Caller ID and spam protection turns off (Pie) - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

If I restart the phone (whether cache and Dalvik was deleted or not) is on. As soon as the screen goes off for the first time (30 sec) and I turn it back on, the controller is off.
If I turn on the knob now, it will stay on forever as I want it to. Does anyone have an explanation?

My Spam and Caller ID protection is also turning itself off.
Device S8+ G955FD ZTO, Rom DBT.

Same issue on S10. Must be a fault in one ui

Same exact thing on my S10+. What an annoying bug!

Same thing on my Note8, Definitely a stupid bug! I was going crazy trying to fix it...

Me too. Also, new phone app automatically goes full screen - can't get out of it until you hang up on the call. I noticed that, because you can't try to swipe up to report or block spam calls.
Any ideas?

Same on Galaxy S8

Remove Android Pie

The bug has been fixed with the new update.

Nope not fixed yet on my Note 8 in Canada anyway (n950w). Samsung has been slacking this year.

Still having issues on my Note8 950U with the July patch. Anyone else still having the Caller ID and SPAM protection turning off after reboot?

Goes out of Standby by itself

I have noticed that my x2a goes out of standby when I am putting it into its case (on my belt). This causes the display to turn on again -- wasting battery time and possibly starting programs.
Has anyone else noticed this? I find that if I hold the phone for an additional 3 seconds befor I place it into the case, going out of standby does not appear to happen ... but that could be just operator error ... and I have tried to avoid hitting any of the buttons when inserting the phone, but the whole thing could be operator error ... or, like I think, that the phone is sensing a position change and jumping out of standby ...
Is there a fix for this?
I thought I'm the only one experiencing that problem.. The thing is, my phone is just on the table and in standby mode and then for some reason it just opens... Very weird..
Sometimes it happens to me too. i don't know why it happens.

Just a far shot:
Are you guys by any chance using the OneBridge syncronisation software?
I had this problem but it disappeared when my company switched to Activesynch/WMA for Exchange syncronisation.
i noticed my phone was doing this to, so i set it down and watch it for a while and noticed the screen will turn on when it is updating my weather or email, so this may happen when ever it automatically connects (due to some email, weather, ect.) you can try turning off data connection, and see if that changes anything. good luck

mine was off all along... so I guess it doesn't update anything when this happens...
sorry that didn't work, i'm just thinking out loud now, but my phone has recently stopped turning the screen on by itself. uhm things i've downloaded recently was the SDfix.cab and the htcSDK.cab but both of those wouldn't effect it. uhmmm. is there possibly something running in the background? the only other thing i can think of is lock your phone so you won't push button while its in your pocket, and wait for an update (which an update is unlikely to come out). sorry i couldn't help

It's okay dude, I did what you said.. I locked my phone whenever I have to put it in standby mode, and great... It doesn't turn on by itself.. so I'm guessing that I pushed some buttons while the phone is in my pocket...
cheers mate!
It's the magnet!
I know the question was asked a while ago, but noone has posted this as a possible reason.
There is a magnetic sensor for opening the keyboard in the top left corner of the device. When you move your phone near a magnet (most phone cases' covers are held by magnets) it will detect opening the keyboard and go out of standby.

I just tried that, and it does some out of standby when I pull it out of the case ... I was wondering why that happened -- sometimes, and not others -- and that answers the issue of pulling it out of the case ...
Thanks for that explaination ...
But there are other times when it goes out by itself ... but I have it is the case most of the time now, and not on the charger ... so it is not really an issue for me anymore, but it is another mistery solved ...
Yup, my X2 does the same annoying thing.
I agree, best way is to lock the screen.
I noticed that the screen part of the phone is kinda wiggly...

4.4.2 bug fix??

Bug fix ??
When updated to 4.4 on verizon I noticed that the screen doesnt lock or go back to the slide setting I set it to after a missed call. This is a headache because screen stays on, it makes me accidentally open apps and make calls, and runs battery fast because screen stays on. For those who have updated already does 4.4.2 fix this? Also is the lowest brightness still super high? Or did it get fixed back to how it was on 4.2.2? Thanks in advance.
...
You post your question, and then minutes later post ..... as if we don't care about you. Pipe-down, please.
To answer your question, I haven't had the issue you're saying. The screen locks back automatically on mine, and furthermore, the Active Notifications shows I've missed a call. Check your dialer settings, reboot your phone, and worst case scenario, FR the phone.

Power on, fade in after 5.1.1 update...

Following the update to 5.1.1, when I switch on the Note 4 using the power button, the display fades in, slowly.
It takes ~1 second and is very annoying. I've been through display settings and a few other things, but nothing I do will make it appear instantly. I've tried a few web searches, but getting nothing relevant.
Anyone else see this? Anyone got a fix?
Thanks

Disable finger print lock.
Fingerprint lock was never enabled on the device. I figured that if someone wanted to steal it, I didn't want to motivate them to cut my finger off.
Also, I read the "Lag after 5.1.1 update", but assumed (!) that the fingerprint issue would not affect me because it had never been switched on.
On a hunch, I enabled fingerprint lock, then disabled it... problem resolved. Nasty.
Thanks.

6/128GB, 7.0, I can't stop notifications from turning screen on?

With 6.1.1 I was able to stop notifications from turning on my screen. Since the update to 7.0, no matter what my settings, text messages (using Textra) always turn on the screen.
Does anybody know how to stop this?
Seems like I remember the exact same thing happened with my HTC A9 when it updated to 7.0 as well. But, I was able to stop it. For some reason, the Axon 7 will not stop, no matter what settings. Unless of course I'm missing something.
Thanks!

I have the exact same issue. Posted on official Axon 7 forum but no help so far.

Two problems cropped up -- Smart Lock blank and random temporary screen freezes

Hi, I've been using the essential phone for several days. I've installed lots of apps and other than a random glitch now and then, thinks have worked well. The system seems to be considerably faster than a Galaxy S8.
Two problems have recently surfaced. Smart lock is totally messed up (It was working for a while.) Now, when I get to the point in Security settings where I enter my pin, I get a blank screen. I've tried all sorts of things save a system reset. Smart Lock itself doesn't work any longer.
The other issue is intermittent freezes that last several seconds. Whatever the system is doing, it isn't responding at all. If I wait for a while, it proceeds to work fine.
Has anyone seen similar behaviors? Any suggestions short of a hard reset?
Thanks

Did you perhaps add a company exchange account or add some other device administrator? I've seen this issue on some of my previous devices where smart Lock is setup but my company's exchange policy disables it

For smart lock goto settings -> security - >trust agents
Toggle smart lock off, return to settings, go back and toggle it back on. Smartlock is back to normal, atleast this did the trick for me.
Thanks to both of you for ideas. I disabled two device administrators, both related to Lookout. I also deleted my fingerprints and all security. When I re-entered everything, all seemed fine. I will see if it behaves and then narrow it down.

I had to do this but I had to reboot instead of just exiting out of settings.
I'm running into this issue as well. Sometimes I can get it to come back, but then after a restart, it's broken again...

Ok, so it seems like the same issue is showing up for OnePlus devices since recently: https://forums.oneplus.net/search/13954406/?q=smart+lock&o=date&c[title_only]=1
I can get mine to freeze consistently by using chrome and browsing to flipboard.com. After I login the whole phone will freeze, not even the power button doesn't do anything. I've tested it out on a few other devices and I get the same response from my Nexus 9, also running 7.1.1. In this case at least I don't believe it's the phone but something to do with Android itself.
I'm getting the freeze as well but my power button works, when I turn off the screen and turn it back on it works for a few seconds and then freezes again

You had the Smart Lock issue too?! I did a Factory Reset to fix it here, no amount of powering off/on the device, toggling Smart Lock in "Trust Agents" did the trick, it just...was blank one day. I've had the freezes as well, haven't noticed those after the Factory Reset now that I think about that.

Interestingly, the pauses and stuttering disappeared at the same time. It is exceedingly difficult to convert these anecdotal comments into a meaningful diagnosis.
In any case, so far, so good.
Thanks! This is one of two major bugs driving me nuts!
Disabling then directly restarting worked for me, thanks for the tip!

The Smart Lock blank bug happened to me again yesterday, and I've been on NMI64c for a couple of days. De-activating Smart lock and rebooting got it working again.
Same problem with smart lock here and only solution seems to disable it, restart the phone and re-enable it...
Weird

You should be able to disable it in the trust agents settings, back up one menu the enable it again without needing to restart the phone. Someone else pointed this it out a few posts back and it's always worked for me.

1. Turn off all Smartlock agents that are on the list.
2. Reboot.
3. Turn them back on.
I have experienced a few freezes. Only after the phone sits for an extended period of time and it goes to sleep and after a restart. I actually haven't had this happen lately, seems like things some how worked themselves out. As far as smart lock I haven't had any such issue. I do have a question regarding smart lock. Do you guess have an option for enabling it when it is connected to a specific Bluetooth device?

All the on/off tinkering with trust agents has worked for me, but the fix has always been temporary. Smart Lock will be OK for a day or so before returning to its broken state/blank screen in the settings. Wish there was someone (a company) who knew what this was about and could fix it.
