Hello to all
I have a BMW specific head unit running Android 8.1 and px6 processor.
The unit that i own is that one :
https://www.alibaba.com/product-det...l?spm=a2700.7724838.2017115.89.4e3cf8c9o0r9Dr
After performing a factory reset from android menu everything seemed ok.
Fresh start.
After leaving the car for some hours and come back , after start the ignition the head unit saws this ( photo attached )
After reading so much i see that the unit is in recovery but since there are no physical button except e reset hole i cannot move into the recovery and select any of the two options.
I tried to install an external usb keyboard but it is not recognized when restarting the unit with the keyboard hooked up.
I tried to install an external usb mouse that is recognized , i can move between the two options if i long press a button it highlights the option but does not give " enter " command.
Seller send me the firmware file tha is in .zip format so i cannot use the sd card tool .
I run out of options at the moment .
Can someone give a hand on this?
The best thing is have this zip file to img file , make a bootable sd card and start from there.
Is that possible?
Thank you all guys !
I attach some other photos of the board if you have any idea.
I opened searching for the C17 ic to do the shprting thing but unless i am blind i cannot find it
Ok, in order to update you will need to name the zip as "update.zip" - that's how i got mine to start.
Also you need to format the SD-Card fat32 and make sure it's empty when you copy the Update.zip file
The other option is to go in recovery but you need to find a working keyboard, for example a Logitech K120 for example works well with mine.
Try both USB ports, and try to cut the power completely when you restart and switch the port.
If you can't get a keyboard to work it's pretty tricky.
You will need to unsolder the small resistor shown it the picture, and bridge the connections next to it. (Don't loose it, you will need to put it back after flashing!)
After that you have access to the OTG, and you can use ADB - USB.
not sure it will work as expected in your case, because the unit is a bit different but if all else fails and you don't care about warranty, you could give it a try.
Can't post the image here.

Thank you for your reply
Well i managed to connect a keyboard and try both options
1) try again
2) factory reset data
in some cases the unit boots lets me play with it make adjustments etc.
But after a full reboot unit is unresponsive again and starts again the boot loop cycle.
After full reboot unit complains that the code i entered is correct but files are damaged and needs full factory reset.
I press the button to full reset but it stays forever in BMW Connecting screen.
The thing is that Android 8 has not .img file to use SD card tool to make a bootable sd so i need to get to recovery.
It has zip file that means OTA so i need recovery.
I do not have success on that.
I think that the SoM is corrupted and i do not know how to fix for now.
Any ideas for that?
If you can get into android some times, then do the following.
Try until you are booted in android.
When you manage to get in android, depending on where you play with the unit, try to have it connected to wireless, and with a laptop on the same wireless network.
Then, install Terminal Emulator on the unit.
Open it and try the following commands;
setprop persist.adb.tcp.port 5555
setprop sys.rkadb.root 1Then, on your laptop install adb, and connect to the unit using ADB connect xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (xxx... is the ip of the unit)
Once connected you can run the adb reboot recovery command to get in recovery(make sure you have the keyboard working)
Btw, you don't need the sdcard to be bootable.
Try to have the zip file you received directly on the sdcard. Should be PX6.zip, or update.zip, have them both.
Also if you have it on the sdcard when it boots in android, it will detect the update, and you can flash it directly from android.

I will try both of them.
You mean try them on boot correct?

i did that with a usb drive.
Update gone smoothly after request to remove the usb drive the unit boot up correctly but in the next full restart i had all the symptoms again.
I thought that you mean to have the files before boot and it will detect update before going into android.
I tried booting with sd card mounted with px6.zip and update.zip inside
It gives No Signal in every boot even with one of two files inside.
and for sometime now it does not boot to android at all !!
Sorry to invade your thread but I have a similar issue about updates. I have a PX6 unit from AVIN and they have released 2 updates for the unit but they just REFUSE to start. I have followed their instructions 100 percent and it recognizes the USB stick in either USB port but the updates don't start. I've tried multiple USB sticks and nothing works. Their support is worthless. Is there a way to launch the update manually?
hello, how can i get recovery mode??
I try whit reset buttom, touching with 5 fingers.. but nothing

I really need some help please! I think I may have done something very bad. I have a tmobile mytouch 3g. I was trying to update from cyanogenmod 4.2.1.9. I was using a darkstar theme from ringer nation.
Here’s where I think i screwed myself. I am fairly new to all this stuff so I was trying to find a guide on how to update the mod and instead of doing it properly by adding the files to the sd card, doing a wipe, and then installing everything. I instead messed up and did an install of sapping.nbh and basically followed all the directions to originally root the phone. Including formatting the sd card and everything. When I realized that i was doing this all wrong I was still able to load my os and everything seemed ok. I was getting a sd card error that said that the card was blank or had an unsupported file system, but I was able to mount it so, I erased everything off the card and then put the cyanogen update and the drc83_base file and attempted to load into recovery and do the update.
I loaded into and did a wipe. I attempted to follow the instructions on upgrading from the cyogen page. (God I wish I had found that page first) But after I did the wipe and I attempt to Apply any from SD I get “error: sd card is not mounted”
When I attempt to reboot the phone it goes to the tmobile mytouch logo, THEN it goes to my them logo from Ringer Nation, then it just goes to a black screen I let it sit there for like 5 minutes to see what would happen, but nothing. So I took out the battery and sim. I can get into recovery though so I hope that someone can help me figure out where to go from there.I thought that since I had done a wipe that the theme would have been deleted as well? This is weird.
I did do a nandroid backup before. Hopefully that will prove to be helpful. Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to dump as much useful information about this problem so that hopefully someone will be able to help! BTW I'm using a mac with the latest snow leopard software.
As I am desperate for help, please reach out to me via aim – icolinirie or via email
Thank you in advance for everything. This is a great community, and all of Cyanogen’s work is greatly appreciated!!
EDIT: I really need some help! Here's some more information. I have a Magic 32B. Its running Cyanogenmod v1.4 + JF Recovery.
From what I have gathered I need to adp into my phone in order to get it to mount. Anyone know how to do this on a mac. I am trying, but I don't fully understand. I have created the .bash_profile from terminal and typed the following "export PATH=${PATH}:/Users/itunes/Documents/android-sdk-mac_86/tools" which is the path to the tools file in the sdk. I am just stuck at this point. I don't know what to do from here.
Hi I quote.
Install SDK utilities you need to connect your PC to your phone
You can download the full SDK from the Android Developer website for your platform
http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
You'll need to download the SDK appropriate for your platform and extract it into a directory somewhere. I'm going to assume you're using Windows here and suggest you extract it into a folder called
C:\AndroidSDK\
on your hard disk. You can put it anywhere you like really, but if you do you'll need to substitute it for the folder above.
Add the tools directory to your system path for easy access
In Windows it's easy to add the Android SDK Tools directory to your system path. Doing this lets you use the Android SDK tools anywhere and makes it easier for you.
On Windows XP: Go to Control Panel->System, Choose the 'Advanced' tab and then click 'Environment Variables' To do this on Vista/Windows7: Simply go to Control Panel->System and choose 'Advanced System Settings' and then 'Environment Variables'
Now that you've got here locate Path under System Variables and click Edit, then add the following to the end of the string displayed:
;C:\AndroidSDK\tools\
Then click OK until you get out of the menus.
Now that you've done this you should be able to bring up a command shell and type 'adb' and it should run straight away without needing to change path.
Please note that you can skip this step completely if you find it too complicated - however you will need to CD to the ?AndroidSDK\tools every time you open up a command prompt so it's worthwhile doing. I'm going to assume you have made the change above in all further examples as it gets too complicated really. If you're not confident in a DOS shell, I'd suggest you do a little bit of reading up on basic navigation in DOS first.
Enable Debugging mode on the phone before connecting to PC and installing the ADB driver
Menu > Settings > Applications > Developement > USB Debugging
Install the USB drivers correctly - check using "adb devices".
If you have already connected your phone to your computer before then the USB drivers are probably already loaded. If you're lucky then typing 'adb devices' in a command prompt will produce something like:
C:\AndroidSDK>adb devices
List of devices attached
XXXXXXXXXXXX device
Where XXXXXXXXXXXX is the serial number of your phone. If it doesn't produce that line, then you need to check Device Manager and ensure the device drivers for your phone were installed correctly.
If you are having issues installing the ADB driver, you need to connect your phone then go into Device Manager and check the ADB device properties. Check the following property and it'll look something like:
Device Instance Id: USB\VID_0BB4&PID_0C02&MI_01\7&293A7D0D&0&0001
To fix the driver installation problem, you need to edit the driver's .ini file and change all the references of 0C03 to 0C02, or 0C02 to 0C03 if your device property states your Device Id is 0C03.
Note: After flashing a new ROM, your Device Id may change again to either 0C03 or remain as 0C02. So you need to update the .ini file again as above to refelect the change and re-install the driver. Another known way to fix the above issue is to download and install HTC Sync - this seems to install the correct drivers.
How to use ADB
ADB stands for Android Debugging Bridge - it's a useful way of talking to your handset while it's running. ADB provides commands for copying files to and from your phone, installing packages and debugging your Android applications.
Useful commands include:
adb devices - lists which devices are currently attached to your computer
adb install <packagename.apk> - lets you install an Android application on your phone
adb remount - Remounts your system in write mode - this lets you alter system files on your phone using ADB
adb push <localfile> <location on your phone> - lets you upload files to your phones filesystem
adb pull <location on your phone> <localfile> - lets you download files off your phones filesystem
adb logcat - starts dumping debugging information from your handset to the console - useful for debugging your apps
adb shell <command> - drops you into a basic linux command shell on your phone with no parameters, or lets you run commands directly
How to use Fastboot
Fastboot is another boot method and is used to drop the phone into a safe mode to load/flash alternate roms. You need USB debugging turned on before you can use Fastboot mode - so I'd recommend you do this first (under Settings->Applications->Development->USB Debugging). You will also need to power off your phone first (hold down Power and select Power Off) and then hold down the Back+Power Buttons to start the phone in Fastboot mode. You will need your USB cable connected to be able to issue any commands and assuming your drivers are correct you should be able to issue:
C:\AndroidSDK>fastboot devices
List of devices attached
XXXXXXXXXXXX fastboot
Other commands in this mode include - we'll cover these below in subsequent sections.
fastboot boot <filename> - boots a rom stored on your pc specified by the filename
fastboot flash <partition> <filename> - flashes a rom stored on your pc, partition can be one of {boot, recovery, system, userdata}
fastboot binaries for mac and linux can be found here.
3. Learn how to use fastboot and boot a recovery rom
Download a recovery rom for your device
There are several different recovery roms available for the HTC Magic devices.
Amon_RA has created several nice recovery roms available from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=530492 and get the Recovery Rom appropriate for your device - these recovery roms have Nandroid Backup and Nandroid Restore and are perfect for the average user.
You can also use Cyanogen's 1.3.1 Recovery ROM available for: PVT32A devices and PVT32B devices - this rom has some additional options for partitioning your SD card for ?Apps2SD/Swapper/etc.
Fastboot the recovery rom
Fastbooting a rom doesn't write anything to your device - it just loads it directly from your PC - so it's a completely safe way of fixing/recovering/backing up your existing rom. To fastboot a rom you need to first drop your phone into Fastboot mode and check that it's working. Now drop into a command shell and make sure the recovery image you're wanting to load is in the same directory that you're running this in. If it's called something other than recovery-rom.img then substitute that instead.
C:\AndroidSDK> fastboot boot recovery-rom.img
If you are having problems changing the directory in the command prompt, just make a copy of the command prompt .exe itself, and place it in the folder that contains the recovery rom, then run the above command.
And once again, if you have a perfected SPL which does not allow remote fastboot, you will have to fix it first.
Use the Recovery Rom to Backup your current ROM with Nandroid
Once you've booted to a recovery rom - you can use the Nandroid Backup option. If you get a 'cannot mount /dev/mkblkxxx error' when you do this then check your microSD card is inserted correctly and if so, wait a few seconds for it to register to the recovery rom correctly. If at first you don't succeed, try, try again (sdcard can take a few seconds to mount!)
You do not need to be a rocket scientist to do this.
you can use the ADB to put in recovery again by fast boot
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=530492
Hey! First off Thanks for the reply! I really appreciate someone chiming in to throw some advice my way! But while reading your thread you described the instructions for windows. In this case I have a macbook pro running snow leopard.
I did download the android sdk to my documents folder and I understand that I need to execute some scripts from the terminal on my mac to get things running. But I really dont know what those scripts are or what exactly to do.
I can get into the recovery mode on the MyTouch by holding power and home when powering on. So do I open the console from the recovery screen on the mytouch and then run the scripts on the terminal from my macbook? And which scripts should I run to get the sd card mounted onto my desktop (that is what I'm trying to do). Im not too sure what to do from there either. I want to get the phone back to stock android 1.5 os so that I can root again. My sd card has to be corrupted because it keeps giving me an error saying that it wont mount when I try to do a fix file systems or try anything from that menu. What to do??
What!
can you get in the recovery?
Yeah I can get into cyanogen v1.4 recovery. I'm just stuck from there.
Ok ok If I understand this correctly then you are not briced. you do not have any imag on your phone.
if you do not have anything nadroid recovery on sdcard you must enter a new ROM on the sdcard and flash it
remember full wipe.!
Yes this is what I believe I must do. But I need to either find a way to mount my SD card from the phone while it is in recovery mode (cyanogen v1.4). That's my problem.. I wish there was an easier way to get it mounted onto my mac from the recovery screen. I think I'm just going to go to best buy tomorrow and get a micro sd card reader and maybe another sd card just in case.
Once I have done that though. What files should I put onto the sd card in order to flash it back to original factory android 1.5.
What do you think?
Good idea
I have never used cyanogen v1.4 recovery
I use the recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.5.2H.img and ther you can use USB togle in recovery mode, You must go to the store to buy the adapter that fits on your Mac, I have two adapters for your Mac, you can borrow
Yeah that's the plan for tomorrow. Thanks for the offer man. But I'm in Los Angeles, Ca LOL!! Where are you?

I have finally managed to root my phone. after trying for a rather long time, i did it yesterday and am running modaco custom ROM which is superb. I have listed the instructions I followed in case anyone else is having the same issues as i had
(unable to backup via amon RA image - backup failed)
Text in Bold indicates something you need to type
(Instructions taken from various sites - for XP only - Credits to Unlocker & Modaco)
If your current build number is 2.73.405.5 you can skip the Goldcard section
Phone Details:
Model Number
T-Mobile G2 Touch
Firmware Version
1.5
Baseband Version
63.18.55.06FU_6.35.07.08
Kernel Version
2.6.27-0078c992
Build Number
2.73.110.26 CL#69351 release-keys
Software Version
1.0.0.A6288
In order to root the phone, I had to downgrade the build number from 2.73.110.26 to 2.73.405.66.
Setting UP ADB on XP
First things first, we need to download and setup android SDK,
1) sdk can be downloaded from developer.android.com/sdk/
2) Extract the file to c:\AndroidSDK
3) Plug your phone in to the pc via USB cable. Windows should automatically find the drivers and you should get a message in the bottom right corner saying "device is setup and ready to use" (or something similiar).
Any issues here, google is your friend, find the drivers for your device
4) Now that windows can "see" your hero, click on Start, Run, type cmd and hit enter.
5) on this screen we need to check if adb is working so change the directory to where we extracted the sdk folder:
cd\ press enter
cd\ AndroidSDK\tools press enter
adb devices press enter
You should get something similiar to:
List of devices attached
HT9BTL900210 device
6) If you see this number, all is ok so far.
Now that adb is setup and we can communicate with our phone from the pc we need to create a Goldcard
Create Goldcard
( I tried with a 8GB ScanDisk and it worked)
Take a bakup of your sd card data, copy the files to your pc, before creating
a Goldcard as we need to format the card.
1) Ensure SD card is in your phone, click on Menu | Settings | SD Card & Phone Storage | Unmount SD card, wait a few ticks, then click on Format SD Card
2) Press back a few times and go to Settings | Application | Development and put a tick in USB Debugging
3) Connect the phone to the pc, then click on Start | Run | enter cmd and hit enter, we get the same command window as before
4) Now we need to obtain a code so that we can create the gold card. in the command prompt enter the following:
cd\ press enter
cd\ AndroidSDK\tools press enter
adb devices press enter
you should see a serial number displayed
5) Now type the following
adb shell press enter
cat /sys/class/mmc_host/mmc1/mmc1:*/cid press enter
You should get something similiar to this:
045354535230384780705c3088008a10
Make a note of this code.
6) Next go to this website >> http://hexrev.soaa.me/ , enter your code and click on Submit and make a note of the new code
7) Now go to http://revskills.de/pages/goldcard.html, fill in your details and paste the code, click on submit and check your e-mail. The godcard will be e-mailed to you, save this to your desktop.
8) Now we need to download and install a HexEditor so click the following link, download and install
http://download.cnet.com/HxD-Hex-Ed...068.html?part=dl-HxDHexEdi&subj=uo&tag=button
9) On your phone, pull down the notification bar and click to copy files to your computer, Click on Mount
10) Open the HexEditor and click on Extras | Open Disk | Under Physical Disk select Removable disk, uncheck "Open as Read Only" and click OK
11) Click on Extras | Open disk image | select the goldcard.img file (sent to you via email) Click ok when prompted for the disk size (512 Hard Disk/Floppy Disk)
12) You should have 2 tabs, one is your sd card and the other the goldcard. click on the goldcard, click on Edit | Select All, then Edit | Copy.
13) Click on the sdcard (removable disk) tab, highlight from offset 00000000 to 00000170, click on Edit | Paste Write. The highlighted cells should go red.
14) Click on File | Save and close the HexEditor
15) On your phone, pull down the notification bar and select to turn of USB storage. Pull down the notification bar again and click to copy files to your computer, Click on Mount. If XP opens the SD card all has worked ok.
16) On your phone, pull down the notification bar and select to turn of USB storage. Reboot your phone with the goldcard (sdcard) still inside.
Downgrade to an older ROM
1)You should already have HTC Sync installed on your computer, if not head over to http://www.htc.com/www/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=283&cat=3&dl_id=852 | download and install HTC Sync
2) Next we need to down load the ROM, RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_2.73.405.5_WWE_..exe which can be downloaded from here http://www.megaupload.com/?d=RCQ6V92U
3) Connect your phone to the pc and ensure HTC Sync picks up your phone, any issues here, either reboot your pc or phone until the phone\pc can see each other.
4) Double click the file you downloaded RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_2.73.405.5_WWE_..exe and follow the instructions. they are very straight forward. It can take up 10 mins to complete.
Hopefully you should now have a phone with the Build Number as 2.73.405.5
If this is the case, continue reading.
Download Custom ROM
Now would be a good time to download the ROM you want to use, I am currently using Cronos which is based on 2.1 and is super quick
http://www.cronosproject.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=16&sid=332f8bccd0147f4ee8eb093920eb428d
1) Once downloaded, rename the file to Update.zip
2) Connect your phone to your pc and pull down the notification bar again and click to copy files to your computer, Click on Mount.
3) Copy the file, Update.zip to the root of your SD card.
4) On your phone, pull down the notification bar and select to turn of USB storage
Gain ROOT access
1) On your phone, click on Menu | Settings | Applications | put a tick in "Unknown Sources"
2) Connect the phone to your pc and on your phone, pull down the notification bar and click to copy files to your computer, Click on Mount
3) Download the following 2 files and save them to your desktop
http://zenthought.org/content/project/flashrec Version 1.1.3
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=WP29CWHK recovery-RA-hero-v1.5.2.img
You can also use recovery-RA-hero-v1.5.3.img but I found version 1.5.2 worked for me.
4) Copy both of these 2 files to the root of your SDcard, should show as Removable disk\media within "My Computer"
5) On your phone, pull down the notification bar and select to turn of USB storage. Disconnect your phone from the pc
6) Go to the market place and download a file manager, I used ASTRO
7) Open ASTRO and select flashrec-1.1.3.apk (the file you copied over), if prompted select package installer. click in Install if it doesnt automatically install the app
8) Open FlashRec (click on open after install) and click on Backup Recovery Image. Should take a few seconds to backup
9) Now click on the empty text box and type the following
/sdcard/recovery-RA-hero-v1.5.2.img then click on Flash Custom Recovery Image . It should take to long doing this, 10 seconds maybe
10) Power of your phone, once shutdown, hold down the Home and Power button together until the phone boots in to recovery mode
11) On the Recovery Screen, select Backup/Restore (using the trackball) and then Nand backup, this should take a minute or so
12) Next click on Wipe and select Wipe data/factory reset
13) Now select Flash zip from sdcard, this can take up to 5-15 mins. Once this is done, it should prompt you to reboot your phone, if not select "Reboot system Now"
14) Done, hopefully if everything when according to plan your phone should boot with Cronos (whichever rom you chose), the first time it boots it can take ages.
Update Radio
Check to ensure the radio version is 63.18.55.06JU_6.35.09.26, If yes skip this section, if not you can download it from the Modaco site
http://android.modaco.com/content/h...oms-radios-in-update-zip-format-for-gsm-hero/
1) Connect the phone to your pc and on your phone, pull down the notification bar and click to copy files to your computer, Click on Mount
2) Remove the update.zip file from the SD card
3) Rename the radio from 63.18.55.06JU_6.35.09.26 to Update.zip
4) On your phone, pull down the notification bar and select to turn of USB storage. Disconnect your phone from the pc
5) Power down your phone, select HOME and POWER to boot in to Recovery mode
6) Select Flash zip from sdcard, this should take roughly 5 mins, reboot the phone.
Thats it your done, If you click on Menu | Settings and nothing shows, reboot the phone again ( I had this rather strange issue)
Setting up SD CARD to work with A2SD
Follow this guide, its very good
http://androidandme.com/2009/08/news/how-to-manually-partition-your-sd-card-for-android-apps2sd/
Hopefully you now have a rooted phone all setup and working. As someone on here said, Road to Freedom
Thanks for this.
I'm still stuck. The goldcard seemed to work twice but when I tried the RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_2.73.405.5_WWE_..exe it said "waiting for bootloader" and the screen on the Hero had changed to the white screen with 3 skateboarding androids and what looked like a selectable option "?RUU USB", can't quite remember but there was no way of selecting it and no buttons advanced the process.
Don't know if anyone else got this? Any tips on what I'm doing wrong?
did you receive any erros on your pc, i,e the RUU setup should be running andupdating you with whats happening, did that throw an error?
I will do it again tonight but got something along the lines of "waiting for bootloader.....timed out" Will confirm in the next hour, but some other threads said they needed to create a gold card a few times before one worked.
Any advice welcome
On the windows RUU update utility I get
ERROR [171]: USB CONNECTION ERROR
This is despite the device syncing well and being fully recognised by RUU until failing waiting for bootloader....
On the HTC Hero I get a white screen with 3 skateboarding androids on it.
On the white screen at the top I get
HERO CVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-1.76.0007 (HERO10000)
MICROP-010f
TOUCH PANEL-SYN0104
RADIO-6.35.07.08
Aug 4 2009, 19:43:30 (not the current time)
RUU USB <---- Highlighted in orange. making me think you could select it, however, no buttons on the device do anything. The Hero stays like this until I pull the battery out but then it boots normally (even after the RUU.exe exits). If I pull the USB cord out, the USB text dissapears and only RUU remains highlighted.
Any ideas? The SD card used is the stock one shipped with the device which others have said works fine. If no one has a better idea, I will try later using my other 8gb card, but this is a pain as I have to back it all up.
I formatted the SD card ie non-gold card version and repeated the RUU and got the same message so I'm assuming the goldcard didn't work. Sigh... not to back up my 16Gb card...
So i got a SD card another member recommended as working as a gold card = no go.
This is getting beyond a joke now. Nobody has information on what the actual
credentials are for a card to be use able? I've spent too much money on this crap
I think I'll just sell this ****.
So I tried my 16Gb card but that didn't work either.
I don't think I'm that unlucky to get two cards which won't work as Goldcards and am very confident I have followed the instructions correctly.
The only thing I can think of is that as my phone was returned from being fixed only two weeks ago, they may have patched the kernal so even Goldcard will not work. Sigh, I might just have to wait for T-mo to pull their finger out with the 2.1 upgrade.
For what it's worth, Kernel version:
2.6.27-0078c992
Build : 2.73.110.26
Software version: 1.0.0.A6288
Kernel Version:
2.6.27-0078c992
[email protected] #821
Build Number:
2.73.110.26 cl#69351
Software Version
1.0.0.A6288
Bought and last updated in December 2009
Anyone with the same build etc that was able to gold card?
Thanks for this info.
Looks like it's the same. No-one with a goldcard in south london wants a little visit from me and my Hero ?!?
Chaps, I tried 3 times and on my fourth attempt I was successful, I used a 8GB Scandisk Card which worked. I gave up twice but eventually got lucky and it worked so I understand your frustration
It maybe worth uninstalling and re-installing your drivers, or you can try this:
USBDeview >> http://download.cnet.com/USBDeview/3000-2094_4-10614190.html, download and install
Whilst the phone is plugged in, open USB Deview, find all the htc drivers and delete them, after deleting them, disconnect your phone and plug it back in, drivers should re-install,
Try again with a different USB port on your machine, let me know how you get on
For the guys having problems with goldcards,....
Once you have made the changes to the SD, saved and closed the HEX editor,... re-open it again to make sure the changes have actually saved.
...... Alternatively,... Check to see if there are any differences in the tutorial from this thread, compared to the one here ---> [Guide] Newbie Guide to Install a Custom Rom [Updated 14/04]
Hope something there helps.
Maybe OS may be an issue,... Mine failed on Win7 64bit but worked 1st time with an XP machine.
Complete success!
Seems it was a problem with Win 7 (32-bit).
Worked first time in Vista with the stock 2gb card already created using Win 7 earlier.
Happily now enjoying a custom 2.1 Rom!
Angry yet again with M$.
So pleased I've moved to Ubuntu as my main OS.
I managed to get my goldcard work first time round, fortunately. I used a SanDisk 2Gb card, but curiously, I realised afterwards I forgot to format it, I still had all the hidden linux files (starting with a .) on it
I think all T-mobile branded hero's use the same firmware initially.
Also, I couldn't get the USB to work on Win7, had to go onto XP.
Finally, a guy at my work had the same problem, not being able to goldcard his Hero, I suggested to him, when he goes into the hex editor, include all off the offsets, like when you get down to 170, highlight all the way down to the right of that line.

I have to agree, modaco 3.2 is fantastic, even when memory is running low its still quick, Paul has done an excellent job, flashed the hero with modaco 3.2 as soon as it was rooted, havent tried anything else yet

Definately,.... Has been just over 6 week with my Hero now and haven't felt the need to even try another ROM.
Help would be great. I have a dell inspiron laptop (not sure exactly what model it is) and I made the mistake of downloading windows 8 consumer preview when it first came out and installing it directly on the laptop rather than dualboot or usb stick. It worked fine for a couple of days and then out of nowhere it wouldn't boot up. When I press the power button the screen will light up and the w8 logo will appear but it won't go past that part. Sometimes It will say auto repairing itself but I've left it on for two days to see if it would fix itself but It didn't. Is there a way to get in safe mode to atleast re install the iso file? I've been without a laptop for a couple of months already and can't afford to buy a new one!

so am I correct in thinking you have no installation media at all for windows? any version?
If so do you have access to another PC because to be honest, your probably going to need it
I assume you have tried hitting F8 on boot to get to the boot menu and that didn't work either?
in terms of your hardware its cool, that's not the issue, the software is, having an install disk would have made things a lot easier....
Yes I have access to another pc and no I don't have any available. I downloaded a newer version of the win8 in ISO format and put it on a dvd disc and tried installing it through the f12 key right when you boot up. The disc drive started running but nothing happened afterwards. Windows recently released a new version of win8. Should I download that one and try it again the same way I tried the first time?

ok, you hit F12 to get in to the boot menu is that correct? then you selected the DVD drive and it made some noises but did nothing?
Ok, Boot menus can be troublesome
What I suggest is go in to the BIOS and change the boot order to DVD first THEN HDD, if that doesn't work then take the HDD out of the boot order altogether, you will need to turn it back on again though to complete the setup
also, I want you to see if the DVD boots on another computer, the first ISO I downloaded was corrupted and whilst mine booted it would always fail to install, re downloaded it and no problems at all
Its probably worth downloading the RP ISO anyway, the previous version the CP, was mass tested in the open market so any issues with installing wouldn't have been worked out in the CP, hopefully the RP would have got most of them,
Hi, i did what you recommended and it worked fine until the install process! It took me to the install screen and i pressed install. Afterwards it gave me the option of automatically doing the install or choosing custom options only. I choose the automatic and it told me that i had to remove the disc and restart the computer and re inster the disc for it to continue! The problem is that everytime i do that it wants to boot up the original way where it wouldnt work! Any ideas. Should i choose the custom option instead ( but i dont know what to choose if i do it that way)??!! Thanks for your help

HI!
Yes, you are right.
Boot to the install media, at the option to do custom, select custom.
When the screen loads showing the partitions (drives)
-Click advanced on the bottom right
-highlight each partition and delete them (this will loose all data saved there but unless you have a boot disk or usb or remove the drive from the laptop, the data is usless anyway)
At this point you can click continue, or next Windows setup will auto create the partitions it needs and unpack the files, then finish install.
If you get any issues with files missing or media is corrupt from the ISO, you will need to down load it again, use the MS download manager or some manager to ensure the download is good and the file CRC matches what they have on the download site. I have seen this a lot lately so don't waste your time restarting the install if it has an error while coping files, just get a new download.
I hope this Helps.

This does resemble a copy error, or even a hard disk/hard disk controller problem.
I have a desktop computer that will no longer boot up from any IDE devices (even if their properly formatted, it also includes any optical medium), Trying to boot from them results in a "DISK NOT BOOTABLE" (something around that, Acer's boot errors are different from the usual ones.
Anyway, back on track, before all that happened, I had trouble booting the computer from the IDE HDDs, sometimes it would boot and sometimes it stuck at the Windows 7 loading screen till it said a file was corrupt or missing, or it BSOD'd.
I also recommend re-downloading and trying the install again, in extreme cases, if you have another HDD to test, try installing it on a different HDD. If that works, the problem could be your hard disk (or something more nefarious, who knows ^_^
This thread is consolidating all the information of Junsun V1 and V1Pro devices scattered in the Android Head-Units forum. I want to write and extend this to make it easier for new people. It's sometimes difficult to find the right information.

Updating FirmwarePreparation
USB drive formatted as FAT32
Files for update (*.bin, *.upd) need to be in the root directory of the USB drive
Starting the UpdateThe update should start automatically when the USB drive is plugged in. A pop-up appears that says that an update will start. After a few seconds the device will reboot and install the update.
If this doesn't work, plug in the USB stick and restart the device with a needle in the reset button. When the device starts up move one finger on the touchscreen around and wait for a green detected message at the top of the screen. The update will start.
Problem solvingI don't have a *.upd file
That is OK, the file does mot contain any information. Just create a new empty file and rename it like the *.bin file. As example, if you have a 8259.bin create a 8259.upd file.
The device doesn't recognize my USB thumb drive
There are 2 USB connectors on the back of the device. If one does not work, try the other. Make sure your thumb drive is formatted as FAT32.
Firmware FilesThis list is made by taking links from different firmware threads (found in first post). Every entry has a link to the original posts. Please be careful when flashing, the files need to match the correct CPU and screen resolution. If you have files for the normal V1 or different screen resolutions you can send me a PM.

Factory ResetSettings -> Car Infotainment -> About Device -> Settings Icon -> Code 8878 -> Erase all Content
ADB ConnectionPreparation
Activate Developer options. You have to click a few times on the build number until you are a developer: Settings -> System -> About Car -> Build number
Activate USB debugging. Settings -> System -> Developer options -> USB debugging
Use the 4-pin USB connection on the back of the device. Connect with a USB A <-> USB A cable. My device had a female Mini USB adapter for using a Mini USB cable.
ConnectUse adb to connect to the device
Bash:
adb shell
Problem solvingADB can't find any devices
It could be that the ADB connection with the device is not working. This means that the corresponding option is not set. This can be done temporary or permanent.
Temporary Connection
To make the connection with adb work temporary we can change the USB setting of the device. To do that we need to set Settings -> USB Preferences -> USB controlled by -> This device. No it should be possible to connect via ADB. The connection is temporary, because after a reboot it is gone and has to be set again.
Permanent Connection
We can enable the connection permanently by changing a value in the secret menu. Go to Settings -> About Device -> Cogwheel (top right) -> Code 8878 -> Others -> USB2 Debug -> Enable
Can't find USB Preferences
Go to Settings and click the search icon in top right corner. Type in usb and then click USB controlled by.
RootCreate boot.imgConnect via adb to the device and find the location of the boot partition. The star '*' has to be replaced according to your device. For my Junsun V1Pro it is bootdevice. In the next step we will create a copy of the boot partition. Please be careful with dd command. It will overwrite wrong files or partitions if you do a mistake.
Bash:
adb shell
su @#zxcvbnmasdfghjklqwertyuiop1234567890,.
ls -l /dev/block/platform/*/by-name/
dd if=/dev/block/platform/*/by-name/boot of=/sdcard/boot.img
Patch boot.imgInstall Magisk apk on your device. I used Magisk v23.0 from here: https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk
Open the app and click on top right Install button
Then click next and choose Select and Patch File
Select your boot.img and let Magisk patch it.
Copy the new created file to your computer. The filename will be similar to magisk_patched_23000_***_boot.img
Bash:
adb pull /sdcard/magisk_patched_boot.img <older_on_your_computer>
Flash magisk_patched_boot.img
Bash:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash boot magisk_patched_boot.img
fastboot reboot
Writable SystemTo make the system writable we need to remount the partitions.
Bash:
adb shell
su @#zxcvbnmasdfghjklqwertyuiop1234567890,.
remount
Now we need to reconnect and then we can write to the system (i.e. copy a file)
Bash:
adb shell
cp /sdcard/myapp.apk /system/app

Hey all, I need help with my junsun v1 pro 4gb +64gb-mtk8259- I just had it installed and everything works except Bluetooth. I can make calls from unit and or my cell phone. Apparently the people I call can hear me but I can't hear them. On occasion as it dialing I hear the ringing for a second then it cuts out. Is this a hardware issue, install issue, or something I need to change in secret menu?? I've reached out to junsun with no luck. I fixed the issue with the swc thanks to this forum!! Hoping someone can help me. Car is chrysler 300c and phone is samsung galaxy note 20.

Hi, I have the same problem, if you have found a solution to the problem please share it with me! Thanks!
I am trying to mess with the secret menu. Like bt sync type, volume, three is various options in there related to Bluetooth just don't want to screw it up worse. Hopefully someone can shed some light cuz if not I'm returning it. I'll have to pay to take it out....ughh...I love the look though, if not I would just get pioneer but it don't look stock like this
So I Brought it back to my installer and he fixed it. Apparently in my car the speaker inputs were reversed, that why I couldn't hear anyone through speakers. He told me some cars with 6 plus speakers have this problem when installing these type of units. Loving the unit now that's its all fixed.
Hello
I have Junsun V1 pro 4/64g and my unit is hanging on Google boot logo (Android 9).
Does some one know how to get to recovery to do wipe cash / do factory reset?
Thanks
I have the junsun v1 1gb, it does not enter the google play services.
I would like you to provide me with a ROOM image to update or factory reset.
Thanks!

I'm actually also looking for a way how to boot into the recovery. Haven't found one at the moment.
For your problem you could try and flash an update (or same version again). Description is in this thread.
Hi
Unfortunately updates are also not booting / updating while reseting. Plugging USB pendrive with update files to second USB port and against resting button still can't manage to update - radio is botting "normally" and ends up with bootloop
Try both USB ports.
Plug the drive in turn the device on and then move a finger on the touchscreen. I do a left right movement. If that doesn't work you will need to do it with the mtk tools and a scatter file.
Hi!! Are there any way to disable calls from SIM card ? Thanks
Hi, I purchased the Junsun V1 pro 6gb/128gb and am pretty happy with it. All the important things connected and worked straight away which was grand. One thing I wanted to check is the battery draining problem and the cutting of the 2 wires to prevent this. I found the Junsun diagram and on there it seems it's the red and orange wires (that "look" to run from the main black block to the black power block for the head unit). The query I have is those wires on my loom run from the canbus white block to the black power block in the head unit. Pictures attached to hopefully show this a bit better. Excuse the terminology Has anyone had any experience with this at all? TIA

I have the 6gb, not sure what chip. When you go into the menu after code 8878 it should say on the right in the middle "Erase All" I think. Then it asks you if you want to factory reset.
Hello, please help with updating and where to download new software for the above-mentioned radio. Chipset AC8227L, 1/16 GB. I downloaded programming from https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/help-with-this-chinese-hu-alps-8227l_demo.3930394/ ; every time ith throws an error to let me check the usb and files. I changed 3x USB stick and memory cards, each time the same, FAT32 format.
Hi, format SD card possibly greater than 4GB with standard settings - FAT32 or ExFAT file system and deafult allocation rate.
Next, download one of firmwares that suits your device (for 8227L it has a lot of them on this forum but your device maybe have different UI than XPH.8227_8_xxxxxx mentioned in this above link).
In my oppinion the ones that will work for your model begins with XRC,CHS, JC.
Firmware for download are like this example : CHS.8227L-8.UI4.Android_10_ver.6_xxxx(date of update)
After download and unzipping two files, .bin and .upd transfer those two files on freshly formated disk, nothing else just these two files. If transfering from PC or laptop make sure that you eject the drive before pulling out from PC.
Next step is to make the unit recognize system on SD card. Put the ignition key in contact mode or better turn engine on (before that insert SD card in memory card slot, not MAP slot !) and start tapping with one finger on center on screen untill message DETECTED is seen on upper screen area. If successful it will recognize files and start automatically updating (wait till finishes and enters system / UI), if not or fails to recognize files for update repeat process two or three times untill successful.
If still nothing, enter erase mode / recovery mode (purge of internal memory and files) by tapping with all five fingers on screen. When recovery is completed (it will turn to factory settings) device will be empty of all memory tasks, prevoius configurations etc. , just clean install of Android system, running and with no apps and settings configured. Then insert SD card and try update again.
If device even won't go in recovery mode then you have some factory settings like "protection" or "install" enabled. Turn this off both in factory settings / menu OTHER.
Good luck !

Sorry but I am not able to find the latest software compatible with my radio, there is too much of it, please help.
I will add that my radio does not have slots for SD cards and Maps, there is only a female USB input to which I can connect a USB flash drive, the device is fully touchable without buttons.
it is probably a Chinese counterfeit I bought on aliexpress, there will be a problem with the selection of the update
Similar firmware to yours is here https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1a9yoWoiuMZRoQVL5O677Y9tmQHHAtmbo
Try to install this one it is TSKJ/CHS UI firmware for devices with 8227L chipset.
Extzract and put downloaded files onto USB drive formated for FAT 32 and try updateing.
memory formatted in FAT32, tried for two different, only two files extracted, each time in green DETECTED and after a while in red "Fail, please check USB and files", I tried several times
restoring the settings with a five-finger touch also did not work
I deleted the data to the initial state, but the update still does not start
I noticed that if I detach the USB and I make a finger movement during startup, the symptom is the same, as if I would not see the usb
Do you have install option in factory settings disabled ? Or protection option ? If do deactivate PROTECTION and enable INSTALL in factory settings (pin code) / OTHER submenu. Then try updating again.
yes, I have it done, I also entered the pin, unfortunately unchanged
Use another USB drive with 2.0 speed not 3.0 if this is the case.
Maybe it's just some stupid thing like this that is keeping you from updating.
If this not succesfull either check your device usb ports if they are working thru USB debug command in factory settings, also turn on all USB to be 2.0 and not 1.1 maybe will help somehow. I think that USB port is missconfigured and are causing not to update.
Another thing , if you have by hand any SD card and USB card reader try with that.
I have debugging turned on in the settings after entering the code 8888, and the USB is switched to 2.0, I tried with a new pendrive and with an SD card reader that I put into the USB, unfortunately still unchanged, I also changed the USB input on the back of the radio by switching the cable

Hm, this is a hard one, has this unit of yours been rooted ?
Honestly, I don't know how can I check it? how to root?
If it turns out I have root, does that change anything?
Install from Google play any app that contains root tester and see. Yes if it is rooted device is modified and altered and do not have stock firmwares, which leads to undesired complications and problems.
If the device turns out to be root, it is possible to work around it in some way to install other software?
I checked, the app showed that my device does not have root
today I bought memory 2.0, but still unchanged, these are my settings, is everything ok?
