One is a proximity sensor (turns off the screen when it's up against your face during a call) and the other is a light sensor (for the backlight's auto-dimming function)
its how the gov't is tracking you.
actually i'm glad as all the other phones get front face cameras i won't have one, no one needs to see my ugly mug.
Lol awesome first post!
it is an eyescanner? or a whole to feed the pink elephants?
I have some Risperidone for you...

Actually with any luck front cameras will prevent many people from getting together in the first place
dont think its coming to this country but the rest of the world uses it, at one point last year we were headed in that direction but the minmo7 devices turned it down unless the companies are still waitin to unleash the devices but the network can handel the data

If you want to get real technical about it, one of the holes is a light sensor that is sensitive to daylight for backlight brightness control and IR for proximity sensing, the other hole is an IR led that turns on during a phone call. When you hold the phone next to your face the IR led bounces off your skin and back into the 1st hole telling the HD2 that you have it near your face.
Try this, initiate a cell call on the HD2, then hold a video camera over those 2 holes. you'll see the IR LED lit up. It only lights during a cell call. Even better if you have a sony camcorder with nightshot mode activated, though just about every CCD/CMOS sensor is sensitive enough to IR even with the internal IR filter in place that you should be able to see it
Im going to take a guess that the IR led isn't just constantly lit, but likely pulse width modulated to some frequency the HD2 recognizes that way the light sensor can tell the difference between the IR bounce back and ambient light. I couldn't tell with my camera that it was PWM, but it could quite likely be at a frequency greater than 30hz, which you wouldn't be able to see on a standard video camera at 30fps. you'd need a high speed camera, or another IR sensitive photo diode attached to an oscilloscope.

Awesome, thank you for the white paper I love that kind of stuff!
If it is quite dark, you can see the LED blink about once a second...
Heyy all,
Actually the guy was asking if that's a FRON camera. Yes it is!!!

I think you're looking at the notification led on the far left of the earpiece speaker grille. I highly doubt you can see the IR LED with your naked eyes. Were talking about the two dots under the glass just to the left of that.

That sensor is not a front camera. its a photodiode http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photodiode i guess you could call it a 1 pixel camera lol

Believe me i can tell if it is an LED otherwise I wouldn't be doing my masters in electronics
and to answer your question, it definitely not the notification LED or the light bleeding from it into the adjacent space. when a call is in progress and it is very dark around, you can just make out the faint blinking.

Wait for HD3 to solve the problem just for you
I have a problem with the camera of my phone. The screen starts blinking continuously after a few seconds I reach the camera app. I hear a very low noise sounds like a small explosion during each blink. The blink is like taking continuous shots but does not capture any photos.
I will try to upload a video when I get home to define the issue better.
I wonder if anyone had lived or heard about such a problem.
I use official 2.3.5 rom.

Does that with my led. Flashing a different rom could fix that.

Hello everyone recently I have noticed that the G6's proximity sensor is emitting a faint red light which is really visible in a dark room. I have the phone for over a month and this is the first time this has happened? Prior to the issue, I just updated Facebook and Messenger Lite. I also don't have Viber installed. Please help been reading a lot and can't seem to solve this.
P.S. I tried booting into safe mode but even in safe mode the red light is still there.
It is totally normal, the sensor Is always working, even with the screen off

Why did happen just now? I had the phone for a month and it never had the red light back then.
Maybe you didn't noticed it

Do you have the red light too?
My OnePlus 5 has a slight red tint on the bottom half of the screen which is especially noticeable on white background at high brightness.
What's weird is though when I watch a video on YouTube even for just 30 seconds or so the tint disappears.
It comes back after 5-10 seconds though like color settings get changed or something.
Does that mean if I use an app like kcal to calibrate the display and make the tint go away?
I only ask because I know next to nothing about rooting and I don't wanna screw anything up.
I think you turned night mode on then the screen gets an red tint.

No. Night mode is off.
Contact Oneplus Support. Take a picture and Open a ticket
Hi there did you manage to fix it?

Not yet. I'll root after the 8.0 ota.
Strange that happens only on few users did you place a ticket on OnePlus Support?

No because it's a defective AMOLED issue I guess. I would have just returned it if I had noticed it before. Hopefully I can make it less annoying using kcal.
