Boot to recovery (No Command) in many situations - Moto G4 Plus Questions & Answers

Good day to everyone.
Today I needed to factory reset my phone. When I did so, the phone booted to TWRP, and didn't let me finish booting. I learned that was because of Android Nougats boot protection, so I decided to update to Oreo while I was at it, following this guide (also relocked the bootloader as well}:
Having finished updating, I restarted my phone, and the No Command screen was there. No problem, I thought. Having arrived at the Welcome Screen, I omitted giving any information, not even a WiFi connection (my phone screen is broken).
Afterwards, I decided to turn off the phone.
And here's the problem. When I either turn on the phone again, or even charging it, it boots straight into the fallen Android screen (No Command). No matter what I do, it always starts from there. To get the phone again into the Welcome Screen, I must go to the bootloader and press the power button on Start.
Any Ideas?
Comments will be severely appreciated.
Update: Also can't relock Bootloader

Stuck in BootLoop and Factory Wiping doesn't actually wipe anything

Nexus 7 (2012)
4.4.4 Stock
KTU84P
HW Version - ER3
Bootloader Version - 4.23
Locked Bootloader
Not Rooted
I have a Nexus 7 sitting in front of me that was dropped off by my aunt in hopes that I could repair it for her. It doesn't look too promising, but I thought I'd consult the mighty fine people here on XDA before I give her the bad news. Here's what she says happened. Yesterday, while preforming day to day activities on it (browsing internet, Skyping, Facebook, etc), the device completely froze. After holding down the Power Button and forcing it to shutdown, she booted it back up. Everything seemed to functioned properly for about 30s - 1min when, at that time, the device turned off and rebooted on its own. After booting back up, it started to repeat this cycle. Basically getting stuck in a bootloop. I personally have never witnessed a bootloop like this before, where the device successfully boots up completely into the OS before turning off and repeating. I'm more used to dealing with ones where it might go as far as the manufacturer logo and then repeats. So anway, as I stated, I only have a 30s - 1min window where I can make changes in order to troubleshoot. The first thing I figured I should do was to go into "About Device", turn Developer Mode on and get USB Debugging enabled. I was able to do this and used "adb devices" to confirm its connection to my computer before it looped again. After its next bootloop I headed back into settings because I wanted to take note of the Android version she was running. As I was navigating there, I noticed that the Developer Options were no longer active. Basically as if I hadn't enabled them yet. This made me start thinking that changes being made on the device weren't sticking. I decided to make a few visual changes to the home screen and see if they were still there after the next bootloop. I uninstalled an app, rearranged icon placement, and changed the wallpaper. Once it shutdown and booted back up again, everything was back to the way it was before the changes had been made. The app I had uninstalled was still there, the wallpaper reverted back, and the icons were back in their original location. At this point I decided to see if I could reboot into Safe Mode. Unfortunately, this doesn't work. I am able to get the reboot to Safe Mode confirmation box and tap "Ok" but it remains in Normal mode when it boots back up. I eventually tried to boot into recovery and preform a Factory Reset. I was able to get into recovery and reset the Nexus. Or so I thought. Instead of seeing a Device Setup screen after it wiped, like I assumed I would, it booted up and still had all the data on it. There were no errors during the wipe and it was confirmed with "Data wipe complete." afterwards.
I am absolutely lost. I've never dealt with such an unusual issue before. Especially with it not even reacting to a complete data wipe. So, just to recap . . . I only have 30s - 1min available to interact with the OS before it reboots itself, any changes made during that time don't stick, Device is successful booting into Stock Recovery, and I can successfully get a Fastboot connection when booting to the Bootloader.
Luckily she has come to terms that this might not get fixed and has decided to go a head an order a newer 2013 model. I'd still like to try any solutions that you all might have. Just in case there is a slight glimmer of hope.
Oh, and one last thing I should mention. I tried to see if I could get the bootloader unlocked but it didn't work. This is the first Nexus I've ever had in my possesion, so I'm not really familiar with the tools available for it. I found WugFresh's Root Toolkit and attempted to Unlock with it. The process seemed to go as it should and I didn't receive any errors on the tablet or in the software. However, in the end, it didn't make any changes to the bootloader.
same problem
I have the same problem as you.
Did you find a solution?
Can anybody help us?
Thanks.
I have a similar problem, but I think mine is related to the bootloader.
I'm stuck on 3.34 and that's where it fails ever time I try Wug's Nexus Tool Kit.
Have you tried Nexus Tool Kit yet?

I have tried factory reset from recovery, no errors while wiping but when device restarts nothing has happened: I only have a 30s-1min of old system with all my data and apps or directly bootloop.
Also I have tried flash factory images with Nexus Tool Kit and directly from bootloader. No errors while flashing, apparently has flashed new image system. When device restarts nothing has happened: bootloop or my old system with data and apps for 30s before restart.
Myself and a few others are having the same problem... please keep us updated if you find anything out.

New/Stock Oneplus Two, unable to boot into recovery

Hey all, completely new to this forum and my Oneplus Two that I've had for a little over two weeks.
I recently got a OTA update for Oxygen 2.2.0 but I can't seem to install it. Everytime I download it and click the "install" option, the phone reboots (probably to go to recovery) but after a very brief splash screen and a vibration, it vibrates again and displays the standard boot splash screen, boots into the OS and offers me to download the update again.
I've done a little troubleshooting in the past two-three days and from what I understand, the phone doesn't seem to be able to boot into recovery or fastboot. I've enabled the advanced options in the "reboot" menu and when selecting "recovery" the phone reboots and does the same behavior described above. I tried powering off the phone and booting with the volume up button pressed (while pressing power) and the phone boots and displays a "Fastboot Mode" splash screen but it seems to hang there forever until I actually shut it off again and power it back on. Also, I've tried booting it into recovery from ADB, connected to my PC and I get the same behavior: brief splash screen with a vibrate and then the phone seems to reboot again normally.
I haven't tampered with the phone yet, it is brand new out of the box, not rooted and nothing other than simply installing a few games, Nova Launcher, changing the wallpaper and using it as you would normally use your phone.
Anyone has an idea how I could actually get the Recovery functioning on this phone?
Best regards and thanks in advance for any help!

That is the norm for fastboot, it doesn't go past that screen.
It may not make a difference, did you try to boot to recovery via Power+Volume Down buttons?
Greetings Khaos64,
Yes, I've tried booting with Vol-Down+Power but the phone does not start.
With volume-up+power, I get the Fastboot splash screen but the phone does not respond to any input.
I tried selecting "bootloader" from the reboot menu but I get the same thing: Reboots and after a second, the phone reboots again normaly and into OxygenOS.
Is there a way to verify if the bootloader or recovery is corrupt and maybe reflash the stock recovery onto the phone?
Thanks for your input!
You may just want to go straight to oneplus support since everything is stock and only 2 weeks they should be able to get you updated or replace it.
If you'd like to be more hands on... maybe something below can help.
So your phone isn't recognized/no commands acceptred from your computer when booted to fastboot?
Such as unlocking your bootloader and booting into twrp... "fastboot boot yourfilename.img" or maybe flashing it.
Make sure OEM unlocking is selected in Developer options.
If you can't do that then this may not work but is worth a shot.

I did try to contact Oneplus for support but I am not the one who purchased the phone. Long story short, it was a gift from my girlfriend that she bought off of someone. The phone was new in box and was a warranty replacement. I would have to contact the seller and go trough him for support unfortunately.
Thanks for the different suggestions!, I will fiddle around with it this afternoon while the kids are having their mid-day nap and I'll get back with the results
Thanks again for the help, it's greatly appreciated!
Hello,
I eventually started fiddling around with fasboot and tried unlocking the bootloader. This sent the phone into a bootloop where it would try to boot into recovery and reboot right away.
I found an article on how to restore the phone to Oxygen 2.1.1. It would wipe user data but I did it anyway and it actually did restore the phone and now I have a worling recovery.
Here is a link to the guide I used:

DirtySanta Root Attempt on Verizon LGV20 - Stuck After Step 3 Sitting on Fastboot

Hi, I don't have enough posts to ask this in the actual DirtySanta thread.
I meticulously followed the steps in the DirtySanta thread making sure I had all the correct software, all the pre-requisites, all files in my ADB folder (except SuperSU zip, which is on the SD card on the phone). Suffice it to say that I did all the steps exactly as written in the guide. I was prompted when to run the next batch files each time, etc. Entered the proper commands in the terminal utility, and so on. Everything as written.
After clicking on step3.bat, the phone immediately rebooted to a Fastboot screen. In the meantime, the batch files disappeared off my desktop.
So, for the past 15 minutes or so the phone has been sitting on Fastboot and vibrating away.
Here's what I see in the small Fastboot screen:
Fastboot Mode (in red)
stuff like Product_name, Variant, HW_Version, etc. up until it says LOCK_STATE.
Ok, after all of that basic stuff, it says:
[1090]
[1140] Fastboot mode started
[1670] fastboot: processing commands
[17600] usb_read() transaction failed; txn_status= -1
[17650] usb_read: DONE: ERROR len=64
[1700] fastboot: oops!
[17750] fastboot: processing commands
And that's where it sits, doing seemingly nothing and vibrating away.
Can anyone assist?

First off, a big thanks for helping me.
Update: OK, changing the USB port worked I re-ran Step3.bat. I have made it through getting to TWRP, and have done these steps:
Verizon(VS995) and ATT(H910):
4.1) Flash SuperSU.zip
4.2) Go back to Main-menu > Wipe > [Format Data] > Type ?Yes?
4.3) Go back to Wipe > Advanced > Check Dalvik, Data and Cache > Slide to wipe
4.4) Go back to Main-menu > Reboot > System
So, with that all complete, it's rebooted to a Verizon screen (horizontal progress dots) and a low buzzing.
I did try what you mentioned in the guide to get over the wait time by pulling the battery, reinserting with vol down key pressed and re-attaching the USB to flash boot2.img via fastboot, but it didn't get back to fastboot after the battery/voldown/usb. It went back to the same Verizon screen after the obligatory "Corrupt" screen came on.
Can I assume that I can wait this out for 20 minutes, or did I miss something in how to interrupt this waiting period for first setup? I do want to (and know I have to) flash boot2.img.
EDIT: wasn't holding vol key down long enough to get into fastboot. Doh. Just flashed boot2.img and rebooted.
Looks like I made it! It's at the "Prepare your Phone Screen". Fingers crossed.

Are you still stuck?
I ran into this EXACT same issue on my brand new Verizon v20 on step 3 (both 13a and 12a firmware gave me this issue) and I had to figure out my own solution, even tho I read that 'dirty santa root' thread a thousand times front to back.... (no disrepsect to the OP/Devs of that thread btw!)
Anyways, below, is the link to my solution on my brand new Verizon v20, in case you're still stuck. I've actually reflashed (via LGUP) back to stock a couple times, then re-root/unlock to test out 13a and 12a firmwares to benchmark various battery life/performance markers for a tech site I write for. Ultimately, I have to go through the exact same steps everytime for my Verizon v20.
I know I wasn't too specific in my post below... but if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask

I read your "fix" post to see exactly where you got stuck, as I got stuck first due to the USB port not being able to work correctly and had to switch USB ports on my pc before I could re-run step3.bat.
I see now that you're talking about the long Verizon logo screen with progress dots issue after rebooting post-running step3.bat that I ran into, as well.
OK, what worked for me was much easier in the end than what you did. After step3.bat and the reboot, it would just sit there on the Verizon logo with the progress dots, as you know. There is a notation on the first page of the DirtySanta thread that in order to get around this, unplug the USB cable and remove the battery.
This is the actual note from the DirtySanta thread for Verizon users with the long Logo screen issue:
*****VERIZON USERS******
It has come to my attention that some users have encountered abnormally long first boot time(over 20 minutes before first time setup)
To resolve this issue:
Boot into bootloader by pulling the battery and reinserting it and holding VOL- and phugging in the phone. then typing:
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot2.img
fastboot reboot
**************
Click to collapse
Once I removed the battery and usb cable, the phone was completely off, of course. Then, I just needed to get it back into "fastboot" on the phone, itself, in order to flash boot2.img via ADB on the PC. When the phone was on the never-ending Logo screen with progress dots, I found that ADB could see the phone ok via the adb devices command, but if I tried to flash anything at that point, it would just say something like "pending", as if it were waiting for the device to be free to flash. So, that wasn't going to work, obviously. I needed the phone to be in the flashboot screen, not the logo screen. I did a ctrl-c to cancel out of the adb flash command, and then set out to pull the battery/usb cable and then reconnect the battery, and while holding the Vol Down button reinserting the USB cable.
The first time I tried this, it booted up fine, but it went right back to the Logo screen. Doh! I figured perhaps I wasn't waiting long enough with the Volume Down button so I tried it again. What happened the first time when it rebooted to the Logo screen is I released the Volume Down button the moment the phone started to turn on (you feel the vibration). That's when it booted back to the Logo. This second time, I removed the battery again while it was on that never-ending Logo screen to power it off and disconnected the USB cable again. I put the battery back in, then with the Volume Down button pressed down, I reconnected the USB cable. The difference this time is that I did not release the Volume Down button this time UNTIL I saw it was in the Fastboot screen and not the Verizon Logo.
So, at this point the phone was on the Fastboot screen and I saw it was it was ready to go, so I initiated the ADB command to flash boot2.img. It went through its paces and once it got back to the ADB command prompt, I did an ADB Fastboot Reboot command. It rebooted, first with the obligatory corrupt warning, then the Verizon Logo and progress dots, but then after a short while I got the "Hello" screen in red and I knew it was actually going to finish. Whew! Relief! At that point I was eventually at the phone's setup screen for a new user, and I finished setting up the phone, reinstalling apps, etc.
One caveat in this: I don't know why, but even though I had gone through all the steps in "4" section of the instructions, when I checked Root, I wasn't rooted! Huh?
In other words, I had already gone through this part:
Verizon(VS995) and ATT(H910):

Click to collapse
After setting up the phone and reinstalling my apps, I opened up the SuperSU app, and it said there was no executable installed. In other words, it didn't recognize that I had flashed it in step 4.1. Perhaps flashing boot2.img overwrote that? Not sure, but at this point, I set about to figure out how to boot into TWRP Recovery on the phone (not fastboot) to flash it from there (again).
It took me a while to find the instructions on how to boot into TWRP, lol, and it's a little unnerving that before it boots to TWRPyou are warned that all your data is going to be overwritten before you can boot to it, but it did get me back into TWRP. Once in TWRP, I re-flashed Supersu-blahblah.zip and rebooted via the system reboot. (did not wipe any caches again, though).
After reboot, I checked root again, and this time after a bit SuperSu brought up the permissions screen for the Root app that I had to allow, and it brought back a successful Root message.
I then set about to do what I really wanted to do with root - bypass the Verizon entitlement check for hotspot usage, and got that working fine.
All in all, I have to say this was the diciest rooting I've ever had to go through. I guess that's because of Nougat and that there can't be (at least not yet) a "one-click" root. But man, was I worried when I was at the point where I first posted in this thread. I bought this phone as a "new-resale" (never used) phone from Swappa.com for $450, so if I bricked it, I was out of luck. But it seems to be ok now.

I saw that 'fix' and it never worked for me at the point in the rooting process I was in... sadly. You have to be able to even get to TWRP, do the SU install then format/wipe, then you can flash the boot2.img to speed up the booting process. In my case, I was never able to even get to TWRP. Trying to flash boot2.img before being able to get to TWRP, would soft brick my phone with the 'password' screen on bootup and I was never able to get around it, requiring me to LGUP back to stock and try again. Luckily I was able to still figure it out.
As you said, definitely the 'diceist' rooting process I've ever encountered... and I've been rooting phones since the original Motorola Droid 1/Milestone phone. Good times tho! Haha

Late response - sorry.
There must be something we each did differently, as we both have the same phones, same carrier, same software revision (13a). I was able to get to TWRP via the button method on the phone. Didn't use ADB for that. I was presented with an ominous white screen about all files will be wiped/deleted, but when accepting that (and hoping for the best, lol), it just went to TWRP. So, again...something or some step(s) must be done differently to get to that point on your end from what I did.
I'm guessing you're through with doing the flashing on this thing, so this is all moot now.
Hey guys i actually was having the same issues as you were now however after the SU install the wipe etc i reboot to TWRP no matter what i do even when i restart through bootloader or take the battery off it keeps booting to the same place instead to the verizon wizard help please

Sorry for the constant posts but i followed the steps on that thread, deleted the misc/fota files and it stopped it going to twrp and booted to the lg logo with the black screen, i waited there for about 2-3 hours to no avail rebooted into bootloader tried the fastboot img 2 and the same thing happened it was just stuck at the lg logo now when it boots to the fastboot screen however adb doesnt recognize the device anymore but fastboot does. Is it time to kdz and start over ?

L31 bricked by flashing rollback package

Hi All.
I hope someone can help me. I encountered this stupid problem:
I have a L31 device and successfully installed the Nougat (test?)update through Firmware Finder. But since this wasn't the definitive update, I decided to rollback to MM. I installed the C900B300 rollback package and then the B160 package. That went well, BUT the device now refused to activate the Google services. I couldn't enter a Google account. Not from Settings > Accounts and not from any other Google app like Chrome, Play Store, Gmail or others. The screen just kept returning to the Homescreen.
Upon checking About this device, I noticed the version now was C900B160, instead of the expected C432B160. I am very positive I used the C432B160 MM package to flash. This I did with the three button method. But then how come it still showed C900B160?
So I first tried to reflash the C432B160 with the three button method. Flashing worked well, but the problem wasn't solved. Still no Google activation and still the same C900B160 number.
So then I decided to reflash the rollback package...
That turned out to be a mistake... After flashing that (and it did show 100% successfull after flashing) the device is bricked. The Huawei logo shows and then nothing happens. The logo stays in the screen. I can't even turn the device off. Short pressing the ON-OFF button does nothing and long pressing just restarts the logo and nothing more.
I tried to reflash the MM update C432B160 with the three button technique, but that doesn't work anymore!! Entering erecovery with the volume up and ON-OFF also doesn't work anymore!! The only thing that works is Fastboot when connected to a pc. That screen shows phone (and bootloader) is locked, by the way. So I can't flash boot.img and recovery.img .
Has anybody encountered such problems and knows what to do now?? Thanks guys!

With fastboot method, unlock bootloader again. Flash recovery. Boot into recovery. Wipe system and boot. Flash stock boot IMG and recovery IMG. Power off. Use dload. Now you are in bootloop. When booting press vol up 3 seconds, on e-recovery press shutdown. Press and hold power and vol up. Go to stock recovery, do factory reset.

Thanks for your help.
Trouble is that I can't unlock te bootloader, because I do not know my Product ID and I can't look it up, since I don't have a dialer... The HuaweiProductIDGenerator doesn't help. I tried several codes with it, but none worked.

No, I can only get into fastboot when connected to a pc.
OK. gtdaniel was so kind to provide me with an unlock code. THANKS!
But, I don't seem te be able to use it...
I can put the phone in bootloader when connected to a pc. When I type "fastboot devices" I do get the correct serial number. But when I type "fastboot oem unlock 343...338" I get a FAILED (remote: command not allowed).
It seems this is because I never could allow OEM unlocking from the Android settings menu. But since my phone is bricked, I can not enter into that menu!
Does anybody know how to solve this??

at command line when u write adb devices u got your phone ?
Maybe is dump question but did you install adb android driver ?
I'm pretty sure that someone wrote in thread that you don't need to have this oem permission in android if you are in fastboot

Yes, that's what I read too. Since I can't change that permission anymore while I can't start Android, I can't unlock. Dammit.
Is DC Unlocker my only option then? It seems their software can do it.
I'm afraid I've got some pretty bad news. Last week the same thing happened to me after I was THAT stupid to actually try and flash the rollback package for the second time. My phone got bricked just like yours, and NOTHING worked to fix it. I tried completely everything I could find on the net and XDA, and in the very end I was forced to bring it in for warranty repairs. Even they COULD NOT fix it and the phone ended up with the entire logicboard changed with a completely new one. I was lucky that it all was done under warranty. Will never do anything as stupid as that!
Really hope you find a fix somehow, but if not, the repair service is your only solution, because otherwise the phone is as good as dead.

my phone is also reedy to send to service. I have a lot of phone with android but no rom make so many damage to my phone, like this fc** rollback. finger cross, because huawei service in my country without warranty, takes for new motherboard 175 $ . I bought phone for 233 $ with 3 gb ram..... This will be harsh and pay(in)ful lesson for me.

Uhh, I am sorry to hear that. But yes, I had the same harsh lesson. They will be forced to changed the motherboard too, cause even they won't be able to re-flash the whole system. Though, what I did to have the warranty not declined, is I brought the phone to the service and said that - "The phone received and OTA update through the updater, I didn't look much into it and just went with it, pressed on update and everything seemed well. It worked until the moment where it installed and restarted, and now the phone is stuck on Huawei logo and you can't possibly do anything with it, not even turn it off." - and that's it. They will have to repair it under warranty because there is no proof left that you had rooted it or done any other installations not authorized by Huawei.
Best of luck!

I know that i read somewhere how to manage to this oem lock. I was 50 % right.
https://forum.dc-unlocker.com/forum...61751-huawei-mate-9-mha-l29-erase-frp-problem
Some user got the same problem that you have and flash boot.
But truly if u don't have "your device has been unlock" only bootloop on huawei logo, is more simple to send it back to warranty and play dump.
I have now "your device is unlock" and i pray for miracle.

I am exactly in the same situation with the difference that I don't have Fasboot! How do you get to Fastboot? Mine hangs on the screen that says the phone is unlocked and the device is booting... Vol+/Vol- and Power doesn't boot into Fastboot and my minimal ADB doesn't recognize the phone in the stages that it hangs...
---------- Post added 16th April 2017 at 12:04 AM ---------- Previous post was 15th April 2017 at 11:52 PM ----------
I have the same situation. I tried everything, Three button method, letting the battery run out completely, Vol+ and Power, Vol- and Power, connected to PC, not connected to PC. Every time I disconnect the charger, and reconnect it starts from 0. I read some other people here have the same problem. Send it to warranty and explain your rollback process unlocked the bootloader somehow (I mean the phone does do a lot of sh*ty sh*t, so this shouldn't seem very odd as well!!!) and hope that you get a repair/replacement and after that sell it on ebay hoping some stupid people like us in the first place will buy it and spend your money on a phone more reliable!
I managed to access the fastboot using the 3 button method in cold boot. Hold the Power key until the screen goes off and then release and hold down the Vol- key and immideately connect the usb cable to PC right before it vibrates or exactly when it vibrates (it's a matter of timing), and bingo you are in fastboot and you can flash system.img, recovery.img, cust.img, cache.img and boot.img from there, but this is not how I revived my phone. I used the 3 button method again when the phone was charged for like half an hour or so and the did the same cold boot trick and I could boot into the force upgrade environment (strangely this still didn't work whitout connecting the usb cable to PC), but it somehow didn't want to read the UPDATE.APP that I had in dload folder on my SD card and wanted to have it from my PC (I just felt it nad there was no indication of it ) so then I installed the DC Phoenix tool and payed 15 euros to be able to inject the complete UPDATE.APP to my bricked phone and the installation went well to 99% and failed, but I rebooted the phone and I could boot normally. Just to make sure I did a factory reset afterwards. Hope this helps.
Cannot get into Bootloader
Hey there!
Essentially as stupid as I am i flashed the Rollback Image at Android 6.0 too, because i wanted to get rid of C900. So now my phone is stuck in the Startup screen too. As mentioned here, I wanted to unlock bootloader again; The Button combination does not work, and if I want to start in bootloader via ADB, it just says "waiting for device"
i am really desperate and i don't know what i should do now
Thanks for the help
EDIT: Somehow managed to got it into Bootloader. At the moment i am unlocking it. Where do i get TWRP and the needed things? Please help, i'm just some noob who doesn't know how it's done
EDIT2: Solved, got Stock Recovery Re-installed, Flashed with the Force Update Method the Main Package of the Rollback (so not the temp rollback data), and worked. But Still C900 and no Google sign-in possible. Someone know how to solve?

OP6T bricked hard

My 6T is currently a paperweight (bricked, screen won't turn on, no fastboot, no nothing) and here's the succession of events that led to it:
I live in the US and bought the unlocked 6T.
1) A few weeks ago I rooted it with same steps described in this post --> https://www.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6t-unlock-bootloader-root/. Everything seemed to go well, I had Magisk and my phone worked just fine.
2) About a week later I got a notification that my phone had a software update ready. I idiotically obliged and installed it. After the install, I still got the bootloader unlocked screen at start up so I thought my phone might still be rooted. However, I couldn't download any mods on Magisk and my root checker said I was no longer rooted. So basically, my phone appeared rooted (apps like Google Pay wouldn't work, I got the warning about the Bootloader at start-up, etc.) but I no longer had the benefit of being able to install mods through Magisk.
3) A few weeks later (yesterday) I decided I would explore options for un-rooting, mainly so I could use Google Pay again. Remember, my phone wasn't actually rooted anymore, since the update. So I thought locking the bootloader should fix my problems. I did that with fastboot oem lock and then my phone was stuck in a fastboot loop. I tried every option in fastboot and would just end up right back there. I started looking for fixes and came across the MSMDownload Tool --> http://https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6/how-to/tool-msmdownloadtool-v4-0-international-t3798892. I downloaded the driver, it recognized my device, I downloaded the tool, then ran it. At 16 seconds, the download stopped and I got an error saying "Sahara communication failed." After looking up a fix that involved holding down the volume+ button, I decided I'd try again. This is where I f*cked up. I unplugged my phone without stopping the download, and that leads us to this very moment. My phone does not turn on at all. I have no access to fastboot or anything. My computer does recognize it when I plug it back in (I'm on Windows).
If you read this it's probably obvious that I only know enough to be dangerous and bricking my phone was inevitable. Feel free to call me an idiot, I only ask that you provide some useful information, preferably on the subject of getting my phone working again. Thank you all in advance. I hope this post isn't redundant. I didn't find anything on here that was a fix for my situation. I'm also open to contacting OnePlus if anyone thinks I should do that first. I genuinely thank anyone that takes the time to read/help! xd
Use the msm tool...doesn't use fastboot
Edit...nevermind
You need to get your phone to show up as "US8_BULK" like in the MSM thread you linked. You can do this even if your phone wont boot properly. I have done it multiple times before. When in the Qualcom flashing mode the screen will not light up at all.
Hold all the buttons until it resets. This could take up to 30 seconds of holding the buttons. The just follow the steps in the MSM thread starting with this one:
Power off the phone, then hold for 5 seconds vol up and plug the usb to computer. Now you have to see US8_BULK as new device connected and you can also see in device manager; if you can't notice it, repeat the process until you see it (power on, power off, hold...) there is a full youtube guide for op5 and it's the same process - (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PpLvmID1wdI)
Edit: It can take some practice to get the timing down, especially if your screen is not coming on at all. Just keep trying as you will be able to get into that Qualcom flashing mode unless there is physical hardware damage to your phone.

Awesome, that worked! I kept seeing I needed to hold volume+ and power but holding both and power is what actually worked for me. Thanks a lot my friend
