with an S7 Edge - it's a little smaller, but not too much. It's such a personal thing, though, you should really try to find one to try it out. Here's a size comparison of the Note 7, S7 Edge and S7:
Galaxy sizes
I have the 6P, had a Gen 2 N7 for about 10 days before the final recall and now have an S7E. The S7E and N7 feel very similar in the hand. I wear XL or XXL gloves and also like a bigger phone, so I know where you're coming from there. I put a Speck Candy Shell case on my S7E and it feels very comfortable in the hand now. I also have a case on my 6P, but it's a bit thinner.
At first, I noticed keyboard was a bit smaller, but it's not a big change and I got used to it quickly (using Swype). I have no reason to root this phone. First time ever for me not doing that to an Android phone. The main reason I always rooted was to get an ad blocker, but that's not needed anymore since we have the Block-This app available to side load. And the phone is the best I've ever owned for battery life. It's as fast as the 6P is, too. Very fluid interface. I may end up missing TiBu, but you can still back up most settings pretty easily.
I didn't think it would be a replacement for the N7, and will probably also buy an N8. But I have to say this phone has surprised and impressed me. I'm really very happy with it.

To be honest, I find it's no substitute for handling the phones in person. What looks subtle in the images can feel like quite a difference in the hand.
Hey guys.
I have the Galaxy S6 and I'm wondering if it is worth to upgrade from S6 to S8.
I've been using the S6 for quite some time, and now they launched Android Nougat (7.0) to the Galaxy S6, which I am currently using the official version.
But, I am wondering if I should upgrade to the Galaxy S8 (Non Plus) variant.
I'm in love with s8's screen.
If you can, please post a "reason" why I should or not be upgrading.
Thanks!

Better SOC, better graphics, better screen, more ram, more memory 64gb, sd card, better battery, better camera front and back, usb C, better performance overall......BUT if you didn't see all this already and you're still in doubt, might be that it doesn't worth the upgrade for you.
I did this. Battery almost 2x, Speed great, too.

Same here. Switched from S6 Edge. It is a major upgrade in every way, just like OP said. No regrets.

I upgraded from the S6 Edge to the S8
As the title says I upgraded from the s6 edge and let me tell you it is worth the upgrade! :good:
Not least of all the S8 is waterproof, having paid £250 to repair a water damaged s6 edge last year i think its worth upgrading for this reason alone.
I like the fact the finger print scanner is on the back - it never made sense to me that it was on the front in the first place.
Face unlocker is fast to react.
And I am just chumping at the bit to get a DEX like dock (however at this point not willing to pay £110 for it).
Interesting comments.
I am really tempted into upgrading it. Since my S6 sometimes struggle when I'm scrolling on Chrome or Facebook, and I'm too far down.
I think it is time for that upgrade!
Is the battery really enough? I mean.. 3000 mAH on the S8.

Battery life has been a mixed bag for me - I'm not quite seeing as good a result as I've seen many post but it's likely due to varying conditions. It definitely gets better life than my S6 - I wouldn't make it to Noon with that and I start my day, off the charger at 430am. With the S8, I get through the entire day, no problem but might need a hit from the fast charger if I do some browsing after dinner...

Well you can upgrade but i recommend waiting for another phone with the same SOC...
My dad bought the S8 and is pretty meh...Narrow design, same screen as the s6 just bigger and slightly higher res which makes it looks strange...camera is the same as an S6 on good light conditions and slightly better on dark conditions...Figerprint positioning is absurd...Battery is not that good...SOC is newer but you wont notice any difference unless you try hard...And the price is way too high for whats is worth...
I dont want to start a new thread but i am wondering the same but i am coming from a oneplus one.. again is their any bonus in upgrading.. and how is development for samsung devices
i went from s6 edge + to s8. Very happy so far. the form factor fits better in the hand, software is fine. I like the back being glass. good feel overall.
A BIG YES. I upgrade from a s7 edge and to me it was so worth it
If you like the S6 and want to stay with Samsung, I'd say yes. Otherwise, I'd say wait until more info is available on the Google Pixel 2.
It's such a large upgrade from the S6 it's silly to even have to talk about all the reasons why. For comparison, the S8+ made the S7 Edge seem very dated. There is no comparison, unless you like old, slow phones with far inferior displays, memory size, camera..... I could go on. Not even in the same ballpark. By far the best phone made to date - S8/S8+. That changes every 6 months or so with a new phone taking the crown, but right now this is the top dog.
Agree, S8&S8+ are top-of-the-foodchain!
How are the lags on the S8? Because on the S6 when I'm scrolling in chrome or facebook I get lags. Usual android thing. That's what making me wonder if I should wait iphone 8 or get the galaxy s8. Btw, I don't plan going to Google Pixel 2 because I like the Samsung devices. I've always had Samsung phones. Tried Nexus once but I'm not a fan of stock android.
Upgraded today to the Grey/silver version from S6.
Ordered awesome spigen case too.
Role on Friday.

Zero lag in anything I have done on my S8+. Smoothest, fastest phone I have ever used.
I went from s6 Edge to S8. I think it's worth it. The battery is much better. Bigger screen, not as wide so easier to hold. It's pretty better all around. If you got nougat on your s6 then the software experience will not feel drastically different. Haven't really tested the camera head to head yet.

I have to disagree with you on a few points:
"far inferior displays" - Just because the S8 has a more futuristic look with its smaller bezels and increased height over the S6 I don't see it being fair to consider the S6 to be far inferior. The S6 featured an incredible screen at its time, and compared to alot of flagships out there it still is an amazing screen anno 2017! (pixeldensity is still better on the S6 vs the S8 by the way)
"memory size" - Just because the S8 features 1GB more, it does not mean that you actually use it. Just because it looks better on paper does not make it essential in daily usage. 4GB future proof? Yes! Absolutely necessary at this moment? Probably not.
"camera" - If you are talking about the front facing camera, then yes probably you are right. The rear camera however is only marginaly improved over the S6.
Don't get me wrong, I agree with you that the S8 beats the S6 in all of those points, but I think its actual difference in daily usage is to be argued whether the TS needs to upgrade or not
From S6 Edge to S8 is a perfect upgrade at all levels. I gave S6 to dad and I am using S8
Just wondering if any S8 user has or thought about maybe going back to S7. I love the S8 screen but the narrow design is different. I think I might prefer the S7 size and S8 isn't a big upgrade. imo I've had the S7 over a year which is a long time for me not sure if I want to go back since it will be maybe 5 months when the Note 8 will be out. I'm on T-Mobile Jump and not when I can Jump to my next phone if I stick with the S8. Another thing I bought at T-Mobile store so would have to pay the restocking fee.
i've thought about going back to me S6 edge plus several times, not sure I like the rounded screen edges, all the unlock features either dont work reliably or take several seconds. I find the fingerprint sensor on the back fiddly compared to my S6 so I dont use it. Everything else is fine, speed is good, screen quality very good and camera is slightly better than the S6, having 64 gig also helps though.
Only thing keeping me with it is that offical LED case hasnt turned up yet, if that turns the screen on without having to press the button this might save it for me. Where you can get apps to turn the screen on and off if you are using non samsung cases these apps interrupt the unlocking systems so you have to swipe to open every time, no doubt this is a deliverable decision by samsung to force you to buy one of their flip cases.
Not in a million years. First off, I only had the S7E because my Note 7's finally got bricked by Verizon (IMEI brick). The S7E was a step down from the N7. Now comparing the S7E to the S8+?? Makes the S7E seem very dated. It is not even close. I can't wait until we see what the Note 8 will be - it will be even nicer than the S8/S8+. No way in hello dolly would I take a step back.
S7 very dated come on man It's still a great phone. S7/S8 shouldn't be compared to a Note series. I've been a phone whore since 2000. It's never ending and pricey. I keep telling myself to stop or at least cut back. Phones just don't wow me as much.

I didn't say it WAS dated, but it feels dated compared to the S8. And yes, using them side by side, it feels dated. I also didn't say it isn't a great phone (the S7E), just compared to the S8 it is not nearly as nice. For many people the getting an S7 WOULD be an upgrade. My GF was using an S5, it worked fine for her, but I got her an S8 and it is night and day difference between them. Is what it is.
I have had many, many, many smartphones over the last ten years myself - too many to remember. I usually get at least one upgrade a year, sometimes I have done two. Every time I have upgraded there was a noticeable difference. The Note 4 was the phone I kept the longest (almost 2 years) because the Note 5 had no SD card support. So going from my Note 4 to the Note 7 was a HUGE upgrade. The Note 7 is still nicer than the S7E, but the S8+ is definitely a worthy upgrade to the Note 7. That being said, if I was still able to use my Note 7 I would not have gotten the S8+, but waiting for the Note 8. As is, the S7E was lacking too many things and had a tad smaller display for my needs compared to the Note line of phones and also compared to the S8+.
how it would be like getting s9 port on s7 edge....really...heaven on earth..
No thanks. I want an anti-social phone and I already have to disable too many apps to get it.
its like having golf 3 with v8 engine. its possible, but its still lying to yourself
Well.I wouldnt say that, how much faster do you think Exynos 9810 is? Aside benchmarks, in real life usage is almost the same.Any app opens instantly on s7 too anyway.
Furthermore, i've seen a camera comparison between s9+ and iphone x.The S9+ shots looked better overall but by a small margin, which means its just a little better than our s7 edge. " Camera reimagined" ohh yeah...
Pfft. The only reason I want to upgrade is due to this bloody pink line on my s7. Other than that I would stick with it. Its still a powerhouse for my usage and runs smooth still. Won't be paying for an s9 though, I'll go s8 with is almost identical to the s9 imo, but hopefully soon to be cheaper!

Sell S8 and return to S6E+ ?
Why?
2 or 3 shops have NEW S6E+ (some shops in price higher than new S8 !)
S8 is crazy complicated to me and infinity display is a no go for me.
On S6E+ everything was just perfect like a melody.
Please reply and warn me if I may do something wrong doing this procsss or what will I loose?
PLEASE everybody are free to reply everything what they think. every info is important to me

Does it get Samsung Experiance in any Samsung Update?
(no rooting no custom romming)
PLEASE HELP me dear XDA Users, please respond with whatever thing comes to Your mind!
It already has Samsung Experience 8.0 but it won't get
any update so it won't look as good as S8. Actually, if I had an S8, I wouldn't return it and buy S6 edge+ instead. But if you want to do so, you can. But if you play heavy games or do resorce intense things you should stay on S8. Even S6 edge+'s hardware still good, it is getting older and it can be not enough anymore. After all, this is your decision. Do what you want.

Is the same with even with S7? Would You tell me that?
The S6+ is a beautiful phone. I cannot lie. It is very well made and everything works well.
I have the S8+ and honestly - I would keep the S8 if I were you.
One thing only.... battery.
The S6+ is terrible on battery life, no two ways about it.
Otherwise it's probably the best phone Samsung made (outside of the Note 4).
The metal ring is sheer class and the machining is very fine.
It's slim and it's beautiful - I take it out and just look at it sometimes.
At home it's the first phone I reach for. But the S8+ is just a little more capable.
S6 Edge+ had the best Samsung camera IMHO.
When they have an F1.2 with 16MP sensor it will be top of the hill.

Thank You.
Can You help me out in such a wierd thing: I have S8.... but people in my country are still buying S7(E) like crazy. Maybe they are afraid of the no-bezel and infinity display. I have a problem with S8: due to the lack of borders (bezeles) the hand that is hoding the phone while the other is typing a SMS text message for example the holding hand sometimes touches the screen and puts a letter inside a word or turns on or off some kind of a function.
I got this idea of selling S8 an buying a new S7 flat to not have this problem. What do you PERSONALY/INDIVIDUALY think of this?
Please answer, I will not be angry or any sort of bad emotions.
