How to update S8+ from ATT outside the US

Hi everyone! I bought an unlocked S8+ from a friend and I'm using it outside the US and I haven't been able to update it, I still got the April security patch. Does anyone know a way to update it. I have already tried to update through settings and it shows that it's update to the last version, even though is not true. Any help will be really appreciated. Thanks!

Anybody has any idea when Galaxy S8 & S8+ SM-G950U1/G955U1 will receive OREO update?

You shouldn't worry a lot about oreo. I've installed it on s7e. Nothing new. I would mich better appreciate samsung to stop smoking and unlock bootloaders rather than bringing same os just with higher number.

I recive oreo today in my galaxy s8 plus SM-G955U1

Now with cream filling....
Just downloaded Oreo and installed. I had it set to automatically download but it didn't. I decided to check just 30 minutes ago on a whim before this post and it was there.

Yeap, downloaded and here we are. Let's see how it goes.

Do not update android Oreo on SM-G950U1!!
I'm not sure if I am the only one that happens this but after installing the last update on my Samsung Galaxy S8 SM-G950U1 the phone stop working and falls into an infinite bootlooping.
I had to enter into recovery screen to be able to turn off the device.
Then I tried to fix this flashing the phone with the last firmware (the same one of the last update) because I thought that there might be a problem when I was downloading the update and the phone didn't turn on, it continues with the bootloop.
The only solution I found is to download a previous version (I installed the one released on December 2017) and flash the phone with that firmware and the phone works perfect!
It is embarazing that Samsung has released another OTA that briks the phones!

On the S8 Oreo (and prior OS) every time I update apps, which is all the time, the updating moves all app data from the SD card back to phone memory. I tested this with Samsung on the phone and they took over my phone and saw my Kindle data (400mb) was on the SD card, then updated the Kindle app and rechecked and the data had all been moved back to internal phone memory. They said an update resets all apps to default and that is normal. Uh, no spending hours a month moving data around is not normal. What is the point of having an SD card if what you put on it doesn't stay on it?

is the SM-950U unlocked for any carrier?
I have a Galaxy S8 SM-950U and using it on T-Mobile.
I tried a foreign SIM card and it said that my device can be unlocked remotely .
1) how do I unlock it?
2) How do I check the lock and unlock the bootloader
3) how I install a ROM (such as Galaxy S9 ROM (with the funny interractive avatars) ?

I got the update in mid feburary i guess

I'd rather have Nougat back, Oreo feels like a concentration camp, not very exciting one.

My understanding is that Essential has made Android 8.1 available as an OTA update to all phones at this point.
But every time I check for an update, it says that I have the latest at 7.1.1
I am on Sprint, but it's my phone, not purchased through Sprint.
Is this common, or do I have a unique problem?

Everyone i know with PH1 got the OTA to 8.1 within a week of it being released, so i think it's a Sprint issue even though you got the phone yourself.

I'm pretty certain I read that Sprint customers got the 8.1 update like everybody else. You might want to contact Essential support to see if they have any recommendations. I'm assuming you've rebooted your phone at some point. Sometimes that's necessary before an update will show up. Hopefully Essential has a solution where you don't need to factory reset your phone but that might end up being your only option.
Just a tip in case you do end up doing a factory reset. It's a much better idea to choose the give your phone a fresh start option instead of restoring your phone from a Google Cloud backup. The cloud backup restores app and system data and can actually restore whatever was causing an issue on your phone.

Sprint needs to approve every update, so if they have not done so, that is why you have not received 8.1.
Manually flashing the latest 8.1 is the way to go. After doing this you will get all updates directly from Essential instead of Sprint.

I guess that's true. This is from the Essential site:
"Phone not downloading latest software update
When Essential releases a new software update, it will be available to all Essential Phones, except those using certain cellular networks.
Currently, devices on all networks except Sprint and TELUS will receive instant software updates (related article: Updating your phone's software).
Sprint and TELUS perform additional testing and verification at the time of our release, and will make the updates available to their customers once complete."

Yup... I'm with Telus and wasn't getting the update notification. I ended up swapping my Telus SIM card with a Roam Mobility SIM card, and then connected over wifi. I checked for the update again, and this time it appeared. For a small update (125MB), it took nearly 20 minutes to install.

As it happens, the 8.1 update came through for me a couple of days ago.

Anyone get official Oreo 8.0 for SM-G935U Unlocked variants? I mean it seems every other carrier is pushing their Oreo already, even the Exynos model ones got Oreo, was there no love for us with USA unlocked models?

I'm waiting for the official update too. Btw have you tried flashing the G935T Oreo firmware? I've tried the G935A firmware and scrolling and overall performance feels unrefined compared to nougat.

same its been 3 months till oreo came but still no updates for g935u well this is annoying .p

I contacted Samsung support and they said there were issues with it, so the developers are going to fix them all before Oreo is released to the SM 935U.

Finally a update . I was beginning to wonder since the S8+s [g955u1] already had 3 unlocked firmware's with Oreo and the S9+s [g965u1] having one. Now the next is to find out what Binary version the unlocked Oreo firmware's will have since Sprints stock Oreo Firmware [g935p] has a Binary 6.

I got one this evening! Still downloading...

I updated my unbranded SM-G935U yesterday, and it has permanently disabled my WiFi! Nothing fixes it, Samsung support refer me to a service center. Tired of Samsung problems tbh. Definately getting Pixel3 when it comes out! Just gotta chug along until then without WiFi -.-

I got the update two days ago. No issues at all.

Flashed the t mobile oreo firmware on july 4th when it came out and then flashed the g935u firmware as soon as it came out. Gotta say I love oreo on this device. it makes the phone so much faster and adds so many great features! ?
Does anyone think it will receive the android 9.0 update as well?

Yes. When I first factory reset it, I did it from inside Android. That did not resolve the WiFi issue. My next step was to reboot into recovery and factory reset the phone that way (format data/chache). Still did not work.
I re-installed Nougat through ODIN, and my WiFi works perfectly. I set my updates to manual this time, and will not update to Oreo. I only have to get by until October, then I can get my Pixel 3.

I had a problem after I installed the oreo. Maybe just a coincidence but after about 30 mins of installing the update, I got the grey lines on the screen. Saw some people had same problems even before the oreo. I tried going back to nougat and it is still there.

At&t Samsung s10 plus not updating in Canada

I have At&t samsung s10 plus wont do any updates from Canada, im stuck with android 9 the o.s it came with,every time i try to update it tells me its up to date.
Smart Switch is no help it tells me phone is up to date also
any way around this?

I had updated at&t s7 and s8 in past in Canada and recently update Verizon s10 5g to andriod 10 in Canada.
you can try update on different wifi network or clear catche and try a update, else you can do it by Odin easily.

Maybe it hasn't been pushed to your device yet, there are plenty of people out there that haven't received the update yet.
If you don't have the patience to wait, then I suggest using Odin to update it manually.

I tried a Wipe Cache Partition still gives me the same message (Current software is up to date) odin might be the only way to go.

You do understand that it can take several weeks to receive an update once released? Every company does a rolling update so it only hits so many devices at a time just in case there are reports of severe issues, they can pull it. You don't know which server your device for an update is sitting on with AT&T.
Patience is the key where updates are concerned, and it's better to sit back and see what the issues are over having to get the latest and greatest buggy software on your device instantly.

here the steps for newbs like me who have this issue...
i used https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=6006931924117912211 version of Odin and https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/g...SM-G975U1/XAA/download/G975U1UES3CTA3/314963/ flash files. (power off) Power + Volume down+ Bixby puts phone in dowloadmode.
so far so good Andriod 10 is installed/security up date, ill wait for the next ota update.

It wiped everything that AT&T had placed on the phone, the apps that are on my phone now are standard google apps
its as if the phone came from Samsung, no affiliation with any cellphone company.

I think what he is asking if it cleared all your apps that you already had installed and all your data.... Not the kind of apps you now you have.
XSP update isn't available yet for 10, it was then it disappeared which tells me it was pulled by Samsung most likely due to some issues.

The Android 10 update is now available again for XSP, just got it yesterday

I live in Canada and I've an unlocked Samsung galaxy S10+ and I've yet to receive the latest updates. My last update was December 1st and it was G975FXXSEFUL1. I don't even have the security patch for January or February NO updates yet for 2022.. I am a life long Samsung buyer and after this stall and potentially leaving me open to infiltration I'm not amused and will be trying a Apple for the 1st time, BYE BYE SAMSUNG THE BLUES
