Disappearing memory card (Android 7.1.2) - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I have a problem with external memory (MicroSD). For some time now I see that my memory card is automatically unmounted from time to time. What's more interesting, Android claims that the card is not inserted at all (I can not install it myself). After some time, the memory card mounts itself again. Often, I need to use files from the card, and it is unmounted. Oddly, in the TWRP recovery mode, the memory card is also not visible and I can not mount it myself. I tried to connect another memory card, but it does not detect another card. It just unmounts it all the time, and after some time it mounts, then again the same thing happens again and again. I am asking for help, I do not know what to do: /
Mounting via USB is correct.

[Q] Access to bootable sd card from stock OS after 1.4.1 update

I have a nook color with dual boot from sd card. The sd card having an android 3.0 version.
After I got the 1.4.1 update, I noticed that I was able to access the sd card( the boot partition alone) from the stock OS boot of nook.
But now, dont know how, I dont see that anymore.
Was this a flawed update that was fixed or am I missing something.
Do help please.
I could really use the advantage of using the bootable sd card as a regular storage card when using the stock OS of nook. I prefer reading on the stock OS of nook.
Not sure why you're not seeing the SD card anymore, does it still boot?
SD card installs create multiple partitions on the SD card and the Nook will only be able to access the first one (boot). It should be accessible with any version of the Nook default OS.
You should have a media partition with a decent amount of room (1-5gb depending on NC version). That would give you more room than the 100-or-so mb on the boot partition.
Just found out that you can point the emmc install to see the "sdcard" partition of the sd card using the following info:

Yes, I can boot from it. Every time I plug in the SD card, the notification already says that it is safe to remove the SD card. In the device Info part of the setting, the "Unmount SD card" is already greyed, though it does say that the SD card is found.
It is however useful for me to know that the boot partition should always be accessible.
I did remove the SD card a couple of times without unmounting it first, could this possibly have corrupted the card?

Try to boot the uSD card (the one with Android 3.0 on it) and see what happens.
If it can, then it's good, if not, you can say it's corrupted.
Yes, I can boot from it. So I assume the card is OK
I plugged in other uSD cards and they get recognized fine. So I assume the Nook stock OS device recognition is OK.
I should probably recreate the boot partition as a last ditch effort
I had the same problem at first, but now I have mounted the correct sdcard partition that I wanted to mount.
I couldn't get it to work with editing the vold.fstab file at first. Then at some point after I manually mounted the correct partition through adb shell and edited the vold.fstab it now works.

I selecting the Unmount SD Card > Erase SD Card data while booted to Android. After I restarted my phone, (it was now switched to windows 6.5) It is no longer detecting my SD Card at all. I tried reseting to factory settings but that didnt work. It is a 2 gb SD card. i dont care about the files in it, I was want it to detect the SD card with all its storage space. Any help would be greatly appreciated. =)

Take the card out, put it in a card reader, card reader goes in the PC and format to FAT32. It should work then. If it still doesn't, you could try software from this site:
http://www.partitionwizard.com/
It's a partitioning software. You can check the health of the card, it could be that it's just dead. You can probably get a new 8GB microSD for around $6.
Good luck!
Did you try changing it?

my note not recognise my SD card

Hello. Plz help.my note not recognize my sd card suddenly when i power off the phone then opened again. In addition the computer also suddenly nt recognize phone but the odin recognise when put it in USB debugging mode.also when open gallary it says SD card is in USB storage mode......thanks alot
does the sd card work in a different phone?
same here, my sd card works on other phone
Yes it works....also when opening camera it says turn off usb mass storage
But in recovery mood.it can read the sd when click on install zip from sd card
In recovery mode the inbuild memory is called sdcard, some not-stock recovery can separate between the two memories.
That said, your mentioning maybe wrong.
Is the card mSDXC, or regular mSDHC?
If there's nothing important on your card, try to format it inside the Note.
If there's important stuff on it, copy it to your pc (using a USB-SDHC-Cardreader) and format it inside the Note after that.
Sometimes the connection between the sdcard and the phone gets disturbed, so manual ejection of the sdcard out of the Note, cleaning the sdcard-contacts and putting it in again (repeat for 2 to 4 times) may help, too.

What ROM are you using?
By the way, android needs to format a new sdcard so it can be used to store data on.

aurora ics. i want to get back to stock 2.3.5 cause can't stand the battery drain any more but i can't as bootloader doesn't recognize the sd card
So your sdcard is pretty much completely dead? Can your computer recognize your SD card? If your pc can recognize it but your phone can not then you should send your phone to service. Also try reformatting the SD card and installing Aurora ICS by doing a clean install through your internal SD card.
EDIT: You can install zips from internal SD card using TWRP v2.5.0.0 by forumber2.

Hey. Thanks for your reply. Yes computer recognizes the card just fine. I tried formating the card but don't work. There are times when card is being recognized but not for too long. And that happens to recovery mode. Can u give me steps or link to flash rom via internal sd?

Ask someone on the u8800 forum. I have a u8800pro sorry. I'm assuming that you have to move the zip into your internal memory, then install twrp 2.5.0.0 and choose install zip from internal memory.

yeah, the thing is that i cannot use my internal memory. when i try to download the rom from my phone it asks for sd and when i try to move rom from sd to internal sd it says error. i also tried to make my internal sd card "external sd card" but when i try to safe the system/etc file it says it can't be saved
Why don't you download the ROM to your computer and move it to your internal SD card with a USB cable?

I realised it is my new sd card. Its micro sd too but a little different in shape. So I just used a tape to get it well attached to the port. Now everything works good

[Q] Rooting without internal SD

Hi,
I got a Galaxy Y from a friend and I was trying to MOD it. I discovered that the internal SD is not available... and no way to get it back. I tried to wipe data, hard reset, stock firmware upload with ODIN but no way to get the internal SD back. I tried ADB in order to try to push the ZIP files in a ROM folder but of course no permissions as it's not rooted.
So, no way to root my mobile without copying the files to the SD?
Thanks in advance
Joe
I dont know what you mean by internal sd - galaxy y 5360/6102 doesnt have internal sd - it uses a mico sd card to which you will find the slot if you take the cover off and look on the right hand side of the phone
place any files you want on the sd card either via card reader or usb cable
please note that questions should be asked in the question and answer section and NOT the general section

Thanks Marcus,
I did not know the mobile had no internal SD.
That's the kind of information that saves a lots of time and work!
Thanks again.

Ok,
I tried to use a Miscro SD on the GT-S5360 but there was no way to have it acccepted by the phone.
I formatted the Micro SD (Sandisk 2G) in many ways (full formatting) and it was mounted OK with all my other phones (Galaxy S, LG L5II, Huawei) but not for the Galaxy Y. I tried to format the card with the other Samsung too but it did not work..
I've read a lot around about the "blank SD" issue on many mobiles and tried some of the suggested tricks but with no luck.
So, assuming there is no way to have a MicroSD installed on the phone, I resume the original question:
- Is there any way to root the GT-S5630 without an SD card?
Thanks in advance
Joe
well unless your sd card slot is damaged there should be no reason why it shouldnt work
the sd card needs to be formatted in fat32
there best way to do it is to inset your sd card into your phone
goto phone settings
storage
unmount sd card (sd must be unmounted before you can format it)
format sd card
you can also format it via your pc using a card reader as long as its fat32 but its best to format it using the phone or format it again using the phone as sometimes cwm may have problems mounting the sd card if you use something else to format it
You might find universal root tools via google but the quickest most simple way is just to use a root zip file and flash it in recovery or cwm

Thanks Marcus, your replies are very quick .
I tried formatting the SD card FAT32 with different Allocation unit sizes, always full formatting, never quick.
The SD card is recognized as BLANK SD CARD (or unsupported filesystem) when inserted with the phone ON. The same occurs when I switch ON the phone with the SD card alredy inserted. The card is never mounted
The internal formatting functionality of the phone seems to be not working at all. The function FORMAT SD CARD is enabled but when launched it lasts just few seconds and nothing happens (the card is not mounted neither automatically nor by hand).
There could be some compatibility issues between the card and the phone and it could be worth to buy another SD to test the phone card reader again, but I'm not confident it will work.

Baseband: S5360XXMC2
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7

allocation unit size is I think 16 kilobytes but just select default - quick format is fine if the card is not damaged
you can try using mini tool to delete the partition on the sd card and create a new one and format it to fat32
you can then try reformatting it on your phone after
Mini Tool Download

Thanks for your help Marcus,
I tried MiniTool, with both FAT and FAT32 (the card is a 2GB card) but the result is still the same: BLANK SD CARD.
I will try to buy a new one tomorrow and see if it makes any difference...

Ok I got a new MicroSD today and everything seems to work fine.
Thanks again Marcus.
