Facebook app still installed on my s10+ - Samsung Galaxy S10+ Questions & Answers

When i had my previous carrier-locked phone i thought facebook app is installed by default but it seems like even on my new S10+ unlocked that pesky app is installed by default. I bought package disabler pro for my old phone but when i tried to get it from the playstore it wouldn't let me d-load it for free.
I can only disable it so far... So is there a way to remove/ unsinstall FB for good even without buying package diasbler pro?
Anyone in the know i would greatly appreciate you could chime in... TIA!

I have an unlocked S10+ as well, also had Package disabler pro on my Note9. I ended up forking the $5 for the new version of the app. It seems the developer of this app does this almost every 6 months or so with his app, claiming it's Samsung who pulls his app from the play store everytime. I used opinion rewards to pay, so it was basically free. I was able to disable all remnants of facebook with PDP

[Q] Samsung apps offering updates for apps that aren't installed

Hi there,
I have a question about the Samsung Galaxy S5 which I wonder if anyone else has noticed...
Basically I got a message from Samsung Apps store telling me that I have updates available for some preinstalled/built-in apps. These are:
* S Note
* Optical Reader
* S Translator
* Scrapbook
However here is the interesting part. These applications are not installed on my phone! At least they don't seem like they are. For instance, they are not under the Apps menu and they don't show under Application Manager -> All.
Moreover, if I update Scrapbook then (and only then) the app is shown under the Application Manager. What is even more interesting is that if I click on the application under Application Manager, it then gives me the option to uninstall the application, instead of the option to uninstall updates which is what I really get with built-in apps such as Gmail, S Health, etc.
So if I uninstall Scrapbook after I installed it (agian, the available option is to uninstall the entire app - ot the updates as if it was a built-in app), the app disappears from my phone (as expected), and then it shows back as an available update for a preinstalled/built-in app! How weird is that?!
Is anyone else experiencing this issue? Try opening Samsung Apps, then select the option Purchased under Settings. There under Updates I can see the apps available for updates with in fact does not exist in my Android phone. I wonder if anyone else can replicate this issue?
I thought those were all installed previously, maybe I don't remember but it's not such an bad thing. They want you to try their apps to get their experience. It's understandable considering they include their own app store and some apps preinstalled.

I have the same issue. I put it down to Samsung poor wording. It's a little annoying but I can live with it.

Actually they are NOT all installed previously, and the issue is that Samsung Store keeps bugging me to update them when in fact I don't want to install them. So this is not understandable at all...
Same for me, today I disabled auto updates amd notifications in the Samsung app

Hah. in fact it just added two more apps under the "updates" tab. Samsung AllShare Cast Dongle S/W Update and NNL Fingerprint Passport.
VERY ANNOYING But I did what you suggested and disabled the auto updates.
I keep getting this happen to me too.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
i wonder if it is because the apks are installed, but not activated at a system level....
i bet you the "bloat" is built into the stock ROM somehow....maybe that's why it is recognizing it as "update" rather than "install"
I find this annoying as well. My phone belongs to the company so I don't want to root it until there's a workaround for knox so I disabled or stopped a lot of Samsung apps. I'm still getting updates for them. I went on their support website and complained. I got a response. (A lame response, but at least a response.) I also complained to the Samsung app store. Complaining here is guaranteed to not make any difference. Complaining to Samsung might eventually make a difference if enough people do it.
I just disabled the Samsung store app since I could care less about Samsung's crummy store and their apps.
Same here - I went through and "updated" all of them before realising that they weren't even installed so I uninstalled them. Some of the apps were ones that were installed as standard on the S4 - so I'm guessing that they're apps that Samsung recommend you install.
Either way, it means that any *real* updates for apps that are only in the Samsung store rather than in Play won't happen now as I've disabled Samsung updates. Well done Samsung.

Bloatware removal without root?

Hi. I have a new AT&T S7 Edge and I'd really like to remove the various bloatware on there. In the past, I've always done this via root and then Titanium Backup or similar, but it sounds like root has really become a mixed blessing on AT&T phones since the time I bought my Note 2 several years back. If I'm willing to forgo root, is there any way for me to remove the AT&T/Samsung bloatware?
Thanks in advance for any info you can provide. Much appreciated.

Thanks man. I was afraid that would be the answer, but I'm glad at least to have learned about Package Disabler Pro. Right now, I have the apps hidden with Nova Launcher, but I'd definitely prefer to disable them altogether if possible. Sounds like that's going to be as good as it gets for the S7. So be it.
Will disabling the bloatware affect the Android OS updates? Thanks again for the feedback. Much appreciated.

Anyone have a list of what every app does and which can be disabled on the att rom and which can't?
you don't need the package disabler, just use the built in app disabler, does the same thing.

Package Disabler lets you disable just about any app. Stock App Manager seemed to not be able to disable some apps, including the DirectTV Remote app, which kept popping up on me. Otherwise, it does do the same thing, just with fewer restrictions. For me, it was worth the extra couple bucks.
I've noticed the stock app manager is missing a lot of apps compared to my Note 4, yet these apps will come up in Greenify... So yeah, seems like Package Disabler is the way to go here.
Don't mean to thread jack, how do I disable the quick connect bar in the drop down menu? I'm trying to find it in package disabled pro, thanks again
Also lets not forget the free option:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/debloater-remove-carrier-bloat-t2998294
Since the subject of both the DirecTV and Quick connect notifications popped up here, I'll try to help. I did disable both.
To disable Quick connect, lower the notification shade. Expand it by either dragging down again or hitting the arrow in the upper-right corner.
Click EDIT.
At the bottom, turn off Quick connect.
I'm pretty sure this is how I got rid of the DirecTV notifications:
Click the gear icon in the upper-right corner of the notification.
Click the disable button.
I don't know how to get the Ad back, though
- LoopinFool
I have Package Disabler Pro. There's an option when you click the 3 dots in the corner to "Disable all Bloatware". I did that and unchecked these:
Amazon - com.amazon.kindle (I use Amazon)
com.facebook.appmanager (Broke Oculus app installs when it was disabled)
com.facebook.system (Broke Oculus app installs when it was disabled)
Color adjustment - com.samsung.android.app.colorblind (Might be able to disable this but wasn't sure so kept it enabled)
Flipboard - flipboard.app (I use Flipboard alot)
Gear VR Service - com.samsung.android.hmt.vrsvc (I use Gear VR)
Gear VR SetupWizardStub - com.samsung.android.app.vrsetupwizardstub (I use Gear VR)

Health Service - com.sec.android.service.health (I'm trying out the Samsung health stuff but not sure if I'll keep it)
S Health - com.sec.android.app.shealth
myAT&T - com.att.myWireless (I use the app)
Nfc Service - com.android.nfc (Samsung Pay didn't work with this disabled
Nfc Test 1.3 - com.sec.android.app.nfctest (Samsung Pay didn't work with this disabled
Photo Editor - com.sec.android.mimage.photoretouching (Built in photo editing in Gallery)
Selective focus - com.sec.android.ofviewer (Selective Focus camera mode editing in Gallery)
Samsung account - com.osp.app.signin (For locate mobile and themes)
Samsung billing - com.sec.android.app.billing (For themes)
Samsung Push Service - com.sec.spp.push (I've had problems on past phones disabling this. Need more testing)
I disabled other packages that "Disable all Bloatware" didn't catch:
AT&T Address Book - com.samsung.aab (I use Google so don't need this)
AT&T Software Update - com.ws.dm (My girlfriend has an S7 and I'll let hers update before I break mine lol)
KnoxAppsUpdateAgent - com.samsung.knox.appsupdateagent (Screw Knox lol)
Briefing feed - com.samsung.android.widgetapp.briefing (I don't use it)
DIRECTV - com.directv.dvrscheduler (I don't use it)
DIRECTV Quick Remote - com.directv.promo.shade (I don't use it)
Hancom Office 2014 - com.hancom.office.editor (I don't use it)
Smart Limits - com.locationlabs.cni.att (I don't use it)

Package Disabler Pro Link
I have been reading about Package Disabler Pro and found it impossible to find the download link. I contacted the developer. He provided the link and an explanation. Here are the excerpts.

Message Body: Is the Package Disabler Pro still available and if so, where?
Since I am new here, I am unable to post the link BUT if you search for "google play packagedisabler" in google, you can find the product and install the app. I did and it does work as promised.
Thank you for the link. What is the difference between the free and pro version? I saw that most people liked the PRO version. That was what I was looking for.
>>pro version is now free. pro will upgrade now
I am still confused by the line " pro version is now free.
the free version is the old pro version with full features. It will receive updates.
pro version will be a paid version with better support. features will be same

With a 32GB S7(or edge?) from AT&T, how much space is left after all the bloat, out of the box? THX!

The system uses around 9GB and some other lingering stuff another 1GB so out of the box you already lose 9.125gb ish. Available to you will be around 23-24GB. You can also just put in a 64gb microsd but it won't be adoptive storage but having the microsd card slot helps out a bit.

Device Help can't even be disabled?

Almost all of the AT&T apps can be uninstalled or at least disabled, but Device Help, which is just a stupid "How To.." app is stuck there. Is this a bug?
I was able to "Hide" it in the app drawer settings though, so that's nice.
I was able to disable it via Package Disabler Pro, but not in the App Settings. I believe it was like that on my Note 7 as well.
Just buy bk package disabler on play store. Its better than Samsung package disabler because it shows you what is actually running and how much ram it is using. Be careful what you disable though

Facebook app cant be uninstalled?

Why the hell can i not uninstall the facebook app? I only received the phone like an hour ago but so far iam very happy! No issues etc I was just uninstalling some apps however and was quiet please that theres very little bloatware but the one remaining app i want to delete 'Facebook' cannot be deleted! Why? The facebook app was always an app that was up to the user wether they wanted it or not! After all..... not everyone uses facebook and not everyone wants to use the app so why force it on us with no option to uninstall?

No mine is factory unlocked! Ironically theres very little bloatware on this device in comparison to previous devices! Iam impressed!! Facebook is probably the only app pre installed that i don't want but sadly i cannot uninstall it
I think Facebook is part of operating system installed on the phone, so it's kind of permanent, but you can disable it and that was the first thing I did on my phone. However for some strange reason facebook installation manager is used by Oculus to install it's VR applications and since my kids use VR to play sometimes, I had to enable it back, but facebook application itself can be disabled.

Almost all samsung apps were indeed uninstallable this time around, which impressed me, too. I think if you really wanted to get rid of FB, you'd have to root your phone and delete the APK from the system partition.
just disable it, it's better than nothing
Yeah I was pretty puzzled too. Weird that they have Facebook as a system app.

There are 2 Facebook apps on my phone: Facebook app installer and Facebook app manager, you can disable manager but keep the installer for Oculus to work. BTW you won't see the installer until you enable system apps.
I rarely use facebook, but when I do I use it on either chrome or the samsung browser. I use it in facebook mobile mode, but when I want to check any messages I have to switch over to desktop mode as mobile mode will prompt to install facebook messenger. Bottom line, you don't need the facebook app to use facebook, use chrome or samsung browser (lately I am finding I like samsung internet better as it seems to make text the proper size to be more easily readable and also you can add an extension to sync your chrome bookmarks and history to the samsung internet browser) - anyway, use one of these browsers in mobile mode. The facebook app has too many permissions and location following for my tastes. Eff that. I disable it with package disabler pro.
Facebook is needed to do VR. If it's not enabled oculus doesn't launch.

It looks like Samsung made deals with companies which are kinda like enemies to each other. For example messaging apps:
Google - CHECK
Facebook - CHECK
Microsoft- CHECK
Samsung - CHECK

A friend called me using facebook on pc and asked me to help him call a taxi to his home and he told me the address cos his phone was dead and he couldnt call. I ended the FB call and called my usual taxi number (gsmcall) . Ususally, someone picks up and asks where you want the taxi... But instead i get computer voice saying "press 3 if you need taxi for "my friend's address" I didnt give anyone the address and it wasnt even written. but somehow the computer knew where i wanted to call taxi for. I ended the call without speaking to anyone cos it was strange and later i received sms that taxi was waiting. A taxi lady called to tell me my taxi was waiting then i asked her how they sent taxi to me without me giving her the address. she ignored my question and told me taxi is waiting.. then the taxi guy left.
It was scary..
So i went to my facebook app and messenger app to check the app permissions (there are so many permissions granted to facebook without your permission and you dont have access to disable it.. "like record your calls without your knowledge, and many more.."
i found this paid appp "advanced permission remover" it helps u view all those permissions you dont have access to and dissable them, the app creates new apk and the you uninstall the one you have before installing the new app.
But i get error message that "app cant be installed because its conflicting with app that have the same name" both fb and messenger...
I found a way to unistall facebook from system using computer without rooting my Note 8 which i can tell you but it didnt help. After uninstalling, I still cant install my modified fb app. It still says app is conflicting and when i install from playstore, atleast to have it as user app not system app. the facebook app installs itself back to system and you cant uninstall. So you have to do the whole process again using pc if you dont want it
i dont know why FB has to be a system app and the rate at which facebook spys on you is ridiculous.. if you having a discussion about someone and your phone is close to you. after a period of time, that person shows up as friend suggestion..
pls suggest a good third party app to use instead of the main facebook app

Do you have an unlocked S8 or a sim-locked one?
If the latter, Facebook app could be part of the bloatware installed by your carrier.
Download BK package disabler (samsung ) from the play store. The app can remove system apps without root. Btw Facebook wasn't system app on my S8 I can easily delete from my phone.

Bk disabler pro no longer work anymore. The dev add a plugin in the playstore but not working yet.
Yup, whenever I open mine it starts to flash black and white and nothing ever shows up. I have to press the home button to go back home, otherwise the back button doesnt work.
dont know how, but it killed the stock email app for me... crash when opening any email.
after remove the package app and the new engine thing...
removes email, reinstalled, clear data, nothing helped... so factory reset it again.
You will need to download the add-on app for Package Disabler pro for it to work. You will need to launch the add-on app, activate it, then launch it again and it will automatically start the package disabler app and it works fine afterwards. It is working on my S8 and no issues. It is a bit weird that they changed the process and it is a bit more complicated now but overall still does a good job with the apps. I wiped the existing setup and I had to reconfigure the apps all over as it did not maintain the previous settings.
I created an apk of an older version of the app on my other device. It installed w/ no issues. I was able to disable once again. I'm on a Note5 and Android N.

This is why there have been almost daily updates of the app, trying to fix all sort of issues with it.
The no update since the dev broke the app is killing me...
Hi,
After the update with the PDP engine 2.0 updates from Google Playstore takes forever to update - downloading is fine but when its going to install the downloaded update it takes forever.
What is worse is that Tasker profiles dont trigger anymore - the tasks run fine inside Tasker.
Even worse I uninstalled the crappy update of Package Disabler Pro and the ****ty PDP engine and that did not solve any of the above problems.
I have tried to uninstall ALL updates that have been updated in the last week but still have the problems.
By far the crappiest update I have ever experienced.
Anyone having the same problems? And maybe a solution. It happened on all my devices after the Package Disabler Pro update.
Thanks in advance,
Simon
I use BK disabler and have had no issues at all. Still all working as should since my last Samsung ota update.
Hi guys, I've been using BxActions to remap this crappy Bixby button, but it's not that stable and sometime Bixby appears and it's annoying!
So I have purchased that Package disabler Pro yesterday, and it works. but I'm here because this PDP engine 2.0 thing looks too fishy to me, especially because I'm using NetGuard Firewall and PDP engine 2.0 demands internet access! why?!
Yes it doesn't have too many permissions (except SD card) but it feels too fishy anyways!
I don't want to root my new S8+ (maybe later) but I had to do soothing about Samsung's bloatware, can't believe that they are still punting crap-ware in their devices (I used to have Nexus).
Any alternatives to Package disabler pro? or can I trust it and keep using it?
Thanks!
I am using bk disable pro since my last update in late april. Using Singapore international s8 g950fxxu1aqdg. Non root. All stock. No issues at all.
For my phone, there's no software update in May. Still waiting.

The PDP Engine requires the same permissions as the old Package Disabler Pro app, since now it's the new real disabler app as Samsung is strongly fighting against the previous apps.
i updated the app without reading all this. it enabled all what was disable. and noticr thisnnew app which needed permision. i just imported all my disable apps and it worked flawless. havent had any issues woth it.......YET

Thanks for the info, but I still have 2 apps for one purpose, 1: Package disabler pro, 2: PDP Engine.
I'm thinking about removing those two, and Installing BG Package Disabler instead - any cons and pros I should know about?
Is BG Package Disabler better than the one I use?
Thanks!
All old type apps will probably work until the latest or next firmware updates will be released by Samsung
In my case, yesterday my Exynos S8+ received AQEB OTA update and the new PDP+Engine app still works.
Both the apps are necessary, as this is the way to trick the new Samsung's restrictions.
BTW, also BK Package Disabler now requires the companion app (plugin):
