Sometime in the past 2 months, the google assistant voice command to play music has stopped working. I get greeted on the TV screen with a message that says," Playing The Artist on Google Play Music. Sorry, something went wrong. When you're ready, give it another try." This occurs if I try using google assistant from my phone or the remote. And it occurs with both google play music and i HeartRadio.
All other voice commands I have tried will either open up the correct apps or provide the right information on the screen for the question asked and such. I am able to cast music from either iHeartradio and Google Play Music still from my phone to the TV through the Shield. I feel as if it is a music setting somewhere, but cant find the issue. I am on the latest update, which I believe is 7.7.3 on Android Oreo. The issue seemed to pop up within the past 2 months. I have scraped the internet and XDA to no avail. Any insight is appreciated.
I've also attempted to clear the cache and uninstalled both iheartradio and uninstall updates for Google Play Music and then reinstall both with no luck for the issue.

Hello,
I am experiencing problem when using "listen to" voice command on Google Now.
More specifically, Google Now recognizes it as an action, but I don't have the bar for auto launching Google Music Play after some time (I have the bar for other commands though). I have to click on the action for it to launch, which is not very handy, especially in car.
Has this happened to anyone. Is there any known fix?
Thanks in advance for the answer!
That is how Google built it. There's no workaround for that unless someone has modded Google Now.
Or maybe a third party app like this one can be of help.
So this is normal behavior?
This is weird, because on that video, the guy seem able to auto launch music "real estate" (0:48)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHkhp6BwnGo
Maybe they changed it in an update or something. I have Apollo music player and when I ask Now to play a song, the name appears with an Apollo icon next to it. I have to manually hit the play button to launch the app.
Thank you for your feedback.
Mine proposed Youtube as well. I froze it so google music is the only choice. However, listen to command still doesn't autoplay.
I guess there is still room for improvement in google now...
Short and sweet, but someone had mentioned a mix of 4.4.2 OTA and GPM's update fixed being able to play music via Touchless Control. I'm on 4.4 (not 4.4.2) VZW and can confirm that Touchless Control now will play any song in your phone. Give it a shot and let us here at XDA know if the same is present for you all cheers!
You can only play the songs if you bought them through Google play right? I never bought any songs from Google play, I just uploaded my collection into google music. Whenever I use touchless control to play music, Google search just takes me to google play, it never opens the music app
Nope, I have Ariana Grande's CD ripped myself and it's stored on my "sdcard" not the cloud.
EDIT: I do have music through GPM's store, and those worked fine pre-update, but now music that I've copied to the internal memory works, so it seems to have been fixed for all media that GPM sees.

Don't know if you were referring to my post in the 4.4.2 thread, but I am experiencing the same with touchless controls playing music. Most of my music is ripped and stored on the phone as well, and it pretty much plays anything I say using the phrase, example "play The Beatles". Since you don't have 4.4.2 like I do I assume the update to GPM fixed it. Thanks for posting.
I think it only works in the US.

When I say "Okay Google Now, play The Script" (or any music) it verifies it's going to play it, goes into the GPM and then it just pops up a keyboard and the song file, as if I had searched for it via GPM and not Google Now and doesn't start playing it automatically. I have Google Now set to start playing GPM as my player of choice, but it just acts like I was looking for it and doesn't actually play it.
Any thoughts? Thanks!

Mine does the same thing with the keyboard, (don't understand what the deal is with the keyboard) but it plays a song. Are you sure your not set to pause? Have you tried setting GPM as your default player again?
You know, it really depends on what mood my phone is in, I told it to play "What's My Name" by Rihanna and it played it, but if I tell it some songs, it will search it and say "Couldn't start instant mix" and won't play, despite it showing in the search results. I think it's still hit or miss, but saying an artist (providing Google can pick apart the artist's name) it will play them. Work in progress for Touchless Control (Actually this is a Google Now thing) but once they find more bugs, GPM will get updated and actually use the API's correctly. As far as I know, this is US only until they open it to more regions.

I just got a new Android TV/Nexus Player device. And was able to find other media apps either installed as soon as I set things up or via going to the Google Play Store app in the Android TV device. But I have not been able to find Netflix. And when I go to Google Play using a PC web browser, the page for the Netflix app says that Netflix is not compatible with my "No carrier Asus Nexus Player".
Anyone know why? I've searched here and been unable to find an answer so far. I know there's the ability to side load apps. But being new to Nexus Player, I'd just like to get Netflix quickly installed via Play Store if possible.
Any help is appreciated.
Worked with Netflix support. Did a hard reset and entered my Google credentials manually. And Netflix is there now.
Just setup my Nexus Player... same issue. Netflix is MIA on the device and Google Play Store says Nexus Player isn't compatible.
Can you provide a bit more detail on the fix Netflix gave you? Hard reset what? The NP? Manually entered Google credentials? Where? TIA.

Reset to factory settings
After you reset to Factory settings, the first thing on screen will be a prompt for Language/Region. Be sure you pick the correct one for where you are, since Netflix won't work with some selections. I don't know which don't work. Mine is "English US". After that, you'll be asked to setup your Google account. Which you can do via web browser or entering your Google ID/password manually on the Nexus Player. I entered my manually on the Nexus Player.
I've attempted resets and manually entering passwords, disabling location, enabling location and still no luck.
This is a brand new out of the box Nexus Player yet I cannot access Netflix due to it thinking I'm "out of region" or something.
Just got mine today and same problem. What I did was go to settings>apps (under the device menu). Under system apps, find Google play store and click it. Click force stop and OK it. Clear cache, then clear data. Click open and Netflix should be there.
Same problem.
try update your Nexus player to lolipop 5.1.1 in Setting > apps > About
go on the google play website and find Netflix compatible with android tv
Same problem; updated to 5.1.1, factory reset, updated all apps, still no Netflix available on Google Play.
So I downloaded the APK found at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-player/help/netflix-apk-t3121671
and installed it. Worked perfectly.
It seems there are newer versions of the apk (http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/netflix-inc/) but I haven't tried it.
I don't have a micro USB adapter to use an external storage, so I placed the apk on a windows share in the network and pulled it with ES File Explorer on the Nexus Player.
You need to allow the installation of non-Play Store apps in Settings, Security.

Just grab the APK file somewhere legit. That's what I did when it didn't appear in the Play Store. Maybe you can even request it from them. I dunno.
Hi all...
First off, Asus Zenwatch (original), paired with a Samsung Galaxy S6.
If I open my watch, say "OK Google", and say "Play Dropkick Murphys", it response with "Play Music", "Playing Music", "Opened on phone", and nothing happens. If I then unlock my phone, I find it on the search screen within TuneIn Radio Pro.
Ideally, I'd like it to be playing withing Google Play Music.
Within the Android Wear app, I have Play Music as my default app when I say "Play Music". I can't find any defaults on my phone that would make it think that TuneIn is my default music app.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks!
Same problem. Moto 360 and a note 4. Just cannot figure this out.
When I ask my phone to play a song by a given artist, it opens in play music fine. When I ask my watch, it opens the God awful bloatware music app by Samsung on my phone.
The weird thing is that if I ask my watch to just "play music", it opens Google play music and plays a random song. Even if I go in and force close the Samsung music player, it opens back up.
Same happens to me. It's odd because I have an in car Bluetooth, and that has always opened Google music when I asked but when I use my watch, it opens some random app.
I'm getting the same thing with my Huawei Watch + Sony Z3. When issuing Ok Google, Play music by ****** command, it would search with Soundcloud instead of Play Music. I tried to remedy this by uninstalling Soundcloud, but now the track search occurs in YouTube Music.
Hi!
Same problem with my LG Urbane and G3. I contacted Google, they told me it was a known issue and will be fixed in one of the next updates, if not the very next.
Regards
Damn I found thus and was hoping for a solution. Looks like an update has screwed us all!

Current solution
After some research I found out how to fix this, and it is not through Android Wear as you would expect.
If you go to the Google App on your phone, tap the menu button on top and tap on settings, then hit "phone search" you can uncheck the "Play Music" option. This will turn off the 'search' from Google Now for playing music.
Then you can go back to google now and say "Play SongNameHere", and it will ask which app you want to use.
This works, but is not the ideal solution if, for example, you want to use the search on your phone, but a single app through your watch. Luckily, I don't use the search on my phone so this solves my problem.

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, unchecking that box didn't seem to have any effect on either the phone search or Android Wear.
I'm running Nexus 6 Chroma ROM with a 1st Gen Moto 360, and the only way I've found to "fix" the issue is to uninstall TuneIn.
So now with songza gone. I tried to using google play music on my Nexus player but it seems to be stuck on an old version. 5.9.1854R when the current version is 6.3.2317v. And I need that version to get the Songza playlist items that have now been incorporated into google play music.. but my nexus player will not update.. it tells me my old version is current. Any one else having this issue?
I have noticed the same thing. The only thing I was able to do to get the streaming playlists on the NP right now was to cast from Google Play Music on an Android device. Google should have planned this better.
Hmmm yea just realized this as well.
Ya I also just did a force install of the latest google play music APK and it just crashes when you open the program. Wonder when they will fix this...
Was coming on to post the same results.. Wonder if play services needs to be updated as well?
I just subscribed for a month and it showed up, so it seems to be just a paid service

songza features are free I can use them on my phone and tablet and even goto the website and use it like songza worked... for free.. Its just not working on the nexus player or Android TV interface.
I'm having the same problem. Works fine on all my other devices. I'm in Canada, in case this may be a regional thing.
My subscription expired. and access to the streaming gone as well
Hello guys
Try to clear cache and app data, worked for me. Using stock Android 7.0 and latest GPM version.
