Hey guys,
I recently bought this phone second hand and started having issues. First of all I was getting the infamous 'moisture in charger port' problem which I managed to solve by cleaning the port a bit, spraying a bit of WD40 in it and putting the charger cable in with the smooth side pointing upwards (still displays error with the joined side pointing upwards).
Ok so now I can at least use the phone right? Well now I want to bootloader unlock it to root it, the problem is now whenever I connect to my laptop (Windows 10 x64) it just charges the phone and I get a popup saying 'slowly charging device, unplug to save power' but no option to change to MTP mode on drop down menu.
Anyone know how to sort this problematic device out?
Things I have tried:
Two different USB C cables, both operate fine in terms of charging multiple devices but both only work with the smooth side of the connector facing upwards
Reinstalling LG Drivers (4.2.0) from their website, cleaned installation RevoUninstaller.
Restarting the phone (initially I had tried the force stop fix on the LG app).
Disabling the moisture detector through the *#546368#*870# command (didn't work at all).
Disabling USB selective power settings through Windows power settings.
Connecting with and without USB Debugging enabled.
The fix mentioned here, exactly as its written for issues involving device descriptor failed messages, followed by a PC restart.
Tried sfc /scannow
Uninstalled drivers through device manager, restart PC and let Windows install.
Forcefully tried to use LG Drivers through manually setting it in 'Have Disk', tried all options available.
Edit:
Just found the option for forcing MTP mode on USB connection through developer options, doesn't change anything, still device descriptor failed code 43.
Edit 2:
I just noticed my cables are not certified for USB 3.0, can anyone please confirm that 3.0 is required to connect to a laptop/PC? I have ordered another cable anyway to try it but clarification before hand would be nice.

I have a strange reoccuring problem with connecting my Topaz to my pc. I'm running Windows 7 64-bit and have WM6.5 on the phone.
The thing is, that I can have the phone connect to the computer for weeks several times daily always using the same USB-port, but suddenly I get 'USB Device Not Recognized'. Then I can change to a different port and it works again for a few days. Unfortunately it stops working on the next port aswell after a few days, and then it kind of decides, that it's generally unrecognizable.
I have tried almost every thing. From softresetting the phone, rebooting the pc, unplugging the pc, uninstalling and reinstalling Windows Mobile Device Center, updating USB drivers on the system, changing the cable - you name it.
All my other devices work just fine on the USB-ports.
It's as if det driver for the Topaz just gets corrupt. Then again I have actually experienced, that it just works again after some time, with no obvious reason.
I'm really starting to get desperate here. Is there any way of getting hold of a driver which can be used in this situation? Reinstalling the device Center does not work at all.
I would be very greatful if anyone could help me find a solution for this very annoying problem.
I don't know how this works in the "Windows Seven"..
But with ActiveSync in Xp i excluded the partnership and everything worked again.
I think that you have to exclude the device in Windows Mobile Device Center.
Restart your computer and try again.
Best regards!
Eduardo
One thing I had with XP was when the 'Enable faster data synchronization' in 'USB to PC' settings in Connections was checked I has a similar problem.
I unchecked it and it was fine since.
It might not help at all, but it solved the USB connection problem for me.
Well minded Steeve24!!!
Thanks for your replys.
I tried deactivation 'Enable faster data synchronization', but that did'nt change anything.
The I uninstalled the driver in Device Manager and exclude the device in Windows Mobile Device Center. After that I rebooted, mouthed the phone and waited for the driver installation but I still end up with USB Device Not Recognized.
Is it possible to force a specific driver on to this device and if so, what specific driver should i tell the system to use?
Tried switching USB port. That gave me connectivity. I reestablished the partnership, started a sync and half way through the sync, i lost connection again.
Tried once again to remove drivers, break partnership, reboot and try a different USB port. Plugged in the phone and got at complete sync. After the sync the connection closed and reopened and now I'm back to USB Device Not Recognized.
Having exactly the same issue with MDA Compact IV (aka HTC Touch Diamond) with Windows 7 (Enterprise) - 64bit!
Also tried nearly everything but still getting the "USB device not recognized" message ...
Device manager shows a "unknown device" (yellow symbol with "!"):
Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)
If tried to update the driver but then Windows 7 says:
The best driver for the following device is already installed:
Unknown Device.
It seems like C:\Windows\inf\oim24.inf is the required inf-file for installing the device. Wonder how I force W7 to use this one ...
Same issue on XP
When trying to sort my brothers TD2 on his laptop
Interesting little detail:
When I move the USB connection to a hub with external power (like the one in my screen), I seem to be able to keep the connection going for far longer then in a USB hub without external powersupply. That is defenitely different from WM6.1, which always ran smoothly on the "powerless" USB hub.
I imagine you've tried the setting which disables charging whilst connected to a PC?
Now it works again!
Yes, tied that - same difference ...
Yesterday i cleaned my computer with ccleaner and malwarebytes antimalware. The latter found and remowed 18 trojans/hijackers.
Today i connected my TD2 to a non-powered USB port and voila, connection and sync works again.
I do hope the connection is stable this time. If it gets corrupted again first thing to try is cleaning, rebooting and retrying. Of course I'll post here if the problem returns and pass on the information about the effectiveness of the above procedure.
same problem
in have a htc raphael for 1.5 years now. i made several installs of roms from your site, with active sync.
now, i have this weird problem. my htc is not recognised anymore. the error message is "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43) ".
I tried this in all usb from my laptop. after that i tried in 3 other machins, with the same result.
my laptop is Sony vaio vgn-ar51m and i am running windows 7. the ROM is EnergyROM_23081_RAPHAEL_29.Oct.2009
till now i had no problem syncing and upgrade-ing my phone with the same configuration.
any ideas, friends ?
thank you
Well, a few days ago my TD2 refused to be recognized on the nonpowered USB again. I ran Ccleaner (removing 8 GB of crap!), rebooted at voila, it connected again.
tried ccleaner, after that reboot comp reboot htc.
other setttings:
does not charge when connected to pc
enable faster data syncronization - disabled
nothing at all..
also, my phone is not connecting correctly with bluetooth also.

Hi
My problem is that when I connect my sm-n900v to my laptop no usb icon showing up in notification bar device only charge.
I removed the driver and install it again not working.
I disable usb debugging not working and enable it not working
anyone know how to fix this problem?
I'm having the same problem. This started only after lollipop update. Device charges, but laptop does not "see" usb connection. Nothing in system tray. Nothing in device manager. Current version Kies just installed, but doesn't see phone when connected. Restarted both laptop and device disconnected and connected.
SM-N900V Android 5.0
Windows 7
Don't have a clue how to fix this. Any ideas? Thanks!
Thought I'd post my update. While my original USB 3 data/charging cord seems to charge flawlessly & quickly when plugged into the correct 12v OE wall charging adaptors, there is apparently a problem with data transfer. I think the cord I'd OK, but its loose when inserted into the port on the device. If I hold it JUST so, it works fine. I suggest patient cord manipulation to determine if this might be the problem for others as well. Might be hardware repair time.

Hi
I found this solution and it's work now
With the device plugged in:
Dial ##366633#(##DMMODE#)
Disable DM Mode
Disable USB Debugging Mode (Menu> Settings> Developer Options)
If you don't see Developer Options, Enable them by going to Menu> Settings> About Device and Tap "Build Number" 7 times. This will enable Developer Options.
Allow Drivers to load completely. This can take up to 5 minutes.
Device should now appear in device manager as Samsung Mobile USB CDC Composite Device
Now..With the phone still plugged in, turn off and turn on (Restart the device )
Again allow the drivers to load.
you will see the usb icon showing up in your device..

i knew i wasnt crazy and i had a usb menu show up on connect...btw a temp fix to not showing up, download more shortcuts, open app click activities -> click settings -> USB computer connection(Settings$UsbSettingsActivity) and select MTP or USB 3.0. You will have to do this everytime you unplug,(or set a shortcut on homescreen to open setting panel)
Just recently i tried to transfer for the first time, some wallpapers to my phone, and when i plug in the usb, the phone starts to charge normally but i cannot figure out why i cant transfer files from pc to phone or vice versa.
When i plug it in, it gives me the option to select what to "Use USB for", but when i select either MTP (file transfers) or PTP (transfer photos or files), nothing happens. I cannot browse the phone to pick anything at all.
When i go to device manager on PC i see under Portable devices the name of my phone (Moto G4 Play) but it has an exclamation point next to it. I have tried to uninstall and re-install or even update the driver but it will remain this way (if i click its propierties it tells me "This Device cannot start. Code 10"
Is there anything else i can do either on my phone or pc to make this work?
Other info:
Already downloaded motorola device manager to see if it would help but nope.
My PC OS is windows xp (yeah, i know... :laugh

That probably explains everything
I don't think there are compatible drivers for Windows XP..
Long term support for WinXP ended three whole years ago. Though what I noticed with CM and Lineage is that the first time the phone is set up, it won't enable MTP even if checked. You have to reboot the phone and then MTP will actually enable properly.
Also, it may happen with 3rd party cables too. I myself faced this issue with Boat Indestructible cable, then I used the original cable that came with phone and successfully done it. But I still can't understand, how that cable can transfer data to/from other phones....
Just another bit of info:
Today while trying to make it work, i updated the driver from the Device Manager again and somehow i could access the phone as intended.
The problem is that after a few seconds, the window closes on its own! Then i have to redo the whole process and It gives me access again but every time, after a few seconds, the browsing window closes on its own!
I have tried with other cables and no dice, tried also rebooting phone and pc and also tried plugging it to all available usb ports. Any other tip or method i can try?
Try another pc to discard things (so you know if it's the pc or the phone)
My PC wont recognize my S7 Edge when I connect via USB. It makes the charging sound but it doesnt show up in MY PC or even device manager.
I have done a fresh install of Windows 10 and fully updated. I did a factory reset of my phone and fully updated it.
I have downloaded and installed the latest USB drivers. I have USB debugging enabled. Its on MTP.
I have tried different cables and different UBS ports.
Any suggestions would be so awesome!
Are you going to use adb command? Have u unlocked the screen and granted authorization? If so, try to revoke and see where it gets.
I had same issue with S6 and it turned out that port was damaged from the start
Connect it via wifi for file transfer if port is damaged...
I had something similar the other day with mine. This might work, and if it doesn't at least u tried. Grab a toothbrush and hold phone upright, port facing downward. Give it a quick couple of scrapes with said toothbrush bristles and see if any dust dislodges. Then quickly blow any remaining out & try to reconnect to pc with cable. Fingers crossed for you

Go to device manger with phone plugged in click on usb select Samsung driver, properties update, have disks , select manual , select mtp usb , and install. Should Solve your issue
I am currently having a problem with my Oneplus Device so that when I plug it in, I get a "USB Device not recognized" notification, then the device defaults to charging mode. All I am trying to do is connect my computer to my phone's hotspot, but this error is getting in my way. I had this problem a while back, but it fixed itself when I was playing around with the USB devices on my computer, and disabling them. Since the problem has returned I have not been able to replicate the fix. Through experimentation, I have been able to somewhat find the problem. By enabling USB debugging and playing around with the USB Configuration settings, I have found that my computer only shows the error on all of the options except Charging and Audio Source. As soon as I change the mode to MTP or PTP or even MIDI, I get an error. I have tried disabling, removing, uninstalling my USB devices. I have tried multiple configurations of restarting, and trying to update the drivers of the device, and nothing seems to work. Oh, and I have tried three different cables, two of which have worked in the past but the error still remains. I don't have any other computers to test this on, but I am pretty sure it is a problem with the computer, not the device.
