Verizon phones come unlocked. They have a locked bootloader that limits the ROMs you can use, but you won't lock the phone. You will lose root if it's rooted, but in that case, you can use a rooted 5.0 ROM instead of OTA.
Hey! I have an unlocked S7 from T-Mobile. What all would I need to do to get it working with Verizon? Would Flashing Verizon firmware onto it (I actually already did this once for the Nougat Beta) make the CDMA radios work?

Yes you can flash the Verizon firmware or the 930u firmware and it will work on Verizon. There is no 930u Nougat firmware yet though.
Hi,
I'm a little confused here. I want to upgrade my firmware on an unlocked S8 I bought SM-G950U and it's currently running G950USQS2BQL1 which is VZW FW but I have att as a provider.
To update my firmware do I flash VZW FW or can I flash ATT FW? If I'm able to flash ATT will updates be pushed OTC from now on? Also is there a way to upgrade without wiping the data? Lastly, can I update straight to Oreo (one again without losing data?) The OTA function never provides any updates.
Thanks.

Flash the US XAA firmware and you will get rid of all the carrier bloat and get updates straight from Samsung servers.
If the S8 is unlocked then you can just pop in the Verizon sim and it'll ask to reboot and then you'll have the ATT FW.

What month security patch are you on? If its the November or later it should switch to an ATT S8 after it asks you to reboot. If its earlier then yea you'll be a verizon(doesn't have to be active) sim to get it to take the OTAs to being you speed, and then it'll change to an ATT S8 after asking for a reboot.
Edit: You don't have to flash a different carrier version, it'll change itself on the newer FWs to match whatever sim is in the phone.
hi guys,
During my last vacation in the usa. i got att s8 which i used throughout my one month stay.
upon getting back to nigeria, i had to unlock to use locally.
up till now i have not received oreo update -g950usqu2bqk5-.
so i plan to download another oreo att variant on sammobile. question is after i flash via odin, will i be required to re-unlock to continue use?

You have a snapdragon version that has a locked bootloader, there is no current standalone root method, if you have the latest bootloader installed then the mentioned methods you've used won't work as they haven't patched it yet. Blame the network providers for all this.

5th digit back from end is bootloader revision there is now a method of rooting nougat only. No oreo or pie. Fortuanatly the method installs safestrap where you can flash a nougat system img. Su and busybox. On top of a revision 5 combination nougat bootloader. Look up s8 safestrap edl
As a side note more than likely you will convert your model to a U model instead of a w
