Back side material - Samsung Galaxy S10+ Questions & Answers

I know that the screen has scratch resistant glass but what about the back side?
I left my s10 plus green prism on a table and when I lifted it up there was a small scratch.. I just got the case today... Never in the past had I ever scratched a mobile so fast.. Lol
At first I thought I had left the protective film on...

From Samsung's website:
*Gorilla Glass 6 only available on Galaxy S10 and S10+ front glass. The rear glass on Galaxy S10 and S10+ and all of Galaxy S10e are made with Gorilla Glass 5.
The 512GB and 1T come either ceramic back which is more scratch resistant.

ZF2 GorillaGlass3 protection is just a joke!!

My Z008 has got scratches out of nowhere. I always check before placing my phone under pant pockets. Still don't know how come these scratches are appearing. Now looking for a screen guard.
It's the gorilla glass 3 problem, I had the same scratches on my galaxy s5,so I got a tempered glass which is allot better in terms of micro scratches.
But fear not it's not the actual glass that is being scratched but the nano coating on top of the glass which is used to give a soft slide feeling, that's why you only see then with the screen off and from an angle.
The camera lens also gets scratched pretty easily, ad the glossy black plastic frame around the screen also develops small dents even if my phone is in a Ringke case.
I guess they really had to cut corners to give good specs at a cheap price.

With original zen cover no scratches, both zcreen and camera lens. Only a little scratch from wife's dimond earring near front cam, she forget to close cover before phone call, so for me filmscreen is waste of money and touch felling, useless
Apparently all material very soft. Frame around screen really soft.

I have had my phone since mid July and no scratches, black bezel around camera lens still perfect. Phone goes into my pocket every day. I use a dedicated pocket ie: nothing else goes in that pocket.
With the inexpensive Ringke case Impossible to scratch camera bezel or lens when placing phone on its back as it is then inset. For people that carry stuff in pocket with the phone I am sure a case would help prevent scratches. $200 or $300 for the phone spend $10.99 for a case. Lots of people must be buying the case as price has gone up several dollars since I got it.
Tempered Glass protector
If you all are experiencing these micro scratches, it's sort of an inevitable thing. Gorilla glass scratches with grains of sand or little things from your pocket. If you're really worried about your phone, you can purchase a tempered glass screen protector, and a case to fully protect your device!
Case and tempered glass screen protector are a must. Added them as soon as I took my zen out the box
Tempered glass save my screen from crack also.
Even glass broken, but my phone screen is protected.
I've had no issues other then dropping and breaking the screen but the repair guys told me this phone for the cost is really well built with easy repairability

I quit using a case months ago (cheap crappy pleather wallet case I bought for it just irritates me, and my wife pinched my clear soft gel case). No scratches on screen, one or two minor dents on the black plastic edges but you'd need a magnifying glass to notice them. Very pleased - my previous phone (black slate iPhone 5) got scratches on it if you as much as looked at it, and silver scratches on slate iodised aluminium looked bloody awful.
i have a cover and dont worry about scratch )
Yea same problem got alot of faint scratches out of nowhere threw a tempered glass on
Have quie a few phones and tablets, every one since the Samsung Galaxy S3 has had a tempered glass screen protector installed.
I know this phone is supposed to be cheap in comparison with say, the note 5, but I don't have around $500AUD to throw away just because I cracked the screen, even $200 to repair is a kick in the nuts....
Those glass protectors have helped a lot of my phones survive intact.
I don't care if I don't notice the scratches when the screen is on.
For those hoping miracles on gorilla glass:
Diamonds only can be scratched by diamonds
Sapphire only can be scratched by sapphire or diamonds
Gorrillaglass can be scratched by the diamonds, sapphire or whatever is harder than GorillaGlass, this is the rule.
Where you can find things harder than gorilla glass?
a Jewelry ? sure,
the floor? - maybe, some dirt particles actually are are sand, in some places sand is composed by limestone someties harder than gorillaglass.
your pockets? very likely specially if you have two cellphones, the sapphire cover on the lens camera easy can scratch the gorillaglass on other phone, also some pencils have diamond particles on its graphite, further DIAMONDS PARTICLES ARE VERY COMMON, SINCE SiNTETIC DIAMONDS ARE USE AS ABRASIVE ON MANY DRILLING TOOLS.
So, protect your gorillaglass if you hate scratches, harder is not warranty to be invulnerable.

Scratches Already WTF

we just purchased galaxy s7 edge last 2 weeks and there is 2 hairline scratches already i mean our family don't have point nails and my mom don't bring it outside whenver she goes its just on the house
and the home button has 1 scratch already wtf pls help?
i think the scratch is from the inside of the coating hmmm i can see it only when u flash a light or through the sun
You must buy a cover for this device. Moving with it inside your home, not putting in your pocket, placing it around, it's a definitely risky situation: there could be something that scratch back surface or front surface. Fortunately edges allow cover producers included Samsung to place higher corner at the top and bottom, so it stays on the front without touching what's leaned on. Glass scratches! EVER, gorilla will never tell you
I have the same issue.
I got my device on Monday, Tuesday morning i noticed the first big scratch on top of the screen.
Wednesday morning i noticed another one, this time on the bottom.
They are rather huge, and the funny thing is that when i clean the device, the scratches are gone.
When i use the device and the screen is covered with fingerprints, then they reappear. So I must assume that the oleophobic coating is damaged.
And i think I found out where it happened. In the pocket of my jeans on the inside I have stitches . Seems that when i move around, these stitches will rub on the device and destroy the coating.
This is the first phone where this happened. Ever.
Now i ordered a oleophobic spray and hope that I can repair it.
which spray did you order i need as well and from were
Fusso. Amazon. Expensive. I use rain x though. Apply liberally and then wipe liberally with slight damp microfiber cloth. May need to wipe a couple days to get it to desirable level of smoothness and not leaving bad streaks. But I also do this in screen protectors. I never use the glass directly.

Silly. Samsung uses the same Gorilla glass everyone else uses, and they all use similar oleophobic coatings.. It's no more susceptible to scratches than any other phone.
Yup, i got i minor one how i dont know but now i have a case and screen protector.

Just the front is gorilla glass, the back is normal glass.
And the back of the htc is metal, not glass. Stupid comment.
The front of every high-end Android phone sold in the US is Gorilla Glass 4. Yes, the same glass.
well thats me rip my s7 edge has back stratches already regret buying this ****
I've had my Note 4 for a year and a half, not a single scratch, hairline or other. Day 3 with my S7edge, I have several fine scratches. I don't know if it's the curved glass, but this screen is definitely not durable.

My previous S6 Edge+ got a hairline scratch on the display almost right away. It was only visible when the screen was clean.
That's the reason I put a protector on my S7 Edge the second I pulled it out of the box.
The SAMOLED displays definitely scratch easily, or at least the coating does.

Cracks on screen or plastic screen protector? (huawei p10 plus)

Hello there,
I don't understand one thing. I bought brand new huawei p10 plus. Few weeks later i got cracks for no reason on my screen but they where on the very front glass. Is that crack on plastic protector or on an actual screen? Is there any protector anyways? Can i use my phone without that plastic protector? Last phone i had was samsung galaxy core (yes, pretty old phone) so i don't know a lot about these new phones.
Thanks!
There is a plastic screen protector preapplied on the p10 and p10 plus but is just a film layer, it should not be cracked, only scratched.
however I did remove from mine because supposed to be a dead pixel on the LCD, but it was just a piece of dust.
and did not find a perfect protector for a while and this and the Huawei Flip case made my Gorilla Glass 5 scratched as hell.
Ghost Shield is a good protector film, soft, and cover all the glass except the fingerprint reader.
but if you want glass protector I find one what is good enough called Motcha.

[S10+ ceramic black] Screen scratches

Hi all,
I've used the S10+ black for 1 week now and found several micro scratches and one slightly deeper one on the front already. No screen protector, but treated the same way as my S8 for 2 years. The s8 has spent time with keys and other stuff in my pocket, yet nothing happened to the screen over the years. The S10 though...
Whats your experience so far?
The S10 plus comes with a pre installed screen protector. Is the scratches on the protector or you removed it? And the Gorilla glass 6 is pretty soft and scratches at 6 hardness. So you need one if you removed the screen protector by mistake.

Yes, I've removed the protector, of course. As I did with all the Galaxy models in the past. I wasn't aware it was "needed" for this model? That'd be a new one. I mean,. people said about the Gorilla 5 it'd be softer (with the S8 2 years back) and indeed, it didn't take hits from nothing. If I can believe Gorilla's website, the 6th gen is supposed to be better scratch resistant than the 5th.
GG6 being softer (to resist breakage) but more scratch prone is a concern of mine. 1 week in I have still not removed the screen protector.
LOL, so we can drop it from an airplane and pound it with a sledge hammer, but don't put it in your pocket with spare change.

No wonder.. Too bad, this is an actual real screen protector installed by Samsung, not the usual flimsy plastic film that covers a new phone. This was mentioned in the news. I also did not know about it but I did not remove it when I first got the phone as I realised it was a screen protector after looking at the quality of the film.
Look at the s8 and s10 durability test videos on the JerryRigEverything channel
The durability test videos on the JerryRigEverything channel show that both the s8 and the s10 screens start scratching at level 6.
The most logical explanation of what happened to you is that your s10's screen got in contact with a material harder than anything else your s8 encountered before.

Well, it hasn't. Maybe its faulty. I will return it due to faulty display durability and order a new one ?* Thank the EU & Germany for customer rights and laws in this regard. But BTW; it was almost the same with my Galaxy Watch. The bezel was very susceptible to scratches. Sent it in to Samsung and they replaced the whole display incl. bevel for free. So... Maybe Im just very unlucky.
S10+ screen scratches
My husband and I both purchased the s10+ and both phones have micro scratches on them. This Gorilla glass is not as good as previous samsung models. And, NO, the phones did not come with a screen protector.
---------- Post added at 10:43 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:59 PM ----------
Just checked the phone and found there is a screen protector on the phone. Apparently this is the reason there are so many micro scratches which I cannot clean.
I took mine off because it had deep scratching and replaced with a tempered glass protection, which was good for a month until it fell off last week. Luckily I have no scratches yet, although I'm very cautious of which pocket I put my phone in and never put anything else along with it. Doesn't mean there's no micro scratching I can't see though.
Newer generations of Gorilla Glass became less scratch resistant in favor of greater drop protection because Gorilla Glass doesn't currently know how to maximize both. Drop protection was given higher priority when smartphone bezels started to disappear and many owners were cracking the displays on their expensive new phones the first time they dropped them.

Need a comparison of stock rear glass cover of 6T question

I just had the rear cover of my Mirror Black 6T replaced and I'm convinced they've bodged it - the glass back now has a protruding edge all the way around, almost like a glass screen protector would feel. I don't have another 6T to compare it to, can anyone provide a closeup photo of the edges of their phone backs to show that it should be fitting flush with frame/body of the phone?
here is my phone, the glass is pretty flush with the body
