For those who are expecting Android Pie in a future update, LG just released a new info about the expected devices that will be updated for this Android version - Q2 2019
Without any surprise, G6 is not in that list:
Original: https://www.lge.co.kr/lgekor/contents/mobile/swUpgradeDetail.do?swSeq=1070~
Google Translate: https://translate.google.pt/transla...contents/mobile/swUpgradeDetail.do?swSeq=1070
So... for those who still are waiting for a official update, better start looking for a custom ROM or new phone :crying:
They said in q3. Anyway oreo, pie is basically same **** for the end user, the usual apps will work the same, same functions, etc
The site is not available anymore. Have you found other sources for LG G6 not getting Pie?

LOL, even LG assistants dont know nothing about updates development so you will have "yes" and "no" answers from different sources and assistants...
we are under 3 weeks from receiving Pie on G6, so...keep your mouth shut and be gone.

Greetings G6'ers. I am on Stock Oreo and I am experiencing various lags and stutters. I have done a factory reset but to no avail. Will a reset via PC and LG Bridge be any different?
When the Pie update comes should I install it via OTA?
I just got this reply from LG.grrr!!
"Good morning Matthew,*
I am sorry to say that Android 8.0 Oreo is the last software update that the LG G6 will likely receive. Frustratingly, head office do not share software update release dates nor their recipient models with us here at LG UK customer services, so we cannot confirm definitively that this is the case. However, I have consulted our technicians, and they do believe that Android 9.0 Pie will be primarily and exclusively rolled out to our 2018 and 2019 models. It is therefore improbable that the LG G6 will receive Android 9.0 Pie.
I apologise profusely for any disappointment or frustration caused.*

Wow am I surprised :-/ NOT
LG's strategy is to have an upgrade cycle so slow, so that suddenly 2 years pass from a model's release (even though Pie has already been out for a year) then they give an excuse they don't support it any more because its an old model.
It's not very good service given that the phone was a flagship model.
Oh well, the phone still serves me well, but it would be nice to get the latest upgrade.....
i thought LG promised pie for LG G6.. And the LG G5 wont recessive any more updates...
To anyone disappointed ,THIS INFORMATION IS WRONG
there have already been official Lg g6 Android 9 beta builds released.you'll get pie latest by the end of September. Everyone just needs to wait
I got the same reply by lg support center, and they are saying convincedly that g6 will be stuck on oreo 8.0
What's the truth?
the truth is Lg will update the G6 to android 9 pie, Lg Korea just has no communication to the lg uk so they are under the impression it won't get any updates as there is no information on it on their servers & from their software support team.
it will come 100% this year.
That's not even Oreo let alone Pie. You can tell by the boot screen. Its supposed to say thinQ which is what the LG G6 has been rebranded to.
It's a beta, therefore incomplete.. the beta will likely not have the full branding stuff. Not saying that it's real or fake, just saying that's not an indicator.

Alright, so most of you reading this post right now either have an Optimus 7 or plan to get one (perhaps). With the exception of the early hard button problems I had with this phone (which was mostly fixed after two exchanges), I like everything else about it. The softwares that LG released preloaded on the phone, as well as the ones on the LG Store are genuinely useful.
However, since the early rumours and in most reviews, a Voice-to-Text feature was promised for November. Now, I know Bing search has that little voice button beside it (that I have not noticed in other WinPhones), and we have other augmented reality apps, but where is this rumoured Dictation feature that was spoken about? I want to send a text message using nothing but my mouth (that sounds wrong).
I have owned a Nexus One for the past eight months, and now that phone has been given to my brother. I really don't miss much, except for multitasking and some widgets, but the Voice-to-Text feature is annoying. WP7 has Voice Commands, some of which are only limited to US and UK (WTF Microsoft? Canada gets the backend all the time? Same with Zune...), but LG promised me Voice-to-Text, and I want it
I might be missing something or misunderstood what this feature meant, and if someone knows where to get this, or how it will work, then by all means, please let me know.
Share your thoughts below...
EDIT: It is listen under features and specifications in both the Canadian and the UK page of LG Optimus 7 in the LG website.
Here is where this feature is promised on the UK site of LG:
http://yfrog.com/jpmdz0j
It honestly looks quite intriguing.
And here is the VIDEO from the Canadian LG Site:
http://www.lg.com/ca_en/flash/feature/lg-moblie-E900-feature-flash-fancy_Voice_To_Text_video.swf
Just contacted Canada LG Support Line, and honestly, their customer service is worse than any other manufacturer I have ever called. Completely clueless representatives.
UPDATE: Now it is available both on Bell and Telus offerings of LG WP7 phones.
apparently it's available in the lg app store in some other regions ... some guy on some other forum mentioned in passing that he had it ... iirc he was italian
At least there's hope it'll show up for us canucks eventually
It's available in the lg app store now. I haven't tried it yet :|
Yes, it is finally available. Apparently, the initial release was on Nov 31th, and it was VERY buggy. But the new version available in Canada is Ver 1.1.0.0. and it is very stable. Not one crash or lag. The interface looks like...well it looks exactly the same as native apps in WP7.
I am extremely surprised at the performance. It registered anything I threw at it, although sometimes it took a while, but it even transcribed my ramblings. Also, it does French quite well, even though I have a pretty bad accent. I am amazed.
Respect LG. You are good.
PS: I wish this was integrated into every place you use the keyboard. Kind of like Android...Also, did you know only on LG phones the Bing search has that microphone symbol beside it? I didn't...until I looked at a Focus...

Yes its pushed by Moto but not developed and tested by it .. infact for all GPE devices .. google develops software and do testing on its part and then push it to OEMs. Then these OEM do short term testing on it and then they release it .
If Google haults these updates after finding any bug ,, then there is no way OEM will push OTA .Its all in google hand when it comes to GPE devices

" Updates to Google Play edition devices are managed by the device manufacturers, not by Google. Google works closely with the manufacturers to provide system updates shortly after a new version is released. Once an update is available, it can take up to two weeks for it to reach your device. Based on your carrier, it may take longer than two weeks after release to get an update.
Google Play edition devices may not receive the latest version of Android if they fall outside of the update window, which is usually around 18 months after a device has been released. "

That's the point we all saying from start,,,,
Acc to him it was OEM develops GPE updates but we saying that it's developed by Google but it's the OEM decision to finally push the updates . If Google will not develop the updates then OEM can't update Gpe , in case HTC M7 Gpe update was halted and there users start complaining about this on HTC page ,, Htc then released statement that Google hasn't delivered update
Its ultimately OEM push the updates but not develops it

It is the OEM who builds the update. Then Google infrastructure is used to push the update. All Google does is ensure that OEMs stay as close to AOSP as possible. Google gives them the source code for the update early and then its the OEM's job to ensure that the update is built and is stable. That is the reason why I quoted that particular line in the first place.
OK this is my last reply,,..
For your reference there is one more article from arstechnica.com
http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2015...gle-play-edition-program-it-was-already-dead/
Some extracts
1. GPe phones were just as much for the benefit of OEMs as they were for developers and Android fans. Google developed the OS and the apps and actually delivered the updates to the phones, but each one of them required OEMs to supply the kernel and support the underlying hardware (including hardware-specific features that were available on some GPe phones but not others)
2.The program didn't exactly start strong, and it doesn't help that Google has spent the last two years making unique “stock” Android versions of devices mostly unnecessary

Had the Nexus 6P - but even with Franco kernel and normal use battery life wasn't long enough. Saw the release of the S7 Edge unlocked which was great so I went and picked it up from best buy last night. Big reason is the monthly update cycle and keeping everything patched from a security standpoint without the Verizon bloat and slow release cycles.
Went to check the patch level and saw "Android security patch level: May 1, 2016". Checked for updates and are none.
Anyone else experiencing this? Appears to be missing June for sure and the newly released July security patches.

Yep - same with me - no briefing feed when you swipe left - nothing there.
Wonder whats happening - would hope Samsung provides updates to their own phone.. ?
I'm guessing it's because the phone just came out that they haven't released an update with the latest security patches yet. They probably have to set up their update servers for this new phone and a bunch of other behind the scenes stuff to get updates rolling. I would assume that it will get something within the next couple weeks and then continue to keep up with the other variants.
Does this variant of the S7 Edge have an unlocked bootloader?
No unlocked bootloader - just not tied to an individual carrier i.e. verizon, etc. with the extra bloatware.
Still no updates yet to the SM-G935U.
Ended up returning it and going back to my Nexus - no updates really sucks.
Has anyone figured out how to get briefing on the left screen. I used that a lot and i can't get it to work. Even went to the play store and Samsung store, got briefing but it won't let me enable it on the home screen settings...?
I've gone round and round with Samsung support about this particular unlocked device. The bottom line is that they are saying OTA updates for these devices might not be available because those are normally pushed through the carrier. They suggested to use their Smart Switch tool to apply updates. Even though this is a terrible idea and they should use OTA (with the invention of non-carrier WiFi these days ), I checked using this tool and surprise... there were no updates available.
I'll spare everyone the entire conversation, but this is how it ended:
"We understand. If you have an unlocked the latest updates for firmware and security can be done through Smart Switch. If you have checked for an update using Smart Switch and there aren't any currently available, we couldn't speculate on when that may change. In many cases this wouldn't be delivered OTA because OTA updates are normally pushed by carriers. Unlocked devices may not be able to get updates directly from the carrier currently being used. ^Jay"
Mine just updated today with the August 1st security patches. If had to guess, they waited until the Olympics were over since they handed these unlocked devices out to every athlete in attendance and they didn't want them receiving updates during the event.
Hopefully now that the unlocked models have received their first update, they will continue to get regular updates at the same time as other variants.
just checked for update - 164.13 mb ) ( g935v flashed to g935u)

Thanks for posting this one, thats good to hear. I wonder if they will proceed further. Good to hear Samsung's infrastructure will support updates in the future. I wonder if its only for security patches or if they will do incremental updates to OS as well, like Android N for example.
Just got this tonight. I didn't have automatic update turned on but I checked and this showed up. Idk if i should do it or not.
I'm on T-Mobile with the SM-G935U. I got the update a few weeks ago and now it shows the Aug 1,2016 Android security update.
As far as root and bootloader unlock should i not do the update or just go for it?

Indhu: Hi, my name is Indhu. How may I help you?
Indhu: Greetings from Moto and Lenovo. How may I assist you today?
P8tGames: Hello. I have a Moto G5 and I wanted to ask something about the software
Indhu: Please feel free to proceed with the question.
P8tGames: So, I actually have two questions. The first one is: An friend of mine still didnt got the march security patch update. The secound one is, Is the Moto G5 really getting Android 8?
Indhu: Security patches is a phased process, so it may some time before it is made available to all the devices across the world. Please be patient, and hopefully you will get the update soon.
Indhu: You will surely receive the Android 8.0 update.
Indhu: We look forward to the release of Android O and are excited about the improvements Google has made. We don't yet have the source code, which Google will release to manufacturers later this year.
Once that happens, we will dive into the code and will be able to share which Motorola phones will be upgrade
P8tGames: Wow, thats cool. Thank you very much for youre time. I will come back If I have any other questions. Thank you!
Indhu: That's my pleasure!
Indhu: You will be presented with a small survey via e-mail at the end of this Chat. As I really value any feedback about how well I have helped you today, I hope you don't mind taking some time to complete this.
Indhu: Is there anything else that I could help you with?
P8tGames: Yeah, no problem!
Indhu: Thank you for contacting Moto & Lenovo. Have a nice day.
Indhu has disconnected.

Its not confirmed and honestly don't keep high hopes.
I remember Asus promising two major updates to ZMP M1 at launch. A Q&A session with one of their official also indicated this. BUT "major system update" cannot be conclusively termed as Android P & Q if we go by the track record of companies. In fact, we have seen brands go back on their solemn promise (Moto ?) only to face backlash and then provide a delayed update.
Long story short - we have a good probability of getting Q but don't bet your life on it - not yet !
yes definitely we will get Android 10 on Pro M1 but in 2020 when google is about to launch android 11....remember android pie released officially by google and asus gave that after almost 10 months passed....with beta program and still too many bugs....we all know that asus camera result is so poor....IT IS STRICTLY NECESSARY ASUS SHOULD COMPLETELY CHANGE THEIR SOFTWARE ENGINEER TEAM OTHERWISE IT WILL LOSE MOBILE BUSINESS...
What about custom Rom development of Android 10, it has been officially launched today.
Here I have found an easy way! Unlock Bootloader Asus ROG Phone 2
