Hello everyone. I have some issues while using the Hotspot on my LG G6 (Android 7.0 w/ Fulmics OS). In practice, when I activate the Hotspot, it turns on, but it can't be seen by other devices (in particular, I used two laptops to test this). After a couple of seconds, it turns off itself.
I think this problem started when i followed this post to fix some 5Ghz problems I had (now I can connect to 5Ghz WiFis).
How could I fix this problem? I managed to follow those passages from in a reverse way, but it didn't fix the problem.
No one?

Hey everyone,
My Verizon LG G2 (VS980) seems to have an issue with wireless N specifically. I noticed that my data over wifi would just randomly stop working after seconds / minutes of use when connected to my D-Link DIR-655 wireless router when broadcasting N protocol. Turning wifi on and off on the LG G2 would temporarily fix the problem for seconds or minutes (pretty random in my experience) before the problem presented itself again. I realized that I only experienced this problem at my home and that it was the only N-based network the phone has connected to at this point. I switched my home network to G only mode and the wireless works perfectly on my LG G2. If I switch back to N, the problem reappears instantly.
I have reset my phone to see if that cleared anything up but unfortunately, it didn't. Also, my friend has an LG G2 with a Cisco / Linksys wireless N router and has no problems at all. The only troubleshooting I haven't performed yet is connecting my phone to another wireless N network to see if the same behavior exists between my phone and other N-based routers.
Any suggestions or has anyone else experienced this issue? Based on my google searches, I'm starting to think I'm the only one
Thanks!
It's a know issue. Basically it depends on the router you have. Those of us unlucky ones seem to have the best luck setting the router to G only. That sucks if you need the speed for other devices. Changing the wireless channel on the router only temporarily fixes the issue. Only setting to G only, has worked for me. Hopefully it will be resolved in a future radio update. There's another thread discussing this also.
Sent from my VS980 4G using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Thanks much for the reply.
I'm sorry I didn't find the other thread. I searched and manually browsed the sections for related topics and didn't find anything. Can you please link to it if there is an active discussion or update happening in that thread? Lastly, is this is a known issue recognized by LG or by XDA community?

Known problem, as in you are not alone.
maybe you have battery saving on with setting switch off wifi when no data use?
Here is the fix.

I have the DIR 655 and had the same problems. Your router needs a firmware update. Go to the D Link site and download the latest firmware update. It is the firmware update that fixes the same issue that the S4 was having, dropping after a few seconds of connection. Since I have updated the firmware on the D Link DIR 655, I have not lost the connection in over two weeks.
Real simple process.
Download the update (1.37NA I thinks is the latest for the "A" series routers. There is also a "B" series router)
Save the file to desktop
Open a browser window and type http://192.168.0.1
Enter your password if you have one. If not, the Admin account has no default password.
Save your current router configuration of you router settings on the desktop.
Flash the firmware.
Reboot the router.
Load the saved router configuration.
Reboot the router.
You will be good to go.
yes I had that same router, applied the firmware update and it resolved the issue!

Thank you very much for pointing out this firmware upgrade. I thought D-Link stopped making firmware for the DIR-655 in 2010 because I was checking for new firmware using the button within the router firmware, which says I have the latest version...fail! Checked the D-Link website, upgraded to the new firmware version and so far, so good!
Thank you, thank you, thank you
G2 on D-link DAP-2553 router (AP)
Does anyone have a D-link DAP-2553 router having this problem. I am and have been working with Tier 2 Verizon support, D-Link Support and LG support. My G2 connects for about 45 seconds and then drops, reconnects after 30 seconds and drops again after 45 seconds and so on. I've tried many different settings and anything is temporary. Thought I had it when I eliminated security, thought I had it when I eliminated "N" protocol, but it comes back.
Anyone else having this problem. If so call D-Link!
After the upgrade to Lollipop on my Yoga 2 830, I'm noticing that the wifi gets no internet access even while connected every so often. I have to turn off and turn back on the wifi for it to reconnect. Is anyone else having this issue? I don't have any issues w/ any of my other devices connected to wifi.
I'm not on static IP, no issues with the router. I didn't have any issues on kitkat. Please share if you also have this issue. Thanks.

Hello!
Did you try connecting your device to another wifi network to see if the problem persists?
I have noticed something similar happening with my Xperia Z ultra after it upgraded to lollipop. I realised that it was happening only on the older wifi routers (I use an ancient Linksys WRT54G), but seems to have no problem with the newer ones.
Changing the channel of your wifi router might help alleviate the problem. I am not certain if it would work in your case, but if you do not have another router handy, this just might do the trick. If you are looking to change the channel, an easy guide is available here.
I hope this helps
I've got a Netgear AC1900 nighthawk with a netgear ex6200 range extender. The tablet is primarily connected to the 5ghz band on the nighthawk. I do have other routers but they are older. I might have to try to take it to work and see if I lose internet access.
I've changed the bands around and it does help. I've rebooted the router, rebooted the tablet, forgotten the wifi and so on. It's still happening after some time. By the looks of it, there are others that have experienced this on other devices. I haven't done a factory reset. I would prefer not have to go through the setup again.
Curious to know if the community is having tethering issues since going to Nougat.
Tethering does turn on and it does work to an extent but it'll either turn off whenever it wants or it'll simply stop serving requests. There is not a set amount of time for either before experiencing the issue. I'm pointing this issue directly at the tethering aspect as the phone will always browse and do anything as expected even tho the tethering clients are unable to. Even when the clients are unable to browse I can still ping the exact website that will not load. I can even curl those pages and get data back..
Here's what I've tried:
- Disabled adblocker on the phone
- Kept phone awake
- Connected to the charger
- Disconnected from the charger
- added net.tethering.noprovisioning=true to the build.prop
- Nuked and paved with different ROMs
Going to try installing a different tethering app to see if that works. UPDATE: This also produced the same results
I can connect to another 6p not running nougat and everything works as expected with the same computer so that rules out the computer.
Anyone else running into this issue? Anyone have a fix?
Thanks
What carrier are you on? Does hotspot work ok?

Verizon also using EX kernel. It's almost like some sort of cache fills up
Thank you!!! I thought it was just my phone hardware maybe. Having the same exact issue once I hit the official version of nougat. It didn't pop up until I believe thr 5th developer release as an issue. It really annoys me either streaming or online gaming it'll just cut out. I am really close to just going back to one of the developer previews that it did not occur on. Please anybody who can fix this issue or needs anything like a logcat, let me know.

What carrier are you on? Tethering can mean Wi-Fi, USB, or BT. I guess you are talking about the Wi-Fi hotspot because it's the most commonly used. My Wi-Fi hotspot is working fine on AT&T, although I haven't used it for gaming. Haven't heard back from OP, but I think he may be talking about Wi-Fi as well? You could try changing frequencies under advanced settings to toggle the hotspot to use 5Ghz instead of 2.4Ghz if you haven't tried that (and your equipment supports it).
I was having same issue also running latest PN, EX 4.04, radio/bootloader & vender.
This seemed to help but just started yesterday.
In Terminal Emulator, enter below code one by one:
su
settings put global tether_dun_required 0
exit
------------------------------------------------------
Reboot
Now if I could figure out how to stop adding a network every time I connect to hotspot with cp when I turn hotspot off & back on.
I'm thinking this could me a Verizon unlimited thing since not many people have anymore & very few people have stated issues.
Update: The above is not going to cut it! Hotspot seems to hang on longer but still disconnects!
I have Verizon, and yes, I am speaking to*Hotspot tethering. I have this issue only on Nougat. When I use a*Marshmallow based rom it doesn't happen. I use my hotspot as my home internet (laptops, smart tv, tablets, smartphones) and all of them drop connection after random intervals (most times after an hour to few hours). Not until the DPs for 7.1 did a change in the way it failed happened. Before those DPs, it would shut off and the notification icon would disappear (hotspot actually off). After*the DPs for 7.1 started, the tethering would still be on (on the*6P) but no device would show that it was on (in range). I have to shut it off, then*turn it back on. I use stock, Cortex or PN mostly. Root or no root. I also do not use custom kernels unless they come with the rom, although I have tried a couple to see if it would fix it. It didn't.*I have always attributed it to either faulty hardware somehow or DOZE improvements that kicked in. The DOZE came to mind as it almost seems as the phone is trying to*get into deeper sleep. I don't know. Any help would be appreciated.
Same issues with pixel, some said it works others did not.

Yes for wifi tethering.
Well cannot seem to find anything on disconnect solving issues, posted solutions seem to be if tethering does not work at all.
Hope someone can solve.

Did you try toggling hotspot to use 5Ghz instead of 2.4?

Laptop I'm using only does 2.4.
Was never a problem with the HTC M8 on MM, just recently bought the 6P.
Thanks
Had another laptop that had that had a 2.4 / 5Ghz dual wireless card.
Holds wifi hotspot with no disconnects whatsoever, longest time connected was 2.5 hours.
I will have to settle for usb tether on the 2.4 laptop for now until the wiser ones can find cause.
Just ran into this issue on the 6p running 8.0 beta 3. Seem related to the data encryption of the wifi hotspot. Turning encryption seems to solve the problem. However, I would say that is not really a solution, unless you don't running unsecured hotspot.
Edit: Turns out it only helps. Not a solution. Still disconnects just not as often often.

So recently I have been having WiFi issues with my nexus. Its strange because It will cycle saying "Saved", and "Connecting" but never connect to my WiFi. The weird part is that when I unlock my phone it shows that I have WiFi but as soon as I try to do something it drops WiFi and uses cellular data. It only seems to connect when it is sleeping. I have tried another wifi and it does the same thing. I have it updated to oreo the most recent update but that is when I have noticed this problem. I have tried factory resetting the phone but it still does the same thing.
I was wondering if I would run a custom firmware if that would help. Right now my phone is stock. I was planning on just following the guide to Unlock/Root/Flash https://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/general/guides-how-to-guides-beginners-t3206928

I had a similar problem, dropping wifi and lte, turned out it was a greenify magisk module and the greenify app. Uninstalled and now have no problem.
What version is your radio and bootloader? The newest radios seem to work best for my 6p.
Hello everyone,
As the title states the 5ghz wifi hotspot doesn't work. It may show that is enabled and all the relevant icons appear but no device ever is able to find the network. 2.4ghz works fine. I have the phone for about 2 years now and I really can't remember a point when it worked. In the meantime I have changed to miui.eu (the phone came with miui global) and it still doesn't work.
Could the wifi chip be faulty from the beginning? Do you guys have a similar problem? It's not really a huge deal but I'm just curious about what may have caused this problem.
