Joying 4G US carrier support - Android Head-Units

Anyone in the US using the 4G feature?
What carrier and plan do you have on it?
I got it last weekend and will install it this weekend. I was looking around for a plan, and found it's limited support:
4G SIM Standard & Frequency Supported
GSM: GSM850 EGSM900 DCS1800 PCS1900
WCDMA: BAND1 BAND2 BAND5 BAND8
TD-SCDMA: BAND34 BAND39
TDD-LTE: BAND34 BAND38 BAND39 BAND40 BAND41
FDD-LTE: BAND1 BAND2 BAND3 BAND5 BAND7 BAND8 BAND20 BAND29A
Not Supported
AT&T: BAND12 BAND14 BAND17 BAND29 BAND30 BAND66
Verizon Wireless: BAND13 BAND66
T-Mobile: BAND12 BAND66 BAND71
Sprint:BAND25 BAND26 BAND41
This didn't help me at all, I was hoping to use AT&T prepaid being I have phone service with them.
So if anyone has their Joying running on 4G, please pipe up about carrier and plan.
Or if you can provide some input based of the above supported/unsupported list.
I've been referencing these for determining carrier:
https://www.whistleout.com/CellPhones/Guides/cell-phone-networks-and-frequencies-explained
https://www.signalbooster.com/pages...quencies-of-cell-phone-carriers-in-usa-canada
I find it interesting in the first link, unless it supports a specific band, the carrier won't support it. The "main band".

I can confirm that T-mobile works in the US. Just got service through them for my Intel based Joying unit a few days ago. Was skeptical so I went with a carrier using the bands that Joying states are compatible and that was cheapest to startup in case it didn't work. Opted for their prepaid data only plan 2gb for $10 per month. Add $10 + tax for sim kit activation = $21 and some change. In and out in 15min, slapped it in the holder on a wire and BAM! Works pretty good so far, I'm happy.
I'm assume that Verizon and AT&T would work also.

I know this thread is old but I have something. T-Mobile prepaid plan didn’t work, but a T-Mobile SIM from a phone in their store did, but would be too expensive.
Today I got a Mint Mobile SIM card for their $15/month, 4GB phone plan. It works perfectly. I’m psyched. All done online. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy.

You guys are luckier than me. Just purchased a SIM card from T-Mobile. The head unit isn’t recognizing it. Thought maybe I put it in backwards (can’t though because it can only fit one way) then thought it wasn’t activated but T-Mobile reps confirmed it is. I have the 4G antennas attached too. So frustrating.

I tired that TMobile plan and it don’t work. The head unit recognized the SIM but no data. It worked perfectly with a TMobilr SIM taken directly out of a display phone in he store, but that would have been $40/month!
I bought a Mint Mobile SIM from their website with the 4GB plan for $15/month and it works perfectly. Mint Mobile is the way to go.
Sorry for the double post. It didn’t seem that the first one worked.

Get a Mint Mobile SIM. Worst case you spend $45 and it doesn’t work. I took that risk and it works perfectly. $15/month.

Do you know why the sim taken out of a display phone worked but not the BYOD one they provide (the one that was sent to me)?
I'll look into the Mint Mobile one, thanks. It'd be easier if the T-Mobile thing worked out. I already have lines/data plans with them. Plus, $10/month is nice They also waived the activation fee and the cost of the sim card. Maybe that's why it's not working, lol.

When that $10/month pre-paid card didn’t work one of the sales guys just took a card out of a display phone and it worked perfectly. He said apparently a pre-paid card doesn’t work, but a normal post-paid one does. He didn’t know why, and those were all his words. I can’t explain it really.
Since it wasn’t a problem with the TMobile network, I looked at others that use their network. Mint Mobile was just the best deal and the easiest to try. I’m glad I did. It’s an instant connection and so far flawless.
I couldn’t get a card from Verizon like I wanted to to share my unlimited plan. I tried the Sim out of my iPad too, but that did the same as the TMobile pre-paid card.
Whatever SIM you’re trying. It is critical that after you insert it you reboot the head unit. On mine that’s done by holding the power button (volume knob) in until it reboots.

Wow. Is it really the reboot? Yes, the SIM card is now recognized. I know the manufacturer told me to reboot after inserting the sim, but he didn’t specify it needs to be the volume press/hold. I thought turning the vehicle off and on would suffice. It would be nice if all the options were listed in an actual instruction manual.

It is! Thanks so much for the tip. The 4G speeds are pretty quick (I'm in the metro NY area).

Glad I could help.

Sim Card --> MicroSim

I live in canada.
When I got my HTC HD 7, I wanted to see who it is compatible with. To know if the phone will work with the carrier,
they check the IMEI number.
Another way to check is to insert the micro sim card. But hardly anyone uses micro-sim card these days.
I will have to buy micro sim which cost $10 from rogers, telus and bell to check if it is compatible.
I dont want to end up paying that much money. Do you guyz know if the device will work on bell or telus or bell?
This is a stupid question but please help me.
I could cut it for free for you if you're in Markham. I have the tool.

no. this global pentaband phone that comes factory unlocked will not work on ANY carrier anywhere.
how about using google for this extremely simple answer..
You know, it never hurts to ask your local carrier either. My local AT&T store has the tool and told me to bring in my N4 when it gets in and they'll cut my SIM for me, no charge.
If you search google you can download a microsim template for free.
Buying a Sim cost $10 and buying a Micro_Sim also cost $10 in all this big carriers in Canada.
I just dont where where this nexus 4 will be compatible.

what carrier are you on? is it GSM? if so, pretty much the nexus 4 will work on it then since it has pentaband
so in simpler terms: GSM = nexus 4 will work
and yes, like dondizzurp said, search on google. even better, go to the play store where the device specs is actually there https://play.google.com/store/devic...wNV9uZXh1c1VTXzFfcHJvbW9fMTM1MTg3NzIzNzM2NCJd
The N4 works on ALL Canadian carriers, including Wind and Mobilicity, but you're only going to get DC-HSPA+ 42 on Telus, Bell and their MVNOs.

Just check in the Carrier website what frequencies use, Nexus 4 use 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz for GSM
and 850 / 900 / 1700 / 1900 / 2100 for 3G, HSDPA. it's almost all the planet frequencies unless LTE.
Can we stop with the sim----> micro sim threads already? There have been at least 10 in the last few days. Search people.

It won't work with Public Mobile, please don't use ALL or else some people might think it'll work on Public Mobile which it doesn't since it's the only carrier left not using GSM.

I doubt that will work here (in canada) they won't admit to a phones existence until they sell it, its really sad, I called and asked about the N4 and they kept saying "yeah the galaxy nexus is blah blah blah" was really annoying..

Sim Card

okay i just ordered my Nexus4 (16GB) , will the sim card be the same from the Galaxy nexus or would i have to pay T-Mobile a visit?
I'm in a similar situation, except I don't even have a Sim Card
Everything I've read about the Nexus 4, says it's a Micro Sim. So you have to cut it yourself, or go into a T-Mobile store. My questions is:
Can I go into a T-Mobile store with my Nexus 4 and buy a Micro-Sim? How much will it cost? And will they set up and activate my phone/plan in store? (Want to go with the $30 a month pre-paid plan).

Yeah, it's definitely a micro SIM. I'll be going to a T-Mobile store to get my SIM cut as well, and they usually do it for free.
They won't set up your prepaid plan in store, though. The $30/month plan is only available online, and you can't transfer your current number. Furthermore, you need an activation kit which includes the SIM card, or an activation number if you have an existing SIM card. Neither of those can be purchased from their retail stores, you'll need to call or go online. Link for the micro SIM activation kit.
Thanks. So if I buy an Activation kit on Amazon (can't post links) but: T-Mobile USA (Tmobile T Mobile) SIM Card and Prepaid Activation Kit
I just take the sim card into the store, and they cut it? Thanks for the heads up about them not selling the activation kit in stores. I was going to just walk into the store with my Nexus 4 and try to get it all done then. I should order my Sim card now, so I can have it in time for my Nexus 4.
EDIT: Can you go into a T-Mobile store, buy a regular Sim Card? Then have them cut it? Then just go online and set up the activation?
Or do you have to buy the activation kit to do it. According to their site:
Micro SIM Cards
Micro SIM cards for non-T-Mobile devices are available in our Retail stores and on My T-Mobile; however, microSIM cards cannot be ordered through Customer Care.
If a micro SIM card is purchased, keep in mind:
3G functionality on the T-Mobile network is unfortunately not an available feature of the Apple iPhone, due to the absence of the 3G 1700 band.
T-Mobile uses both the 1700 / 2100MHz frequencies to transmit voice and data services. Both frequencies are required. If a device only has one of these frequencies, it CANNOT use T-Mobile’s 3G network.

I called T-Mobile and ordered a micro sim. Cost was $1.06 shipped. Should be here today.
Look at the thread about micro Sims I am the accessories section.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1973646
For anyone else that is confused, I just went to T-Mobiles site and did their live chat. Took 3 min, and got everything sorted out. It's pretty easy (and I feel foolish for being confused, especially when you good folks gave a clear answer).
But basically, you just order the Microsim Activation Kit. And you are good to go. I really wish I would have done this a week ago in preparation for this. Google claims my Nexus 4 will be on the 15th. T-Mobile claims my Sim Card will be 15-19th (2-4days). I'll be really sad if it doesn't get here by the weekend. And I'm stuck without a phone until Monday.
That's my own fault though.

T-Mobile Nexus 6 works on all carriers CONFIRMED

Hey guys,
I just purchased a nexus 6 from t-mobile and popped in a sim from att, sprint, and Verizon. I can confirm all 3 worked flawlessly with no problems.
At the device start up, i did skip the part where it tried to activate on the network the sim was from.

Unless something has changed with CDMA technology, the Verizon phones shouldn't be able to use data while on an active call. I know they are working to get that working with some new LTE standard but I haven't heard anything about it being here yet.

I'm considering switching to TMo anyway, so I picked up 30 days of pre-paid with the phone for 45$. I plan to try both carriers on my commute, see how signal is on both carriers on the train ride, downtown at work, etc. before making up my mind, and this device makes it as easy as swapping the SIM out!
The issue I had, was I didn't have a nano-SIM. Verizon rep at the store told me there was nothing they could do... I told them if he got me a nano-SIM, that customer support could active it... He gave me a SIM and let me use their phone to call Support to activate it. The support person did a "SIM swap" for my existing device, even though my Note3 obviously doesn't use a nano-SIM.. but that's all it took to activate the nano-SIM, and it works perfectly.
I may be misunderstanding your question... I believe the confusion is that you don't actually activate the phone... you activate the SIM IN the device. You should be able to take the phone out of the box, and drop in an already activated SIM and all will work fine...

Lol. Yea that's what I was worried about. I didn't want to buy it then down the road oh yea this I.d. doesn't work anymore.
I did not register my device on T-Mobile at all. Just popped the other sims in.
What I'm told is that carriers only care about imei when activating for the first time. If you just put your own sim in there they just can't see the device type which really doesn't matter unless you're looking to call them for support.
T mobile store gave me **** about buying the phone out right. I had to get a friend to add me as an authorized user on his account to buy the phone OUTRIGHT. So stupid...
Also, at T-Mobile the phone out right was 649 where everyone else is like 50 or 40 bucks more which was also sweet.
I also did not get bloat Ware on the phone from the carriers.
The devices CDMA identifier (MEID??) needs to be in the carriers whitelist so if the OP didn't place a voice call over either the Sprint or Verizon networks itnis not "safe" to to say it works on all carriers.
This is supposed to be one model for all of the US with 4 SKUs for the variations, and it should work but there is still the question of whether the CDMA carrier. Allows the phone on their network.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk
I can confirm I've activated my nexus bought directly from moto on both sprint and T-Mobile. Both voice and data worked with each carrier. Sprint takes a little more when than just putting the Sim in. They need to activate the MEID in their system. You can't just put an active Sim from another phone in and have it work.
Interesting..
Other users have reported the exact opposite.

Buying from T-Mo living in a non-T-Mo area
Yes. I must be one of the only people on here in the U.S. not living in a T-Mo area.
I just ordered from T-Mo (64GB MB). After much conversation and clarification, I've learned that one can buy a Nexus 6 from them outright, which requires also buying a $10 SIM activation kit. Since I do not live in a T-Mo area, I will have to call and cancel my 'yet-to-be-activated' plan, which also required a $50 deposit. By utilizing T-Mo's "buyer's remorse", I will be able to keep the phone, since I bought it outright, but will be refunded my $50 deposit for the service, without ever having to activate it on T-Mo's network. From there, I will pop in my AT&T SIM card, and be on my way! The only thing I'll be out is the $10 SIM activation kit.
Also, the rep's did acknowledge that the Nexus 6 is one of the few phones they have that are already unlocked.
Please do critique this if you foresee any problems I'll have popping in my AT&T SIM and using my existing service with them.
EDIT: Yargh. T-Mo had zero 64GB phones, and have since called me back to tell me they are on back order. But hey... at least I have an order in now. Beats what I've accomplished so far on the Play store all to hell.

This is incorrect, it has been working for 3 years now. Data while on a phone call has been working since LTE came out. It worked on my Note 2, Note 3, and currently works on my Galaxy S5. Also works on my families HTC M7 and M8.
However, it no longer works on the Droid Turbo, and now I believe the N6.
But the original assumption was incorrect, data + voice has been working for years. They did something now that it is not working on new devices coming out.

Using Verizon in Mexico with the Pure... Not that easy

So, my wife and I are heading to Mexico next week and I wanted to be able to have international usage for emergencies. My wife is using the S6 edge purchased through VZW and I of course have my X Pure. We were able to add an Int'l plan on her line but with mine it didn't work. The call got escalated to support and the rep mentioned that the phone may not be in registered in the system (I just cut my micro-sim and placed it in the pure). He said he was going to fill out a form adding the IMEI to the system and that should fix the issue in 3 business days. Have any of you guys heard of this?
I can't speak for Mexico but we are going on a cruise next month. I had Verizon send me a sim before I got my X. I activated it on the new sim with no issues. I then called them and said we were taking an Eastern Caribbean cruise next month and mine got setup with no problem. They will probably have you up and running.
Not sure how long you are going for but paying for roaming to verizon is a lot of money if you go over the data. Did you think of buying a prepaid sim there?pretty sure you would save a lot of money.
Don't add international to your plan. Just buy a prepaid SIM when you get to Mexico. It will be much cheaper and it will work with 0 Verizon BS issues getting in your way.

Actually, we've been with VZW FOREVER. So, there is a promo for tier 1 customers: 500 min calling/ 500 text outgoing w. unlimited incoming/ 1 GB data - free for each line for one billing cycle. Then its $25. So, this actually is the cheapest way to go.

If you opt out for buying a pre-paid SIM in Mexico for the GS6, be sure to get a IUSACELL or UNEFON (Iusacell subsidiary) SIM card, which are the only carriers in Mexico that have CDMA technology because your GS6 VZW phone will not work correctly with another carrier's SIM (been there, done that myself).
The MotoX should work perfectly with any carrier (at least mine is working perfectly in Movistar) as it has all bands activated.

S4 with Straight Talk - Verizon or T-Mobile

So I need a phone for a while on a pre-paid cash only plan. I was going to pick up a straight talk card from Walmart. I have 2 old Samsung S4 phones from Verizon and T-Mobile. Will the sim card activation chip I get work on either one of them, or does it have to be specific to the previous carrier. Is there an advantage to going with one or the other. I would prefer to put my own rom on there if possible since it is such an old phone. Is one going to be better suited than the other. As far as I know, both phones are out of contract. I know for sure the Verizon phone is already unlocked via verification from Verizon.
Thank you.
If you're buying an activation package from WalMart ($45 airtime card plus SIM), it should come with multiple SIM cards for Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile. Thus you can use the service on any phone. If it doesn't, you'll likely have a GSM SIM, meaning you would need to use the T-Mobile S4 to get service.
The advantage to using Verizon is access to Verizon's network, which is the largest in the country. The disadvantage is that your LTE speeds are throttled to 5MBps. With T-Mobile, your network is much smaller, but your LTE I don't believe is throttled. I personally would take the time to carrier unlock your T-Mobile device (see the thread we have on unlocking phones in the General section), and then use the AT&T SIM. With AT&T, you get a network nearly as large as Verizon, plus LTE is not throttled.
As to ROMs, you're simply going to have to try them. Regardless of the ROM you use, so long as you know how to set up an APN in settings, you're good. Straight Talk changes their APNs from time to time, and the ROMs don't always use the latest APN.
Very good information and exactly what I was looking for. One more question on that if you don't mind. If I start out on Straight talk with the AT&T, can I switch over to Verizon a week or two later effortlessly, or would I need to do something to switch sims?
I do not know how to change APN's, but I am sure I can find the answer to that using search.
Thank you.
If you wanted to switch over to Verizon from AT&T, you would need to transfer your service from the AT&T SIM to the Verizon SIM. To do this, you have to go online to Straight Talk's website. Now, while they do offer an automated procedure to do this, the best thing to do is open up a chat window to one of their support reps, and have the support rep process the service swap.
Keep in mind two things.
Once you switch SIM cards, the old SIM is no longer usable. Should you change your mind and want to go back to AT&T, you would need to purchase an AT&T SIM off Straight Talk's website. They normally charge $15 plus shipping for the privilege, but if you hit it right you can often get the SIM cards for a dollar plus shipping, which is somewhat more palatable. I will say that when you get your next phone, you'll likely have to get a Nano SIM. However, you can then go onto Amazon and purchase a SIM adapter, just in case.
I am a person who believes in getting everything that you pay for, and with Verizon, a throttled LTE service doesn't qualify as getting everything that you pay for. Thus, I do not recommend switching to Verizon, ever. Stay with AT&T.
Ok. Good advice. Thank you.
The only reason I wanted to try both was because I am in a high rise where service can be sketchy. Not sure which one will work best up here. I currently have Sprint which does not work at all.
