Hi, I'm currently on HavocOS 2.4 PQ2A.190405.003, Magisk 18.1 and call volume is always on maximum. If I try to lower it with the volume buttons, the slider position changes accordingly, but not the actual volume. Have you already encountered this, or do you possibly know the fix? Thank you!
Is a know bug, in all roms i guess? (i didnt try on RR) you have to wait untill devs can solve it

I've been noticing the following strange behavior:
Sometimes the in-call volume is just too loud. Even on the minimum volume setting someone standing a couple of meters away from you will still perfectly hear the conversation. This only happens when receiving a call, never (as far as I can tell) when making one.
If during the call I switch on and then off the speaker, then the volume goes back to what it should be.
Has anyone noticed this before? Workarounds?
Yes, I've noticed this.
Always does it when it has been connected to a headset.
I seem to remember it went away when I installed the Modoco rom...
Mine still does it with the Modaco rom
@squirreleater: Thanks for your reply. It is just as you say
@both: Do you know if the latest HTC firmware fixes this issue? I know, I know, but I can't find the time these days to upgrade and find for myself
I`m on the latest MCR and it still does it. Its really P*****G me off now. I hate to take a call because of it.. Surely more people than us 3 are seeing this?
Yup, same thing for me although I've never noticed a difference between receiving and making calls (will watch out for that now). Quietest setting is still ridiculously loud. I'm on MCR 2.6 but have noticed on other roms as well.
I've noticed this too, but seems as though when I press volume up, it starts working again and allows me to lower the volume.
I can confirm that your workaround is just fine. Thanks.
So if i press volume up then down it will go quieter?
I will try this next call i get...
I am getting this same problem ... thanks for the tip I will try it.
I just noticed this. but after having my hero for like over a month. Could have appeared when i installed like 3 games yesterday but cant see why games would cause that to happen. but yea the workaround of increasing then decreasing the volume works. and it only happens when i receive the call. strange...
I am having problems with the in-call volume of my Nexus 4. Say I have it at 4/5, it will remain at this for a while, however, it does not maintain this setting. When I answer a subsequent phone call, the in-call volume will have reset itself to 2/5. It is quite annoying answering a phone call, not hearing the person on the other side and then having to increase the volume again. I actually returned my 1st Nexus 4, however, this problem is now occurring on my replacement phone as well. Would anyone have any suggestions as to what might be causing this problem before I contact Google again. I have not made any adjustments to the OS of the Nexus 4. Thanks for any help!

I have Volume + installed from Google Play and it increases the volume considerably from the speaker, through bluetooth and headsets. If you try it go to settings/sounds/sound effects and choose Volume + instead of Music Fx. I`am using the paid version and it works great for me.

Thanks for your reply. Actual loudness of the phone is not a problem, when the highest in-call volume setting is maintained. However, the phone will randomly reset itself to the 2/5 setting. Over the weekend, I give the Volume + app a try. It has an individual setting for in-call volume, however, the problem still occurs. Do you think the problem is software related and therefore potentially could be rectified by the next major update to be released? I'am worried that I may have to try and return another phone to Google!
help!

Did you ever find the solution? I just got a Nexus 4 and have the same issue. I've been searching like crazy for a solution!

I forgot to say that even though is the same issue, in my case is the other way around. The volume resets to 5/5 even though I change it to 2/5 during a call. The 2/5 setting seems to last only some time but surely after a few hours, when I make or receive another phone call the volume has gone up to 5/5.
I have the same issue. The volume is always to the max. During the call I lower it, because it is too loud at the maximum, but during the next call, the volume is at maximum again. I tried several applications that adjust in-call volume, but it had no effect.

I believe we might have an application installed that's resetting the volume, would you mind sharing the applications you have via private message and then we can check which we have in common and go from there? If you agree I'll send you mine as well.
After several factory resets I finally found out what was the problem. Automatic Call Recorder has an option named Maximize recording volume (or something like that). When I turned off this, the problem was solved.
While I am glad and thankful to see all those rom & kernel progresses are being made, noticed is that many roms still suffer broken in-call volume adjustments.
For those who work in rather quiet environment, I feel your pain. It sucks when all the nearby co-workers get to listen to your conversation.
Here, I suggest we make list of roms that do have working in-call adjustment. Please let us know if the rom you are on has it broken or functional.
I will start: Omni_20170618 has functional in-call volume adjustment.
AICP 12.1 (20170620) in-call volume adjustment works.
All customized-stock roms - in-call volume adjustment working in my case.
Haha just noticed its not working for me in omni latest(1806) build.

Got it working.
During a call, activate and deactivate the speakerphone, and voilla, from then on the volume control works. Even after I hang up, it keeps working properly ob all the subsequent calls, until I reboot.
Hi there,
I have a little problem, during a call set my incoming call volume to minimum, but is still very loud, I can hear the other person with my phone far from me (I don't have hands-free mode on). Is there any solution? Someone have this problem too?
I know that I can change settings in /etc/mixer_paths.xml in some custom rom, but I don't know how to fix this with official rom.
EDIT: I have nougat 7.1.2, I didn't install oreo update
Thanks!
sorry, up.
does anyone have this "problem"?
Yes, me.
Yes same
Usually with other phones there is the opposite problem haha
I can confirm this issue.
Does anyone know if it is fixed in last oreo?
You can add more volume steps for audio and calls via Xposed (Gravitybox), Magisk (https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/module-volume-steps-increase-magisk-v10-t3554996) or direct modification of build.prop (not recommended). It should fix your issue.
same problem with oreo update
My Xiaomi A1 's incoming call volume is too small. In the office, it's ok to hear. In the crowd place, can not hear clealy.
same problem in 2020
no solution
Hello,
My A1 have low sound volume during voice call after may patch i think ,volume in very low ,does anyone know a fix for this problem?
Thx,
Try this,
1. Once you're in a phone call, turn loudspeaker on.
2. Reduce the volume to bare minimum.
3. Switch back to normal mode from loudspeaker.
This helped me when I had a similiar issue.
Thx for reply, i try this but not working ,i think is a hardware problem or if anyone know a software or apps test for call speaker..
Hi,
No, I don't think this is a hardware issue as I have the same issue with my A1 since the july /August patch 2018. Any progress with this since then ?
it works thanks
am facing same issue after oreo update i thought that it might get fix but til now it not fixed
There was a Magisk module for this, somewhere near here.

That's right. It can be found on THEMES, APPS AND MODS.
