Request to Xiaomi to release the kernel source from Redmi Note 2

Hi buddies, i create a petition to Xiaomi for release the kernel source.

I guess its useless since it isnt a responsability of Xiaomi but Mediatek
Signed ?
I really don't think that releasing kernel source is up to mediatek right now. Simple example is the HTC's One E9, same SoC. On HTCdev site the kernel source is available for free and for everyone. How is that possible?

As said @nasko_spasko. How to Xiaomi did can build the kernel without source??

Of course they have it, but Im pretty sure that its illegal for them to release it, since the owner is Mediatek not Xiaomi. Its like if you buy a software for comercial purpouse, it doesnt mean that youre the owner of it and you cant resell it. Here is the same, Xiaomi bought Helio X10 SoC to include it in their phones, and obviously they have source code and permissions to use it, but that doesnt mean they can resell it, or release it to people, they would get involved in serious legal problems.

Linux Kernel is under GNU GPL license so no legal problems... Mediatek are a very stupid people... Too the code is modified by Xiaomi, so isn't the original/genuine code of MTK...

Yep, but Mediatek isnt the only one, Samsung also keeps their Exynos code in secret, Huawei with Kirin SoC too, etc. And yep, Linux is free, but... there so many things included in a kernel, it includes system programs that manage an OS, but also includes drivers to comunicate the OS with the hardware (SoC for example), AND are those drivers wich doesnt belong to Linux kernel nor Android OS, that code depends of the hardware manufacturer and they doesnt have any obligation of borrowing it, so if you dont have code drivers you just have an incomplete kernel, AND thats the problem everyone faces with Mediatek

Someone can share it on 4pda and chinese forums?

Mediatek didn't release nothing, the code was leaked but it wasn't useful because it wasn't customised by Xiaomi with drivers.
So Xiaomi have to pay Mediatek in order to get the permission to publish the code
Mediatek must be doing something illegal, violating Qualcomm or some other patents without paying them. That's why they don't want to share their code.

is it necesary to be agresive? or are you just a kid :silly:?... And as I said some post ago... Xiaomi doesnt have any responsability of doing that, and maybe they dont have enough rights to release it, and if what you say is true, then those codes must work on ours RN2 since is exactly the same SoC (System on a Chip), this means they must be using same drivers even if they are different phones, since everything is included in the SoC (modem, wifi, display driver, etc.). Maybe Xiaomi uses its own code for MIUI, but thats not necesary for building an AOSP ROM or a CM ROM.
Im not a developer, and Im sure you neither, Im just saying what is obvious for me but I accept I might be wrong.

as I said, screen is included in a SoC (must be), buttons are all the same in Android, just camera and IR blaster might be a problem, but not big enough to not build a ROM. Anyways, an IR blaster isnt such a big problem to handle with, I have worked with them, you dont need special drivers or something like that . And camera... Xiaomi didnt build it, so I guess its a problem of the SoC... So, the problem is from Mediatek, like everything we are talking about here, and if its true that theres codes already released of Helio X10, then all this shouldn´t be a problem, even this post wouldnt have any sense.

Hey , why there is no custom roms for nokia 5

NOKIA is based in Stock and there are many Nokia 5 user . Why there is no one to make custom rom for nokia 5
The bootloader is locked. Probably there won't be any since the device is one year old. The stock android was the reason I bought the device, but I won't make the same mistake again.
Nokia released source code for 5.1 but bootloaders are still locked, so nothing yet unfortunately.

No dev interested in porting any ROMs for the 2017 Nokia 6?

I just bought this device and thought "YES" I will pop over to XDA and see what's cooking here. I see there's an official twrp but no roms or kernels now am not trying to be cheeky or anything like that because I haven't got a clue on how to compile anything but surely their is a fantastic dev out there that's interested in doing some work to this fantastic device.?
This fantastic device still has no official bootloader unlock. No unlock, no ROMs.
https://www.nokia.com/phones/en_int/bootloader
It can be unlock unofficial. This is enough to start developing something for this phone.
Whether kernel (kernel sources are open) or ROM.
Even if it is not unlocked for everyone, at least for those who have been unlocked a bootloader.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot>fastboot flashing get_unlock_ability

I downgrade my bootloader by flashing older ota updare (for example december 2017), after that i flash unlocked bootloader with this tutorial - https://forum.xda-developers.com/nokia-6/how-to/guide-how-to-flash-custom-recovery-root-t3702354
See step two. In "Attached Files" is unlocked bootloader. Download from it and flash.
After all i flash rom and anything is perfect.
You can see how i root my phone in this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/nokia-6/help/nokia-6-rooting-t3865952
It is for TA-1033 model and i'm not sure that it will work on another nokia 6 models.
Maybe unlocked bootloader work on any Nokia 6 (2017)..
Any custom ROM needs a target audience, and this audience needs an easy way to unlock. No developer will wait for 1.5-2 years until HMD provides official unlock, developing for himself and a dozen of users makes no sense. There are plenty of devices having official unlocks from the release date like Xiaomi or Sony.

Phone supports treble and AB partitioning. You can probably flash a GSI from the project treble forums.

Does flashing a gsi is as safe as flashing a custom rom.
And after flashing gsi is it possible to revert back to official android one(pie)????????

a GSI (Generic System Image) is just a fancy term for a custom ROM system image for project treble enabled devices
And in theory, this phone supports the A/B partitioning (apparently, according to treble check app), you can try flashing to the other partition and set it as active?
Besides, I think you can flash the stock images if you can find them too.
Although, obviously this means you need to unlock your bootloader. Which of course voids warranty, etc, etc.
Yupp if any developer will take interest and nokia release source code.

Nokia have released the source code, so dev could possibly create a AOSP rom for the 6.1 plus and other source codes for other Nokia's are also available. https://nokiapoweruser.com/nokia-7-1-and-nokia-6-1-plus-kernel-source-code-now-available-for-download/
All we need now is a way to unlock the bootloader officially. Hopefully it happens this year. Nokia keeps saying stay tuned and watch their facebook page for updates on bootloader unlocking, so it should happen eventually.

Pixel Experience Port (Need Sources Code)

Hello Guys after a lot of search i decided to port a pixel Experience Android Pie Rom for Nokia 5
But first I Need Nokia 5 Sources Code
CAN ANYONE PROVIDE THE SOURCES CODE.
HMD Global still not release it for Nokia 5. But what I know, is that the Moto G3 has the same specs as Nokia 5. Can we use it to replace the Nokia 5 source code?
Be ready coz i started port miui 10 theme
And i am 100% sure that i can make bug free rom
Rom will be ready for flashing before 5 Jan.

Sorry! But can I know how to do that? I really want to learn about porting and building rom. But I don't know how to begin.
After port miui 10 rom for nokia 5. I will guide you how to port.
Thank you! It will be better if you make a video, or we chat together
Is Pixel Experience even worth on such a phone? I think we're more in need of LineageOS, no? ;s
So you are porting two roms?

stop giving us a fake hope like HMD did. it's already 8th january 2019.
Bro I'm port rom as well as testing the rom myself and cheking every bug. Thats why i take more time
But trust me i m try to provide this rom fully stable.
Can we use Nokia 6's source code and roms since it has the same hw like Nokia 5?
I'm porting the rom not build rom .as i know in porting rom case not required kernal sources
Waiting for this custom rom
Why HMD Global not release Nokia 5 source code? Of we can use Nokia 6 source code for Nokia 5?
If you have updated to android pie on your Nokia 5 ,
Since Nokia phone have stock Android experience ,
You just need to install the pixel 3 launcher port ,
XDA link :- https://www-xda--developers-com.cdn...launcher-google-assistant-search-bar-pixel-3/ , I don't know if this work on Oreo , it works great on my Nokia 5

The only bad thing is that when you go into the overview you can't see the apps at the bottom which is annoying and the stock launcher cannot be disabled so it runs in the background and uses up memory
