Google Pay Issue - Samsung Galaxy S10+ Questions & Answers

I don't even know if it's an issue: when i try to use Google Pay in store (NFC) it returns with an error asking for my finger print(phone already unlocked), resulting in an error as well on the vendor side(machine). I have to put the finger print and google pay app asks to get closer again and after all of this, it works. I know that google pay is supposed to work without asking for finger print, just using the phone unlocked witch i did.
Do u people have to do that or it just works (without the extra authorization)?
PS: I did a deblot, but I already reinstalled all the Samsung pay and pass stuff even guessing that it didn't cause the issue.
Thanks in advance.

did you set it as default? i have a pass which i need to set google pay as default. otherwise i would only use samsung pay.

Yeah, its set as default. When you use google pay, even the phone already unlocked, it asks you to put the fingerprint?

never really use google pay for payment before, only passes. for passes, never request for fingerprint or anything.
i once installed an app somewhere in the internet and many times, it would ask for fingerprint. uninstalled it btw.

Finally, got google wallet to install on the SGS3 (UK)

WARNING: THIS METHOD DOES NOT WORK ON 4.1 (JELLYBEAN)
Ok, so first things first! I haven't tried using it to make purchases yet nor have I tried adding or topping up cards (I've only activated the prepaid google card and got the $10)
After 2 weeks of trying various methods and reading through various xda forums/posts etc and google I finally got it.
You'll need;
The latest firmware on SGS3 (can't confirm it will work on previous firmware)
A rooted device
market enabler
and finally the modaco patched google wallet
If you've never had google wallet on your phone you can skip steps 1-2
1. force close google wallet and clear the cache/data.
2. uninstall google wallet and delete any of it's files you might have saved.
3. backup your build.prop file from the system folder and move the original somewhere else.
4. open your build.prop file and look for the lines that says ro.product.model, ro.product.brand, and ro.product.device.
5. you want all 3 to read htc_jewel like so
Code:
ro.product.model=htc_jewel
ro.product.brand=htc_jewel
ro.product.name=m0xx
ro.product.device=htc_jewel
6. move your edited build prop file back to the system folder.
7. put your google wallet apk in the system/app folder using your chosen method.
8. Do Not open google wallet yet (This is where I was going wrong for most of it)
9. restart device.
10. switch NFC on if it isn't on.
11. open google wallet and follow on screen instructions.
options 12 - 14 might not be necessary but I'm putting them just in case
12. open market enabler and set it to t mobile us.
13. open the play store and find google wallet and uncheck automatic update.
14. you can now reset your google play back to UK.
source(s) various XDA posts (Mainly HTC forum) and Modaco for the patched apk
Steps 12 - 14 won't be necessary for sure.
Once you have got it working have you tried changing your build.prop back to see if it still works? Long term implications of having your phone think its something else could break other apps.
Plus on a side note, I thought Market Enabler didn't work with the new market versions?
what is the benefit of having google wallet in the UK? are we able to use it at all and for what?
I can confirm that Wallet now works in LFB without any of the hacks in the OP
Just have LFB rom installed and push the modified Wallet file in the OP to system, reboot and it works.
NFC.apk was upgraded in LFB this must have been included in the changes.
that's good but tell me... who has seen an NFC enabled payment system anywhere in England?!!? I know McDonalds have it, will this Google wallet work with that?! I don't want to bust out my phone to pay and end up looking like a tit! haha

Loads of shops
All McDonalds have them, All Greggs (bakery) have them, Most Pret coffee shops have them now and there are lots more too.
Visa and Samsung are pushing NFC payments for the Olympics so expect loads more to pop up this summer! (along with Visa apps).

Quite a few places in London..
I have an AMEX and VISA with contactless but never managed to get it working.. and yes I feel like a tit for trying each time
:crying:
EDIT:
I managed to get google wallet installed as per Lenny UK's instructions with the new firmware.. I just can't add the google prepay card.
And still unsure whether we can use Google Wallet rather than our normal contactless cards in the UK
sweet i did not know about greggs/subway. That's pretty sweet. I really REALLY want to try this. Anyone actually tried it out and about yet?

Look for Modaco's forum post with this app, he details how to get money loaded onto the app.

You need to push this file to /system/app it will not install like a regular app.... I said this as did the OP... please read
apologies. Excitement got the better of me. Thanks
It seems that you need to make the changes to the build.prop file to add your google prepay card and after that registers, you can resotre your original file.
unfortunately, to add more credit, you need to pay over the odds to use an american credit card.
well hopefully we're all set for when it launches! in the meantime I think my next meal will be on Google thanks for the great thread and info
I got angry with it not working so removed it
Hey Guys, this is great. Quick warning though there is a known issue that if you switch rom, wipe you device or do anything like that without going into wallet first and using the reset wallet option inside google wallet , it can break the nfc secure element in your phone and you will not be able to use google wallet ever again on that phone.
This happened to quite a few people when I wrote a similar thread to this about 3 weeks ago now and some people had to RMA their phone or claim on insurance. I mean it even stopped working on my phone when I tried to remove it properly using the reset wallet option. So i deleted the guide and had the thread closed just incase.
I am not saying that this will happen to you or anything like that, just thought I would warn people as I'm sure as Lenny said there will be alot of english wallet apps coming out this summer for the the Olympics so it might be worth waiting untill then. Not trying to scare people or anything well done to the OP great post just don't want people breaking their new phones.

Likewise, but it does work - you just have to change ro.product.device and ro.product.model in build.prop to "htc_jewel", then force stop the app and clear data in "manage apps", then reboot.

It took me a while too because I had installed the wallet without chaning the build.prop but this is what I did.
in google wallet >settings > reset wallet
delete apk from system/app
restarted the device
backed up and changed the build.prop
placed apk back into system/app
restarted the device
started google wallet
added card.. (it takes about 2-3 mins)
exited wallet
restored original build.prop.
seems like a hassle but I suppose there's a free mcdonald's meal for your hard work

[FIX] Google Wallet Outside US

I've been searching for a way to get Google Wallet working on my 7 here in Australia and eventually came across a couple articles that did the trick for me, so I thought I'd share.
Firstly, you need to be rooted and you'll want the patched Wallet.apk from here, which was linked from this XDA thread. Then I used these instructions but with a slight modification. This is the procedure:
Take a backup of Wallet.apk, just in case. Use your favourite file manipukation app, such as Root Explorer, to copy Wallet.apk from /system/app to somewhere safe - /sdcard, for example.
Go into Settings --> Apps, find Wallet, clear cache, clear data and force stop. I like to be sure
Open up Titanium Backup, browse for Wallet, clear data, then uninstall.
Push the patched Wallet.apk you downloaded into /system/app. DO NOT try to install it, as it will fail.
Set permissions on this file to rw-r--r--
Reboot
Go back to Titanium Backup and defrost Wallet.
Open Wallet, register, claim $10, win.
Before anybody comments about unnecessary steps, I'm sure some of them are but this is what I did and it worked for me. I'm not sure if it is necessary but I already had a card registered in my Wallet account with a US address. That is a regular Aussie Visa card where I just set the address to be some random address in The Bronx (I also have a Google Voice number for the same area). I had done this to purchase a magazine from the Play store (over VPN).
Once you are set up, you will need to add a payment card - I added a Google Payment Card - then you will get a confirmation email and will have a Nexus 7 screen looking like the attached, with $10 courtesy of Google.
While researching this, I found several examples of people in Australia successfully using Nexus phones to pay for goods where Pay Pass / Pay Wave is used but I haven't tried it myself yet. Come on, it's 10pm Saturday night!
Can you use this at a merchant when your tablet is not connected to the internet?

Think about it: You're credit card doesn't have 3G
I don't know all the technical details of how it works but I presume it is the same as a credit card process - i.e. the merchant's credit card machine verifies the card, then checks in with the bank. The analogy here would be the merchant's machine verifies the account by interrogating the NFC chip, the talks to Google to confirm payment is good.
did u get the 25$ credit as well?
You get $10
Does this work in the UK? I assume by Lennyuk's response that it does?
Thanks

In Wallett or just in the Play Store? They are 2 different things.
Google have clarified the no internet issue (I dont have the link on me, I think it was in their blog):
To make a payment, you DO NOT need an internet connection
To change between cards on the device, you DO need an internet connection.
To top up, you DO need an internet connection (I would imagine for accurate balance, you would as well)
So, you can use a Nexus 7 to pay without any issues and no internet connection

Very nice post! I just enabled the modaco modified wallet on my Galaxy Nexus and will test it tomorrow in MacDonald (italy). This has already been reported as working in a local blog @ android.hdblog.it
Thanx
(At the moment it's impossible to topup the Google Virtual Card from Italy)
I have seen people able to use the $10 on wallet in Australia but I don't know of anyone who has been able to apply money onto their own cards on the Wallet.
Has anyone been able to do this successfully yet?

If those system apps are on your device you should be able to access them by unfreezing them with titanium backup. Once unfrozen they will be visible, unfortunately with the latest updates Google wallet no longer works for me. (Still had $1.67 left on it too )

Given that Google has stopped giving out prepaid credit and AFAIK you can only add US credit and debit cards I'm not sure how useful this will be.

Ok so I defrosted all locked Google apps like books and wallet. All of them are useless as they're empty and none of those services work abroad. The free books seem preloaded tho. I'll set up a US proxy and clear the data later, see how it goes. Google wallet wouldn't even open without updating bwt so I sideloaded the newest version but as expected, it simply opens and says it's not available in my country.
Well through a proxy I was able to access all the content from the play store I didn't have access to before. But Google wallet still says instantly that it's not enabled for my device or carrier. But I really don't need it so I'm not going to bother changing my locale, spoofing my carrier and running a proxy. I'll probably go ahead and freeze all those apps again except for books.
If anyone else feels inclined to pursue this, feel free.
Btw there's a guide here

Can you use the in-display fingerprint reader for banking apps?

So I know you need to use the Ambient Display / wake on tap to use the fingerprint reader.
But can you use it for regular fingerprint apps, like a banking app?
I tried finding information about this in Youtube comments and whatnot, but no one replied.
Thanks!
The banking app I use along with other apps that use fingerprint work fine with a fingerprint.
It works with my 2 banking apps.
Also works with other, non banking apps...
Works for me as well, ABN Amro in the Netherlands.
Yes. Works just fine using Numbrs.
It works exactly the same as every other fingerprint reader, so yes.
I can relate. With my Samsung Galaxy S7 my Wells Fargo app would allow me fingerprint to sign in option, not anymore on the OP6T. But on the Cash app, to deposit money it presents the option for fingerprint yet oddly enough only receiving - not when sending money
Yes, works fine
Works with my PNC, Paypal and also MyBuick app
That is very weird. Maybe the app is too old? Or OnePlus has to fix the firmware?
Working on all four of my bank apps
So it was actually well hidden in the settings but I got it to work lol. Thanks for the doubt guys.
Working well with all my bank apps (CapitalOne, BoA, etc)

Works with Barclays in the UK also(Banking and PingIt).
Works fine with USAA, CapitalOne, KeePass, Authy and everything else I've used it for.
Works with Chase, JP Morgan, Citi, American Express, discover, and google pay.
. Yes, you can use fingerprint reader for logging in to your online banking account. Have it set up before you download a banking app, once you go through initial login /password /secret words, etc, a pop up window will ask you if you want to use fingerprint for future logins. Tap yes of course and it should work. Same is for PayPal, ebay for instance
Like everyone else said it works just like any other fingerprint scanner.
PayPal and Bank of America works fine with it.
@Elloco305 the phone settings or the bank app settings?

Google Pay stops working on OnePlus 5 (NOT rooted device)

Hi all!
I'm writing here to see if someone has any idea, it seems I'm not able to understand the reason.
I setup Google Pay on my OnePlus 5 and it was working perfectly, up until some days ago. Now when I put the phone close to the POS, nothing happens, even if I open the Google Pay app before placing the phone near the terminal.
I performed a factory reset of the phone, after that, Google Pay started working again, but then, after a few hours, it just stopped with the same exact behavior, meanwhile I had restored the backup of most of my apps.
I again performed a factory reset, Google Pay started working properly, then slowly started re-installing and re-configuring my apps, constantly testing if Google Pay was working (luckily I found out how to "test" if Google Pay is working without having to buy something*), everything was working properly, but then, apparently without reason, Google Pay stopped working again in the exact same way.
I pinpointed the problem down to Google Pay and not generically to NFC, because Android Beam and other NFC apps are working perfectly. I also tried an app from Visa that emulates a credit card for test purposes (Visa Mobile CDET), this app replaces Google Pay as Tap&Pay provider and when I test the NFC payment with that app set as default, it works, the test card is sent over to the receiving terminal. As soon as I change the default Tap&Pay to Google Pay, nothing happens anymore.
Some additional info: my OnePlus 5 has never been rooted, it is up to date with the latest firmware (OxygenOS 9.0.6). Google Pay is version: 2.90.250604638
Is anyone experiencing the same issue?
thanks a lot!

and now Google Pay is working again.
I guess this means there was a bug introduced on the latest version or something like that, it's difficult to say without a changelog
At least this explains the random behavior, Play Services libraries are probably updated in background automatically.
thanks for the hint! Now I have to make sure Play Services libraries won't update automatically and I probably need to monitor new releases as I don't want to stick with an old version forever.
Opened a ticket on the google issue tracker: https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/135132389 please "star" it and add your comments, we need to understand if this is just a OnePlus issue.

Possible workaround, however not very straightforward and comfortable, but could be useful to troubleshoot:
- Install Visa Mobile CDET app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.visa.app.cdet&hl=en
- set it as default Tap&Pay app
- as "Use default" option, select "Except when another payment app is open"
- open Google Pay app and keep it in foreground
- pay with Google Pay

From what I understand, it emulates different types/technologies of contactless cards, so merchants can be sure their POSs are compatible with that type/technology of cards.
It should be "safe".
I tried the workaround, and I can confirm it works.
Now we just have to organize a meeting in Bologna, the issue seems to be here

Exactly, the app itself is not useful to us, but it lets you change Tap&Pay default to another app that is not Google Pay and this seems to be unlocking Google Pay for some reason.
I'm really starting to think that the issue is only in Bologna

Which Google Play Services and Google Pay version? Thanks
Hello everyone. Finally I found someone else with this problem! Since may/june 2019 I'm having this strange issue of Google Pay not working anymore. I've been in contact with Google and OnePlus, they reflashed OxygenOS but nothing solved the problem. Google Play Services is now updated to the version 19.4.20, but Google Pay and other NFC apps still don't work. The strange thing is that some NFC apps work properly, other do not work at all... Just like Google Pay. In the meantime, did someone found a stable solution? Thank you all.
Hello Frank!
the only workaround is the one described above, unfortunately, no solution is offered, but it seems it's some kind of compatibility issue with other nfc apps.
for example, andreacos92 realized that after a factory reset, Google pay works properly, but the moment he installed Muver (an Italian nfc app to use mobile bus tickets) and after the first reboot, Google pay stops working, even uninstall ing Muver will leave Google pay broken, the only solution is another factory reset.
any chance you're also using that app? Or perhaps another one using nfc?
