ok one of the main reasons that I have bought the xperia play (besides the gamepad) is powerful speakers!
the thing is... mine is very low.
actually I think my previews galaxy had better speaker
so could it region related? having different models and such?
or could it be software problem?
model number:R800I
that's really weird mine is super quality and high sound ...

Same here! knocks spots off the sound of my old samsung galaxy s and iphone 4
mine are loud too but i noticed some games dont adjust the media volume they adjust the ringer volume. Are you sure they are set to 100%? try angry birds or something and see if media volume is 100%
Mine are pretty awesome too.
Only slightly better than iphone speakers though, although better anyway.
Maybe you have one of the two speaker not working
really mine is so loud specially when he is deployed / splitted
So I got my parents a nexus 7 because getting them to skype/video chat with me on the computer was an absolute ordeal.
Now with the Nexus 7, they just have to hit that little video call icon in Google Talk to call me.
But I don't know WHAT it is, but I can't video chat with them and hear what they are saying without muting my mic when I'm done speaking..and then unmuting it when I want to say something. It's extremely frustrating.
I tried to call them with my Galaxy Note II yesterday on Google Talk..no problems! It works like a video chat should.
So I'm not sure if this is a problem with Nexus 7's inherently? Or if mine is bad and the one my parents have is fine, or what.
Anybody have any ideas?
Please, anyone?

I can't be of too much help here because I don't own a Nexus 7, but I do own a Nexus 4, and I have the same issue no matter what device I try to do a video chat with. I never tried muting the mic, but still a lot of garbled random audio noise, making it unusable. I've even tried Tango and I still had the issue (although it was better).

I guess this is just a problem with the nexus devices build quality. I got my sister the note 10.1 and she can video chat just fine.
The S4 and Note 3 have this issue, random and quite annoying popping when recording audio. I was really disappointed when I heard it on the Note 3! Hopefully it has been fixed on the S5!
Can anyone confirm whether or not it's there?
popping? my s4 never had any pops. it recorded amazing audio.

We'll see when I get mine. I'll let you know. But I think, it'll not be there for some S4 and Note 3, there's no popping when they record.
I've had numerous S4 and Note III samples through my hands and they have this issue. It's not an isolated issue. My Note II, HTC One, G2, iPhone 3/4/5s etc. have no such issues whatsoever. Normally I record video and audio separately but the argument (the best camera is the one you have with you) applies to a cell phone to capture things as they happen, unplanned. It's annoying to have these sounds in the audio.

Do you have an example of the issue?
weird i never experienced such thing on s3, n2, s4..
like I said, I've recorded plenty of guitar videos with my s4, through a Marshall dsl100 stack, which is loud and bassy, and it never ever ever had a problem with audio. it was always so clear and detailed, albeit only 128kbps. my g2 has that horrible underwater wishy-washy sound that makes the video camera unusable. I've never once seen audio artifacting on the s4. I had the snapdragon version, maybe you had the exynos?

my audio was terrible on my S3 when recording video at festivals/concerts...hope this is fixed on the S5...everyone i know that has iPhones has no issue recording loud audio.

Yes the problem is not with loud music like other devices which hard clip especially on kick drum hits...
This popping noise is most common when it's very quiet like recording at night with just the crickets outside...
And yes the audio was completely unusable on the G2 for me as well, if you recorded video in a loud cafe, no problem. But as soon as you went into a quiet area the gain levelers started getting really confused and there was all kinds of problems with sound. Ashame too since its camera (G2) was so nice...
Back to the S5, I have one in hand and while I have not put it through the gears my preliminary findings reveal a completely changed recording from the S4/Note3 hardware. The AGC does tend to bring up the levels higher when ambient sound changes but at least there's no nasty pops. The pops on the S4/Note3 can be removed with a click/decrackle plugin on most DAW software but they shouldn't be in there in the first place. This looks promising.
The video low light performance looks very good, I was shining a focused down aspheric torch (flashlight) around the pasture at long range and the screen was 100% black except where the beam was hitting objects at hundreds of yards away (barn, trees, etc.) and the detail looked shockingly good! I viewed the video on my Macbook Pro w/ retina display so it's a valid test.
Have not tried to see if it's IR filtered. Tonight we'll have the burn barrels going, that's the best IR test I know of without taking it to the lab.
These processors are so powerful it would be nice if they gave us the option of lossless audio recording and even a RAW photo option, although these tiny sensors would need a LOT of post processing to make the images useable. Still, however I always find that RAW+ Photoshop CS6 post processing looks better than the camera's aggressive post processing tuned for speed and convenience. With a 128GB microSD card, RAW+JPG would be fine.

This is not me/my video, but this is exactly how it sounds. Both the S4 and Note3 do the same exact thing!

Yep, I have several concerts recorded in 2012 and the audio clips worse than these kids with their pyramid amp powered systems playing hip hop with the bass turned to 11!
That's why I always record audio and video on separate devices. They won't allow a real camera (no cams with removable lenses that is!) in most venues...
I was at a gig on Friday night and sadly all my videos have distorted sound quality. Issue stll exists..

I'm just back from a gig, i took a vid it seems fine on the phone a little blown out, but then again i was pretty near the speakers.

Yep, common issue.

I can confirm the popping is present in my unit too. Had it on S4 as well. It tends to occur less when the sound is turned to minimum while recording.

Hey guys, I'm new here and enjoying my silver Mate 8 to the fullest but I have a question for you all. The sound of my Mate 's speaker sounds solid when the volume is half way but when I crank it up the sound is getting distorted and not as clear as volume low or half way. Is this normal for this phone or could I have a bad unit? Also, when a sound (music, Youtube etc.) is finished playing i hear a soft static for 1 or 2 seconds followed by a click. The click is only noticable when I'm in a quiet room or if put the speaker to my ear. Is my OCD getting the better of m:silly:e or is this really an issue for a phone swap?
Thanks in advance!
I guess it is normal. Comparing to s6 edge. The speaker of mate 8 produce better sound quality In medium volume (give mean impression of wow, never hear the vocal and music instrument mix so well. Where s6 edge vocal is clear but instrument sounded too tight together.)
. But if compare both on max volume. Mate 8 indeed suffer some distortion and not clear.

Oke thanks. And the clicking sound after each sound is normal or might be a hardware/software issue (see a lot of 'complaints' about this issue on all brands)? I just played a Facebook video and noticed a much softer click than with the system sounds/music. You should expect the sound to be the same all around if it is the speaker going off. Weird.

i love my mate 8 its really a good device but i have only one issue with it, its the low speaker volume i noticed this since the first day i got it (speaking from an ex. samsung note 5 user) i can surely say that the note 5 speaker is much louder and its so strange how big the difference is so i was thinking that maybe i have a defective mate 8?
Is this headphone hissing sound common in all mi a1 phones or is there some hardware issue?
hiss
Is your phone plugged in and charging when you get the hiss? im thinking its a hardware fix. It's not easy to notice it, at 1st I thought mine was OK - but play any tune that has some lower volume parts and you can hear it. Also, play any MP3, pause it - and you will hear the high pitched whine / hiss - it sort of sounds like electronic interference of some sort. So the sound is always there just masked until quieter passages. To test , use headphones, turn up the volume, play an mp3, use YouTube - anything with audio, then PAUSE the item and listen - you will hear a second or so of the noise, then it will stop.

Just noticed this last night :/. I was using apple earpods. changed to sony headphones, and the issue is gone. weird though
I'm interested in buying this phone but I'm holding off on it because of this widespread headphone audio issue. I'm surprised that this is such an issue... especially since the phone's supposed to have a 10v amplifier and Xiaomi's marketing the phone's HD audio? WTF.
I just need to know if this is affecting only Indian models or all models.
It's not that big of a deal mate you can only for a couple seconds when it goes silent, the audio on this is great

What about this thread? https://www.reddit.com/r/Xiaomi/comments/71xrqz/mi_a1_headphone_static/
Seems like a fairly serious issue. And I like my volume loud (90+) so if static is apparent at higher volumes, I'll be extremely upset.
I'm extremely skeptical about the audio quality of this device. I can totally see it being above average or devices from the same price segment but I'm sure it isn't something from another world. People seem to over praise it and I'm sure most of them are just considering loudness as audio quality.

with some half decent earphone this phone sounds great not just loud mate
I'm having same issue.
This might caused by the audio amplifier boosted the volume gain which increases the static noise and taints audio clarity.
Earphone/headphone which has more than 35ohm impedance and low sensitiviy pressure level below 98dB might have better chance with the boosted gain.
Even on ATH M40X, the background static noise is still noticeable when sound is played. *sigh
I wish the amplifier is disabled by default and could be enabled on demand from equalizer app.
@chrone Exactly, I'm willing to see how it will perform with biquads mod (if it is possible)
Hey guys I've just noticed that I get the same hissing sound on my nvidia shield K1 but I never noticed it lol

I just tested it with my bluetooth headphone. It's working good and I don't hear any weird sounds/hissing etc. But does the amplifier work if I use bluetooth headset?

Maybe someone can fix this in a custom ROM?

Seems like a low impedance problem? There is a thread on reddit about this:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Xiaomi/comments/71xrqz/mi_a1_headphone_static/
Audio Quality is awesome on both the speaker and headphone jack. I have no issues. I am already getting mod like quality from this one.
I have this problem too using Audio-Technica Mx 40x and xioami hybrid. It's becoming quite annoying
