Hey everyone
You know how some apps have this option to give you info based on your device to make roaming around it easier?(like xda when you click on my device and it takes you directly to forum based on your device)i tried that with my s10+ and on xda it was identified as a note 3 while on drippler i only got (android device). Can anyone try and confirm if this is the case with you as well?

Hey guys
Now this is going to sounds really stupid but none the less this is the situation:
I happened to get my hands on a Lenovo Thinkpad Australia version through some IT testing I am doing for a company.
It is not locked down and they want my general feedback.
Problem is, I have no idea what they gave me:
If i go to the about tablet this is the info I am provided:
Model: ThinkPad Tablet
Android: 3.1
Baseband: R3B01
Kernel: 2.6.36.3
Build Number: *blahblah*A310_02_*blahblah
*EDIT* removed system serial number
here is the problem, it has no identification to which version it is. I can tell you it requires a sim card.
The problem is i believe it is very out of date, I try and hook it up to my wireless and it does not seem to work..
No idea why, it is a hidden SSID, is it a compatability issue with this? All info is provided correctly and it can see it when it is saved. Simply wont connect.
Further more, searching the lenovo website is near useless as I do not klnow where the hell the serial number is on this thing./ The one number i entered it said it was wrong *gut instinct says it is right*
As such, I want to simply upgrade my version of the lenovo tablet so I can do some real testing with it. As close to stock as possible, I need the bloody wireless to work (work location so cannot unhide the SSID - company protocol).
After some testing I will most likely wipe it and run a *cleaned version* I guess I need to know if there is any major differences between world versions.
Thanks for your help.. Also is there some all-in-guide?
btw, I know these are stupid questions especially as I been on android since 1.6 and have developed with them. Its just not playing ball this tabled.
Shouldn't post your system serial number per Lenovo. Can't help with anything else. Best of luck.

BTW the build number is more useful than the SN.
I agree with toenail_flicker - should not post the System Serial Number here.
Anyways, since you posted it, I got a quick check and got the following for your device:
Type: 1838
Model: 2EM
IF you need to check it for yourself, check the following links (input the device type and SN):
Parts look up - http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product-and-parts/partsLookup.page
Warranty Status Lookup - http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product-service/warranty-status/default.page?
for Thinkpad tablet guides, you can check this: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/guides-and-manuals/default.page?

You had to quote both posts
Lol,
Well I guess the first problem is the wireless, it is hooked up to another WEP access point, it will not connect to a WPA2 access point (hidden or not).
When i say sim card I mean 3g services. I do not need to use it abroad so wireless is fine for its current purpose.
*removed the system build number* as suggested
I have noticed that the version is quite old and no easy means for updating. Is there an advantage to updating it? i.e. major bug fixes?
At the moment the tablet is useless until I can get it hooked up to a WPA2 access point. Is there a known problem?
So can anyone actually tell me which version of thinkpad I have? I have noticed firware version differences for different locations, is there a way to find out which version the AUD uses?
First time for wifi you may have to hand enter everything - I did. Later if you remove the connection it will recognize it and you just need the password.

Check this one out: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-slate-tablets/18382EM-Wifi-Problem/td-p/726997
You have the same type and model number as the OP stated, and you definitely would be using the ROW build.
OPs workaround was to reset to factory setting to make WIFI work. And since you will not be using 3G, this should be a temp. solution for you.
But I would still recommend you have it fixed since you are still under warranty.
Factory reset should set u right. after doing the reset make sure u enter wifi info manually. and that its set for wpa2. aftetwards itll slways pick it up. let us know how it goes so we can help firther if need be. second option would be to apply the update from sd card. good luck!
hey
I will try the factory reset tonight..
hopefully that will solve the issue, I will provide an update when feasible.. prob next monday.
My gps seems to not be working on my nexus 4 but since i have it in high accuracy (and have tried other settings) doesnt get my location when i try to use google maps it just says searching and never finds it. Main reason why i want it fixed is because I want to use the android device manager but it cant find my device it can only send a ring request. I know im not doing anything wrong on that part because i got an s2 and a nexus 5 to connect. If you guys can help me it would be great
Mine works perfectly.

First off download something like U-Centre and run it with you outside if it finds the satellites then you know the hardware is good,if your phone is rooted you could also try changing the gps.conf as I run a custom one and it works better than stock

Which custom conf do you use?
Mine crapped out a few months ago. Not completely but it was unreliable in all apps. Called Google and they had me reset the phone. Was still poor. They sent a replacement phone and its GPS is as good as new.

Hi all, this is my first post or thread, i came here cause i heard from ppl this is best site for asking questions about cell phones, i started reading allot this forum and wow did i enter the other world i really like and wanna participate in.
Srry for little intro and lets get back to topic. So i got my first "normal" android and got trouble with it. I am using Samsung galaxy s5 g900F (european) factory unlocked and T-mobile as carrier with 4.4.2 kitkat. I have a big problem with a data connection that keeps going off every 30sec to 5 min if i use option to search and auttoconnect on LTE/WCDMA/GSM option. I read forum but no1 is mentioning this model as problematic 1 so now i post thread about.
Does any1 know what could be problem and how to solve it. Sometimes my data connection comes back and sometimes it doesnt and i have to switch type of network to get back again online. All other options that don't include LTE auttoconnect work just fine, i tried to get another SIM from carrier but same problem, i tried to get another Phone since i work in hardware firm and still same problem on another device, both were same models.
I still didn't put any ROMs but i really consider doing it maybe l8r on, it is stock version.
Pls be genttle since this is first time i post, maybe i did it on wrong place but i did read rules and everything and i think i did it on right place.
Ty in advance.
I did have a slightly similar problem years ago - when in roaming my phone could not connect to anything. What helped was a change of simcard for a new model - after that all was good.
Since you did try your SIM on a different phone (same 900F?) I would advise you to try: first on a completely different brand and phone model - if you can.
If this does not solve your problem do shake your service provider a bit - they could have supplied you with two faulty SIM cards in a row - that can happen. Otherwise - maybe there is a stupid limitation in your service plan which is causing this. There is no - to my knowledge - ready answer to the problem you have described.
Best of luck and if you do solve it come back and post - it will be very useful to lots of people for sure
Cheers!
Too many variables. You haven't observed enough of a pattern yet or tried enough things to narrow it down a bit. It could just as easily be carrier side issues as a bug in the firmware not negotiating a new connection if the LTE signal is lost.
A number of people were having data disconnect issues and that was addressed in the 4.4.3 /4.4.4 update. So that is one option to consider. And you could open a support ticket with your carrier. That is hit and miss as to results, but sometimes tickets actually resolve issues.
There are also a number of apps that may mitigate or possibly even solve your issue. Have a look at 4G LTE Switch and LTE Discovery.
.
Will try it today. Thanks for the help. Really appreciate it.

yep i tried on same model 900F, hmm i will try it on another cell phone with LTE and will post what happened, thx allot for info
Hi,
I recently obtained a GS5 (t-mobile). If is running Android 4.4.2 and appears to be the stock ROM from T-mobile. No matter what I do, I am unable to get the GPS to lock onto any satellites. When I use an app that requires location (yes, I've turned on location services and shared it with google location services), it just continues to show "Searching for GPS". I have experimented with this at various locations in my geographic area and it simply doesn't ever connect with the GPS satellites. Therefore, apps that need location information are extremely inaccurate because they're only getting information from the cell towers.
My service is straight talk. The phone is unlocked and I'm able to make and receive calls without issue/problems. Has any seen this issue before and/or have a suggested fix? Thanks.

There are existing threads where this has been asked and answered. A valuable resource for those who look there. In short, start by ruling out software issues - check settings, factory data reset, write a full stock firmware image. That will resolve the issue for most users.
If not, then you would presumably have a hardware problem and need to have your phone serviced in or out of warranty.
.
I recently bought 2 ZTE Axon 7s from Amazon (US).
I immediately unlocked the bootloaders, rooted both and installed Android 7.1.1 -- version A2017UV1.1.0B25 from various instructions I cobbled together from these XDA forums.
GPS on one device shows no signs of life whether I use Maps.ME or "GPS Status" (sorry, can't post links to show the exact programs to which I am referring.
[The other Axon 7 is, unfortunately, 10,000 miles away until August 1 -- with a low-tech-skils user (my Mom) who can't possibly ascertain whether the GPS is functioning. The phone seemed 100% functional before I sent it off, but I didn't check GPS without turning off WiFi, Bluetooth, Cellular location-finding assistance . . .]
Can anyone with a similar Axon 7 configuration confirm that their GPS receiver is working (i.e. in Android settings: Location/Mode, set to "device only: use GPS to determine location" )?
Does your device lock onto a GPS signal? Outside only? Inside a building?

Can't you tell her to open Google Maps maybe? I don't know how it would react if it had no GPS (it could pinpoint your location with cell towers?) , but I don't think that's normal behavior
P.S. I say Google Maps since it should come preinstalled
