S10 Plus issues (Moved from iPhone 8 Plus) - Samsung Galaxy S10+ Questions & Answers

Hello Everyone,
Hope I get some help from here, so long story short but not too short:
I moved to S10 Plus after 9 years of Apple phones and now struggling to cop up with few issues on this Samsung device:
- Accidental touches in the pocket - Had to turn off AOD, double tap to wake up and lift to wake (one of the reasons I made a switch lol)
- Batter drain - 1 hour of SOT and phone is down to 80%, killing me as it drains so quickly in standby, every 10 minutes it would drop 1%, on Optimised battery, 50% brightness with Full HD resolutions - tried all other tweaks you mentioned. Only thing I am feeling is that I used SmartSwitch to bring my messages, call history etc from iPhone - if Samsung techies here think that might be the issue then please help me on how to backup my messages etc to do a clean restore (sorry I am new to Android and only know iTunes until now)?
- NO glass protectors - It is a shame that after you spend and buy such an expensive phone, one is unable to protect it with a Glass protector: I read Dome glass protector works but some people mentioned it does not work with fingerprint scanner - also its very costly too , please share your thoughts on how you guys are protecting the screen?
- Face unlock - I was using it and its too fast as well but stopped after I read its not secure at all!!!! why have they removed IRIS scanner!
Guys - I am really looking for expert help here as I love this phone and do not want to go back to iPhone as with the issues I am having its highly pointing towards returning this one and buying Apple again......
Thanks in advance!

What firmware do you have?
Face Unlock: disable faster recognition and do won't have issues about it security, the people in YouTube that did the test, made it with this option enabled that is less safe.
I have double tap enabled, for now the screen is no accidentally turned on
Battery is solved in ASCA firmware

Accidental touches in the pocket
I think it got fixed in the last update, if you're on Snapdragon, Snapdragon unlocked or Carrier Exynos you'll get it a bit later
- Batter drain
Did you follow every single step of the guide? You must be doing something wrong, one of your apps is clearly not giving a f about letting your phone rest, you need to find what is causing the problem, that's how it works on Android phones with more generous RAM management.
- NO glass protectors
They don't really protect anything, if the strike is well delivered both the protector and your display will crack anyway, plus they don't adhere to curved edges and they become a sticky mess.
The Dome costs way too much for what it does, it gives 50% chances of making your fp scanner useless and the protection it offers is limited to scratches, you can find clear TPU protectors for £2 that still protect the display from scratches and allow the fingerprint sensor to work.
- Face unlock
This is a gimmick tech pushed by Apple for easily impressed people that have no notion of security, even with a ToF sensor this is not a valid authentication protocol in any way, rare similar faces, siblings of even different gender and carefully crafted masks with open eyes will unlock it, it also requires more modules and processing power every single time you use it compared to fingerprint sensors.
Some Android OEMs jumped on the face reco tech train to use the trend, Samsung chose to remove the iris sensor to completely abandon it, sure face recognition is still there as in stock Android but it's not meant to be used on this device, there won't be face recognition tech in the future and you should stop using it now.
It's normal to be tempted to return to Apple after such a short period, but you need to be ready to leave the forced comfort zone you were used to.
The "I'm afraid to walk through cold water" phenomenon is why Apple is not losing customers quickly enough, they are not a fair playing company and every other competitor has something better to offer.
I left Apple devices during the iPhone 4s era once I realized that Jailbreaking and Cydia were dying, they all moved to Android, if you are not a completely tech ignorant person then you deserve better than some iOS toy that won't even let you manage files or customize a system properly.

Is there a way I can check ETA for March 2019 update for Australian unlocked version of S10 Plus?
Thanks!

I am on Australian unlocked device, how to check if I have SD or Exynos?

Yes I tried most of steps from guide, I would dig more into it..

Agree they are sticky mess - Samsung might realise and may release flat screen phone next time its still kind of satisfaction even of little chance to saving your expensive screen from falls, my iPad saved from a fall because of glass protector!
- Face unlock

I am using Face unlock for now as its faster than on screen FP scanner.

I don't think I am going back to Apple as I love this display and phone so much and ready to learn the OS and dig into it with the help of you guys Using S10 Plus with S3 Frontier - what else one needs - just love it

I'm on New Zealand unlocked exynos and flashed that. Just check your csc is in the oxm multi csc list in that thread.
Use Odin with all 4 files using csc home file so you dont lose all your data.

use the minimum display resolution is definitely your battery problems, i've compared the max and minimum resolution and not only is it such a small (i think, not entirely sure i can see anything i'm not wanting to see hard enough) improvement, if any worthwhile one that you'll never notice the difference anyway.
i can do two full days of moderate use easily with the minimum resolution, with the maximum the percents tick off nearly as fast as the minutes did.
edit: it was around two minutes for every 1% of battery from my experience on maximum.

I can clearly see the difference between minimum and FHD resolution and WHD, what's the point in buying so expensive phone if you only using it with 720p resolution in 2019 just to save battery?!! Honestly, I would rather prefer higher resolution than battery....

Thanks but I would wait for another week for official release for Australian variants before trying to flash.

And the March update is here, wohooooo

Had to log in to this ancient account just to call you out on some Android fanboyism.
I have been using tech all my life. On phones I've used Windows Mobile 6, Symbian, Android, Linux, Windows Phone, Windows 10 Mobile and iOS. There is nothing obviously better or worse in Android. For most people, a smartphone nowadays needs to do a few things... social media, pictures, media consumption and calling. There is about zero difference in handling these things between iOS or Android. I am using an iPhone XS Max and the S10+ right now. Practical differences? Well, one has a biometric security lock that works basically 100% of the time, the other some gimmicky under screen ultrasonic fingerprint scanner that is having a ton of issues .
Really, bringing up carefully crafted masks as a security risk :silly:. If you are a regular person, FaceID is going to be secure enough, probably even more secure than fingerprints (easier to get your prints off of something than to do an accurate 3D recreation of your face to create a mask). Don't forget that fingerprint scanners have been fooled plenty as well. If you want security, go use an old fashioned PIN all the time.
I'm sorry man, I understand you like Android and I'm not saying you shouldn't. Just drop it down a notch on the anti Apple stuff. One of the reasons Apple is still very popular is simply because it does what people need it do. It doesn't have all that much to do with people being scared of Android or a change, they just don't feel a need to change.I am probably going to sell the S10+ again. Not because it is a bad phone or Android is so scary to me, but because the iPhone suits my needs already and the S10+ doesn't really do anything much better.

Shouldn't have logged in your account at all, because there's no fanboyism and you should give another read or two to what I said.
As a fact, I'm only using Android because there is nothing better, I don't like it, even less love it, all these years and it is still a very fragmented and unstable system, I'm using it purely for adaptation, iOS died for me and for anyone else with a brain.
iPhones aren't the only devices with strict face recognition and I have criticized the technology of all of them, not just the one implemented by Apple, so you can tell Tim **** that he sent you here for nothing.
Twins and relatives can still easily fool faceID and youtube is full of reports about that, your face is also EVERYWHERE, and it will never change unless something bad happens to you.
Fingerprints are different, you have many, you can use your toe too if you want, your twins or clones will never have the same replicas and you can alter them yourself at any time.
Ultrasonic fingerprint sensors aren't used only for security and they can be used for health tracking too, even if no implementations have been published regarding that side yet.
It's all about a very versatile emerging technology vs a pure future-less gimmick for people that can't aim with a finger, really nothing else to discuss about it.

I can also see the difference in screen res, spending most of the day working on my phone. Battery is fine with WQHD and screen using adaptive brightness , battery lasts all day for me.
No need to turn resolution down at all none whatsoever
Sent from my SM-G975F using Tapatalk

I wish I could see a difference between the resolutions. Apparently I'm getting old ?

Android as OS doesn’t even adopted on screen fingerprint leave a lone 3D Face ID. Huawei add already 3D Face ID same as iPhone X with mate 20 Pro and it does works way better than unreliable on screen fingerprint that can be hacked with easy even lol. Don’t blame Apple for android failure since android can’t adopt one screen finger print, no true 3D Face ID and no [email protected] adopted on android last and not least there’s no even proper screen colors management unless of android OEM’s add, so fix your staff first then blame Apple lol.

Still cant believe they didn't put a front facing 3d depth camera on this device.

Yes, this is the problem. Most device forums have one roll-up thread for user reviews. We don't need a new thread each time someone buys the device. It clutters the forum and makes finding information difficult.

I have a question here :
When popping up Aircommand menu does it works with finger while clicking on any app or not ?
But how is it in the hand without any cover? Is it not slippery as....?

The S6 edge is great if you want more looks and it's a better party trick kind of phone. The Note 5 is much more functional, has the S-Pen, bigger screen, a battery that will actually last a full day, and an extra gig of ram (meaning less aggressive app killing). If you want a party trick type phone, get the edge. If you want a functional phone, get the Note 5.

My only real design issue involves point 3 in this thread by @zeesh86. I don't consider myself a fatfinger (maybe just like a little sausagy-fingered), but I was opening, moving, and deleting apps regularly on accident. I'm blaming it on the rear curved sides and smaller distance between the screen and side of the phone. Less bulk means my grip overlaps the sides and my fingers touch the screen. I ended up having to lock the apps (Nova Launcher) because it was such an oft occurring issue; however, since adding a case (and not even a bulk one) it's no longer a problem.
Pros
- big display with good colors
- powerful CPU (altho i read it gets hot and performance is questionable)
- Stylus
- nice camera (http://echostorms.net/camera.png)
- fast charging
Cons
- no removable SD card
- no removable battery
- locked bootloader (verizon and AT&T), making it difficult to root, and prevents fun stuff
- heavy KNOX hardware
- uses 75%+ of the 4GB RAM when nothing is running (just like the Galaxy S6)
- advertised as octa-core, but actually 2 quad core CPUs. Probably because one is at 1.5GHz while the other is 2.1GHz, bigger numbers = higher sales, so hide the fact that one is slower
unfortunate to say, but iOS > Android
I could probably come up with more pros/cons, but these first that came to mind.
i did a camera test earlier today, records at 1440p? - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYu-5LPWPy4
Own it. Love it. I've never been happier in a mobile device.
Screen is gorgeous, sound is loud for a cell phone, the feel in the hand is great as well. The curved back makes it easy to hold. If you don't have your thumb centered the fingerprint scanner won't read. Fast charging is amazing too. Have 15 minutes? Boom Extra 20-25% of juice. I've noticed that this phones battery life is better than my previous Note 4, 3, 2 and any other device I've owned. Coupled with the fast charging and wireless charging it's a breeze. If I don't remember to charge my phone overnight--no problem. Charge it real quick while I get ready for work and I'm usually at 100%

That can be remedied by moving your thumb around a bit when registering your fingerprint. Sure you can't just use the corner of your thumb, but as long as your covering most of the button, it shouldn't matter whether it's centered or not if you've recorded enough of the print.
I didn't want to create a new thread for this but don't know exactly where to express this sentiment.
Today my brother bought an AT&T Galaxy S6. It's still on 5.0.2. That really worries me for my AT&T Note 5. How long does AT&T take to update their devices? How long has 5.1 been available while a flagship device on AT&T is stuck on 3+ month year old software? Will we ever see Marshmallow on AT&T?

AT&T notoriously takes longer than other carriers to send updates. Been like that for ages.
My list of Ps and Cs coming from an iPhone 6+ and Oneplus One
Pros:
-Battery life has been very good
-Camera takes quality photos and video
-Voice calls are clear
-Phone has a relatively small footprint, so the size is not unwieldy
-s pen works very well, no issues
-s pen integration with the note is a very cool feature and high up on my nice-to-haves
-Screen is gorgeous and easy to read in daylight, I've compared to the iPhone 6+ screen for fun and text looks sharper and most pictures and video look sharper.. there are times the iPhone looks better for certain games that I'm sure were not optimized for the higher resolution
-FAST CHARGING IS REAL and is freaky fast!!!
Cons (very small issues):
-Occasional lag when scrolling... after using Oneplus One and iPhone 6+ it's hard not to notice a few glitches here and there when scrolling pages, especially pages with a lot of rich media; but it's hardly noticeable and I've already gotten used to it, disabling some of the bloatware definitely helped, I'm confident of that.
-Bluetooth is inconsistent when connecting to my Samsung soundbar, which sucks because it's the only device in my house that can't connect. I need to play around a little bit to figure out why.
-Bloatware, bloatware, bloatware
Overall, if I was asked to rate this phone I would say 10/10 compared to other phones in the same class.
Some experience about my note 5

Actually, Samsung do some innovation on Note 5. I love the glass body very much. Fast wireless charger inside was truly a great progress, which made me want more!!

Hey guys! We have a new section here in the Note5 forum, it's kind of experimental. It's a place where you users can rate and review the many different facets of what makes a device unique like maximum (and minimum) screen brightness, app launch speed, speakerphone quality, and more. My mistake of buying Note 5
Oh Lord how I miss having an SD card.
I've never had problems with deleting old stuff off of my phone this is the first time I had to delete stuff of my phone.
On bright side- it helps me stay on top of things but now I gotta continuously monitor storage.
Even now i'm down to free space 2 gb lol
Apparently S7 has sd card in it again- so I'm guessing Note 6 will have it too. Not sure if I'd get it or not but it's nice to see Samsung is going back on track.
What do you guys miss?
Oh Lord I miss the sunlight, it's been a long depressing winter here.
On the brighter side 110gb on onedrive , 17gb on Google drive, plus you can use a OTG drive. My Note 5 has 64gb too !
I miss my dog too, he died and my wife has left me What am i gonna do now?

First Impression and After Use Thread

CONGRATS on your purchase,
I know a lot of us have already received our devices, and some haven't. If you have received your new phone, post your first impressions. After using the device some, also post what little tricks you may have found, what you have fell in love with and what you dislike or absolutely hate. Also, what was your previous phone and are you enjoying your upgrade? I'll start by saying first impression is I love the size and screen. Real quick thing I do absolutely hate is Bixby. Tried it out a few times from the button, sucked. And the image recognition got me a little excited, but disappointed. I must also add, the face recognition is amazingly fast.
I use only FACE RECOGNITION - it is very fast, works 99% and I don't think one will steal, shoot a photo, print it... and so on.
It is the fastest and easy way to unlock the phone, I was wearing a hoodie and it worked very very well.
I am not the NSA, so face recognition is enough for me and I am happy that it is as fast as it is...

My Initial Thoughts
I received my Orchid Gray 64GB T-Mobile device yesterday around 5 PM EST. I have had a few hours to mess around with the device as a result. Here are my first impressions:
1. The screen is absolutely gorgeous. Samsung really hit it out of the park with this one. The images are clear, crisp, vibrant, and with absolutely zero pixels to the naked eye. This holds true even when the device is held close to the face. With that being said.... there are definitely some app and media content compatibility issues. Samsung tries to alleviate this with some built in cropping and optimization from the software side of things, but it just can't hide the fact that the content has quite caught up with the hardware. That is on the development community, though, and not Samsung.
2. Biometrics are the way to go when it comes to logging into and working your way through this device. The iris scanner isn't perfect, but, it is absolutely light years ahead of the tech that we had a taste of in the Note 7. The iris scanner ALMOST feels like a feature at this point, rather than a gimmick. With that being said. The fingerprint scanner is total weak sauce. This doesn't so much have anything to do with the actual location as it does the accuracy ratio of the scanner itself. I have long and thin fingers which make the placement of the fingerprint scanner a nonissue for me. To each their own. I would say that the accuracy is more a constant miss than a hit. I find myself using a combination of smart lock and the iris scanner with a pin to keep me going and it works well for me. I have not tried the facial recognition yet.
3. The device is blisteringly fast. There isn't any argument to be had here. Everything flies from web page scrolling to scrolling through the Playstore to loading apps from memory. No management issues yet that I have been able to spot. The only limitations are those of your data connection. The Snapdragon 835 is a thing of beauty.
4. The actual hardware absolutely oozes quality from the orchid color to the excess of gorilla glass and metal. The device is thin but not flimsy and big but not too heavy. Home run as per usual.
5. I am still working through battery life. I know it takes a few days for your software to settle so i'll report back at a later point with an update. Thus far, though, it is AT LEAST no worse than my Pixel XL. It might be a bit better but it is too early to tell. With that being said. The Pixel XL has faster fast charging. This sucker takes a bit to charge up. Not as long as it could take, but there is faster on the market.
6. My final point and my biggest issue with the device is primarily software. Whereas I felt that Samsung had finally reached a place of beauty with the final Marshmallow builds on the S7 Edge. The Nougat Touchwiz, or Grace, or whatever it is called these days feels like a bit of a step back. The software hasn't reached that point of optimization that the Pixel XL has nor even the level that the S7 Edge had. It feels more like the early Grace UX on the Note 7. There are scaling issues. The menus aren't always arranged in the best way. There is some scrolling jank in terms of the actual Android menus and whatnot. I feel that it probably has to do with an experience that wasn't quite optimized for such a unique screen, yet. I am hoping this will improve over time. I won't really hold it against Samsung. I mean, perhaps I am just spoiled after having been a Pixel XL user from the beginning but I won't say it necessarily works in their benefit yet, either. The S7 Edge felt polished. This experience still feels like a work in progress. Of course.....as of 420/17 we haven't even had a day one patch yet since day one is tomorrow...so......to be continued.
Feel free to ask me any questions if there is something I have missed. I feel like there is a lot I have left unstated.
EDIT: One additional thought. S7 Edge era standing wireless charging cradles are not completely compatible with the 8+ I have one and have tried it. The wireless charging cycles between connect and disconnect because the device is too tall for the cradle. The hardware inside as a result sits just at the edge of the top of the cradle and provides an inconsistent connection. This can be alleviated by sitting the device on the cradle sideways...but who wants to do that? Lol!
First impression...I no like it so much.
After playing with it all night tho, I like it. I got the 64gb s8+ and it's a lil tall but I think I'll grow into it. The fingerprint scanner that everyone is making such a huge deal about is in a great spot for me. When I go to pull it out of my pocket my finger falls right there and it's unlocked B4 I even look at the screen. The audio out of the akg headphones is great and it's even better in my car. Battery life, well, it's at 71% now and it's been on since about 7pm yesterday (10:49am now) and that's with heavy use. My only real gripe with it so far is I want to remap the bixby button to launch the camera. I think that would be perfect...Hope you guys are having fun with your new toys like I am
I've found it to be pretty snappy! I love the iris scanning, it works even with my glasses on. It is actually really easy to use one handed, with a rare supporting off hand assist.
The screen is of course impressive.
I've had 3 occasions where I needed to reboot the device because either an app refused to load. Play Store once, setting TW as my launcher (I was using Nova on my S7E so after smart switch when I pressed the home key it asked which launcher to set as default) and then trying to enable "Ok Google" where it didn't hear me. As an early adopter, I expect that there may be possible hiccups.
Not crazy about lock screen music player...Wish there were other options for that... Seems like I have to make sure I'm hitting exactly in the right spot to skip songs.
Becomes a bit of a annoyance when having to hit the button repeatedly to switch a song...
I'm currently at work and I have 4 bar signal while in the basement. My Note 7, S7, LG V20 got 2-3 or no bars. I'm extremely happy due to this. More to follow and im glad i got it.
took forever for Iris scanner to register my iris properly
Its a great phone overeall.
Fast and great looking screen. Feels really good in the hand.
I got the s8 plus and im able to access everything on the phone.
The fingerprint sensor works. I can have the phone in my right hand and press the power with my thumb and finger on the sensor.
The home key took a bit to get use to. I wasnt pushing on it like i should.
Gui/OS has some nice changes, that makes things faster or easier to do.
Bixiy isnt useful at all. Maybe once its update it will work better. But on a sids note i havent Accidentally hit the button. So thats good.
The obly complain i would have a bout the phone that some apps dont fit full screen. You can force them but then the sides get cut off.
I know its an Aspect rataio that should be fix in updates of those apps.
And ill have to test but i think the speaker is lower volume then the s7e. But not sure yet.

I haven't updated it yet, so I was stil able to use the "All in one Gesture" app that was discussed on XDA before official release.
My second day impressions are pretty much spot on with @TheAnarchist1. This is hands-down the snappiest phone I have ever used. The screen is brilliant, and this version of Touchwiz is (finally) excellent. I've seen lot of features that the other launchers have had for years. I usually install Nova immediately, but this time I'm rolling with stock. I also was able to remap the Bixby button to Google Assistant with no problem.
My only issue (so far) is with the always-on screen. I've had two pocket dials and responded to a text with gibberish while the device was in my front pocket. Clearly, that's not going to work. I'll probably have to turn it off.
Just got mine going.
Design is pretty good, however, I think personally I would have preferred they stick with the sharper corners from the Note 7 and less rounded screen like the Note 7. Basically make the Note 7 but with smaller top and bottom bezels and this screen size. This is fine though, here's to hoping for the Note 8.
Obviously the fingerprint sensor on the back. Would have been exceptional for the fingerprint sensor to be built into the screen as rumored, but I don't particularly think this placement is much worse than any other fingerprint sensor that is on the back of the phone. I've mapped fingers from both hands, and when two handed, I find my left pointer rests on the sensor so it is kinda nice in some regard. I use smart location and bluetooth device unlocks a lot, so I avoid unlocking for the most part, at home, in vehicle, running with headphones, etc... Iris scanner is very useful, most of the time, but it can be awkward. Haven't tried facial recognition.
I see SIGNIFICANT improvement to Touchwiz and now they finally get at least some customization options. I'm trying to make it work, but a couple hours in, I'm already itching to switch back to Nova launcher. Small little peeves, but overall, it finally looks good, and has enough customization that I don't think the Samsung launcher is too bad. I really wish they would stop loading messengers for Verizon and Samsung, to which Samsung's is un-disable-able. Samsung makes special customization and actions for theirs, but I still don't want to use a manufactures messenger. Google brand for me.
1. So far, I'm amazed how well the iris scanner works and it is totally a fingerprint substitution. The battery life is simply amazing imo, I'm using it to the phone quite frequently in fact I have been browsing the web and using all sorts of social media the past hour. I should say I've only dropped about 8%, I'm genuinely pleased.
2. Performance is snappy, I haven't come across "real" lag (arbitrary statement). Coming from a note 4, TouchWiz has greatly been optimized and made much smoother.
3. 4gs of ram sounds like a little in 2017 but it's holding up like a champ!
4. So far I'm just in awe how great this phone is just to hold. I was scared the s8+ would be too big, but it fits perfect in the hand and is comfortable to use.
I can update this post as time goes by, but so far I only have a few gripes and some are not of the phone itself but the software:
1. I was upset when I was forced to go from the Note 7 back to the S7 edge due to the battery issues ( Twice! ) and was upset again when the s7 did not have the option of showing your calendar events listed on the Always On screen and instead just had the full month calendar. Eventually it was updated and gained that capability, but now, the S8 is the same way! I am an attorney and always have somewhere to be or someone coming by so it was nice just to look at my phone and know what was coming up without having to unlock it to check my calendar. Not a biggie, just annoying that a new phone is without that option.
2. The screen ration thing does look annoying sometimes. You can just tell that you have this big beautiful screen but almost everytime you turn it landscape there are black bars and your apps look the exact same as on the previous phone. Like I said, this is just the software thing and hopefully apps will catch up and start utilizing the larger screen more.
Otherwise, love the screen, love the speed. Wanted to stick with TouchWiz but I have a thing about the bottom of the screen not being available and the limitations of the 5x5 setup so I went back to Solo Launcher where I can hide the notification panel and dock at the bottom which makes this big screen look even bigger! More native customization of the home screen closer to home replacements such as that is what Touchwiz has been missing for a long time.
My initial impressions on my S8+:
1. It's incredibly fast. Snappier than any Samsung phone I've ever had or would ever expect them to produce. Loading time doesn't even exist for most apps, and the various animations seem much better than their older phones - the phone's performance reminds me more of the One plus 3T than an S7.
2. Battery life is really impressive. It looks like it might have the best battery life of any phone I've ever owned, which is particularly impressive considering it's a bigger screen and a smaller battery than the S7E.
3. The fingerprint scanner placement isn't quite as bad as people would lead you to believe. I haven't accidentally touched my camera lens once. However, it is a not too high up on the phone, which leads me to only touching it with half my finger, leading to it not unlocking. If they had located the entire set up a little lower on the device, it would've been fine.
4. The S8+ is a little too tall for my liking. It's practically impossible to reach the top opposite corner when using it with one hand. Obviously, activating one handed mode is one solution, but I really hope with flagships switching to 18:9 ratios, developers start moving any and all buttons to the lower half of their apps.
First impression, absolutely fabulous phone. Why ist the small cores maximum freq disabled?
Other than AT&T sent me the wrong color (You had one job...) I LOVE the phone. Coming from a Nexus 6P this thing is INSANE.

I got a chuckle from that because someone asked me in another thread if the charger would work with the phone in landscape position. BTW, nice review.
Just set it up. My only gripe is so far is I wish Samsung used Google version of restore data. I connected it to my Pixel and it copied everything but data. I guess the app wasn't able to do it. So having to manually download all my apps sucked.

Upgrading from Z5C, some concerns.

Hello,
Someone broke my Z5C and I'm now looking for a new phone.
I liked the form factor of the Z5C, but several things were "mehhh".
First of all, the fingerprint scanner wasn't working under certain conditions. I read here and there that it was mostly fixed and that the XC fingerprint sensor is much more accurate. Can you confirm ?
Secundo, the phone was overheating A LOT. I guess it had to do with the SoC. Is it fixed ? I don't know if it was related, but my phone randomly lagged (and would sometime reboot for no reason).
The amount of RAM was clearly not sufficient as apps would need to be restarted completely during multitasking.
Also, the screen was just "ok" for me. How deep are the blacks on the XC?
How slow is the camera to open? It was really unreliable on the Z5C for me. Can you turn off the "photo enhancement" feature that slows down the whole thing?
Concerning rooting, mods, etc.: I don't care about customizing if the ROM is good. The only thing I want is a root access. Is this something we achieve without losing any functionality on Nougat ?
And last concern... how often do you see people complaining about defective units ?
You've been using this device for several months now... so you should been able to tell me how well it survived!
I really want to love this phone, but tell me if there's anything you don't like about it!
Thank you in advance!
Stick with your Z5C, that's the phone I wish I'd have bought instead of this. In future I'll always opt for older premium over newer mid range.

Thank you for your answer.
Can you tell me what's wrong with your XC?
Because I don't know if I had a defective unit or not, but overall I wouldn't recommend the Z5C for the reasons I gave in my OP.
I've had my ZC for about 2 months now and it's my favorite phone to date. Got tired of the huge screen phones, my last being the oneplusone.
The fingerprint scanner only works if you flash the uk firmware from what I've seen. I have not gotten around to it yet so I can't say how well it work but from my reading everyone says it works well.
I have had 0 overheating issues. It barely gets warm.
Honestly I love this phone. It's fast, has every feature I wanted and is the form factor I wanted also.
The ONLY thing I really hate about this phone is sony made it out of the slipperiest material on earth, but with a case/skin that goes away.

Can't comment on everything but I can answer a couple.
First off the phone doesn't over heat, ever. It may get a little warm at times but that's only if playing a ton of videos. And when I say a ton I mean from 100% battery down to zero. The Z5C chipset has always had heat issues. Granted it's not Sony's fault all phones had heat issues that used the 810. That's why Qualcomm was so quick to move away from the 810 back in the day when it first released. The XC uses a 650 which is basically the same thing as the 810 but it doesn't overheat. That being said it also has an extra gig of ram compared to the Z5C so it's a little snappier too imo. Granted the Z5C and the XC are both very close to one another.
I have never had an issue with the fingerprint sensor on the XC. As stated above you will need to flash the UK firmware to get it to work though. Has something to do with a patent dispute between Sony and whoever in the US at the moment.
Overall you can't go wrong either way. It sounds like you had a lot of issues with your Z5C so switching to the XC is probably worth a shot as it has dropped in price quite a bit since release. I have had mine since late October and haven't had an issue with it so far. Plus I am willing to bet the Z5C is coming to an end as far as Android updates go as to where the XC should at the very least get a bump up to 7.1 at some point if not more.

The colour first of all, it's blue, not Universe "Black", the icon on the power button is upside down, can't connect wireless to my PC and curved edges that makes applying a screen protector a real PITA.

The icon on the z5c is exactly the same, for what it's worth.
We have both xc and z5c. I lean towards the xc because it lasts longer per charge. It also seems to run cooler. It doesn't look as nice as the z5c, but I am not as worried about damaging it
I had a z5c, and switched to XC back in sep 2016, every 'issue' you mention has been fixed on XC. The fingerprint sensor is better, so is the screen. It would be odd otherwise.
The biggest flav of the z5c though is the a57 cores (the performance cluster of z5c) is the first 64bit soc rushed out to complete with apple that had just released their 64bit soc and lets be honest this core is notorious for overheating, my raspberry pi uses 4 of them too and both can not sustain their highest clock without getting insanely hot and throttle back the clock. I realize this only happens if you play games or do a synthetic stress test, use poorly coded apps like Facebook etc, most normal os operation only produces spikes which keeps the throttling down. Imho this is a horrible core compared with the a72. The power efficiency is also as you can imagine way better, I get alot more out of a single charge on this phone than I did with the z5c and it never gets hot, maybe a little handwarm if you play games or keep the screen on for hours like watching several movies. Nowhere near the z5c which was worryingly at times.
That's not to say I did not like the z5c but overall the XC is a great improvement in any aspect just as it is supposed to be.

Have you ever looked up at night ? Its not completely black either, its like a blackisblue. Furthermore I like it inside its black and outside you can see a different very dark blue color depending from which angle the light hits it. I am pretty sure it is on purpose and why its called universe black. I agree whether you like it or not is another matter.

Care to elaborate? Because like this guy I could not find an option in my phone either. This is the official answer from sony:
The feature to transfer files using Media transfer mode via Wi-Fi® has been removed in the Xperia™ Z4 Tablet and the Xperia™ Z5 series. Moreover, the Media transfer mode will not be available in Xperia™ Companion, the new tool that is replacing PC Companion, because Windows® 8.1 has removed the trigger menu.

Thank you everyone for your answers! You would be very good salesmen!
The Z5C was a bad experience, but I hope that this one will last me as long as my Nexus 4 did!
I bought it from a third-party seller on Amazon and should receive it in 2 weeks.
Also, I wanted to buy the black one at first... but the white one was cheaper, so I went for it (and I may even like it more in the end).
the camera opens in around 1 sec, 0.6 sec according to sony btw. I also dislike the photo enhancement that takes forever to apply and sharpen the image even on zxs. this is because sony decided to not use the performance cluster in the album app (I have no idea what they bumped their heads into) but as you I do not like it anyway as it over sharpens pictures and is way to aggressive. thankfully it can be disabled and pictures sharpen normally up in a instant, if I want to add more pow or adjust the colors etc I use a tool designed for that, usually i find the photo editor to be sufficient.
Good luck. I hope it serves you well. Initially i was sceptic too until I actually used it. (ie not just standing in a store flicking back and forth in the demo mode)
I didnt have time to read other comments but let me share my experience with you
Im a guy who changes phone after phone and a heavy android user but because I like to change phones I mostly buy good midrangers.
anyway this is the only phone that I have used it for more than 6 months( its almost 9) beside xperia sp some years ago.
The design really feels good in hand - but it gets scratches very easily so u might wanna look for a back protector or cover.
The performance is liquid smooth you are not gonna see any lags only if its app related, but I wished it was a better processor anyway.
Screen quality is super awesome you will enjoy looking at it every single time you use it.
Cpu have never went more than 45 C degrees but keep in mind that its a 28nm processor.
battery life is good goes up to 2 days with normal use
app loadings speed is perfect havent seen any better phone in this price range
fingerprint sensor is very good gets your id even with a little touch
speakers are not that good I can say that and Im noticing some wizzing noises sometimes...
in the end I really suggest you to buy it cause its way better than z5c and dont buy it only if you would go for XZ premium!
Just watch out for defective units there seem to be more than normal...
---------
Edit: I forgot to say the phone is waterproof I tested it myself but no body will answer you if you damage it because its not official...

Overall love

Yes, yes, it's possible to love a phone. Heck, you sleep next to it, don't you? Rate this thread to indicate your love for the Motorola Razr (2019), all things considered. A higher rating indicates that the Motorola Razr (2019) is an incredible phone that you enjoy tremendously. You love it.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Just watched the video, looks amazing. But somehow it didn't seem like the specs were superior. I love the concept, and I think it's an innovative design that should pick up interest due to the compact nature of the device, but I have concerns about the build quality and performance. In the video, after it is flipped open, you can see briefly a bend in the screen, which makes me wonder if it smoothes out when all the way open. Also, the camera seemed sluggish when using the shake gesture, unless it was designed to have (what I thought was) a noticable delay. The processor speed, the battery size/performance, are things I'm hoping will prove to be above average, to amazing. We shall see.
Oh, also not stoked about it being carrier locked. Not to mention the $1499 price tag.... Yikes!
This its true.
The price is unreasonably high.
I know that some months passed, and meanwhile other flipphones made their path aiming at our pockets & wallets, but I am still enloved of this phone...
I know it's a bad thing, it's overpriced, the specification does not justify this purchase, but I am still waiting for a good chance to put in in my rear pocket.
So far I love mine. Coming from a Note 10+ the only issues I've notice screen color isn't as rich as the Note 10+. But it's not bad either.
Performance is fine. Apps take maybe a half second longer to load, if that. No real sluggishness that I've been able to notice.
Another thing is lack of wireless charging is kinda a bummer, but I just bought a quick charge compatible dock I slide it onto at night.
Battery life is actually good. I typically still have about 30-40% left at the end of a full day.
Granted most of my battery usage is playing free cell on the toilet at work.
Edit: One thing I do think Moto dropped the ball on is when I had a Z2 Force I could use gestures with the fingerprint sensor to operate the back, home and task manager. Once you enabled this it also removed them from the screen unless you were using the fingerprint sensor for security.

Using the one button navigation on the fingerprint scanner isn't allowed for devices which use google mobile services and Android 9. A lot of lost features are because of the requirements that Google puts on device makers and which versions of Android they are ship with. Everyone clamoring for the latest Android doesn't realize that certain options are OS dependent. Image how much less you'd have to physically interact with the screen if you could use the fingerprint navigation. I am sure older prototypes had that enabled but it got disabled as Android versions changed

If you want to go through https://source.android.com/compatibility and see the requirements for devices that launch with a certain OS and devices that update to a certain OS you'll see what I mean. The Z2 Force launched with Nougat and was upgraded to Pie. The rules for how a device is expected to behave when launching with an OS level and when upgrading to an OS level are different. Google didn't mandate things about it's gesture navigation back in Nougat so Motorola was able to implement it as they wished. Required apps at one OS release are different at another. This is one reason why I'm not keen on being first to have the latest android level since things you might enjoy (like Moto Voice) are gone in later releases.

OnePlus 8 Pro - QA Recall - user request!

Do you think that OnePlus 8 pro should be recalled due to quality issues? Please vote on top of the page.
- Reason number 1 - Display: color shift, green tint, black bar form punch hole
- Reason number 2 - waterproof issue
-
I don't think a recall is wanted for OP ( or any manufacturer ) we all have warranty and can claim it when issues surface like you described.
My device isn't suffering any of the issues you mentioned though I must admit I didn't drown my device to see if it's ip68 water resistant.
I do like to add a third point to your poll
3: they should fix issues like 5G, dual SIM, Google AR and PhotoChrom ( and others in forgetting ) as these were selling points they didn't deliver (yet )
So far my device is not having issues...
Not one issue at all.
A resounding no I'd say.
Issues aren't prevalent on a high % of devices, it's a small % of devices affected, no more than any other phone. Probably less.
I didn't received newest update, but if they did nerfed IR camera than massive recall should happen, we did pay for that peace of hardware and they're removing it now.... They can't fix things, and they're just making this phone worst... I am fully disappointed in this phone and manufacturer, they are not capable to compete versus other flagships, just buy OnePlus up to 500$ and you should be fine (I hope so).
Oneplus 8 Pro is the worst flagship phone that I ever had, basically no support at all, slow development, etc.

So you're telling me you bought the phone just for an IR camera? Then has to be the silliest thing I've ever heard. All you need to do is root your device and you can go back to an earlier version of the operating system or you can just install the magisk mod that makes the camera operable again. By the way I have had my phone in the pool and in the ocean so as my wife. Had sand all over it and it even overheated a few times but it was 90-plus degrees outside. You must have gotten another or something perhaps a refurb?

I am OEM user - so No root, no additional applications that will add some functionality,
camera is not important for me, for me the most important is user interface, screen, performance and battery.
Performance are TOP
Battery is TOP
Screen is garbage (I don't care if other brands have "problems" with 120hz OLED screens) I do have a problem! screen during the night is TRASH
User interface is not in class of flagship device, it's in class of mid range "flagship wanna be" phone, I had to disable almost every single status bar icon (they are ugly as ****)
Do you think that is normal to have LED light around punch hole camera and not to have notification light out it ? (your answer: please root phone and you will have it... LOL I did pay for premium device, not for developer edition device).

You bought the phone without knowing about Oxygen? It's the fastest and must fluid UI out there. If you wanted to be bloated with a ton of features you won't use, pick up a Galaxy device. That's just not what OnePlus is. People buy OnePlus because the the exceptional hardware and closer to stock Android experience. That's exactly what we got with the OnePlus 8 Pro
