[DONATE to k4y0z] - BL UNLOCK / TWRP for Fire TV Stick 4k :
On the heels of a very successful HD10 2017 funding (link) & bootloader unlocking (link) campaign , let's start the same for Fire TV Stick 4k!
Please donate to @k4y0z if you want to see Fire TV Stick 4K fully unlocked! @k4y0z will use the funds to purchase 4k sticks, and more than 1 may be required depending on the required level of hardware tinkering & the number of bricks created in the process
And no, I do not get ANY commissions for this (other than the fun of using fully unlocked Amazon devices).

Thank you guys for donations! @k4y0z is committed to getting this done. He communicated that the slight delay is due to trying to catch 4k being on Fire sale in Europe.
It's just HD10 unlock happened so quickly that everybody's expectations got raised quite a bit.

4k sticks are on sale now for 35 euros, so good things will soon come to those who patiently waited
@k4y0z - please do your magic

Any updates on this? I'm planning on donating when I get paid next week. I'm benefiting greatly from your HD10 2017 hacking!

Yes, it was a post to keep the thread higher in the general post for advertising. I have donated. It was directed at those who want root and unlock, but do not contribute in any form.

Any updates? no rush, just curious....

If this helps, i shorted one of the pins and ran the script from the HD10 exploit.

Onlive microconsole hacking, sources freely available [marvell 88DE3010]

I received an onlive microconsole free from PAX solely for the reason of hacking (as did about 5000 others). My primary goal is to be able to put Google TV on it as it has very similar specs to some existing set top boxes. (Nixeus fusion xs, which also has sources available)
The source code for the consoles OS can be found here
http://opensource.onlive.com/
I poked around inside the zips and certainly contains all the drivers for generic linux. The interesting thing is they included the SoCs build folder giving instructions for android.
The kicker is, I have no idea how to build an OS from source and modify it nor do I know about getting it on to the machine. I took it apart and it has a block of 12 pins, which I presume are for nand reading and writing. I've glitched /jtagged a few 360s so I am familiar with the process of nand modifications, I just have no clue how to find out which pins to use on this board. The microconsole is keyboard and mouse compatible but I have not found a way to enter a terminal or bootloader.
The easiest thing to do is look for serial ports because with a serial connection you can most of the flash fw and stuff...
would help if you'd post some specs and pics

Try this nixeus.com/?p=171 .
Im also quite interested in what can become of this. Hell even drivers that would make the console version of the the controller work on a pc would be something.

Anything New man i really wanna find a use for this microconsole i dont like throwing Tech away
Has any more progress been made on this? I loved the OL service in it's prime and it'd be a shame to throw the microconsole away if there's any legitimate use for it.
I'm still digging to the code to verify what I can do with it but with 3 uart adapters not arriving I'm kind of at an impasse. I'm not done yet though I even bought an extra one off of ebay for $17 as an extra hardware in case I fry 1
+1 in hoping someone manages to get some other software running on it. would love to repurpose it as a Steam/shield streaming box
fingers crossed.
not enough people interested i guess, i mean it's no more than a thin client if im correct. either way if kodi + steamos could be installed great
So interseted in OnLive
keep the good work
i am also digging into the codes and have experience in GL low-level programming and high level
would be happy to share

(resolved) Amazon not giving source for Kindle HD 8.9"

Amazon finally made its act together. Thank you everybody who contacted them.
Amazon almost made available source to Kindle HD 8.9" on their site at http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custo...e=UTF8&nodeId=200203720&qid=1353523318&sr=1-1
When you try to get the http://kindle-src.s3.amazonaws.com/kindle_src_8.1.2_user_1211420.tar.gz file you'll get access denied, so the source is not really there.
I tried to resolve this with Amazon for almost a week now and I guess I can use your help in that.
If all of you go to kindle support (after verifying you still cannot get the source) and complain to them about this, they'll eventually agree to file a ticket with their tech team. The more of you who can do this the better.
If you complain a bit more about how this is very unacceptable for Amazon to not being able to correct this simple problem for so long (and I first contacted them on 18th), they might give you some free money:
$(Amazon Representative of the day):As an apology I have issued $10 promo in your account.

Please give it a try and I hope we can get it before the Thanksgiving hits, so some of us have more useful info to play with during this extended weekend.
Thanks.
I just went to the amazon website and its still the same as before. I have sent in an email with hopes that they reply as soon as possible. hopefully they resolve or do the same as before.

Just got a Fire TV today, rooted and running like a champ!

Hello!
Bought a Fire TV from Best Buy today on a whim, and was pleasantly surprised to discover it came with version 51.1.1.0_user_511069920 installed, so I was able to downgrade and root!
I did my research and was pretty sure it would have come with something newer, I guess these guys don't move very fast at Best Buy, lol.
This thing blows my AppleTV 2 out of the water in terms of performance, specifically XBMC. :good:
Very happy and pleased to be a part of the community!

Hey congrats. i just did the same as well. I bought 2 from staples. I have been playing toy all day and it is running like a champion! my firmware was the same as yours
I rooted/disabled updates/kodi/some apps/

I have two rooted Amazon fires and I just picked up a new rootable Fire at BB and after blocking the three recommended websites on AFTV news via OpenDNS, I'm stuck at the "Unable to update your Amazon fire TV" page. Did you guys block all three websites?

Do this. When you reboot and ensure your not doing wireless. ensure you remove the ssid if you have connected to it and use ethernet. When it starts to show checking for updates, remove the ethernet and it will ask you to login without the update. Then root/downgrade/upgrade/upgrade to rbox.
As for being available. All bestbuys in the area of LA have the firetv's sold out. I need to make one more for a friend.
Thank you for the fast reply. I am running the set up through ethernet and I have the three websites blocked and I've tried pulling the Ethernet and leaving it with the exact same results every time. Has never connected to a Wi-Fi. According to the serial number this is a version 2 if that helps. It try's to connect to update and ends up on the final page telling me unable to update your Amazon fire TV.
---------- Post added at 10:41 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:36 PM ----------
I left it on the unable to update your Amazon fire TV page overnight hoping it would timeout and take me to the account page but of course that didn't happen.

I'm surprised how AFTV hasn't taken a note of this. I suggest return the serial version 2 and find one with Serial 3. For example 70900305 or 303 and so on. You can pick up those serials from bestbuy. You will not be able to get past the update in series 2. I've tried about 5 of the series 2 this last weekend and couldn't get through the forced update.
Another thing to note and change from earlier that the Series 2 will force update to the latest firmware and not the one version up which was the case earlier.
Bad news but at least now you know. Return it and find yourself a serial 3. Best buy in woodland hills, ca had about 10 pieces last week and they are all sold out. Try to find one from best buy in your area. they have the correct ones lying around. where are you located. do you want help doing it?
Thank you so much for answering me. I didn't come here blind asking you these questions, I have read somewhere about the versions causing issues so for you to confirm that for me is much appreciated. I have four of them that are version two and one of them I tried OpenDNS for the first time and didn't do it correctly so it upgraded to an unrootable version. I've corrected that but now I was being over cautious with the remaining 3 fires I have. This sucks.
You guys are so lucky still been able to pick up rootable AFTVs.
No wonder people are selling them on eBay for £100+

Don't get disappointed. If they are returnable, then return them. There are lots that are still rootable at bestbuy. A friend wants one so he is buying a few from all over. I'll revert back with the findings. If I find the rootable versions, I can buy them and sell them straight through if you guys like.

Can you also elaborate what serial numbers are you picking up. Is it the 2 series or the 3. IMO 2 are no longer rootable and you cannot get around the forced update.

the decoder is flawed. If you get the series 2, you cannot get past the forced update by pulling out the ethernet. With series 3 you can. Hence asked what serials are you referring to.

Your not lisiening.
I use the decoder on all 3 boxes and it was correct. It allowed me to root and I have my box now. The other 2 boxes serial numbers were closely simliar, and on top of that I took the fire tv out the box just to check the serial numberand it had the same firmware as the first tv i rooted
All 3 boxes were rootable> i bought these boxes 2 days ago, and i kept 1 box that is rooted and returned the other 2,I never knew they were in high demand so im going to go back to the store i rerturned them too and buy them again and resell them!
They must have been series 3 since I could root by pulling out the ethernet cord
I rooted by pulling out the ethernet cord and it worked right away!
Hope i explained well! Why do you ask? Do you want them?
Update; Just checked the serial numbers and i called the store to check the serial number son the other 2 they all start with 709003 which indicates series 3

I understood what you said in the first place. Anyways we are talking the same thing. Yours must be series 3 as the decoder says series 3 is rootable. the flaw in the decoder is that it shows series 2 as rootable which is incorrect. AFTVnews should correct that as it misleads people.

Elias Saba, the www.aftvnews.com owner, has mentioned that is not so clear if users that have installed the developer preview version (5.0.3), on both 1st gen Fire TV and Fire TV Stick, will get the new 5.0.5 automatically, because as always Amazon has not mentioned nothing about it.
But, he thinks that all 1st Gen devices should get it, including the ones with the developer preview!

Elias and [email protected], Thanks for the clarification!
I have already corrected this little mistake, that I made unintentionally...
I already put the correct address of the site: www.aftvnews.com
I thought all those who have the FireTV Sticks (1st Gen.) would like to know, that Elias has updated the information about this new 5.0.5 release for FireTV devices.
Elias is now saying that received the confirmation that also all older FireTV Sticks will receive this new 5.0.5 update:
"Update 2/3/2016 8:00am
I’ve received confirmation that older Fire TV Sticks are indeed also receiving this software update. Additionally, the update addsbetter support for Amazon’s add-on subscription service, as well as a new consolidated “Your Videos” section"

Does "WATCH ABC" still work?
Do we have any screenshots of the homescreen yet? I'm wondering if they completely got rid of the recents section. Really got used to having kodi show up in the top row. I guess worse case we could use xposed and rbox's tv mods to omit some items and make the apps section a little higher.

Will it be also possible to root the fireTV very easy like the 4k fireTV?
Gesendet von meinem D6503 mit Tapatalk
No, due to different hardware the 4k root can not be used for the aTV1.
For those who got the upgrade and uses toslink for Dolby Digital in Netflix and Kodi, does it still work? Wanna make sure this does work before I upgrade. Thanks!
Any chance that I could update without losing root?

Thanks for all you do Rbox. I'm anxious to update mine. It's been having some issues that a clean install hasn't fixed and I'm hoping upgrading to 5.0.5 will clear them up.
My FTV is on dev 5.03 but doesn't see my microsoft bluetooth mouse, which requires android 4.4 or 5.0. Should I hope it'll work when the 5.05 update hits?

Another "new" Fire 7 coming in June.

Yeah, Amazon is updating the Fire 7 again! It's basically the same tablet as the 2017 Austin, and 2015 Ford. I wonder if it uses the same shortable Mediatek processor for a day one root. It's available for pre-order.

Hmm would that mean @diplomatic mtk su might work on it? I know its only supposed to work on 64 bit MediaTek, but it's the same chip as the HD8.
Either way, I'm sure you or someone else will crack it quickly.

Or there's a spot to short on it.
Let's hope

Biggest change will likely be support for FireOS v6 (based on Android 7.1). Much easier to work with vs the Lollipop foundation FireOS v5.

With that chip, there is a good chance that mtk-su will crack it. It does support 32-bit kernels now, if that's what they're talking about.
As for unlocking the bootloader, your options might be limited. It doesn't matter if there's a test point that will get you into bootrom mode. You still need that LK vulnerability to apply the unlock exploit. There's a decent possibility that it has been patched. And there's nothing to downgrade to. So in a nutshell, you may be able to get temporary root, but it's not clear what you will be able to do with it.
Or maybe I shouldn't have said any of that...?

Good to know. Amazon's tracking your every post now...
I'm not sure how much they care about a few people on a development board using methods that require Linux and cracking open a case.
