Hello XDA, I appreciate all you have done for me and my tech endeavors SO I found it necessary to post my results with the community.
Recently I was gifted a Note 8, told it was paid-off, not wanting to wait 3 days for Sprint to MAYBE unlock the bootloader, I set off to work around that by searching through these forums to find that the solution was not as simple as I'm used to.
Here's what I've done to gain access to WiFi again.
Note 8 had Oreo installed (and SIM card removed) I used Odin to flash VZW's Pie (using SamFirm to download, as SamMobile is painfully long). Everything finished installing, but before rebooting the final loading screen sorta stalled, then proceeded to boot. As you may know, it showed the Sprint logo (I panicked and held the down button to put device into safe mode, for control). Next, I decided to go through the Pie setup without allowing the device to access Wi-Fi or Data. Turn on airplane mode ASAP. After I got to the home screen, I stopped ALL automatic updates in settinga, opened developer options, running services, and cancelled everything that would let me, specifically: Chameleon, Sprint Hub, Sprint Voicemail, Sprint ID, RootPA, DRParser Mode, MTP Application, bootagent, Sprint OMADM, com.sec.phone (THIS ONE made the difference in ADB, I was actually able to communicate with my device, see the serial code and everything!, THIS is why I wanted to share with this genius community..and this next one, maybe?), com.samsung.android.smartswitchassistant, tethering automation, and security policy updates. Stop all of those processes, and force stop/disable/remove permissions from all of those (when switching device or WiFi on/off, monitor the running services for those & keep them shut off or they WILL help Sprint "seal the deal"). Make sure to disable/force stop "configuration update". After that I entered PhoneUtil by going to the dialer and pressing ##3424#, then switching the UART from PDA to CDMA MODEM.
Now, I turned on my WiFi (with airplane mode still on), and signed into my router, seen Sprint Hub trying to process a request, went to running services, shut it down & force stopped it, seems to stay off until the phone was restarted, at which point I shut it down.
Again, by doing all of this I was able to get ADB & Kingo Root (desktop) to fully recognize the device, I was able to access Wi-Fi & run "harmful" apps that could help use bruteforce our way past the bootloader lock. SO if there's anything I can do to help, please let me know.
Thanks again!

Hi All,
Please help. I'm a rookie at rooting and have an unlocked Japanese Note 3 through AU (my Japanese service provider). I was in a rush and paid someone to unlock it before heading back to the States last year. The phone works with my AT&T sim card but when I am back in Japan (with Japanese sim) I am constantly being dropped from the network. 4G service usually works for internet, etc, but I cannot make/receive phone calls and only occasionally can send/receive text messages. I need to know if I should re-root the phone (and leave it rooted) or just do a factory reset (or perhaps change some other setting to get things working again)? The problem with a factory reset is that it will probably re-lock the phone and I don't have a code.
Strange Detail:
Whenever I try to dial a number, the name of a Chinese Province shows up under the Contact's Name. This suggested to me some network issue where the phone somehow thinks it's in China (though texts still kinda work...) and doesn't connect correctly to the Japanese network.
Details:
Model: sm-N900J (per the download screen) i believe this means it has a SnapDragon Processor
Knox warranty has been tripped (apparently by the guy I paid to unlock it originally - is that bad?)
Android 4.3 (looks like I'm still in the original version of Jellybean. Should I upgrade to Kitkat or Lollipop?)
Other Issues:
As of two days ago, the phone now restarts after about 5 minutes of use. Like many Note 3 phones, it's always done the occasional random restart (another reason to root?) but now it's making the phone almost unusable. Also, since having the phone rooted/unlocked/re-rooted I always get a series of warnings upon start-up. Typically, standard Samsung apps like S Planner, Calendar Storage, Keyguard and Index Service have stopped. I have never been able to use the Calendar (or other basic apps) since it always crashes. Is this an issue with Knox clashing with something from the original root (I still see SuperSU loaded -but "turned off"- in the apps menu)?
Idealy...
...someone can help me decide the best course of action (Root, Reset, Other), and how to make sure I can connect back up to my Japanese network properly. I think I'd prefer to root since what I want is an unlocked phone that works smoothly, with good battery life, little to no bloatware, a custom theme and a working S pen. If I root, what's the best method (already have SuperSU apparently) and which ROM and version of Android would be the most stable?
Main Issues Recap:
No connection to phone network (or limited 4G internet).
Phone restarts every few minutes.
Many Apps crash upon Start-up.
Thanks in advance!
So, here's an update that someone with a similar problem might find useful...
Japan uses CDMA for voice and GSM for LTE Data. Somehow (probably through using my phone in the states on a GSM network) the phone was no longer connecting to the CDMA network. Since I'd gotten no responses and felt like there was a good chance that a factory reset would not reverse the sim-unlock I'd stupidly paid to have done, I did a factory reset. Despite appearing to have solved my Index Service, Calendar Storage, S Planner crashing issues, I was still having the exact same problem of LTE working but no CDMA network.
Somehow I stumbled on to this website...(well, I'm unable to post as a new user but searching for "How To Fix Samsung Galaxy error while searching for network" should bring it up).
There, I found some really odd directions that solve network error issues. The only part of the instructions I was really able to carry out was take out the battery and simultaneously press the home and power buttons 10 times. I restarted my phone and miraculously was able to place a call for the first time in a year in Japan!
But then I no longer had any data. I figured it had to do with the APN settings being wiped in the strange reset I just tried. But when I went into Settings>More Networks>Mobile Networks there was no longer an Access Point Names option in the menu. There is no longer a "Network Mode" option either. I used to have that set to LTE/WCDMA/GSM but now I only see a System Select option that simply lets me change my CDMA roaming mode from Automatic to Home Only.
I tried searching everywhere for the missing Access Point Names menu to no avail (and almost attempted to try flashing CyanogenMod for the time hoping this would bring back the APN settings menu) but then I realized that I could do a search in the settings app. I searched APN and the option came right up (though it's frustrating that this now appears to be hidden). Using the following settings (copied below) from the AU by KDDI website I created a new APN profile. Now mobile date appears to be working just fine too!
So, now I just need to decide if I want to keep running Touchwiz in Jellybean or use my new found confidence to try rooting and custom roms...
I'm also kind of curious to see that the next phone bill comes in as expected and I'm not being charged for a bunch of crazy usage! Also, any suggestions to help explain how I got into this problem in the first place, or how to clean up any loose ends would be appreciated.

Hello all,
Got my G955N in my hands. Followed the threads here to get TWRP installed, used it to install Batman ROM, then used TWRP to flash the AT&T CSC as my provider is AT&T.
In my pull down menu I do have the option for WIFI calling, however whenever I hit it, it fails (seems I can't post pics, so here is the text I get: "Loading, this may take a few moments" then it blinks a few seconds in and repeats. Then it goes to "Please try to set up WIFI calling again later."
I know it's an issue with my phone specifically because my wife's AT&T iPhone7 has WIFI calling working fine (not an ISP issue at home) and I swapped her SIM into my phone and I still got the same error. So it's something with the phone and not likely an account level issue (although maybe? Who knows at this point?)
Also, when I enter the testing menu, I see that "Data Service: Disconnected" which I'm not sure is right? Also, VOLTE Provisioned is not selected, however each time I do select it, it immediately goes back to deselected the moment I navigate away from the testing menu. I can reselect it all day and it still goes back to deselected the moment I move out of the screen.
I've read until my eyes bleed and tried just about everything I could find to try and no joy.
Any ideas?
P.S. got pics if anyone wants me to email them to you for clarity. Guess I'm too new here to be allowed to post pics
To follow up:
Turns out it was an account based issue. Seems AT&T tries to verify the IMEI when attempting to use Wifi calling. So unless registered in the network, it isn't going to work.
And the kicker is, AT&T won't allow Wifi calling or other services with any phone they didn't sell. You can toss in your SIM and use calling, but they won't activate other features if you try to bring your own phone.
So I spent yesterday switching to T-mobile and am now fully functional with all the features of my phone working as they should. AT&T lost me as a customer.
So my dad works for a company that issues him a phone. When he is issued a new one I usually get his hand me downs. I just got a Samsung S8 from him that apparently was programmed to be locked down with a MDzm of Samsung. It automatically leads up with every boot and tries to register the phone. It locks the home button but I have circumvented this by installing a home button app. The phone is totally useable now but the security policy won't let me use the camera. Is there ahyway to either remove the MDM all together or a work around to at least be able to take pictures? I have tried disabling Samsung Knox as an administrator but it is greyed out and so is the ability to install unknown apps so a modded apk seems to be out of the question as well. Thank you all for any help!!
Most likely he will need his company to unenroll him. I work for att field services and have the same thing, our mdm is mobile iron. In order to unregister the device i would need to go to a website (att proprietary) login with my credentials and retire my device. Then you launch the mdm manager apk and it phones home, sees your no longer a user and unlocks the device. From there you uninstall the apk as normal.
You can try a factory reset, but if they log imeis your dad will need to have IT retire his old device.
My Wife accidentally forgot her lockscreen password, I’ve tried to reset it with samsung’s find my mobile service and Google’s lost phone service.
The first (Samsung find my mobile) appears to be turned off in device, I can locate the phone but either can’t start backup / remove lock screen. The Google’s service unable to locate the phone while it’s turned on, connected to the network and location services work.
The last thing I could do is reset the phone, as in phone we have lot's of memories.
If anyone here had issue like me, please share the solution.
Thank you.
Hi folks, I would really appreciate some help (sorry for the long-winded post.)
I have an S7 Edge SM-G935W8 that I received as a "hand me down". It was reset to factory and updated to the latest firmware last week.
The phone was locked to Tellus and, as a SIM card is required to enable the mobile hotspot, I had Samsung unlock the phone so that it would recognize my old Bell SIM card in order to enable the mobile hotspot. The SIM card is not provisioned as I don't intend on using this phone as my daily driver and I don't require internet or data. I simply want to use it as a backup camera for my travel trailer by setting it up as a mobile hotspot using the camera to stream to my tablet using IP Webcam Pro.
This setup works relatively well but I only have the 2.4Ghz band available to me on this phone, which leads to a slightly choppy stream. It's not bad, but not great. I would prefer to use the 5Ghz band since it has less interference and thus runs faster, which I believe would yield better video quality. That being said however, the 5Ghz option is not available under the mobile hotspot advanced settings on this phone.
I then decided to root the phone, which I did without issue by enabling USB Debugging and OEM Unlock in developer option. I then successfully installed TWRP and tried both Lineage 17.1 and 18.1 since the 5Ghz does show up under the mobile hotspot advanced settings. Great I thought as the video feed was indeed better! That was until I discovered that there are issues with the video camera with these versions of Lineage whereby it works fine for about 15 or 20 minutes then the screen goes green and you need to reboot the phone in order to get the camera working again. I tried installing Footej to see if that would make a difference but it did not.
Soooo, I returned the phone to stock with ODIN and we're back to where I was before. It's a setup that works but could be better. I read that the 5Ghz band could be enabled with CSC Features Expert but you need root. OK, so I go back into developer options to enable USB debug and OEM Unlock like I did a few days ago and lo and behold, it no longer stays enabled. The option is there, NOT greyed out or anything. I toggle enable, get the message about device protection... and an option to cancel or enable. I click enable and it goes on then quickly goes off again so it now seems I can't root the phone anymore
I've scoured this site high and low, googled everythhing I could think of but I seem to be running around in circles. I can re-install the latest stock version of the firmware from any provider in Canada (I've tried a bunch) but the same always happens. The OEM unlock options gets enabled for a fraction of a second then turns off again. Can this option be forced on using ADB or Fastboot or some other method?
My goal is to root it again in order to install CSC Features Expert so I can enable the 5Ghz band in the mobile hotspot advanced settings. It also appears I can't downgrade to anything because Samsung updated the bootloader in the latest firmware. ODIN fails at installing any stock firmware except for the most recent.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
