Can't send any messages to a particular number - Xiaomi Mi A1 Questions & Answers

I fastbooted my device 4-5 days back. Ever since, I can't send SMS to a particular number. smsc is blank. On Jio, I tried refreshing smsc. It gave me a value. But after I reopen the option, it was blank again. And tried from my airtel as well. I was getting refreshing error. So, I call Jio care and they told me that smsc is not possible on my device. And called Airtel as well. They gave me smsc number. But after entering the smsc number, when I try to update it, I'm getting update error. Also, clearing the data of messaging app works for once. Whenever I need to send any message to that particular number, I have to clear data of the messaging app. Only than I can send a single sms. After that, it's the same thing again. If I need to send sms again, I'll have to clear data again. I tried other messaging apps to. They can't even send a single sms. Checked the recipient's number. I'm not in the block list. And everything is ok with the number.
Any fix for this problem ???

G1 on ATT network - SMS not sent (SOLVED)

I purchased a G1 from craigslist. Turned out it was an ADP device. I updated the recovery image, updated to Haykuro SPL, and Cyanogen ROM.
Everything worked except that SMS messages would not send... (I didn't try MMS messages).
I checked and double checked everything. ON another forum I found advice to acquire access to some Phone Info settings using "ANYCUT" - a free app.
Create a shortcut to your desktop using ANYCUT: Shortcuts>Activity>Phone info.
The above suggestion stated to use the above shortcut to turn off - then, back on - the phone's radio. That did not work for me. Also, in that shortcut was a space for a SMSC - whatever that was.
I called ATT and spoke to a knowledgeable associate who asked if my SMSC had been set and what was my number. I remembered seeing the SMSC setting in the above shortcut. I was provided with the ATT SMSC number for an HTC device for my area as "+13123149810" I used the above shortcut to enter the number and selected "update"
This solved my problem.
If you have similar problem I would suggest attempting the above. Call your provider and ask for the correct SMSC and enter it in using the above method.
I observed several posts on various forums where persons where told to go get a new sim card. I don't know if that would work or not. But, it was not necessary in my case.
Thank you for the post!
This worked for me.
My ulocked G1 was working fine with Cyanogen 4.0.4. I upgraded to 4.2.1 and lost my ability to send and receive SMS messages.
I followed your instructions, but for some reason I lost my 3g when I opened the Phone Info via the AnyCut link. I changed to GSM only and got Edge, at least. Guess I need to play with it more.
Anyway, I'm on the STC aljawal network here in Saudi Arabia. (Jawalnet) using an unlocked G1 and sending and receiving SMS messages again. Yay!
If there happens to be anyone else having SMS issues, the number on the STC website is +966505031999
I think this is the SMSC number, because when I put it in the SMSC box on the Phone Info I was able to send SMS messages again.

where is the message setting number option

I have just found out that I can't send text messages, I can receive them just not send them. From talking to the phone company they have asked me to make sure my message setting number is correct but they couldn't tell me where it was and I couldn't find it.
Apparently this number is used when sending text, can anyone help by letting me know where this setting is.
I don't believe it is the rom or radio as since I found the issue I have been trying all types of roms and reverted my radio back down to 26I, no joy.
Currently I have CyanogenMod 5.0.8 installed

Dialing *#*#4636#*#* AKA *#*#INFO#*#* brings up a troubleshooting/statistics menu page. Dial that and select Phone information and at the bottom you can enter the SMSC (Short Mail Service Center) number. If the phone can receive but not send SMS it could be a carrier outage or issue 90% of the time. Morlin it is not risky to update the SMSC number. Kerorek gave the correct one for T-Mobile (12063130004). SMS is a voice issue and has nothing to do with data. Morlin try to update the SMSC number and powercycle the phone and test sending SMS.

for New Zealand the number is +6421600600
I had a similar issue some time ago. I remember trying to fiddle with various settings, but that didn't really do me any good.
I ended up wiping the phone and restoring all my SMS/Contacts/etc. Worked like a charm.
Just had this issue, after stupidly messing about in the very area I need to be in to fix it, ( pressed update smsc number with no number typed in, could receive messages, but not send them), full data+cache wipe did not fix this, nor did flashing other roms, since the SMSC reset wipes it from SIM I believe.
Looking up the correct SMSC number for my network and entering this fixed it however, and sms behaviour is back to normal.
So thanks for this, and remember folks, no matter how smart you think you are, all it takes is one stupid moment to remind you, you are just like everyone else

Another "sms cannot be sent" thread

I have HTC Wildfire rooted. I cannot send sms but i can receive them and make calls and receive them.
SMSC number is correct and i have tried even wrong ones.
I have tried hard reset and taking battery and SIM Card off.
I have tried different ROMs.
I have tried to restore from backup and use different messaging app.
I am from finland and my operator is Saunalahti.
Hopefully someone can help
I had the same thing once after an RUU install how I fixed it.
Apps>Messages>Menu>Settings>Service Centre Number= you must have a number in this field or you will not be able to send messages.
You can get in contact with your Phone provider to get their number. Or if you have a number it must be the right number for your company..
Hope this is of some help to you.

[HELP] My I8700 cannot use text message

It is a unlock 16G T-Mobile. I am using AT&T carrier. Everything is OK but cannot send or receive text message. I have tried to flash different roms but none of them are help. My sim card is OK as I test in another cell phone.
Any hint? This is really frustrating me.
Hey,
See to it that you change the SMS Centre number. Go to messages > settings > SMS Centre number and fill out "+19078319301". If that does not work, try "+13123149810".
Hope this helps you.

com.android.phone error when switching voicemail service from carrier to Google Voice

Anyone else use Google Voice as your voicemail service provider on the ZE551KL / Z00TD with firmware 1.16.40.763? And if so, do you also get the "Unfortunately the process com.android.phone has stopped" error message when changing the Service from "Your carrier" to "Google Voice"?
Best as I can figure, it's a bug in the system firmware, not an issue with GV. Under Call settings > Voicemail > Setup, you can change your VM number to GV and as long as you never change the Service option, GV works just fine (but you won't get notifications of new voicemail).
Also, I think this is somehow related to another issue I posted about (in the wrong sub-forum, though, and a mod never moved it) where messages (SMS or MMS) wouldn't come through unless I sent one first. Folks would send me messages and I'd never see them. They were never delivered and they didn't come in late. If I sent out a message, though, messages would come in just fine (doesn't matter who I sent it to, either). After a certain amount of time (not sure how much, but definitely overnight) or a phone reboot it's back to missing messages. None of this happens as long as I don't change the voicemail Service to GV.
I suppose the messages issue could be my carrier, though they worked with me several times to test the SMS/MMS issue and they see them as delivered on their end. I don't think the GV issue is my carrier. I have Cricket (AT&T MVNO) in the US. I'd appreciate hearing from anyone else who uses GV, see if you're having the same issue.
Okay, another symptom: I have to use the default ASUS text messaging apps or messages don't come through.
I have tried both Google Messenger and Textra. After setting as the default, I rebooted and had test messages sent to me. Nothing. Setting the ASUS app back to default and rebooting has messages coming through immediately (but I stil never received the ones that were sent before).
The default ASUS app reports the user's name and then "SIM 1", so I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the dual SIMs. Anyone using a different default SMS app?
