Text Alerts - Moto G7 Questions & Answers

Greetings.
It seems that after some time the moto G7 just stops making sounds when I receive text messages. I have notice this problem with two of the phones I've had this also happened with My crappy Samsung J7. My Brother also has the G7 Plus and the G7 and has this same issue. We don't have any apps in common except the Default apps of course.
Edit: All phones/problems above have been happening on Verizon U.S. and We both are using the default text app. And both have used/use the android text web feature.
Any thoughts/suggestions?

Cant Send Txts Using Google Now

Hi all,
Started this thread in the Asus ZenWatch section, but looks like it is more indicative of the S5 as a whole. Whenever I try to use Google Now to send a text message using my voice, it shows up in my conversations as sent, but the recipient never actually receives it. This occurs in the Verizon Messaging App, the default Samsung Messaging App, and Google Hang Outs. When I click on the message history, it looks like the phone is adding the country code of "01" (USA) to the beginning of my texts. I'm in the USA so I'm not sure of this is a problem or not. As of right now, I can't send any texts through Google Now. This is a huge deal breaker for me, as I got the phone specifically for hands-free applications.
I'm working with a Samsung Galaxy S5 running 4.4.4 on the Verizon Network. Any help or advice anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated!

Anyone having any issues with the newest version of Hangouts?

This might not be a Moto X issue, but I was running the same version of the same app on my Nexus 5 with no problem. After updating to the newest version of Hangouts, which I use for SMS, the app runs terribly slow. Typing a message is painfully slow, and often the autocorrect doesn't keep up with my typing and becomes useless. Scrolling through messages is laggy. Sometimes when I first open the app to respond to a message it starts off running fine but then within a few seconds of typing slows down again.
I've tried removing the update, gong back to the version that came preinstalled, clearing data etc. and nothing seems to help. I can of course just use a different app for texting but I'd really like to know what's causing the problem an if anyone else is having it.
I really hope this isn't a problem for all. We are going on a cruise and I am purchasing the wifi package so we can stay in contact with my son and my business. I don't use hangouts for sms exclusively but I do use it for calls and video chats when needed. I'll be sure to check that as soon as my Pure arrives.
For what it's worth the latest hangouts runs like garbage on any device I own: moto x pure, note 5, gs6, g4 etc.

Yep Im having the same issue . I noticed right after migrating my SMS messages over from my Droid Turbo. I thought it had something to do with the migrate app. So i deleted my messages and reuploaded them to the phone with "sms backup and restore" (which always worked and never had issues), but same problem your experiencing.
Janky and horribly slow.
Runs like garbage on mine as well and on my Nexus 4 the group messaging was slow as help but regular 1 on 1 text is fine. Im running textra temporarily till the issue is fixed
Personally, I love the hangouts update and it runs fine on my phone, a droid turbo.
I don't think there are any substitute apps for hangouts messaging, so I got nothing.

Getting the same lag in hangouts as well mostly when I'm typing, thought it was swiftkey at 1st but the lag seems to be exclusive to hangouts which i use for sending google voice messages and sms as well as just hangout messages. After i unlinked my google voice messages to stop coming through hangouts and started using hangouts just for IM and google's messenger app for SMS the lag has seemed to go away entirely in hangouts now.
Same here, got my MXPE yesterday and when I enabled hangouts to handle sms it became garbage and even got a few FCs.
I can verify that it is the latest version of hangouts. Happened on my LG G4 and my old 1st gen moto x. I reverted back to a older version of hangouts and it fixed the terrible lag the OP described.
I am having the same issue. Also, I'm having problems with people not hearing me at all during calls, whether it be inbound out outbound calls. I have to reboot to fix it.

Newest hangouts runs find on my OPO I don't have my Pure yet.

3rd Party Messaging Apps will not receive text

Hello All!
I've been having this problem for a few weeks now and im all out of ideas of what to do.
Carrier: T-Mobile
Wearable: S3 Rugged
Extra Service: DIGITS
Coming From: LGV20 which never had these issues with the same plans and accesories
So to start, when i got the phone inittially during setup of the google accounts i noticed that my OTP SMS Pushes were not being received, or auto filling the information. I skipped past all of that and noticed that anywhere that OTP text were suppose to autofill in different applications, it would not even when i received the text and got a notification.
So after a while of using TEXTRA which was working fine, one day i stopped receiving ALL text not just mms. I was able to send but never was I able to get anything from anyone. I ditched TEXTRA and went back to the stock Samsung app and noticed that all text were there, even though it was not default. After using the Samsung messages app i decided to go back to textra, heres whats funny. After Textra did it's initial setup, it only showed half of the recieved text from up to that day. Messages were incomplete, some just had one reply from a user and nothing else. So I also tried this with Android Messages and it had the EXACT same message log as textra. Both were not receiving the full logs from the server. Today Android Messaging was working for a good part of the day, then it just stopped all of sudden again.
Can someone help me with this, I've wiped the cache and factory reset the phone. Ive added and removed the multi-line settings in the samsung settings. I've tried the legacy settings on textra. I've called the DIGIT's customer service to see if they could fix it but they made and interesting point that it couldnt be digit because it wouldnt interfere with 3rd part messaging apps. When i switch apps i always make them default, i wipe the app cache etc.
I have a gut feeling this has something to do with something with the default Samsung Messages app and it somehow restricting use outside of it.
I just wanted to reply and say that I've been experiencing the exact same issue and haven't had any luck Google engineering my way around it. For me, I'm seeing the issue with Signal, so I don't believe it's the 3rd party app's problem. I can send messages (SMS/MMS), but the Samsung Messages app is the only one that "receives" them. A strange workaround I found was to download Android Messenger, set that as the default messaging app, then set Signal as the default messaging app again. This worked for a while, but I think the Samsung Messages app recently updated, and it broke this again until I repeated the above workaround.
It's annoying enough that, without a fix, I'll definitely be flashing a completely stripped ROM on this phone once we have the ability to do so to get away from all of the Samsung apps that I can't disable. And don't even get me started on Bixby...

I haven't had any issues with my At&t model...Been using Yaata since day one (about 2 months).
Also, there are some "package disabling" apps in the play store that will allow you to disable any app you want, you don't even need to be rooted. It cost me $1.99 (or around there), but was well worth it! You can even completely disable Bixby, so the button is even non-responsive.
Having the same issue and I may have fixed it. I logged completely out of Digits on the phone (settings/cloud accounts/multi line/hit the ... menu and choose log out.
I have this same issue. No matter which 3rd party SMS app I use I have missing text messages on the T-Mobile S8. Has anyone fixed this? It is driving me crazy. T-Mobile replaced my S8 and the new one does it (not as bad but it does it more than I'd like). How can I resolve this? My friend haf the same issue, he has an unlocked T-Mobile working on AT&T.
I don't use Digits or anything like that... any ideas?
hi guys
all you need to do
go to setings
device maintence
battery
scrool all the way down to unmonitored apps and add your 3rd party sms app
youre welcome
This still didn't work for me and I am having the same exact issues. I have tried installing 2 different 3rd party messaging (Textra and Mood) and both were not working properly. I can send messages out just fine but when I receive them they are delayed (like 5 minutes or longer). Sometimes, I don't get the messages at all. Of course, the Samsung Messaging app (which I hate) works just fine. I have even "Force Stopped" it! What to do?
go into the stock messaging app, and turn off advanced messaging
Has anyone found a solution? I've been using textra for years & suddenly in March I started having this problem but with sent messages. All incoming texts are displayed but my sent texts aren't. I did try the 2 suggestions above. On a note 8, Android 8.0.0,Samsung experience 9.0.
SOLVED. I had the same issues and found the solution. Before you install your 3rd party sms/MMS you need to disable the default messenger. I uninstalled signal, disabled the built-in messenger, reinstalled signal. Now I can receive texts. Also my phone is not a Samsung.

Text Msg Forwarding -- or Auto-Response... Is it possible?

I tried searching, but came up with nada - both in here and Google. I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to either forward Text/SMS messages, or send a auto-response. My reason for wanting to do this is AT&T is pissing me off with reception issues, so I picked up a Google Pixel 2 to try out Project Fi for a while. While I'm testing, I'm forwarding my calls to the Pixel number, but would also like to forward text messages, or at least send an auto response informing people to text the new number while I'm testing. Any insights/suggestions? Thanks!
I use the Pulse SMS app to access the text messages on my phone from my (non-cellular) android tablet, perhaps you could use it so you keep getting texts from your old phone on your new phone? As for auto-forwarding I just checked in the settings and Pulse for sure supports it.
I also checked the app store and there seem to be several apps designed for this exact purpose. I'd also be willing to bet quite a few of the 3rd party text apps support this.

Samsung Messages or Google Messages

Just got my S10+ this week, and have been busy playing with settings, etc..I'm coming over from the Note 8 (AT&T).
Question for everyone. Do you prefer the built in Samsung Messages app, or Google Messages. I like both, especially now with the dark them more readily available.
What makes me lean more towards Google Messages is the ability to get messages on the web/browser. Was using it all the time on the Note 8.
Wanted to ask if anybody has switched back/forth between the two messaging apps, and if they have encountered any issues? I had switched from Google Messages back to Samsung's message app on the Note 8, and my messages were being sent to the wrong person. That's not a good situation to be in. I ended up switching back because of that.
Also, I noticed there is an updated apk for Samsung messages. My S10+ is using v 10.0.10.111. Looks like they are up to v 10.0.20.37. Anybody install that apk? Any good/bad things in there?
TIA
Coming from an S7 edge i was forced off Google Messages due to the handling of group messages. Sometimes it would work but other times texts that belonged in a group would come in separately. I would then have to click to download the text before it popped back into the group. Other times those texts would show up as expired (even though i just received them) and i would never see what it was. Needless to say i couldn't use it anymore so i ended up using Samsung Messages which never has that issue. Now that i'm on S10+ i'm tempted to try Google Messages again in hopes that it works the way is should as i do prefer it over Samsung Messages just due to the look and of course the web messages.
I've been flip-flopping between: Textra, Google Messages, and Samsung messages.......I've decided to stick with Google Messages.
The Samsung app, feels dated.... I do like the notifications I get when sending to other (At&t) users using the Samsung messaging app (tells when read, or they're replying...ect...), but I only have 1 person out of my 200+ contacts that it's worked on (my 17yr old son, who hates the Samsung messaging app). Plus, it just feels dated. No swipe to delete and long messages require you to "read more".
Textra is the lightest of the bunch, and I've been using for the past 4 or 5 years..... It's also the most customizable. But, Google has upped their game on the last release and incremental updates. It just feels "native" to the phone now. I also like the fact when you receive a PIN number, it recognizes this and copies just the PIN for you.
Google Messages gets my vote
BTW: No issues with group messages for me on the Google Message app
I like the Google messages app very much, but since the update to OneUI I have been using the Samsung version as it's good enough and themes the same way as the other Samsung stock apps, which I like a lot.
I prefer Truecaller messages because of its spam feature..
I love Google messages over Samsung. It worked perfect when i was with ATT. Now that i'm with Verizon I've had issues with google messages. They would come through late or not come at all. Switching to Samsung messages seemed to clear this issue up, as far as i know. No one has said they texted me and i didn't reply. Although that doesn't mean its working correctly, i may not have been aware of missing texts.. Anyone else had any issues with Verizon? i read somewhere a while back that Verizon text messages only worked right when using Verizon messages app. Not sure why that is... Or if it's true. If anyone can shed any light on whether there is, or is not an issue with Verizon messaging if not using Verizon app.

Been using Google Messages for last like 2 years and never seem to have had any problems on Verizon besides the typical sending and receiving from an iPhone of videos etc
Textra every day of the week!
One more benefit of using Google messages is you can enable chat feature now.

Not in the United States. At least not yet.
It is live for 2 of my phones now
Using Google messages, but really like the ability to pin conversations to the top in Samsung app.
Sent feature request to Google..lol
I prefer Android Messages over the stock one.
I love google messages but 2 minor things why I don’t use it on my s10 .
1. Wish google messages had schedule send sms feature . I use that quite a bit . No where in google messenger can I find this option .
2. The notification doesn’t have a pop up view bubble, quick read notification come on the top of the screen when I receive text . Couldn’t find a way to get google messages to do that like stock app notification does .
If there is a fix for both I’d switch back to google messages.

I prefer Samsung over Google mainly because of the ability to pin conversation and star message, the pop up bubble.
If Samsung had scheduler that would be awesome.
There's Qsms which is quite good but I don't want additional apps installed when Samsung messages works atm .
I use Samsung messages at the moment. But the one thing I really miss from Google messages is swipe to archive conversations...I liked to be able to hide conversations I don't use a lot without having to delete them.
