Boost Mobile only working with stock ROM? - Moto G5 Plus Questions & Answers

Hey, I'm using Boost Mobile and I've been trying to update to a custom ROM, but every time I do so it's just detected as a Sprint SIM card, which forces me to have 3G. If I reflash a stock ROM, support comes right back. I've already tried backing up my EFS and persist with the stock ROM, then restoring it after installing a custom ROM, and nothing changes. My IMEI is still intact, so why would a custom ROM not let me use Boost? Does it have something to do with APNs?

I remember using a Virgin Mobile phone with custom ROMs back in the day. If I remember correctly, you had flash a separate file after the ROM to get LTE support. I can't remember exactly what it fixed, but I do know it did the same thing you're experiencing if you didn't. Sorry I can't be more help.

I'm using mine on Virgin Mobile which requires more changes than metro, and it works fine after ODINing to DL09.
You can update anything you want... ROM, Radio.. ETC... everything for Metro settings are stored in EEPROM.
Flashed and Odined diff radios, roms, kernels on my Fascinate and I'm on Cricket which is very similar to Metro ...everything still works

Unlocking options?

Realizing I can't unlock my bootloader via motopocalypse because its latest OTA and I can't GSM unlock it for use on US carriers. Am I stuck on stock with Verizon?

You can GSM unlock regardless of OTA version. There are a few stock-based ROMs out there for Safestrap once you root.

OK I didn't have any luck with the radiocomm app and editing the nv item. I have root currently but that's it. I've never flashed a ROM without an unlocked bootloader so can you direct as to how this works as well as describing "safestrap".

Thanks for the info. One question. Since virtual ROM slots use storage as would the stock system am I able to create a virtual ROM, install a custom ROM and delete the stock system?
I've used safe strap on the og RAZR and the d4... it does use the internal SD storage space... and I do not believe you can delete the stock slot nor flash anything on the stock slot... tho it may differ on this device...

I wouldn't do that because the ROM slots depend on the stock boot.img to run. However, there is a restore procedure that should work. You can set up a slot, flash the ROM, set it up, and then back it up. Once you have it backed it up, you can restore (not flash) over your stock slot. Then you can delete the custom slot. I've never used this procedure, but I have seen quite a few people do this with success.
I see you're saying you can end up using your stock slot through this method. Basically what I want to know is if I flash a ROM on a virtual slot does my old stock ROM just sit on my sys partition without being used?

Yeah, supposedly you can use your stock slot. I'll post the link to the post on DroidRzr.com where it's discussed. Don't quote me on this, but I think it does sit there unused. The other slots only use its boot image. I'm pretty positive it doesn't do anything else when you boot into the safe side.

That app didn't work for me at all. Each time I installed to a ROM slot it would boot to a black screen, couldn't ever get a ROM to load. A bunch of people had the same issue. Tried reinstalling the slot multiple times before giving up. This phone has given me hell since I got it. Motorola phones are really locked down.

What ROMs were you trying? There are very few SS compitble ROMs out there. The app can still work for you, as far as making backups, etc.
I tried slimbean. I didn't know there was a requisite for what ROM you could flash. I'm selling the phone I'm not terribly concerned any more.

Yeah, with SS you can only flash SS compatible ROMs. Slim Bean is not SS compatible. Either way, good luck with the sale.

I asked about this before and couldn't get confirmation that this could be done. Suppose someone on droidrzr.com might know for sure? I want to do just as you say with a debloated stock "plus goodies" ROM and then restore over the stock slot.

The person that did the write up on DroidRzr did it and know other people have done it. I never did it but it makes sense that it should work. Just have utility or XML ready if something goes bad.
With a rooted, but locked bootloader, I will still be able to flash a SS rom that allows me to tether?
At this point, that and debloating are my main reasons for rooting.
I'm looking to upgrade from a Thunderbolt to a Razr M. I want to make sure I'm not trading one set of problems for a new set.

Yep. You can tether on stock actually... If you're on a share everything, you get it out of the box, otherwise you need to do a hack using sqlite editor or something

So which ROMs are safestrap compatabile with the locked bootloader? I am trying to help a friend with his phone unfortunately he took the ota update and his bootloader will stay locked for the moment. That said I rooted and installed safestrap so I'm looking to install a compatible ROM and get this phone on straight talk with a ST SIM card. Any suggestions?

Back from G3 need help

Just returned the D850 I had because I could never get the quick remote to function correctly like my G2 and the screen was subpar in all respects minus the resolution. Anyway I like my G2 better except for the inability to run ROMs other than stock. Every ROM I flash I can't get LTE and can't send a text but can revieve them. I've flashed lots of times back and forth with the factory tots and all is fine. Even flash stock rooted kk ROMs in twrp and it's good. Flask CM11 or the G3 and others and it's always the same deal. I have tried flashing the kk modem and entering in other APNs other than the ATT Phone one that works with the ATT ROM no dice. When I search for mobile operators I never see LTE. On the G3 rom I have tried deleting the LTE apks and modding the build prop as suggested. I just can't figure this out. TIA for any help

[Q] Boost flashed no 3G when on custom ROM

My S4 is flashed to Boost Mobile. Whenever I install a custom ROM I get no 3G or 3G appears for no more than 2 seconds then its 1X. I nandroid backuped to stock and same problem so then I installed a Stock Deodexed NG2 Refitted ROM and right when this ROM boots Boost ID pops up it installs apps and puts it to my boost homescreen setting and my 3G and everything works fine. APN settings are the same when I switch ROMs so I have no idea what the problem is. I want to install a custom ROM like NegaLite but I am stuck at this point.
Have you tried using an app like apn backup and restore?
What are your apn settings on aosp? Are you on the latest modem firmware?

Right now I am on NG2 4.4.2 Stock deodexed NG2 Refitted ROM. This is the only ROM that my 3G works. My 3G worked on stocked rooted then I went to Negalite didn't work. So I nandroid to my stock rooted and 3G didn't work anymore so I tried this ROM i currently am on and it works.
My apn settings are all Sprint APNs and everything works fine and when I flash a ROM my APns are still the same but 3g is ****. I tried using APN backup and restore on this ROM it lets me disable ICS Check but when I install a different ROM that doesn't work so I can't use it. I even tried moving it to the system. I appreciate your reply

Are you sure it's true 3g on the refitted ROM. Sometimes it shows 3g but its really 1x. You can check under about phone status. 3g normally works for me as soon as I flash..no need to add apns. I only have to edit mmsc in APN settings to get MMS.
That's what usually happens to me. I installed Sac's ROM and everything works and I actually really like this ROM so I'm going to stay on here. I'm still trying to figure out how to remove this data stat notifiation or something on the top right and also how would I remove a NO SIM notification since I'm on Boost now I don't need a SIM

x727 no data connection on metro pcs

Just got the phone today, already rooted and cm13 installed.. switched the devices on my account and calls sms works but no data
I fixed the apn settings, tried flashing modem 5.8.019s, "data" option is enabled. does anyone know how to fix it? Ill try another rom and see what happenes...
Change your data connection to lte
Change it to this

I agree with the setting change, you could also try manually updating your APN.
I am curious on why you are using a much older Rom? If you migrated to an up to date Oreo build of Lineage, AEX, AICP, or AOSIP, you would unlikely experience any issue.
If you want the best 6.01 rom i highly recommend aopk.

You were correct, new ROMs work, I just usually prefer cm over other ROMs...
Anyway to get xposed to work on an 8.1 ROM?
No luck installing magisk or xposed...
Edit: used xposed 3.1.1
