Hi
As anyone used an USB DAC with charging capabilities with an X Compact (Rom Stock, up to date) ?
First I tried the official sony adapter:
https://www.amazon.fr/Sony-Câble-audio-Type-chargement/dp/B078XKQKCV
But couldn't get any sound, so I figured there's no Analog audio output on the USB-C plug.
Then I went for a USB DAC, like this one:
https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B07KMRJ26T/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=A30CCXXWDZ8NHQ&psc=1
It work, I have sound coming out of it, but as soon as I plug it for charge, I lose the sound and only have power going through the phone
Maybe it's a software issue, maybe with a custom Rom we can have both, or is it impossible for the X compact to have both charging and USB audio ?
Thanks

Heads up to all the audio guys out there. Listening to music as I type through my USB DAC > tube amp setup with no special setup. Just USB OTG cable to DAC.
USB Audio Out FTMFW!!!!!
(I'm on AT&T model running ARHD 9.1, not that it matters, I'm sure this feature is universal)
USB OTG to DAC? Do you have an link or pic to such cable?

Just a regular USB OTG connected through the USB cable that comes with the DAC
I have my HTC one with headphone jack to rca cables going into my tube preamp the foreplay. Then from the foreplay to my Dynaco ST70.
YouTube videos sound like garbage bags flapping in the wind.
The tube audio only people would smash my face in if they heard what YouTube sounded like on tubes. Not a good mix at all...

Yep, just a run of the mill standard usb OTG cable and then plug the usb cable from your DAC into it and your good. You'll get the headphone symbology in the status bar and the beats logo although beats appears to be bypassed (which is good) utilizing usb audio out.

Is that version 1.29? I have a T-mobile HTC One with 1.27 and USB DAC wouldn't work with FiiO E7 or JH-3a.
4.3 Update broke the USB audio out session disconnect
I've got the Sprint variant. Loaded the OTA update to 4.3 and now my USB audio gets hung when I disconnect my OTG cable. If I try to plug it in and reconnect later, my handset locks up tighter than Fort Knox. I've tried a factory reset, took a trip to the Sprint repair center (where no one even knew the audio out function existed ) so I'm stuck rebooting my phone between every listening session. Complete PITA. Specifically purchased this phone to use with my Fiio Andes, and everything was great until 4.3.
Does this significantly effect battery life?
The Nexus 5X's USB Type-C port can both input and output audio, however mine needed some setting up before it would work.
I plugged in a Blue Yeti microphone into the Nexus 5X using both the USB Mini-B to USB Type A cable (comes with the Yeti), and the USB-A female to USB-C male adapter from Google. The Yeti powered on instantly, it's red light turned on, and I could hear myself through its no latency monitoring via headphones (Blue Yeti has a 3.5mm headphone output), however the 5X would not recognize the Yeti as either an audio input nor as an audio output device.
I went into Developer Options, scrolled down to "Select USB Configuration" and changed the radio button selection to "Audio Source". I scrolled down even farther to the Media section, and there I disabled "Disable USB Audio Routing" (you might say that I enabled USB audio routing). There was no immediate effect, so I unplugged the Yeti, plugged it back in, et voila! The phone recognized the Yeti as both a microphone AND an audio playback device simultaneously.
I don't know for sure which of those two settings truly made a difference, as now that I've got USB audio to work, neither of those settings seems to make a difference anymore -- it seems as though my Yeti is permanently approved for USB audio in my 5X!
The USB audio works for listening to Google Music, and even for regular voice phone calls.
Do you have a USB microhone/headset/headphones/DAC? Get a good USB-A female to USB-C male adapter and you'll be quite pleased! And hopefully you'll be luckier than I was and it'll just work when you plug it in, but if not then toggle those USB audio Developer Options as described above.
Finally someone has posted on audio out and in via USB c! Thanks!
Just plugged the 5X into a Focusrite Scarlett 18i20. The phone recognizes the first two input channels and can record in mono or stereo (input 1 as left track and input 2 as right track).
Also it does seem as though you must keep the "Disable USB audio routing" off for it to work.
Sweet, guess I won't need the SoundAbout app anymore.
This is really nice. Able to route usb audio to a Cambridge Audio DacMagic. Much better than the on-board dac, and no longer tied to a specific app.
decided to add this on my index
[INDEX] LG NEXUS 5X Resources Compilation Roll-Up
Isn't this just a USB sound card over OTG? I plugged in a Logitech sound card with line out and mic in and it worked without any tweaks.
My 6th gen iPod nano plays usb audio perfectly fine on my crappy pioneer deh-3300ub headunit, but no matter what settings or cables I try the stereo says "N/A USB" with my N5X plugged in.
Anyone get the audio-in-via-usb to work with the built-in Google camera/camcorder app?
I am using Nexus 6P
The audio-in DOES work with this video app: https://goo.gl/Dtu14
But with the built-in camcorder, it only records audio from the phone's mic, not the usb mic.

I would think google designed it to only use built in microphone. It would take some mods or tinkering to get it to do otherwise.

Can you test and report which apps can record audio with the blue yeti? free and/or paid, if you have the time to test of course.

That's because you most likely did just get a basic 3.5mm to USB-C adapter with no active circuit. I'm fairly certain that Nexus 5X do not support analog passthrough over USB-C, which means you will need something with active circuitry.

You need a portable DAC (get a cheap one like Fiio A1 for 25usd). Nexus 5X USB-C is not USB3/3.1 interface, so it won't work.
I have a Fiio E17K and I cannot get the device to work via USB OTG. I tried two different cables to no avail. When plugged, it lists the generic USB options, i.e. Power Supply. I confirmed the DAC works on my old LG G3.
Has anyone gotten a portable DAC to work on their phone through USB OTG?
Just select Midi device when prompted then you're good to go.
I'm using Soundblaster E3.
When I select Midi device, it immediately switches back to Power Supply. I tried 3 different cables from different brands to no avail. I can confirm the amp/dac works on the LG G4 with no issues.
I have the Canadian LG G6 and can confirm USB OTG works in general, when I used an adaptor to use a mouse.
Has anyone figured out a solution? I need to select MIDI for Fiio Q1 to be recognized and then it switches back to Power Supply.

I managed to get my hand on another USB-C phone (Asus ZenFone3) to rule out a cable issue. DAC worked with no issues, so it is definitely a G6 issue. I'm hoping this gets patched or fixed in a future custom rom.
My Zuperdac works fine.
Hei.. just in case you are still checking around. It may take awhile for the LG G6 to register the dac. Therefore, once you plug in. let the song play. and probably wait for up to 30sec or so. O and another thing. You may want to try and select File Transfer. It worked for me also. They did mention for older device.. you can select MTP instead.

Yes i use lg g5 hifi plus dac/amp modul working well!
Two years later my LG G6 does exactly this...plug in my ifi DSD black label and it pops up to change connection type but it FORCES power supply no matter what you pic. And it drains the hell out of the battery. ANYONE figure this out. I see numerous post on this across LG v30 and the like do it too.
I used a Fiio Q1 (amp & DAC) with my G6. This DAC has a charge/no charge button, setting this to off prevents draining the G6's battery. This week I upgraded to a Fiio Q1 MkII, and this newer model doesn't have the charge/no charge button, and it drains my G6's battery very quickly charging its own battery. I modded a micro USB cable after insctructions online (I can't post links to external sites, but search for "Things that you want to know about FiiO Flagship DAC & Amp Q5", scroll to the bottom of the article), I opened the micro USB connector and soldered pin 4 and 5 together. I use this cable and a regular USB-C OTG adaper, and the DAC no longer drains the G6 battery. The "Power supply" mode still appears active on the G6, but no charge is transfered to the Q1 MkII, verified because its charge LED remains off and because the G6's battery discharges at the usual rate. I don't need to change the USB mode to anything else, just leave it on "Power supply". I then spliced the OTG adapter directly to a micro USB cable, shorting pins 4&5 on the micro USB side, this way I have a short, custom cable to connect G6 & Q1 MkII.
Then I found that Fiio offers a USB-C OTG to micro USB cable for their DACs, and according to them it's built with charge disabled. I purchased one from Amazon (can't post link, search for "Fiio CL06 Type C to Micro USB OTG Cable for Fiio Q1 Mark II Q5 M7 etc"), but I'm still waiting for delivery.
Hope this helps
thanks
Hi guys,
I intend to use an old s7 edge in car with a USB DAC (Mini USB DAC signstek audio -- PCM2704). I plug into the car.
Since this DAC requires a power source from the phone, it works and audio comes out, but now I have no way to charge the phone.
I am so confused with all these issues with cables and hubs. I saw Nexus 7 had a special timur usb host kernel rom or something...
What's the bottom line... how can I power the phone and the DAC at the same time and have the DAC plugged to the phone?
Are there roms I can use or special modifications whatever, what cable/hub? Please let me know.
I'm ready to root this phone and install a custom rom, but want to use it for this purpose
Instead just buy a cheap fast wireless charger.

It's either USB-OTG or charging, you can't have both as hardware limitation (and i don't think any phone has that capability), unless you wireless charge
then how do those guys with the nexus 7 charge and have a dac at the same time with a Y cable?
i have nexus 7 with Y cable, but it works on some rons with enabled charging. thats why usb cable had many pins
Hey !
The phone randomly stopped recognizing my USB-C earphones, as well as the ones plugged with the 3.5mm to USB-C adapter.
I already did a full wipe, nothing changed, as well as switching select USB configuration to audio source
The earphones are xiaomi USB-C active noise canceling, and no power is sent to them, so they are fully not detected
What's weird is that the phone is still charging !
Phone is on RR 5.8.5, 7.1.2
Any idea ?
Thanks a lot !
Can you connect phone to computer?
Try your USB-C adapter in another phone, or try another USB-C adapter
