The Pre-Installed Screen Protector - OnePlus 6T Questions & Answers

Hi XDA!
I just got my 6T out of the box. I'm tryin to remove the pre-installed screen protector. It's not aligned well and it irritates me. However, I couldn't manage to remove it. Is there any trick ? Did you guys remove it and how?

You can remove it starting from one of the four corners, only using your fingernail for it. I did that yesterday and it came off pretty quickly and smoothly (I replaced it with a dbrand prism).
Or you can use a razor blade, the glass underneath won't be scratched with it.

I did exactly this, including the replacement with Prism!

Oh great just like me! While we're at it, did the behavior of the fingerprint scanner change after you switch to the prism? Mine sometimes works great, sometimes just refuses to unlock.
I guess I need to re-setup.

Scanner has been fine for me but I re-setup all my fingerprints after installing Prism. It's also recommended by OnePlus to do this as well.

Mission accomplished guys! It didn't came out in one piece though, lol.

Weird, I have my Zagg on and it looks fine. Unless of course your talking about when the screen is off.
I'm using an XtremeGuard which I got off eBay for $2.50. It is wonderful!! It had bubbles and stuff when the screen was off when I first put it on, but EVERYTHING cleared up within 2-3 days. I used a mild soapy water to put it on, so it was kinda "rainbow" looking when the screen was lit up, but all of that has since dried up. The screen is crystal clear both on and off. If you didn't know there was a screen protector on there, you would see it. You can tell by touching it, it feels a little more grippy, which I actually like. Also it hasn't intefered with the performance of the touchscreen as well, I'm 100% satisfied with it.

Mine is still as naked as the day I bought it. Mint condition, too.

Mine looked terrible at first too, but after about a day, I guess the liquid fully dried and it didn't look cloudy anymore.
Bought a 3-pack from a Sprint store.
Don't use the anti-glare one. It significantly lowers the image quality.
It's akin games which use the film grain effect, except here you'd want the clarity instead of fancy effects.
Thank you all for your responses, I really appreciate it. I guess it only looks bad because I got a few scratches on the screen protector itself but I guess that's why you buy them in the first place. I might call to get a replacement if it gets any worse, these have a lifetime warranty.

That is exactly the reason I don't use a screen protector. They are made out of plastic and will scratch easily. The glass that is covering the LCD is made out of glass and VERY difficult to scratch. Seems like a waste of money to me. I had 3 iPhones and never had a scratch in the glass.
Did not work for me
I bought an invisi shield Saturday and they put it on my phone, I have had problems typing with it. I even tried to recalibrate the typing but it was not even able to type the first letter. Therefore, I took the front shield off and i am able to type with no problem now. Sucks.. maybe they put it on wrong because my wife's phone is working fine with it on. Life time warranty on it so Im going to take it back and have them try it again.

How is the fit on that screen protector? Does it fit exactly all the way around? Is there a space around the edges?
Thanks!
I just got a screen protector put on mine (first time ever having one on) and now it screws up my swyping in... swype... it confuses it... messed with settings and everything.... pain in the...
+1 for Anti-Glare.
I know most people do not like them because they "reduce" the colors or quality of the screen, but I like the fake that it provides a smooth surface and doesn't leave any fingerprints compared to Crystal-Clear screen protectors
I got the Zagg (actually I am on the second one, as the first came off in my pocket and got covered with lint).
I should say that Zagg is great, they sent me a new one with no questions asked and even waived the shipping, since the replacement was requested so quickly after purchase.
In any case, I am now second guessing my decision after viewing a youtube video on the scratch resistance of the screen.
Just go to youtube and search for "HTC EVO screen test". (sorry, as a new user I am unable to post the link).
Here's the link. Pretty impressive.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eeoAl-94bks
I've used all kinds of screen protectors for all my devices until the ZuneHD, which is supposed to have Corning Gorilla Glass, supposedly super scratch resistant. Long story short, i pulled it out of my pocket where it was by itself and it had a nice fat scratch on the surface. Brought it back to Best Buy, got another one, and swearing to never trust any claims to scratch resistance.
Using a clairvue clear on my Evo 4g, and clairvue antiglare on a tp2, and a martin fields on a tp1, all 3 are well protected and i've never been happier.

Battle Scars *OUCH*

So I'm trying hard to keep my phone from getting even one scratch until my cases come in, which should be any day now.....
....then today I freakin' drop it on the concrete by accident.
I feel like $#!t ...my heart sank.... damn it!!!
BUT, on the bright side I am very surprised on how well it took the hit. The phone dropped and actually rolled a couple of times, yet it only marked up the plastic/metal looking trim that goes around the phone.
By any chance do you think the rim piece would be available later for a replacement part? Gosh I sure hope so. I'm desperate to go rip off the trim at the T-Mobile store
...I keep telling myself....it could have been worse right?
Bottom line: For how hard it hit the concrete, I'm impressed...since it was dark I was thinking it was going to be way worse, until I held it to the light to see the damage. Thank goodness for not a cracked screen....
BTW: I have the 3M screen protector. If it wasn't for that it would have for sure had some mean scratches on the screen....sigh..
Ouch.. I did the same with my new Touch Pro (current phone) and it also ended up with some dings on the sides, but that phone's partially metal with a plastic screen.
Since one of the frequent criticisms of this series of phones is the build quality, glad it looks like the Vibrant's made pretty well after all if it can survive that with only cosmetic damage.
you should put a warning in the title, those pics are way to graphic.

Yea I agree that the Vibrant is well made. I've read a lot of some people commenting on the material and all, but obviously they have no idea how well the made it is. Heck, I'm kind of glad it wasn't heavy and bulky.....
"THE heavier they are the harder they fall..."
Kudos Vibrant....just can't wait to put a case on it to mask the scars....Soldier.

I dropped mine on the sidewalk few days ago and it just scratched up the top of the back lid so I just swapped it. My heart stopped for 2 minutes and I was afraid to look at my screen because when I dropped my hd2 it shattered the screen

Does the 3m screen protector reduce the quality of the SAMOLED screen a lot, or make it sticky?

dam that hurt me. i just got mine last night, hope i dont do the same
A gel skin would cover those up nicely. I decided to get one in the first place because even though I love the feeling of this phone without the skin on, I hate scratches/dents a lot more.
I had a bad track record with my G1 too... dropped it like 4 times
You should link me to where you bought your screen protector. I got Tmobile generic ones, but they suck, so I bought one from eBay. What I've got was this super thick, weird feeling protector, leaves too many bubbles, sucked. Bought another one, which is identical to ones you buy at the store, works good, but doesn't cover the bottom part of the phone.

I got mine from ClearFreak via Ebay - you cannot even tell it is on, I do have one air bubble trapped and it's a bit annoying on the bottom of the screen, I always feel it when swyping
Don't be too sad. I got a screen scratch the other day. Of course its real tiny and when I point it out to others, they can't even see it. But its all I see.

At least you got it over with. Now no more worries about dropping your phone. lol
At least you can cover it with a case, unlike scratches on a screen.
Ouch! That looks like it hurts.

The best one IMO is the one from clearfreak, which is the one I have. Just make sure when applying it, to follow their directions. You have to spray it with water, wet your fingers and squeegee the water out with the little tool it comes with.
It's made out of 3M and you can't even tell it's on. All the other screen protectors like the generic ones really mess up the touch response. It's not as responsive from what I've noticed. Stay away from chEapBAY if you know what I mean...those are all pieces of junk from china, hence 5x protectors for $0.99US

Same one I have and I love it....the 3M stuff is awesome, thank goodness if it wasn't for it I would have definitely have scratches from the fall.
You should write them and ask to exchange your screen protector. I actually got mine swapped out because I had some annoying lint on the sides and couldn't get it out so they swapped it.

Very interesting you asked that because I was curious at first as well. However, I must say that once I did put it on, it didn't alter the quality at all.
As for it being sticky, I assume you mean on the surface when you glide your fingers across it right? Well...it depends if your hands are dry or not....it really doesn't bother me and I think it works fine...the only time it may be a little resistant is when your hands are sweaty. I think that would go for most all screen protectors though...

weird blueish green lines

So I don't know if it's me being crazy or what. Has anyone else noticed a weird blueish green diagonal line pattern across the screen/screen protector on this phone? T mobile version...I don't know if it's been there the whole time or maybe when I sprayed Windex on the phone, well a cloth, then wiped the phone if that had something to do with it or what..just need a second opinion on this to make sure the screen/digitizers not effed or not. It's so I'll prominent on or off the same. It's like a blur gradient..I'll try to take a photo with another phone..any thoughts and opinions would be great..
Don't spray Windex on phone/tv screens. I heard it's bad, like it eats layers away damaging the screen.

Yep i just noticed that today as well, i don't think its the screen protector, i think it may be the screen. Something to do with the implementation of the fingerprint reader through the screen possibly?

It's the protector, I pulled it off and now it's not there. Then just to be sure I laid it back on and the lines were back. I thought the same as u, about the fingerprint reader too at first..had to pull it off to verify.
Interesting, wonder why the protector has those on it.

I got my AmFilm Glass screen protector installed today

For those that don’t know, these are the kind with glue. It is very easy to install as long as you follow the directions. I have been using this kind of screen protector for a while now but this is my first experience with this brand. Everything was well packaged and organized. The installation tray makes things really easy to get the protector lined up correctly. Just make sure that your screen is clean and take your time. The finger print scanner still works and everything. My Spigen Tough Armor case still fits just fine as well.
I might try one of these as well, how much did you pay for it?

At first I thought the pic was of it just sitting on your phone. Looks hazy and like it's sticking up off of the screen a lot.

I have as well. Fingerprint scanner is not or miss. Makes these cases almost not an option to me.

Had to do it, removed the screen protector...what a difference!

I contemplated removing the factory screen protector for the last month as I hate how my fingers catch the edges, how the dust gathered along the edges as well as how it affects the fingerprint scanner. Well I removed it today and added the liquid screen protector (which with a little commen sense actually worked to protect my screen on my Note 10 Plus for almost a year from any scratches) and this phone is so much nicer. Your fingers glide across the screen and the finger print reader works so much better know then with the protector. The screen also just looks better...clearer, I'm not sure how to describe it but I sure love this phone even more now.
Liquid Glass, it's been around for years. Hydrophobic.
It's nanometers in thickness. Bonds on the molecular level.
It's also a real ***** to remove especially around the edges. Mineral spirits, lots of it and clean clothes. If you go to another system it may not need removal or it could cause adhesion failure.
I'm not very keen on it for this application for a variety of reasons.
Unfortunately the protection 1 coat provides is almost nonexistent. On cars you need minimum 3 coats, 5+ is better with Liquid Glass; it's formulated to be used like this.
5+ coats looks like a layer of clear coat, great for black cars.
The stuff you're using not so sure it can be "layered".
Don't count on this to save the screen from even sand; it's simply not thick enough. It will repel water and make cleaning easier, eventually it wears off of heavily used areas.
No added impact resistance.
Plastic urethane screen protectors don't feel as good but provide excellent scratch/marring protection and even some limited impact protection.

Where did you get your phone from because I really don't see a "factory" screen protector? I bought mine paid in full from Samsungs website but I really don't see a factory screen protector on it.
Mine was purchased directly from Samsung Canada and it had the factory screen on it...you can tell if you look at the front camera....you can see the circle around the camera.

I looked and quite closely too and I don't see anything around my camera hole.. At least nothing that resembles a screen protector cut-out.. I'm guessing some have them and some don't.
That is pretty strange, I cannot remember the last Samsung phone I have purchased that didn't have a factory installed screen protector.

Apparently this is the case; some do, some don't.
You can see a small bit of exposed screen all around the edge of the screen protector if it has one.
Lame of Samsung not to include this on some for at least temporarily protection.

That factory one is really pretty good.
Leave it on until it wears out. Have a one ready.
I found the wet apply ones are the easiest to put on perfectly. They last about 3-4 months maybe more, give good scratch protection and a little impact protection as well.
Yes I still have the factory one on it, thanks. I did purchase amfilm on Amazon for when factory one wears out. I was tempted to order the Whitestone dome but way too expensive.

So yours didn't come with one. We are talking about two different things.
On one hand you have a factory installed edge to edge screen protector with a cut out for the camera.
On the other hand you have a shipping film added to keep the screen from getting scuffed when shifting around in the box.
I usually remove mine when it starts to get messed up. Then it's like getting a new phone!

Mine came from Samsung Canada with the preinstalled screen protector, but I was unhappy with the responsiveness of the fingerprint sensor, so I peeled it off. What a difference. The fingerprint sensor works instantly and the screen feels much smoother.
