I have the S10+ (Exynos) and at the same time an iPhone Xs Max, both in the same WLAN at home and the office (but the problem also exists on the road with mobile data):
When I get an e-mail (i use the gmail app on both devices) the iPhone notfication is about 5-10 minutes earlier than the one of the S10+.
Some push-notification (news, results) do appear on the same time, but others have even more difference (about 20 minutes later on the S10+; but probably the sender of the news sends them not at the same time).
But I'm worried about gmail. Most of the times (but not everytime) when I'm using the S10+ the e-mail notification is as fast as on the iPhone. But as soon as I put it on the desk and don't use it for a couple of minutes, the delay of the notification is significant.
I didn't see any settings that this would happen. And I don't see anything that I can change about sync settings that it really pushes.
Any ideas what I could try?

Oh, I didn't see that one yet. Thanks!
I will give it a try now
first impressions:
it's a bit hit or miss. Most of the mail came at the same time on both phones. but 2 or 3 were delayed again, not by much, probably about 2-3 minutes.
So it's better now, but still not perfect.
Check your push and fetch settings in Gmail and make sure they are set to the same intervals

Having said this, it could simply be that even on the same interval, they are both checking at different times. Not sure they is anything to be done about that.

you can do by either holding down on an app, click on app info and then select optimize battery usage or by searching "battery optimize battery usage in the settings search. at the top of that screen just toggle between "Apps not optimized" and "All".
That helped a lot with this optimization.
The setting about the sync interval is not in the gmail app (anymore?). At least I can't find it
I still have some problems with notification delays.
When I use the phone every couple minutes then everything is fine. But if it lays on the desk without using it it starts delaying the notifications. It seems, like the phone cuts the data connection.
I even installed an app called "PNF no root" that (should) make a ping every other minute so the network is kept busy. But not even that helps (but I'm not sure if it is optimized for Android 9).
Is there somewhere an option I'm missing? Is there an option to keep the network alive all the time or should that be by default?

I have the same problem. When i leave my phone locked and i go AFK, i sometimes don't even get a CALL or notification.
Example 1:
I go to bed and leave my phone, my girlfriend used Facebook Messenger to call me and sent me a msg but none of it went through and its 'white ticked' from her end.
Example 2:
I lock my phone and do my own stuff for few hours, did not get any notification for my games nor messages on whatsapp or facebook or even a real phone call from my family.
Not sure what is wrong, all of those apps above have battery optimization turned off already.

Estoy indignado. Mi viejo S8 funcionaba perfecto.

So after being a long time apple user and long time iTunes hater ... I managed to sell my iphone 4 and bought a samsung galaxy S4, did the same for my other half...
Keep in mind, this is a brand new, no-root, default phone.
The issue basically is notifications, for whatsapp ( at the moment since I haven't set up anything else that requires push, besides gmail). The issue is once I turned the screen off, either manually or by itself. whatsapp notifications randomly stop arriving until I turned on the screen, completely close the app and open it again, the same goes for 2 other devices ( 3 in total), this happens with wifi or mobile data
Device #1. new s4,
Device #2 new s4
Device #3 Samsung galaxy young running 4.1.2 JB.
Now, device #3 belongs to a friend of mine who told of these issues a couple of months ago, however I did pay attention as I just figured it was network connection or wifi or whatever be it.
I've googled the hell out of this and it is apparently an android issue:
it's not telco related in my case, because i had NO ISSUES on my iphone 4 nor my best half's 4s.
Anyway, hopefully someone here has been through something similar and been able to fix it? I've searched the forums and there's apparently a widespread issue, but not fix as of 4.2.2?

Hi,
I just recently switched to a samsung galaxy s4 ( two actually, one for me,
one for GF), before that we used iphone 4 and 4s, never had an issue with
whatsapp notifications until I switched this passed friday. The issue is
once the phone goes into sleep mode, be it mobile data or wifi, I have to
force close the app and open again to receive notifications that I got
hours ago if I don't continously check.
I've googled the hell out of it and found your FAQ, as well as plenty other
sites with the same issue except no solution.
From your FAQ:
1. tried re-installing directly from direct download link (
http://www.whatsapp.com/android/current/WhatsApp.apk) and not from play
store
2. tried rebooting.
3. notifications are set properly
4. google+ is disabled ( hangouts) ( tried enabling it, same result)
5. Wifi is set to always on.
Note this is on stock, brand new phones and apparently it's a wide spread
issue:

Sadly, both
Do you lock the screen while whatsapp is open? Or do you choose whatsapp and then lock the screen?
If whatsapp is still running and on the screen, and you lock the screen, it's like the app just stops checking.. I've had this with multiple phones and its a whatsapp problem, not the phone.

No, the opposite. For me, whatsapp only worked and checked for msgs if i closed the app and then locked the screen. I would usually come back to the homescreen or something. But if i locked over whatsapp, it would stop checking or take a really long time.
But since you say you've done both, I'm kinda stumped.

Currently trying to installing .763, updated from .762, but whatsapp servers are probably getting busted as can't even verify my number.
Bro install Whatsapp+.
Google and download the apk, install and see if it helps.
If not, the only way is to root the S4 and install push notification fixer from play store. It modifies andriod to check for msges every 5mins. That will solve your problem for sure.

Hey mate,
I've probably tried all apps or methods by insanity to try getting this problem fixed. Unfortunately, nothing positive turned out.
Now I'm trying to off my screen when whatsapp is open, however, I still think it's unbelievably stupid to do so even if it works to get push notification. How can I go back to whatsapp whenever i wanna put the phone back in my jeans pocket? It then seems whatsapp would become the new homescreen?!?!?
Anyone got a real solution to this???
Also having this problem. Screen off, screen on - sometimes whatsapp just doesn't want to receive/send messages. Other times it's working properly.
Have you guys disabled Samsung Push? Have you disabled any system apps at all? Also, do you have the problem even when your phone has a good signal?
I'm also trying to find out the reason for this problem.

I do disable some system app like weather, finance and stuff like those. To me, what I can confirm is the independence of problem from the signal strength since I've been using the same service provider before upgrading to Jelly Bean and there used to be problem free with the push notification.
This is the result I got last night:
- open whatsapp -> close whatsapp -> homescreen -> screen off = no push
- open whatsapp -> close whatsapp -> free ram -> screen off = no push
- open whatsapp -> screen off = push
Conclusion:
- it is not related to free ram
- it is the problem that the andriod system turn off the app upon screen off (or sleep)
Plus.
I tried installing Push Notification Fixer to introduce "heartbeat" to maintain the connectivity, unfortunately, it DOES NOT work in my case.
Let's keep in view the development. At least we are not alone and hope either Whatsapp or Google can fix this.
Check out this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2357417
It's a thread which guides you how to disable some allegedly useless google services in order to save battery life when idle. It works, but I think it might have been what's caused my whatsapp to go crazy. I even asked in the thread and some others have the same problem.
But if most other people in this thread haven't disabled said google services, that doesn't make any sense.
Mate. Trust me i know this issue exist on all andriod. i googled the hell out of it because i quarrelled with my partner a few times due to delay in replies. its just the way the kernel is written for stock andriod. you can try everything but it wont work. your only solution is to root and install push notification fixer from play store.

This isn't an issue with android it's an issue with whatsapp. Every android phone I've ever owned has had this issue with whatsapp. Whatsapp need to update their app so it still notifies if it was the last app open whilst the screen locks.
I just press home after I reply and let it lock its second nature to me. The bug is in whatsapp where if it is the last displayed whilst screen lock notifications don't work. You could try changing the conversation tone that might help.

That's wrong... It was perfectly fine, instantly receiving whatsapp messages in my phone no matter what. Something I've changed caused it to stop working.
My problem isn't only the notifications, it's the actual whatsapp messages aswell. Something killed the Whatsapp wakelocks, now my whatsapp isn't causing any wakelocks and when the phone is idle it does not check for messages.
Hello guys,
I'm new to the forum
I notice that there's a slight delay opening Contacts (3 seconds+) and Dialer (1 second+) in my Note 3.
However after opening it once, there's no delay opening it the second time,
unless I clear the Contacts Apps in the running apps and open it again.
I'm not sure if this happens from the fist time I unbox it; I didn't really pay attention at the time.
Maybe this happens after I turn off and uninstall updates on some of the bloatwares, but I'm not sure.
ROM is stock Samsung, everything is still stock. Just some updates to some of the stock apps.
I haven't installed any new apps yet. However, I do turn off and uninstall updates on some of the bloatware.
I've also changed the 3 settings (cant remember the names, animator or something) on the Developer Options to OFF.
And I've removed the S Voice from the Home Button too.
The Note 3 is the Exynos one. Stock Samsung.
There are about 800 contacts, all google contacts. They are also synced, together with gmail. These contacts are imported from BB 10 OS, and some have pictures from the BBM.
Does anyone else have this problem, and is there a fix for this? I've searched the forum, seems like some have this issue, but I can't find any real fix for this.
Thanks!
Sounds normal to me. It has to re-launch the app, and the app then has to re-scan all your contacts. 800 contacts is a lot to scan through, so 1-5 seconds is to be expected.
No lag here. Did you try a restart with cache wipe? Usually that solves similar problems.
Sent from my SM-N9005 using xda app-developers app
I noticed the same lag. I actually noticed it on my previous phone (SGS 3). At that time, I used GoContacts/Dialer, which I thought might be the cause of that. After removing it, same lag with the stock dialer/contacts.
Besides, I was a flash-addict, and I noticed that on every ROM I tried.
And now, even if it's a bit quicker, I still notice it on my new Note 3 (@stock/rooted). But unlike on my SGS3, it's only the first time you open dialer/contacts that it appears (as long as the system doesn't kill the process).
I wonder if it might be a good idea to force keeping that process opened.

Solved. It turned out that my issue was caused by turning off Chat ON app.
I actually turned it off when I first got the phone, and now I tried to turn it back ON.
The lag is actually reduced to 1-1.5 seconds (much more acceptable than 3 seconds).
For others with the same issue, hope this helps

Glad to know you found resolution to your problem. Like another post suggested, when you are syncing your contacts to a device through a 3rd party application such as GMail, Exchange, Yahoo etc... The application runs an API in the background at application launch which pulls all your information onto the device. When you automatically sync, your device periodically sends a request to the server for contact details, task details, calendar details etc...
800 contacts and whatever other events you're syncing will definitely take time. If you press & hold your home button and your swiping your application out of memory and then reloading, like suggested, this is going to take a few seconds. By turning Chat On back on, this has limited the lag which is acceptable to you. This definitely is not a "problem" as I've initially stated but instead more of a communications lag between the device, your server and the API which is engaging in the communications.
Hope this helps!

Hi guys, I have a big problem with ZTE Axon 7,
I got the chinese version with Google Launcher and I noticed that I'm not getting notifications properly. It's really annoying , for example when I get an email on Gmail I get the pop up and hear the sound, that I got an email, but when I receive a message on Messenger, or on Viber, the phone do nothing, it's like it's in deep sleep or I don't know, somehow Gmail brings me the notifications but messenger and other applications not, even facebook missing to notify me sometimes that I got a post on my wall or someone replied on my comment.
Everytime I have to reopen the apps every one of them to get notifications, and I noticed that about 1 hour later ZTE somehow close them automatically, in the MI Assistant I set Viber and Messenger to auto-run, but still nothing, what should I do? I don't get notifications. I tried to turn off every Power Saving setting, everything that related to power saving is turned off, I even disallowed the deep sleep for these applications but still nothing, factory and cache reset and still nothing.

I have the US version but I ran into this too with my MagicJack app .. You can try ... though not sure if it will help ... it seemed to help on my MJ app ... going to the recent apps list and find the app that is closing and click the little lock icon in the upper right corner.
I did this because when I cleared the list it would close MJ app and not restart like it would do on my old Samsung Galaxy S3 ... After doing that .. I noticed that it kept running when I left the phone set for a while .. it would still shut down every so often but the app itself has never been real stable so that may be the app itself crashing or something.
So if you "Lock" the apps in the recent apps section ... it may keep them running even if the phone tries to clear out recent apps after it sits for a while.

lol .. i may have the terminology wrong... but here is a screen shot for you. With that lock enabled even if I click "clear all" and everything disappears from the recent apps list .. MJ .. and as you see I also have Pushbullet locked .. they will continue to run and if I select the recent apps list again .. they will be in there again .. they don't actually get closed .. As I say .. this may keep them from being closed if the Axon 7 closes old recent apps when your phone is inactive for a period of time... but this is only a theory and it may not work .. it may just be that I got lucky and the programs I use keep running for some reason now .. or maybe I just don't notice that they closed and end up opening them again without realizing it.

Ok here is something else .. may be odd but may be an issue... have you checked to make sure that you have sounds set to your notifications. There is an option for 'none' so just verify that you have a sound associated with your notifications.... another thing you can check is Settings >Sounds and Vibrations > Do not disturb and make sure this is off... or if you use this feature ... it should show an icon at the top .. make sure that icon isn't there .. I have heard of people saying that the do not disturb doesn't turn off like it is supposed to sometimes .. so if you use it .. and its suppose to turn off at say 6am .. make sure its shutting off ...
If that isn't it... let me clarify something... when you say you aren't getting notifications ... are you getting them but just not getting a sound to let you know you are getting them ... or are you not getting notifications as in ... you have to manually go into an app like your email and check manually for new mail because it isn't giving you any notifications that you have mail. ... basically are you just not getting 'notified' of notifications ... or are you not getting the actual notifications themselves from your apps... (nothing shows up in the notification section/lock screen)

I think i founded the solution you have to go Options>Power Manager>Power management for apps> and disable every slider for the apps that you want to use and the most important step REBOOT THE DEVICE. I did it today morning this change, and nothing happened, but now I rebooted my device, and it seems to work. I get the notifications immediately when I write a message to myself from another phone, thanks JohnOrion for taking time to help!
You can turn off in the MI Assistant the lockscreen background app close feature in the accelator menu, I think you have to turn that off too.

You can also check something else by clicking your volume button and when you see the volume section come on your screen press the little down arrow and make sure that the notification section has volume set on it and isn't muted.

ahh .. the bell thing.. yeah i got rid of that as soon as it was possible I don't think that the US version has MI Assistant .. you are the second person that mentioned it and I don't see that anywhere on my phone and I did a google play on it and it said its not compatible with my phone....
glad you were able to work it out
I'm running into this same issue. Just got my phone two days ago and loving it. However, every so often throughout the day it goes into some sort of deep sleep and none of my notifications come through. I've been missing new emails and hangout messages until I unlock the screen and manually refresh.
This is not a case of not hearing notifications, when I open the Gmail app, it doesn't even display the new messages until I manually refresh it.
Seems to be totally random on when this happens. I've tried checking different power settings and such and nothing really seems to make a difference. I don't even see an option to modify the power settings for the Gmail app, it doesn't show on the list of available apps.
Anyone have any luck? If this continues to be a problem, it could be a deal breaker and will force me to return it. What's the point of having a smartphone that doesn't get emails and messages?

I wish I could give you an answer .. right now .. I truly feel that ZTE realizes that it has made a mistake with the power and ram management .. I'm sure it has been resolved but because of the way things work .. it will probably not be a 'seen' fixed until the next major update which will include Nougat. This update should be here either this month according to Newegg .. or soon after .. it has been verified by one of the ZTE staff that Nougat is in the testing stages now but not verified that it will be out this month... so I'm hoping it wont be too much longer.

Makes sense. Besides the issue with sync, I really like the phone. I love the size and feel. Speakers are truly great. I've got until January 31st to return through Amazon. I'll hang on a short bit longer and see what happens.
Only other option would be the One Plus 3t. Not sure I want to give up the front facing speakers though...

Hopefully you will have the answer before your cut off date it looks promising that you will .. so yeah.. hang in there for a little while longer ... ZTE has been moving fast to get things working .. when you think about it and compare to other manufacturers ... their last update was only about a month or so ago and a very large update is coming very shortly .. that is pretty good in my opinion ... lol but I am coming from an ancient Galaxy S3 so this phone is incredible compared to that even with its strange quarks.
isn't the OP3t also a 1080 screen .. well i guess with this size it doesn't matter but .. lol ... I guess I like the 1440p screen
and yeah I love the speakers on this .. My nephew picked up a V20 because of its sound ... I want to compare it to this .. I bet mine sounds better than his that he paid 2 times the price for ... then again .. that would only be speaker sound .. I'm sure the DAC is actually better in that phone .. I think its like a 64bit one and ours is only 32bit .. but .. never actually followed it .. I love the sound but I'm not so into sound that I know specs of the converters and that stuff I just know the sound that comes out of my phone sounds great and the v20 doesn't have front facing speakers lol ... sorry .. I am a fanboy I guess .. fell in love with this phone .. want to see some of the issues resolved but for me .. I'm lucky .. most of the major ones people complain about don't seem to effect me.
Like not getting notifications .. my email twitch youtube and twitter all come through ... and lol geeky me .. they all get pushed fine to my Pebble watch and my desktop computer without delay .. as far as I have noticed by following the forums .. I get a lot of emails and there is also a counter on the forum that shows notifications and again .. never noticed a significant delay between the two of them and the phone will be sitting inactive for long periods of time .
I am lucky because I don't really communicate like a lot of people do on their phones .. I use it mainly for calls and to play around .. and it works better to notify me of mail than Windows .. so I don't use a lot of online services like spotify .. whatsapp .. and those type of things .. maybe this is why I;m not seeing issues ...
Just had it happen again. I didn't check my phone while watching a movie and decided to check my Huawei watch at the end of the movie. Was checking an old Google now card and all of a sudden my phone lit up with notifications of new Gmails and Pop emails pouring in. They were an hour old.
I'm not really sure what to do. I work for a small company and need my emails. I'm really torn as I really like everything else about this phone, but this might be the killer.
Any suggestions for a similar phone in this price range besides the One Plus 3t?

You might have to disable doze.
sorry to say .. I stopped looking when I decided on the Axon ... I do use BlueMail and get all my mail once I got rid of the power management and locked it in my recent apps list. You could give that program a try and see if it can get past the issue that seems to be ignoring your settings. ... I would suggest installing and setting up BlueMail and adjusting the power settings and locking it in the recent apps list .. then reboot the phone .. just to make sure all the settings take .. double check .. I have seen weird things with the power management settings then see if you still have issues getting mail ... if so .. again ..hopefully the update coming soon will solve the issue if you can wait a little bit .. I know since its business related .. its not something that can wait .... but maybe bluemail is more aggressive in its waking than gmail and maybe it will be able to get your notifications out

Good point, I meant to ask about that earlier. You had noted you don't have the problems with made me think you were using a third party app for email.
I'll check it out and see how it works out. I'm willing to give it a shot.
As for disabling Doze, not sure how to do that with the MiFavor skin on there. Doesn't seem to be a simple option for that.

yeah maybe bluemail will help .. its very nice ... gmail would only let me link 2 accounts and wouldn't let me link my personal imap server so I still always had to deal with 2 boxes .. but with BlueMail ... I can have all my mail in one box with easy access
oh and I'm not familiar with disabling doze either .. maybe awsomjgp can enlighten us both
Was the problem solved with Android 7?
I have Android 6 on the Axon 7 and have the same problem as mentioned.
If the problem was solved by installing Andorid 7, can you tell me a good source where it is explained how to install it on the chinese version of Axon 7. Had much trouble till now. Lucky I payed just 80%€ for it...
Factory Reset
I solved the problem by doing an unintentional factory reset. After that I had a lot of truebles with Google Play Service but now it seems to be ok. Every time the phone kills some apps, it asks me if I want protect them. But can't find this action under the settings.
Hey guys!
I just moved from a rooted LG G4 running Lollipop to the S8 Exynos. It really seems to be a great phone but I'm having issues with WhatsApp.
Sometimes I feel like the messages aren't really coming up in time, I can open the app and see no new message, close the app, open it again and it will reconnect and show me new messages.
It is even more noticeable while using the WhatsApp desktop program on Windows 10. I see a lot of yellow messages saying I'm not connected to the phone OR when I send a messages I see the "clock" instead of the single-double check right away.
My WiFi setting is set to "Always".
I'm not using any battery save option from the phone.
I installed Greenify (not rooted) but WhatsApp is not in the list to hibernate
Any ideas of what is going on? I didn't have this problem on the G4.
have you added whatsapp into the 'unmonitored apps' section in battery settings?
Can you check BBS and see if WA is using crazy amount of sensor usage? Mine is. I had to turn off battery optimization for WA to work.

Sorry, what is BBS?
I've been playing and trying to figure out what is going on. I found out that my phone is running on "optimized" and not in High Performance, Game or Entertainment. Do you guys think this has something to do with it? It shouldn't be this way right? I also have WhatsApp set to ignore any battery save option, according to the app options.
Also, yesterday I turned off my router. I received a message just before turning it off and I saw the notification on the Windows program like I usually do but it took a couple of minutes for the phone to let me know I received a notification, even though the phone had no connection to the internet. lol what?

Thanks! I downloaded the app but I need to do the ADB thing and I left the USB cable at home lol (now I need to buy multiple ones and aren't cheap)
I also noticed that I do receive the visual notifications (like in the notification bar) but the sound and LED notification comes way later.
Anyone solve the sensor issues
I was finally able to solve this problem and decided to put how I did it in case anyone can benefit from it.
I did check that Whatsapp was listed as "Unmonitored apps" in the battery section of device manager, but still had the problem. After further internet research I noticed that people where pointing to the Android's Optimize battery section, which seems that is doing a very similar functionality but is accessed from a completely different place, so make sure Whatsapp is not being "optimized" from here either.
To find this section go to Settings-> Apps -> Click the 3 Dots menu in the top right -> Special access -> Optimize battery usage -> Select "All apps" from the dropdown menu. In here, make sure Whatsapp and any other app that you cannot risk to go to sleep unintended shows as disabled (not being optimized).
Hope this helps someone with this disconnections.
Hey everyone, I have 2 problems since the update and I don't know what to do....
My first problem since updating is that my alarm sound won't play the tone, like the alarm works but no sound is played no matter the tone I set to and that goes both with Google clock and OnePlus clock.... If the screen is on the alarm does go off like normal, it only happens when the screen is off for more than 10 minutes
My second problem is that whenever I do wake up, no matter the app I open, the app just gets stuck and only restart fixes this problem, any ideas?
Well probably I'll be selling this sucky phone or I'll probably go back to 11.0.2.2........... No matter what I tried (resetting app permissions, downloading other alarm apps, setting different tones) it won't work and I was this close to missing a day's work....
Did you try to wipe system cache?

That sounds like power saving.
Have you been optimising apps?? If so then that's your issue, simply advise your power settings to not optimise your apps, namely the ones affected.
Are you rooted? Have you adjusted CPU speeds and or governor? Are you in power saver mode?? Could be a custom kernel If you have one installed and or the governor / software used to manage said kernel.
If it's a complete no to all of this then I'd recommend a system wipe in recovery and then set up your phone again, weird issues can happen between updates, ideally a wipe is a good idea for a fresh start.
Your storage will remain unaffected although you'll have to set up your phone and apps again.
Yep that's what I thought at first, I did remove the power saving/battery optimization but still no avail. Last night I completely wiped the phone, flashed 11.0.2.2 and now everything is working normal. The thing about 11.0.3.3 is that in the notes they did say they "fixed" the alarm for some users and apparently mine broke...

Strange, I think next time you jump to 3.3 just give your system a wipe in recovery. It'll make sure everything is as it should be.
I've had something similar with WhatsApp. When I leave work sometimes I pop on my location so my other half can see me on the move, but as soon as I locked the screen it stopped reporting, I had to change the battery optimization to "do not optimise" that sorted it for me
Perhaps with the alarm there are some other services that require the same treatment.
I have no problems after updated to the newest version (IN2023). There is one problem but it is not related to the particular version - the mobile very easily overheat and I am thinking to get rid of it.

The WhatsApp thing is for a different reason. Android changes the permissions to ask explicitly if you want location access on all the time.
Had the same issue with telegram but the Devs have not updated the apps to ask for background location and it just asks for "location while using" but maps has the "allow always" option.
Until that is solved I would using location sharing in maps, it's annoying that they didn't have a fallback option by default when developers don't update for this.

Yea it's a massive pain, I just don't optimise it, which is crap because I'd prefer to.
