A friend of mine gave me his tab to check it, because it wont charge anymore.
I have a 2A power supply and a usb doctor in the line, i have around 5.2V but 0.0A.
I tried three PSUs and two cables, no difference.
I read that the connector can cause the problem, but if found this for the older one.
Any idea what to do?

My battery discharged while I was travelling - it went to <10% and shut off by itself. I left the original HTC microusb over seas and so I used my old Motorola microusb to try to charge the phone. After leaving it overnight a number of times I thought the battery was dead. I ordered a new battery (from Mugen) and tried to charge that.
All I get is a flashing orange/red light. The phone does not turn on.
I have tried charging on both the AC charger and via PC usb port.
Are all MicroUSB cables universal? I can't get a straight answer about this from HTC's customer support. Every time I call someone gives me a different answer which leads me to believe that they have no clue what they are talking about.
Is there anything I can do to remedy this?
The HTC AC charger is rated at 5V 1A, while my old Moto charger is rated at 5.1V 850mA. Could I get a charge by using slightly higher voltage with lower amperes?
I really would like to avoid sending it back to manufacturer warranty so if there is any other alternate route I can take please let me know.
I have some cheap MicroUSB cables and they seem to charge very slowly compared to the HTC one. There may be a difference, but I suspect the cheap cables are just plain cheap.
No the Motorola charger wont have done it any harm, 0.1volt wont make a difference, and charging at a lower current is less likely to cause damage.
Could I have damaged the phone by using a different companies' cable?
Is there a chance that the phone is FUBAR? Should I be able to turn it on if its plugged into a power source even if the battery is dead?
please excuse the bump
need to know
*bump*
I've actually tried all the different combinations of charging and they all seem to work fine
I've tried a cheap microUSB cable with the official charger, official microUSB cable with iPhone charger, cheap microUSB cable with PC, another cheap microUSB cable in my friend's car, and even a Nokia microUSB cable in all the mentioned combinations
They all just gave different current readings (from CurrentWidget) but in the end they all worked well. I'm not sure if a Motorola microUSB would have modifications that cause incompatibilities though
I also tried different Micro-USB Cables and my DHD still works normally.
me too have the same problem. I got a total of 3 diff USB cable. One give me 330mA, one give me 120mA and one gave me only 50mA. i do not mind spending the money if i know how to choose a USB cable which can give me 330mA everytime i charge. Anyone knows how to spot the correct ones?

Any Blackberry USB cable should work..
used Motorola cable many times. No issues.
Might be a fluke that u busted ur phones charging system.
The USB cables are all the same and have no effect on charging current. The charging current is determined by how the two data lines within the cable are terminated in the charging device. If the data lines are left open ciruit, the phone interprets this as being a USB charger and will therefore only draw a maximum of 500mA to prevent damage to a PC's USB port. Chargers that are capable of delivering more current (such as a wall charger) connect the two data lines together. The phone then interprets this as being a charging device which is capable of delivering a higher current and will draw greater than 500mA. If you look at "Menu - Settings - About phone - Battery" it will state either "Charging (USB)" or "Charging (AC)" depending on what you are charging from.
Hi there,
The phone in question is a Galaxy S i9000 with the latest CM10 (same problem occurred with CM9 and another rom, not based on CM I believe).
First of all, it never shows any signs on the phone that it's charging. However, when connected to a PC, it does charge (it doesn't look like it at first glance, but the battery icon fills up). When connected to a wall charger, nothing happens. It does not charge. I also can't connect it to the PC in order to transfer files etc. Just charge it.
I cleaned the usb socket carefully, but that did not help. I actually think it isn't a hardware problem, because this problem has sort of been coming and going during the last few days, and as I've said it charges fine via the PC.
I've tried 3 different roms, but no luck. Also tried different cables and wall chargers obviously..
Your help will be much appreciated!

Apparently over time the USB slots tend to get damaged due to constant usage, had this problem with a china made charger ( shows charging but never charges) and still lately even USB cables seems to need some replugging or slide movements to get connection. For insight , try the cleaning method.
I'm not sure if the problem is the phone or (multiple) chargers but for the second S4 in a row (got the first one replaced) I am unable to charge my phone. When I plug my phone into chargers (including the stock one and multiple known working chargers of 2.1a), the phone does not charge. I have tried with different wall chargers and a car charger but have not had luck. When I plugged the phone into my desktop, the machine refused to load on reboot claiming that a USB device was causing a over-current problem. After unplugging the phone, the computer was then able to boot.
Does anyone know what might be causing this?
ive never seen that warning (overcurrent) but i would get it replaced again, and use just one charger each week to isolate whichever may be the bad charger unit
To make it as short as possible, My original note 3's logic board died, so I purchased another Verizon note 3 from eBay that claimed to work, but had a bad charging port. Since my original N3s charging port worked perfectly fine, I figured I'd just swap the logic board over.
Well, the blasted thing still won't charge. It won't even recognize being plugged into USB. I've tried several different cords... Ranging from the stock USB 3.0 one, to the Galaxy Tab 3 cord... To cheap Gas station car plugs... nothing seems to work at all. I've tried wiggling the cable thinking maybe it may be loose, but that didn't work. I had NO issues with the charging / USB port when it had the original Logic board in it.
So, What are the chances the logic board has messed up USB / Charging circuit? Is it possible I didn't get something connected right? I figured if I did, Something wouldn't work... But everything does, Except usb. (Speakers work, Mic works for calls, home / soft button and lights work)
EDIT: I took it back apart and checked all my connections and refreshed them, Didn't change anything :/
I even tried this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mwTrlMomZ6o with no luck.
So it seems like the Logic board has bad USB. What are the chances of that happening?
Anyone at all? Gonna have to resort to a wall battery charger to use this phone.
Mine will not charge either and just started doing this about a week ago. Luckily I had bought 2 extra batteries that came with a wall charger. By the time one battery is dead the other is charged. My N3 only last about 6hrs or so.
Hi guys!
I have a Galaxy S4 i9505, with original android, and I noticed it's taking a long time to charge the battery. From 15% to 100% takes about 5 hours. I have a tool to measure the current in USB devices (Chearge Doctor, as sold in dx.com, aliexpress.com, etc) . It usually measures 1.4-1.8A. But now, it measures 0.36-0.4A, keeping 5-5.2V. I googled about it and there are some possible solutions, as 1) clean usb connector with isopropyl alcohol, 2) clean usb connector with some product for cleaning electrical contacts, 3) discharge all the battery and charge with cell phone off. I tried all, but without success.
I've also already changed the battery, the charger and the cable. The result is the same.
I don't know if it happend after update to Android 5.0. But yesterday I got a new update from Samsung, to Android 5.0.1, and sometimes I get 0.35-0.6A.
One possible solution would be change the USB hardware, but I'm avoiding to think in this solution
Do you have another idea?
Thank you!!
Try a different USB charger and see what your results are. A sudden drop in amperage like this usually is a sign that the charger itself has failed.
Hi Strephon, thanks for you reply!
Unfortunately, after my original charger, I tried two another chargers, one generic, but a generic that always worked with same voltage and current of original (tested with that tool), and one original charger of my iPad Air 2, that gave me 0.24A.
I've also tried change the USB cable and the battery. In these both case, I used a good cable I have here (tested before) e a new battery, thinking it could be the problem. The battery keep the charge normally, when it reaches 100%, so I think it isn't the problem.
Another idea?
Thanks!
Up :good:
My method is download the app "Galaxy Charging Current" from Play Store. This way I can see which one of my USB cables and/or charger is faulty.
If all of the USB cables and chargers are giving you the same results, your S4's USB port itself might be the one who is faulty.
