Introduction
Hi, I was thinking about rooting my S8 after seeing a lot of videos on YouTube and forum posts about the benefits of it and using Magisk Modules, but I'm wondering, is it possible to do it without tripping Knox? I'm a heavy user of the Secure Folder, Galaxy Store, Samsung Cloud, and S-Health app and I don't want to lose that functionality since I heard that after tripping Knox those apps become useless since they won't start at all or give an error that "secure space/ Knox cannot be initialized".
Less Important / Further Information
On Short: I want to know if:
Rooting without tripping Knox works.
If not, is there any way to keep the functionality of S-Health, Samsung Cloud, Secure Folder, Galaxy Store
Are there any workaround for running (for example) Magisk Modules/root apps without the need of root
If all of the above are negative, are there any other apps that keep the same functionality as the ones listed above (not Magisk, the Samsung ones)
Long Explanation:
I would use any other Health App, but S-Health has always kept all my devices up-to-date between one and another without any headache, Secure Folder is the only "secure" workspace app I trust since it has hardware-level security on the S8 because of that Knox thing (or so I heard). I know that they aren't the only ones with the same functionality, but they have official certifications and that matters in my opinion. I'm open to more suggestions.
The reason I want to root my phone is that I like to customize my phone a lot, but not as deep as to changing my ROM.
I will answer any other question if it helps, but if there is a middle ground that lets me use root apps like Magisk and not losing Knox functionality, I'm 100% all ears.
The short answer is no. Also if you try to root anyway make sure of your exact model and current firmware of your phone. Any US S8 with Snapdragon and bootloader above 5 cannot be rooted.

I do know what version my S8 (G950F Exynos) is and the firmware (G950FXXS4DSC2/G950FOXM4DSBA/G950FXXU4DSBA)

1. Yes you can root your phone
2. Modifying your phone will trip your knox.ie:custom recovery,root,kernels,custom ROMs etc.There is no fix for a tripped Knox.
3. You can not root/modify your phone without tripping Knox.
4. With a tripped Knox you will lose Samsung pay,secure folder S health and other Knox related apps and services.
Note:There is a workaround to get S health running on tripped Knox.
As for alternatives I don't really know as I don't use any of these applications.
5. Things like Galaxy store and cloud storage will still work.
6. You may lose OTA updates and will have to do them manually as they come out.

Thanks for the response, this answer is good enough for me to stop from rooting, since I use those apps a bit too much on a daily basis. I will close this thread now since its no good to keep it open for no reason.

I have recently acquired SGS4 in place of my SGS3. I have used to change a rom every week, but now all I would like is a stable, rooted and .
I just discovered all the fuss about Knox and I am even more dissapointed. I really didn't want to buy another Samsung device (Exynos resources, SDS and their horrible overlay) but the offer on it was just insanely good compared to everything else to I took it.
Anyway, below are my current bootloader/firmware information:

As you can see it is 4.3 from T-Mobile from november.
Now would you be so kind and tell me:
Can I root and modify my rom and bootloader on any custom without loosing my warranty?
If not, can I root and change the rom to the google edition?
If nope again, hopefuly I can at least use root with one of the latest Samsung roms? (without T-Mobile bloatware)
You live in the EU. That means that even if Samsung doesn't want to fix your device because you tripped Knox (unlikely that they won't fix it), the store you bought it from still has to fix it even with Knox tripped. That is consumer law which should also apply in Poland.
You can only root without tripping Knox.
You can not flash a recovery without tripping Knox, thus you cannot flash custom roms without tripping it.
So just root and flash the rom you want. You can even skip the part of rooting and just flash a custom recovery.
There are no downsides if you tripped Knox.

Hi,
I have already triggered the knox unfortunately on my S5 SM-G900F.
Now I have to questions:
1. With triggered knox, I hope it is only about the guaranty right? , all the functionalities of the phone (including future OTAs) will work as for a normal not triggered knox right?
2. Now is there a way to root it, I tried like 2 methods, It seems to me it is unrootable at the moment ?

Hello, maybe its just me, but Im not fully clear about rooting my phone. The thing is that I wouldnt loose my warranty, but Id use my loved root required features, such as viperaudio mod, etc.
So there are some methods already, but I dont know, if there any low effort root, or anything similar exist which not triggers knox counter If this method isnt exists, then is it possible to reset the counter after Ive flashed a custom rom / root?
Flashing an original firmware update with Odin will trigger the counter?

Root will trigger Knox. Some custom ROMs had Knox status set as 0x0 but it still has triggered the Knox fuse in reality. Triggering Knox will make you loose Samsung Pay for lifetime. But if you don't care about your warranty or Samsung pay then you could go ahead. There are thread showing you how to do so.
I haven't touched my S5 (G900F) since I rooted it 3.5 years ago. At the time I was careful to retain KNOX.
Now I'm looking to upgrade - found a thread allowing me to put Android 5.0 on it pretty easily but it that the latest I can safely use?
Also, I assume that anything other than flashing a Stock Rom will result in the loss of KNOX - is that something I should worry about given that the warranty on the phone is long expired? Do any apps check KNOX and refuse to run if broken (e.g. Paypal and other Banking apps)?
If I should retain KNOX, what ROM should I be flashing?
If KNOX doesn't matter any more, then is there a debloated Stock ROM available for the S5?

If you are already rooted, a custom OS shouldn't affect it, if the OS wants you to update SU after installation, you may want to look at magisk when you run the OS. Do a nandroid back up before you do this.

The link is clearly out of date though as the latter is now at Android 6.01, but more importantly, the latter states that Installation is via CMW/TWRP recovery and KNOX is triggered.
Presumably I need to flash the new ROM from within the current ROM - what's the best software for that - I found Flashfire, but it was a post dated 2015.

I want to root or install custom rom+kernel without losing samsung pass and private folder.
Is there any way to use Samsung Pass and Secure Folder on root?
I know all other apps are working with root. Magisk Knox Faker Isn't working for only these apps.
I don't think there is any custom rom available with samsung pass but I'm not sure about private folder and besides that knox faker thing 0×0 in magisk is just to keep your heart in real life knox is already 0×1 which means no secure folder no samsung pay no samsung pass and no samsung health even if you flash stock firmware.

your last sentence is wrong. you can use all apps include samsung health except samsung pass, pay, secure folder.

I meant after flashing stock firmware without root even Samsung Health won't work neither would samsung pay or samsung pass and nor would secure folder to make the samsung health work on stock firmware after tripping knox you need to be rooted.
