Hey guys,
Recently after flashing the latest AICP rom, my internal storage is no longer working!!! No matter what I did, I restored to back up, changed rom, format data or change data system file, nothing worked!!!
I cannot take any photo or screenshot or even download images due to limited storage eventhough I have 50 g worth of free space!!! I can only ever access anything through TWRP (that is a good sign, I think)!!!
Did some research, but was told that I need to qfil?! Can someone give me a simple and easy instruction to do that if it is what it takes to fix it? This is really the first time I ever heard of qfil!!! While I would say that I am comfortable with technology, this is reaally out there for me and I will be the first one to admit that I am a noob here!!!
Please help me out as I am really desperate and I really love this phone!!!

had this issue in my Lex727
for this u'll need an otg pen drive.
download latest twrp, & required rom
transfer them into pen drive
now boot into twrp and format storage via twrp itself(do not reboot yet)
update to the latest twrp/if u r on latest twrp u might wana change it and flash rom after that.
at last reboot ur device and voilaaaa ur internal storage shown as it is.
note: do not reboot until u are done with all of the steps above.
Hi,
Thanks for the response! I think that I might have already done what you mentioned! I have formatted the storage (do you mean the format data in the wipe function?)
Is it the same thing as an otg pen drive if I sideload latest rom into the device to flash? Because that is what l have done!
Thanks!

After you format internal storage through twrp( inwipe menu) its mendatory you flash latest/diffrent twrp. After that you may flash any rom and reboot once.
Let me know if these are the exact steps you took.

@ mods i realised my mistake in posting this in the wrong section and posted in the right one but people are replying to this one......so please dont delete this just yet
I in my infinite wisdom tried to mod a file on my phone. I did a titanium backup 1st but forgot to move it to my external SD Doh!
So that went wrong and now I'm stuck in a boot loop with only the stock recovery screen. Need to install stock rom and adb not recognized. (Im sure ill figure that) but my main question is, is there some way to recover data from the internal "sd" memory?
I really appreciate any advice anyone can give
I am not sure if I understood your question.. if you have CWM then just access recovery mode and you will have an option to mount the SD and you will be able to access all your files via USB from your PC
?
I don't have cwm . Like I said I only have the stock recovery screens I.e factory reset and download mode.
Do a factory reset, it won't erase your data.
Not sure that would work. It says wipe user data and factory reset so surely it would wipe my data. Plus I don't think that'll work anyway as I changed a file which caused the boot loop so I don't think a factory reset will fix that file.

what info are you trying to get off the device? the sms etc are stored on your data and will be wiped by a reinstall/factory reset
anything on the usb side for storage will not get touched
Factory reset wont clear anything on the internal_sd
thank you.....but
thanks for the replies peeps ill trust your knowledge (and have pressed the thanks button )
got a day off tomorrow so gonna try and get it up and running again,
Question though, being as i buggered up the stock rom wont flashing the new rom (when i figure out how) delete internal data either.
the reason im being carefull is i did some awesome illustrations (imo) for a childrens book im writing so hoping to save those.

it depends on if you use a wipe or non wipe rom, a non wipe wil lkeep qall the data stored on the android system intact but you might get bootloops if it doesnt replace the file you say you deleted
took the plunge......alls good

Thanks Richy99, i took the plunge and followed nasgilani's guide to installing stock rom, i was supprised when it completed that even my home screens etc were as they were before (appart from widgets being blank) and glad to see "as you all said" my data intact.
i shall be more cautious before i start messing with mods next time
basically internal usb storage of 11gb will never be touched when you factory reset nor wil lanything on an external sd card
the only thing that gets wiped is the 1gb internal space for the rom and data on that partition such as sms/email etc
I know this is an old topic but I noticed it wasn't exactly answered.. I'm trying to send mine back to the factory for warranty because the power button no longer functions. I have the stock rom and recovery and I'm stuck in boot loop because I can't execute factory wipe with the power button. I'd like to pull my data off of the internal SD but am unable to fix the bootloop without forcing the wipe.
I know metter is over now, it was just ur worrying, otherwise wiping cache, wiping data from recovery , flashing stock rom (wipe/non wipe) nothing.will erase data on internal memory.
Just for knowledge
aroma file manager is available, which works from recovery, it can work even you device stucked, unable to boot..
Edit ; sometime you feel ashamed, just come to know this is 6month old topic

Hey guys, I was using TWRP to install a custom rom, but I accidentally wiped EVERYTHING off the internal storage (Format Data) Now it's completely blank, nothing at all on it. My computer doesn't even detect the amount of space on the device, and I can't send any files to it. Did I just permanently destroy this phone? Can it be fixed?
Will TWRP be gone if I reboot the phone? Help please

I did that once on my ls980. I just downloaded a stock tot image and used lgflashtools to go back to stock. Worked like a charm.

Do not reboot your phone, 'cause as you say, you wipe everything, so there is no more Android on it. Plug to your PC and try use ADB command instead of Graphic Explorer. If "adb devices" return your device, then your good to go and push a ROM on your phone. Else, the only way is to go in Download Mode and restore your phone with .kdz or .tot file.
Thanks for the help guys, I found a solution.

So, if otg isn't working in twrp, what is everyone doing as a workaround?
My last device was the N5 and I would flash a different ROM a few times a month or more. I always preferred to wipe everything, including internal storage, then install the ROM clean and fresh.
With the OPT, I've just been doing normal wipe and flashing over top. Problem is that the sdcard is getting cluttered with folders from previous installs.
I was hoping to be able to wipe internal storage, connect the OPT to my laptop and sideload the ROM using adb. The OPT doesn't show up when I use 'adb devices'. It just says 'List of devices'... I've installed the naked and universal drivers. No luck.
So for now it looks like I'm stuck without a way to wipe the device clean and start fresh, unless someone else has figured out a way to get it to work.

I'm in the same situation
But I have rooted and Xposed + "kerneled" my phone several times since I have mine and you can be sure, wiping everything but internal storage is clearly the exact same thing as cleaning everything, since internal storage only contains files like your downloads, music, photos... and some apps files but never configuration or settings files.
You really start from scratch if you wipe everything but internal storage.

I would make a back up, and then copy it to the computer, but if you REALLY mess something up, that will do you no good because you won't be able to restore, my workaround for the OTG in TWRP was to get a Nexus 6 LOL
I have a Canadian S7 edge and it had been rooted for a long time, but I lost the root when I updated to android 7.0.0. I foolishly tried to root it the exact same way I had before (Odin and .tar file method) and now my phone refuses to fully power on. After the boot logo, some new "integrity verification" has failed and I get a message saying my only option is apparently to factory reset and loose everything since my last backup. I'm wondering if there's any way to either:
a) Recover my data first. My PC won't read my phone at the "integrity verification failure" screen, however, my phone can boot into download mode (still unreadable, though). I've tried a few sketchy phone recovery programs on free trials, and none of them were able to read my phone (though none seemed high-quality anyway).
b) Flash stock firmware and fix this all. I am currently downloading stock 7.0 firmware and CSC files for my region/carrier, and I'm wondering if flashing this will pass the "integrity" check and put me safely back to square one, or if I'll lose everything there too.
I don't have a custom recovery currently either, though I realize that wiping my phone would mean I could quickly do that. But caving and wiping my phone is the last thing I want to do here. Any help here would be extremely appreciated!
First of all .. I think flash Stock ROM will erase all data.
but if you can flash custom recovery by ODIN and mount USB Storage to PC and manual backup your data .. it will be good idea if it possible.

If I flashed custom recovery, what exactly do you mean by mounting USB Storage to PC? Is that something I could do in the custom recovery (TWRP for example)?
Also, I'm okay with losing system settings or apps, but internal storage like images and music is what I really want to save.

Yes .. TWRP Exactly has option to mount device internal storage or micro sd card storage to PC so you can transfer files between device and PC.

When I say "no-go" I mean it's something that won't work. TWRP looks like it doesn't work anymore, when I read your problem that you posted, and the warnings on the TWRP website and XDA page.
I did some reading and it looks like flashing my stock ROM shouldnot delete my internal storage data, so I think that might be my only chance. If it doesn't work either, I'll factory reset, because I don't want to risk the same error you had.

Hahaha true. Thanks for the help too!
Hello guys,
I ran the latest oxygen OS and TWRP recovery. Today I saw that the new official Oreo OTA is out so I downloaded the full zip and tried to dirty flash it in TWRP. It did not work out and i got an error, and people suggested to use twrp blu_spark for flashing the oreo build.
So I flashed twrp blu_spark in fastboot, booted into recovery and installed the oreo zip. Before I did that, TWRP always asked to type in my password to decrypt the files.
After flashing oreo my phone wouldn't boot into Android, it just stayed at a black screen while the LED was shining. I realized I had to **** up somewhere so I booted back into recovery, but TWRP doesn't ask for my password to decrypt my data and now everything in my internal storage has weird file names (which I suppose come from the decryption) and I don't know how I can decrypt my data again. I also flashed the normal TWRP but it didn't ask to decrypt my data either.
Can somebody please help me? I can't do anything at all at the moment and I don't want to wipe my system as I unfortunately don't have a backup (I have one, but that's a TWRP backup and in internal storage which is encrypted...).
Thank you so much in advance, you are my last hope
I think my problem is that I don't have a PIN setup in android, because it's actually bricked (had to flash the wrong oreo probably or so). Do you think TWRP will ask for a password again if I somehow manage to install the old oxygen os and setup a lock screen PIN again?
Same Issue here... Searching for a solution
I ended up wiping everything except internal storage. I then pushed the old oxygen os to the internal directory and flashed it (in hope it wouldn't change anything in my internal storage/sd card). Looks like I was wrong. After flashing it also apparently wiped my complete internal /sdcard.
All data gone. Nothing I can do now anyway. If somebody would have known a better way to decrypt my data again with a broken android, feel free to comment - feeling really bad now, so many photos etc. on it. At least learned my lession to always take a back up, but normally I'm super careful and not flashing anything that would wipe/brick something on my device. This freaking oreo update is making me crazy.

If you have broken your android/system like I (it didn't want to boot into the system anymore after flashing) I think there's almost no chance. Atleast my device is clean now and I can't do anything at all and my data is forever gone now. But I learned my lesson and you probably too - always take a backup.
I mean okay, after I thought about it it's not too bad as I didn't have a lot of important photos on it and I fortunately backed up my whatsapp to google drive before playing around so yeah, atleast a clean device now and will look for a nice oreo ROM.
If you think you can find a solution good luck, but I think the only way to get TWRP to decrypt the internal storage partition again is to set up the display lock in your ROM again - and if you have a bricked ROM and flashing a new one it will wipe /sdcard completely like in my case...

I don't think there's much chance. I was able to see all those weird filenames in internal storage when connected to my PC, but I could not copy or change files to internal storage. If this would have worked, there might be a chance to decrypt the data manually on your PC if you find how to do it/if it's even possible.
I seriously think there's no good solution for our problem. :/

I gotta try everything to save my data, too many important things for work on there. I was too ****ing eager to get oreo
I've done the exact same thing. Problem now is that TWRP isn't seeing anything on the phone, there is nothing there. So I can't root with Magisk or install custom recovery.

Not much chance to get back the data if you can't boot into android at all. You can wipe everything completely and then copy your old backup to your internal storage which will work again once wiped/decrypted. I haven't found a solution to save the data without wiping, I tried different twrp versions like the normal one or blu_spark but none asked to decrypt data and in my internal storage my files were left all encrypted with those weird long file names.
Are you trying to say that all my data is lost even tho I know decryption key? All I did was update to Android O and I had backup and TWRP is showing that my internal storage is full but the files are all encrypted it wont ask me for decryption key. What can I do

Exactly. That's the weird problem. If I'm right we had to **** up something badly so that TWRP doesn't even know that our internal storage is encrypted and displaying the (encrypted) files just how they are. The problem in my case was that I couldn't even copy the encrypted files from internal storage to my PC or moving files from my PC to my device. The whole partition was just locked, I couldn't do anything on it, neither adb push or whatever else. Tried different TWRP versions but none asked me to decrypt.
I think the mistake is that if you install a new OS version which is somehow not backward/dirty flash compatible (like in my case the new oreo update) your pin/pattern will get deleted and because of that TWRP does not ask you to decrypt as the ROM is telling that you don't have a password set up! But the problem is when you install a new ROM, it wipes /sdcard so the data is lost if you don't find a way to somehow decrypt your internal storage. :/
Really bad to know you can't do anything at all even tho you know your decryption key - I hope someone finds a solution. I for myself wiped because I don't have so much time to look for a solution.
