Good idea, I am having this issue, I had it with my S3, on the bottom of the phone, and my S4 is having it at the top of the phone.
I am going to carry on using the phone when it heats up too much, because it shouldn't damage the phone just for you to use it. If it does break, then I will send it back saying sort it out. I aint having Samsung sell a dodgy phone to me or anyone because they are just trying to keep in front of the competition. It's stupid.
Hopefully they will have common sense in the future. I have had the S1, S2 and S3 and S4, and been happy with all so far, but a bit annoyed about the heat issue on the S4 more than the one on the S3 because they have had enough people saying about it previously.

I had the S, S2, S3 and never had heat issues like the S4, only after an 1hr of GPS or gaming but not as much - I can cook an egg on my S4 just while surfing the web, what a nice feature!
When i dont touch for a while it is at 33C, but as soon as I read emails or light web browsing it reaches 44C, if then on youtube 48-55C.
when it get hot the battery % drops significantly and then when it cools down it recharge itself!
I was somewhere on S4 forum writed, this heating come most if device is on 4G (LTE) network. Try put on 3G (HSPA) or 2G (GSM) and you will see (and feel) device is much colder...

No difference at all, even tried 2G
There are times my s4 gets real hot. Can't even touch the screen! The worst it got was when I did an antutu stability test. If I remember it said like 45*c.

Normally heat isn't a problem at all.
But sitting in a bus in direct sunlight with max brightness made it totally hot!
I was only browsing, so it was due to the screen.
When I had to make a phone call I had to keep phone a bit away from my ear.
It took 10-15 minutes to cool down again.
I think every single S4 WILL get really hot under same conditions.
Don't know how if this would be same for other brands like HTC One or iPhone

Yesterday I used GPS for 15 mins on power save mode and still got at 48C, battery dropped significantly.
I haven't see many votes yet which makes me think that it is not a common problem...
Standby - <27C° Browsing, video and other simple tasks - <45C° Games - <60C° So,overheating as well. Unfortunately.

No issues at all. I have browsed for over an hour with no warm up. It warms a little when playing games or watching videos but no more than other phones ihave had and it doesn't justify the word 'overheat'.

Just got mine yesterday and I must say the heat is very annoying, never had any problems with my s3. While with this one honestly it burns my face after 10 min talk.
Should I exchange it or just keep on using it ?

Thanks @ Cale77
Ideal temp 27.5 (C)
saving mode activated and nothing running in the back ground. Is it good or bad?
When mine got hot it would be from simple tasks like browsing the net for 10 minutes. At its peak, you could not touch your face with it to make a call. (Think its update fixed it though, must have been software problem for me).
No issues so far.
Do you run with auto-brightness? What conditions do you experience this in?
Hot ambient temperature, sunlight?

Auto brightness is on and working and still when i do few things on the phone the heat start to raise in an obvious way at the back of the phone around the camera area, then if i do make a phone call seriously the heat is very annoying to a degree that makes you just want to finish the call cause its very hot.
Hmm.
I guess there's a wide spread then. From perfectly fine to absurdly bad and maybe even defective. :\
I came across this bug earlier today and just tested it out for the past hour or so. When the phone is on WiFi it heats up twice as fast and gets hotter than it would have just on mobile data. Depending on how many bytes your phone is transferring will depend on how hot it gets which is why some of you are experiencing freezes/reboots when updating multiple apps at the same time through the play store.

Jeepers, what the heck is up with Qualcomm? The 810 was a disaster, and now you guys with the 820 have been posting all kinds of issues, I really feel for you guys.
Are you on 2.4ghz or 5? I noticed on 5ghz the battery drains very quickly, the speeds and wall penetration is nice though.

I guess. I'm just lucky or not as picky. Zero lag. Battery gets me 6 to 8 hours sot a day over 18 to 24 hours. No heat issues.
I've had the g2, g3, nexus 6, Droid turbo, galaxy s6 and this. Best phone I've ever used. With out question.
My only complaint so far is slow motion on the camera can be choppy and skip frames.
Million sold bound to be some Duds, I'm just glad mine wasn't one of them. Or I was and I'm too naive to see it. In which case I would say ignorance is bliss LOL

Normal heating
I did hands on this but did not find excessive heating issue during the wifi use , Will not say their is no heating . Same issue raises during the use of heavy app . But I would again say its normal heating .
My s8 heats up a bit not too much but enough to make my fingers uncomfortable from taking in too much heat. I have the screen resolution set on 1080p. Anyone else facing this issue?
When you're doing intensive stuff the phone will heat up, all of them heat up.
So far the S8 has run cooler than any of my past snapdragon devices.

It's winter down here is Australia RN and Idk if it's due to this but the phone doesn't heat up anymore. Even after heavy use. Could be due to several software updates the phone received

Hi Everyone,
I recently got my S10+ and if i'm using the camera a bit while listening to music, I find the left side getting warm and even hot right below the Bixby Button, no other apps running to my knowledge.
Is this normal?

I had a oneplus 6 before and it never got hot when doing simple tasks, only after taking lots of photos, the camera module would get warm (normal) or when gaming (normal). It seems to get hot just using bluetooth buds and taking a few photos. So everyones will get warm in that area after a bit of regular use?
Could it be the battery calibrating? I saw someone mention it might get warm in the beginning but go away after a few days?

Viper

If my memory serves me right that is the location on the heat pipe on the s10 plus does not explain why it's getting hot but that's why it's in that area. The cpu is situated close to that spot too. I
On the oneplus the cpu is located at the top so when holding the phone the heat is at the top so you cannot feel it as much could be the reason .

I don't use the camera much so cannot speak for that but I do play pubg mobile and other games on it and the heat can be felt in that area. There is always a little more heat there compared to the rest of the phone even under normal use. Most phones use the phones body to help disperse heat as they don't have fans I think it is more likely this than an issue with the phone. Are you recording with the camera or just taking photos with it ?
OP, you need to come up with some numbers in regards to what temp the battery or CPU is at .
First thing I noticed with the s10+ is that it feels warmer in the hands than my previous galaxy devices, note 9, note 8, so etc. Its the frame and material design that I believe to be the case for better heat dissipation and faster CPU.

I can try to attach a photo later, what i've seen after installing an app to monitor cpu heat, is roughly around 110 F for the CPU, sometimes even when i'm not using it, the battery will be a bit under 100 F. Is this normal? I also noticed uusuallly more than half the ram is being used even when it seems I have no apps open.

Post your Battery usage here. Lets see what we get with these new devices.
Is Bad battery...
Can't say I'm very impressed so far, I switched from a snapdragon s10 plus. Stand by battery drain was never a problem on the s10. I would finish the day with at least 50% battery left. Less than 3 hours screen time and I'm at 40%. And that's running at 60 fps, 1080p. Snapdragon was so much more efficient for me.

So far, not too impressed either, getting 5.5 hours of screen on time, with no video watching or gaming. Literally bit of instagram, whatsapp, messenger, camera and spotify. This is at 120hz FHD+.
This will honestly be my my ''normal usage'' but still having removed it from charge at 9.30am and after 12 hours on 20% is a bit sad to some point, specially after those youtube videos with 6.5 hours of screen on time playing games and and filming videos and what not... Hopefully they will get a fix for it, this is UK version with the (not so lovely) Exynos...
Coming from an LG G6 lets say battery wise Im having same performance
For me 6 hours with 120hz, that literally destroys the battery, switching back to 60hz you get 1 - 2 hours more....watching youtube is no issue, but as soon as you get to any scrolling or
multitasking it all goes away.. especially with that 120hz, also it's not very efficient in standby, you can go to sleep with 100 percent and wake up with 93 or something like that..
Hopefully they'll get an update
Not awesome battery life, if I wasn't careful I need to charge twice a day
50% left, 2h33 min screen on. I disconnected charger at 12am, woke up at 7am. Lost 5% during the night with 4g on. I was playing a lot today. Screen at 120hz
It's so unbelievable bad... Damn :/
I'm glad i.ordered the Snapdragon version
This is always the case when buying Samsung flagships early. An update comes out a few months after to address the issue.
Hmm, I have to agree with you. Upon further use, I don't think stand by drain is the issue. It seems to be more app optimisation. Have to give it some time for developers to optimise their apps for this processor.

Don't get me wrong I totally agree with you. There is even speculation that exynos doesn't get the same Sony sensors for the camera. Instead we get Samsung made one's. Totally not cool for sure. I imported a snapdragon s10 last year and it was amazing for battery life profomance. But honestly, I can fully charge this phone in just over an hour. So to say that the shorter battery life is a major problem is just not true imo.

I understand, but I haven't come even close to needing to charge the phone during the day yet. I'd say I'm losing about 10 to 15% more battery then I did on the s10 so all good for now.

Yes, "usage pattern". I'm charging twice a day with the +, something that I did years back..
This is the only complaint i have so far, battery life. It is not disturbingly awful, but I usually have to charge it in the late afternoon, so I dont run out of juice in the evening (I am getting 3.5 - 4 hours of screen time). Situation is even less annoying since It charges really fast. I am running optimised battery plan, bluetooth, wifi, data on. Other than that it is a beast, I am fully enjoying android freedom over my iphone X. Battery will probably improve with updates though.
First and first full charge, 120hz all time. Let's see next days.
