Sorry ATT variant, not yet..

I'm on ATT variant too, already ditched their build and using global firmware. No issues so far. Hope this helps someone else.

Yup! Just be sure the unlock bootloader. Reason why I waited a while, was ATT usually doesn't like bootloaders to be unlocked, so they'll lock that down. Not the case with this phone.
So I unlocked the bootloader, which factory reset the phone. Then flashed the global firmware for Oreo. But you'll be lucky, you can flash the latest pie firmware from the start. I had to flash the Oreo global, then update from within settings to get pie.
Good luck.

Will I need to lock the bootloader back when I'm done? Maybe be a stupid question.

will be able to get ota's from here on out with out locking it back?

Yes and no. If you don't root, you'll get ota's no problem. Rooted, you will still see the update, but there is a more involved process to update.
Once you're on global firmware, consider yourself an unlocked variant of the phone. Forget ATT.

Awesome I have no plans on rooting just want to be on that software. So I can lock the loader back and that won't effect anything? Thank you so much.

Nope. Just follow the instructions on the Razer site. Easy.

Sprint S7 unlocked: Is there a way to update it safely?

Long time reader...first time poster
I bought an unlocked sprint s7 from ebay and it works like a dream and i was wondering if there was a safe method to update the phone WITHOUT ruining the unlock that the seller put on the phone.
Current software is update PC5 and i would love to benefit from security and bug fixes in new releases.
Thanks in advance!

I always thought if a phone gets carrier unlocked it didnt matter what u did to it, it would stay unlocked. Unless the way he got it unlocked was thru a mod maybe that can b ruined. Im not sure

Most likely not a carrier unlock do to a unlocked padlock during boot animation as well as samsung pay not working due to software mods that im guessing made it unlocked in the first place. Thanks for the reply!

Bootloader unlock and sim unlock are two different things. You said it has an unlock pad on boot up screen. That means it's bootloader is unlocked. Which means if I am correct if it has a custom recovery you are unable to do future ota updates. Can and possibly brick your phone. You can flash a ton that has the new update no issues developers are usually fairly quick to update there rom on the latest ota.

I can confirm that updating over OTA will NOT screw with the unlock of the device. If your samsung pay does not work i would disable knox with a package disabler app to receive samsung pay in you new updated state.
OTA update from PC5 to PH7 on unlocked phone went smoothly.
Thanks
I have a unlocked Sprint S7 but im outside of America, is there any way i can update without losing the unlock? i don't want to end with an expensive brick.
Im stuck in G930PVPU2APC5 and i can't receive OTA updates
I bought unlocked sprint s7 that I'm using with metro PCS, but it's not letting me update the profile and because of that I'm not getting the wifi hotspot option. How do I get it to work?
@ThaDunder : You must initially do it manually over samsung smart switch then OTA will work @zirnitra : Sadly wifi tethering is not working for me either...no idea how to fix it =/ must be a symptom of the unlocking like wifi calling

Firmware Help Needed

So on my wife's sprint s7, she setup finger print scanner for lockscreen. But some how got locked out. So all it would ask for is the password which she didn't remember either. So my only option was a factory reset. I did that in recovery but when it went thru setup, it wanted the Gmail associated with that device which was her email. It wouldn't take that either. So came down to needing to odin stock firmware. I forgot the other day her phone updated to PJ2 firmware. Well all I came across online was stock firmware for PF2. I used the newest odin and filled all slots with appropriate files and flashed. Get nothing but failed. Assuming it's because I couldn't downgrade firmwares. My total fault. I haven't odined or rooted my phones since the note 5. Where it was just one file to fill in on the ap slot on odin. So basically her phone is a paper weight because when I reboot it, it goes thru setup but once it gets to the point of connecting to network, it just wants to sit there. Does anyone have any suggestions? Is there another firmware I can download to get my wife's phone working again? I couldn't find PJ2 Stock firmware anywhere online. Please help!!!
Try the unlocked firmware. PG9 was the unlocked version just prior to PI3 (the latest unlocked version). This will allow you to have hotspot without rooting.

I totally screwed up my last post. I copied it from notepad and most of it didn't copy over, which I just now realized after reading your quote of my post. I had written exactly what you ended up doing - flash the unlocked firmware and use Shortcut Master Lite app to enable hotspot. I also got the versions wrong. The versions I posted are the sprint firmware, not the unlocked. Been a long day. Did you get hotspot working?

Unfortunately when you switch to/from the sprint firmware to/from the unlocked firmware, your phone's data will be wiped, so essentially factory reset. So you would lose hotspot if you flashed back to the sprint firmware from the unlocked firmware. You could root, but the root for this phone on the sprint firmware is tricky and unstable. And I'm pretty sure from what I've read in the rooting thread that the last couple of versions of the sprint firmware (PH7 and definitely PJ2) cannot be rooted. I think the last sprint firmware version that you can even get root on is maybe PE1, and I don't think you can downgrade to that version any more because of the new bootloader.

I'm pretty sure you can. I had done it from an earlier unlocked version to an earlier sprint version. I think as long as the bootloader of the sprint firmware you're trying to flash back to is at least as new as the bootloader of the unlocked firmware you're coming from, it should work. But I haven't done it myself with these newer firmware versions. I bet after your wife uses the unlocked version for a while, she won't want to go back to the sprint version. I've never looked back since I tried the unlocked firmware. The only reason I did flash back to sprint firmware was just to see if it could be done. I immediately flashed the unlocked firmware back onto my phone. I really hate what sprint does to this phone with all the sponsored apps and sprint apps they dump on there, and most you can't remove or disable.

So I just read this thread, and just want to confirm. I'm on PJ2 on sprint. I can flash G930U API3 firmware with Odin and get rid of all the sprint bloat correct? Will the device still work on Sprint's network then? And I can root PI3? If this is all correct I'll be doing this today lol.

All Samsung's have multiple ways of backing up and restoring. All you have to do is back up using Samsung cloud and when you start your phone it will ask you if you want to restore your phone and then everything will automatically come back to your phone. Factory reset fixes boot loop and other issues

Great, I also found my signal to be better as far as staying connected is concerned. At one point my data kept going out on the atnt firmware and I had to keep restarting the phone or mess with the Wi-Fi calling. I haven't had any problems since I flashed this and plus 8 is faster than 7 so I'm excited to not have to mess with this phone anymore and just leave it up to ota updates.

If there was root before (there is), then I'm pretty sure it will soon be available for Oreo too. I don't see why there wouldn't be unless those individuals who created or found the engineering kernel for MM AND N, aren't around to help out again. If not, back to 6.0 it goes.
HI, Now I'm on a custom rom with Nougat. Sim's carrier is Orange(UE). If I flash this Official Oreo version the phone will become Locked, right? Any idea how to unlock it, no charges? Thanks!
Thanks for the upload. I was trying to see if SamMobile had this up yet but they did not have it up when I checked. I have the MetroPCS variant and it did have 8.0 available on SamMobile already. I am switching from MetroPCS to T-Mobile so this will be perfect to get my phone 100% ready.

Flashed Wrong Firmware

Hello friends of the XDA community. I have a Sprint unlocked variant. I'm on T-Mobile, but after September's update, I got sim invalid message. I thought this would be an easy fix to downgrade back to the previous stock Pie Firware. So I went to the Essential website and downloaded the wrong firmware and flashed it, it was open market but I have a Sprint device. Now the device just bootloops every time I try to flash the correct firmware. When I try to flash the correct firmware, it says wiping data and than it starts transfering data and a second after it reboots and bootloops. Am I doomed? Thanks guys.
Open market works fine on Sprint devices. What did you download? Did you unlock your bootloader? Unlock critical?
Thank you so much for you help. I finally got it back up and running.

Maybe essential will release a fix in a few days for the relocked Sprint phones. Otherwise, if you wanted to unlock it yourself so you can run the latest update, see https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=77532356&postcount=20 since it sounds like you already have your bootloader unlocked.
Do you mean bootloader or sim in terms of unlocking? Bootloader is fine. I'm sim locked.

Will my LS997 lose UNLOCK if i Factory-Reset it?

Hello guys, I have a LG V20 LS997 (Sprint) and it was unlocked when I second-handed bought it. It had Android Nougat and I received the OTA Oreo Update, I risked to install it and fortunately, I did not lose my UNLOCK.
After some months I have noticed a lot of lag on my device, even when doing nothing it gets warm and battery drains fast. So, I want to factory-reset it to clean everything.
My question is, If I perform a Factory-Reset, will my phone Re-Lock again?
I attach a Screenshot of my Software Info:
I hope you guys can help me out, best wishes!

How do u unlock in this version? V20A 8.0
Enviado desde mi iPhone utilizando Tapatalk
Yes!!! For my short time owning 1, it was running Android 7. I updated to Oreo, and it re locked!!!. If you reset, it would still have to go through almost the same process. Long story short, yes
nobody knows
This is an old thread but I just want to add some information. I bought an LS997 from eBay that claims to be unlocked. It runs Android 7.0 and I reset it a couple of times and it is still unlocked. However, after I updated to Oreo (8.0), it is locked immediately. This happens even without factory reset. So I am not sure how OP managed to upgrade without being locked. The bottom line is, I don't know whether OP's phone will be locked again after factory reset.
