Unable to gain root access with either Magisk or SuperSU - Xiaomi Redmi 4 Prime Questions & Answers

Hello Everyone,
I'm having a very difficult time while attempting to gain root access to my device.
The bootloader is unlocked and I have successfully installed TWRP and tried several different ROMs trying to get a feel for one I like the best. I have also attempted to use TWRP to install both Magisk and SuperSU (not at the same time) and both methods appear to install successfully, but when I reboot to phone and use any root checker apps, they all say that the phone has no root access.
This has been going on now for several days. I keep attempting various methods and nothing works. Any chance someone could suggest a method that actually will work to gain root access? This is getting to be very frustrating.
Thanks!
Tim

I learned that with magisk installed via TWRP you sometimes have to install magisk manager app for android by hand. Only with magisk manager app other apps can be granted root access.

Thank you for that advice. Magisk Manager did indeed have to be installed by hand. I was never able to get the last two versions (18.1 or 17.3) working for me however. I finally obtained root access using v17.1.

Root Permissions Not Working For Most Apps After BOK3 Keeproot Upgrade

I already had root on a much older build. I'm on BOK3 (Verizon). Root Check shows I have root, supersu seems to be working, I can drop into su via a terminal, but most my apps that require root aren't getting it. Cleanmaster, Autostart Manager, AppFreezer, Helium (None can use root). I was able to install BusyBox. Supersu shows that all these apps have root permissions granted after I was prompted. I tried setting Supersu to always allow root without prompting but it didn't work. Supersu always says that it has granted access for an interactive shell. I have no idea what to do. My phone sucks without root
Here is what I did to upgrade and keep root. I followed the instructions perfectly and everything seemed to work (But obviously not so well): http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/general/how-to-update-to-g900voe1-5-0-keeproot-t3149784
Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

Help me get rid of Kingroot

I have rooted my L8lite using Kingroot and it was successful (I think), but now I can't get rid of Kingroot if my life depended on it.
Things I have tried so far:
- Replacing Kingroot with SuperSU using the method described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/p8lite/general/tutorial-how-to-root-bootloader-unlock-t3314786
- Replacing Kingroot with SuperSU using SuperSU-Me application from here: https://androidmtk.com/replace-kinguser-with-supersu
- Removing Kingroot using the option of SuperSU to remove other SU apps
- Uninstalling from Kingroot options menu
- Restoring a backup previously made using adb
- Factory reset
None of this worked. Please for the love of god someone tell me how to remove that piece of malware from my phone. I am frustrated beyond measure and extreme close to completely giving up.
Is my only option flashing? Would that help with removing Kingroot?
Thank you.
Update: I upgraded to Android 6.0 from local storage using an update I downloaded from Huawei's official website (http://forum.xda-developers.com/p8lite/general/rom-emui-4-0-android-6-0-single-sim-ale-t3360097). Kingroot is no longer there and Root checker app says the phone is no longer rooted. Curiously, SuperSU and SuperSU-Me are still there, but I removed them using app manager without hassle. Am I in the clear now?
Update 2: After rebooting using "adb reboot bootloader" command it seems that bootloader is still unlocked, which is good. Now I have to find a better way to unroot.
Getting rid of kingroot
Hey bujamin,
Kingroot is a powerful app and removing it without losing root is a near impossible task.
However, I have a solution, not a programmed flashable zip or something but just a way to get rid of Kingroot using existing tools.
My solution :
1. Use kingroot to root your device.
2. Get a custom recovery after you acquired root with KingRoot, preferably TWRP (bear with KingUser).
3. Open Kingroot and in Settings you will find an option to Remove Root authorisation or Uninstall kingroot (depending on the version). This will remove Kingroot completely and unroot your phone too.
4. Since, you have a custom recovery installed now, you no longer need Kingroot to acquire root access.
5. Get the latest SuperSu flashable zip from here.
6. Access the recovery and install the SuperSu zip that you downloaded.
7. A Success message and an option to reboot system will be shown.
8. Reboot.
SuperSu has now been installed and can be found in your app drawer. Your phone is now rooted.

Help fixing root and installing Magisk (Nexus 6P)

Hello ^^
I am hoping that some of you guys can help me out of a little issue that i am having, i will try and explain what has happened up until now as best i can:
As many people know, the latest update to Pokemon GO, knocks out rooted users. I did not know this and updated last night, however, dispite running a custom ROM (PureNexus) and being rooted, my game loaded up like normal and let me play. It wasn't until i checked that my SuperSU that i found that root wasn't actually working at that time, so i re-flashed the latest Super SU and all was good, but, obviously, this knocked out Pokemon GO.
I read up on the trick of using Magisk to be able to turn off root and when was needed as to get the game to work, so i went about trying to get it working. I unrooted via Super SU and then rebooted and flashed the Magisk installer and PHH Superuser (as i heard this was best for compatability). After the phone rebooted i, installed the Magisk launcher and the PHH SU program from the Play Store, but when i opened any app that reuqited root, it was still telling me i wasn't rooted anymore, and thus, when i opened PGO, it worked.
I am kinda lost from here, i want to get my phone rooted again, and i want to get Magisk working so i can still enjoy PGO and some of my occasionally used apps that require root, so my questions are as follows:
1. Can you re-flash an SU over an old one to get root back, or do i need to fully un-root and root again?
2. If i was to re-flash SuperSU (with Magisk support), would this get me rooted again and allow me to flash Magisk as normal?
I am a little lost here, any and all help would be appreciated.
Thanks to all in advance.

For magisk to work, you have to use it to root and unroot. From what I understand, it temporarily removes root system wide when you do this. Basically it's a more convenient way to root and unroot.
Android Police has an article on it right now. The instructions for installation and usage are correct.
The problem is probably related to a failure to make sure all traces of previous SuperSU installations are gone.

For magisk to work it's best to fully unroot, maybe try unsu.zip,
Then have a 100% stock system and boot (kernel)
And before flashing magisk and phh, try the SafetyNet checker app in the playstore. (PoGO uses SafetyNet to check for root, same as Android Pay)
If you pass then go ahead and flash magisk, phh, and then phh app followed by magisk manager
In the magisk thread are all the instructions to follow

SuperSU works on the G5 after all

So, I wanted to use SuperSU as my main root solution(to have the latest magisk, and because it is tested and tried), I attempted rooting with super v2.81 on stock build NPP25.137.72, and to my surprise: it worked!! So now we have SuperSU alongside Magisk as our root solutions

Very cool :good:, could you provide a link and maybe some further informations?
Just flash SuperSu v2.82 on top of the aforementioned build, using twrp
however, I would like to note that even though requesting sure is recorded by the SuperSU app(and reports granting SU access) we don't have root access

Hello,
I just received my own, and want to be sure:
did Supersu worked yes or no?
can you explain the different steps from a brand new stock g5?
and does fingerprint still works after all?
thank you

Fingerprint still works, but root access very rarely works, but SuperSu does install, and for installation:
In a nutshell unlock the bootloader, flash twrp, get supersu v2.82 flashable zip on the sdcard, install the latest available app from apkmirror, and you're done

Root access for multiple users.

I want to use magisk for multiple users. I tried making new user and install magisk manager but magisk 20.4 was not detected as installed even though I am rooted. Is it possible to have root for multiple users?
