Stock 8.0 or EMUI8? - Huawei P10 Lite Questions & Answers

So now I have Huawei P10 lite with Android 8.0 and EMUI 8 version. However, I am not happy with the performance. There's something wrong with the notifications and most importantly, battery life is very mediocre (~24hrs for normal usage - no gaming). Yesterday, for example my phone lost 20% of battery during night, even it's very optimized right now.
Do you think it will be better on stock Oreo? Is it worth giving up EMUI8? What is your experience?

Is it even possible to "downgrade" from EMUI 8 to stock Oreo? Won't I brick my phone this way?
How does it relate to Huawei not sharing unlock numbers any more?

First of all - Huawei's stock Oreo is called EMUI 8.0.0!
Huawei has no stock Android 8.0 like other brands, Huawei uses their own stock OS called EMUI!
For Huawei: Stock Oreo = EMUI 8.0.0
If you want stock Android 8 like other phones try some Custom Roms, but a lot of them a based on EMUI.
I have EMUI 8.0.0.388 (C432) and runs good.
Battery life is good. About 3-4 days in normal usage (no gaming, no facebook messenger, facebook app - notifications are off, skype is on all the time). And with 20% I can use phone almost a day. Something is wrong with your phone!
DO NOT use Messanger, this app is battery drainer! Also turn off all Facebook notifications and only when you open FB you can see all notifications, use Messanger in browser!
See the screenshot from my phone:
Usage time 3 days and 12 hours
The battery is 11% and I can use it for about 4 hours

Why I went back to Marshmallow (Answer: Battery Life)

So I had Nougat ever since it came out and used it a lot, but went back to Marshmallow a couple of days ago because of:
...Battery life. No matter what apps, settings, versions (B360, B380, B381), recommendations etc. - Battery life is simply better and more reliable on Marshmallow. Yes, I know, I did factory resets, downgrade, upgrade via OTA, deactivated this and that, pretty much everything you read on the threads here and elsewhere, it still couldn't catch up to Marshmallow. Don't get me wrong, battery life on Nougat is not terrible - I even convinced myself over the months that it is pretty much the same or even better, but that's simply just wishful thinking. As soon as I downgraded I could notice a significant improvement.
What do I mean by improvement? For once it is more reliable meaning I know what I get. On Nougat I had days where I got 3 hours SOT, then 4 or 5 on others. I had 2 percent stanby drain per hour, then 5, then 1 - it was just more random. On Marshmallow I always get pretty much the same. Stanby drain of 1 percent or less per hour and SOT of 6 or more hours (I'm at 3:40 SOT at the moment with 18 hours and 45 minutes since the last charge and exactly 50 percent battery left). So not only is it more reliable, it also gives me more SOT and lower standby drain.
Regarding the standby drain: When installing apps like ForceDoze on Marshmallow, it lets the device enter Deep Doze the minute I turn off the phone (meaning I often have deep doze rates of above 98%) which leads to little to almost no standby drain without losing any benefits (notifications still come through when added to the whitelist). Deep sleeps rates are also above 90 percent. With Nougat deeps sleep rates are only around 80 percent (given the same apps, settings etc.) and doze rates are much worse. Yes, I know all about light and deep doze, but light doze doesn't start until 5 minutes after the device is turned off (even with apps like ForceDoze) and those 5 minutes add up, especially if you are checking your device often. Also, it doesn't enter deep doze which arguably consumes less power until much later (often hours) and there is also no way I could change that with ForceDoze or Greenify. What's more, the ForceDoze setting of "ignore device movement" actually works on Marshmallow but didn't reliably work on Nougat meaning the deivce enters and stays in deep doze the minute you turn off your phone even if you are moving or driving etc. This made the difference between Marshmallow and Nougat even greater for me when driving or walking around town.
One additional thing I noticed. is that Android System and Kernel (Android OS) usage was higher on Nougat than on Marshmallow, which also worsened battery life on Nougat for me. Again, this could be reliably replicated with the same apps, settings etc.
Granted, everything else is pretty much better on Nougat (speed, UI, notification bar, lock-screen, security updates, additional features etc.), but if you value battery life above everyhing else (which I do), I still think Marshmallow is the best on the Honor 8 and, frankly, I don't see the point of updating to a newer version of Android if it doesn't come with at least the same battery life, as it is one of the most central features of a phone. I don't know and don't really care whether it's Nougat itself or Honor, I just hope that eventually (maybe with B38X or B39X), battery life will fully match that of Marshmallow. What do you guys think? What's your experience?
I never used MM longer than a day or two before upgrading to N, so I can't comment on which is better, but I can confirm that (with N) I've seen random days where the battery drain is unreal during standby, and other days when it hardly drains at all during standby. But ever since I performed a factory reset after upgrading to N, the drain has been very predictable. Standby drain is minimal and SOT is 6+ hrs. Hard for me to complain when I couldn't get that much SOT from the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact on KK, and that was a battery champ! I finally feel like I'm getting the newest features and great battery life at the same time.
You need a choice for people who never used MM in your pole to make it more accurate.
My wife just got her Honor 8 today. It's on Marshmallow. Mine is on the latest Nogat. Each update killed my battery life not significantly but noticably. I can relate to you wanting to downgrade.
While I never had an Honor 8 with Marshmallow, I was about to update her phone to the latest until I saw this thread and am glad I didn't. If Oreo fixes battery life issues, I'll happily update both our phones to it.
For her, this is her first Android and is coming from Apple. Last thing I wanna do is give her an excuse (battery life is a great one) to go back to Apple.
And the funny thing is....she doesn't care about the app tray like most of us Android users lol
Let's see how this pans out!

An older battery compared to a new one. One lasts longer, that's so crazy to think batteries might depreciate over time. ?
I bet you think you can kill your battery by leaving it plugged in too.

I like this guy.
Good to see there's still a few "passionate battery life" folks left on XDA.
I was almost starting to forget how good it felt to run into another one of you.
Keep hope alive my brother!

Marshmallow vs. Nougat Battery Life

Hi. I am still on Marshmallow and am constantly being asked to update to Nougat. I am reading the battery performance / on screen time i snot as good in Nougat as it was on Marshmallow. Can you share your experience? One of the reasons I needed this phone was for battery life and I don't want to lose that.
I think mine might be less on Nougat than MM. But, I'm using different apps lately that seem to keep the phone awake more frequently. I'm easily still getting 4-6 hours of screen time from 4:30am to 10:30pm and going to bed with 25-50% battery. Again, it depends on how I used the phone during the day.
Yes, it seems a little worse than MM, but I know I have apps since switching to Nougat that tend to wake the phone more frequently.
I'm definitely not complaining about the battery life on this phone. I often go 40 hours without charging.
So you mean even if there is a difference it is minimal?
Also, do you have the US version?
Yes, US. The longest I went was 3 full days without a charge. Something like Monday 4:30am to Wednesday 10:00pm. Just shy of 9 hours screen time I think.
The difference between MM and Nougat was very little. Honestly, the UI is much better in Nougat than MM. (granted, it still needs work) Positive Nougat UI changes outweigh the battery life change.
Look at it this way... How much use time do you need a day? You should be able to still get 5-8 hours easily depending on usage.
I feel its the same, I've not fully measured it but I'm still getting from 3 to 4 days of battery after Nougat. I mainly use the phone for receiving calls, whatsapp, instagram and twitter, actually Twitter is the app that I use the most.
Right now I have 75% left and still tells me it has 3days of battery left, so that still a great battery duration
Well. I'm on board now too. And you all are right: no noticeable differences at the moment, although I did wipe cache and all data via recovery after update. Liking this phone.

huawei p10 lite firmware and eccessive battery drain

Hello I don't know where to ask this, have you notice that the battery 's percentage of this model quickly goes down? I noticed my mobile have excessive consume of battery. I disabled all the background apps anything. the problem I read, depends from firmware. My latest version is B193 {WAS-LX1A}... there's any possibility that the next firmware update they will solve this battery excessive consume? the battery is really a weak point... My old Samsung j5 was much more better.. this huawei p10 lite drain battery in few minutes from 90% to 85%.. in a couple of hours is already at 50% or even less...

Oreo vs. Nougat

Hi, I have recently bought this phone and I wonder which version is the best. I've immediately updated to Oreo and I really like the UI and features, but I've seen here on forums, that battery life is much better in Nougat.
Is it worth to downgrade to Nougat from Oreo? Thanks
no.
This shouldn't really be a debate
Nougat was buggy and so was oreo in the early builds but it's much better now
Stay on oreo. I have no battery issues and can reach at least 7hrs+ SoT with medium usage
Okay, thank you all.
Yesterday. I've been using my A1 like medium usage and the battery remains 15% after 13 hrs.
So. I vote for Nougat any Time!! The problem of Carrier services original RCS in Oreo Is too much for me.
Hi, I have battery issues too, I just dont know where is the problem, I have just updated to April update and no difference...

Miui EU 12.0.3.0 - SOT

Hi,
I have a Mi 9T with the official EU rom 12.0.3.0.
I am not a hard user, only using emails, whatsapp, internet ... (no games or movies) but I only have 5-6 hours SOT.
I have as well restricted many apps in the background.
The battery is not draining when I am not using my phone, or a very little drain 2% but as soon as i use my phone, the battery goes down very quick.
Main consumer is Android system with 30%.
I did a factory reset on the 12.0.2.0 version, still bad SOT and last week I had the 12.0.3.0 update, SOT unchanged (5-6 hours).
I have seen many subjects on the forum but i feel like not everybody found a solution for having a nice SOT (8-10 hours). I usually keep my phone 2 days without charging it, with same apps. But today i mostly need to charge it everyday.
Are you guys in the same boat?
If not what is your SOT, and what ROM or setting do you use?
I would prefer to stay on a official ROM if possible.
I becoming desperate with this poor SOT, thinking to go back on miu10... which is a shame because i bought this phone to enjoy last os.
Cheers,
You can try the global version,( 12.0.5) or a custom rom like xiaomi.eu that uses a debloat version of chinese rom, stable and weekly.

What is your SOT with the global rom?
I don't use global, my rom is last Xiaomi.eu stable ( 12.0.4). And i don't know the SOT. But it's fine for me.

SOT means Screen On Time, you can see it in "Battery & performance -> Battery usage stats.
Right now, my SOT is 2h40min and I have 46% battery left. So I would probably get around 5hours SOT once my battery is gone.
I think it is very little but I would like to know if people have similar SOT to mine?
First of all screw miui ,if y are a practical orientated person who only cares about

Please flash a rom which is caf based ASOP doesn't make sense to Snapdragon driven phone
*I myself use pa quartz 4 edition ( sadly no quartz 5 )
*I got upto 14 hours of sot once that was just with browsing @25-30% brightness with mobile data on
*I've restricted all unwanted **** including google assistant , I'm running gappa pico edition , I use Google Chrome for satisfying my needs of Gmaps , Gmail etc. ( Ofcourse I've disabled "Google" app too, along with vibration and all kinds of hepatic feedback including touch sounds on dialer )
And I get An average of 10 hours SOT watch the screen shot.
I'm talking every 10%=1hour or 1hour+.
TRADEOFF : FOD - in this rom fod never works fine and is broken. if you need fod or if you prefer it over the double tap to wake + pattern mode which I myself use now you should rather get yourself PIXEL EXPERIENCE or lineage os 17.1 . (FOD WORKS Steamlessy on PE rom , 2ndly on lineage os but battery life never gets better than this it's always under 10 hours but all these 3 are way ahead of all miui roms which no MI bloatware and fake optimization only part about miui is that FOD and our device has a lot of hidden bugs which you don't find in our day to day usage which I got exposed to myself after messing up my persist image a while back ).
The last versioni of miui 12 and 11 have bad sot. On 12.0.2 i had also a battery drain with screen of now on the 12.0.3 in 7 hours i have 3% of battery discarghe with screen off but with screen on the drain Is vert higt 20% of hour.

Thank you, we have the same problem.
So what have you done? Are you using another ROM now?
I'm on MIUI Global 12.0.3.0 and I constantly get max of 4.5 hours SOT.
1 hour calls
3 hours social media and messaging
Brightness around 90% fixed
mixed LTE & WIFI usage

Hi, yes I see yours is even worse than mine.
Have you tried a factory reset with the new 12.0.3.0?
I guess you should try to use automatic brightness because 90% is a lot and may consume lots of energy.
The last 2 days, I have tried the saver mode and the battery actually last much longer.
I am around 8.5-9 hours SOT now. I have activated the auto synchronisation to get updates in live.
I will continue on this set up this week, but I am pretty happy with this SOT, it gave me almost 2 days without charging now.
