my s10 plus ceramic white 512 giga,battery drain very fast ihave only 1 houre screen and its on 80%
i used most of the time facebook,messenger,whats app and i can see every few min the battery drain 1 %
can it be because those app i use drain much power?
im writting alot on those message apps
plz your help how can i know if i have problem or not?

I'd call it bad. My Pixel 2 XL with a processor that is 2 generations old, a battery that is 15% smaller and 16 months old (batteries degrade over time) and a higher resolution (assuming Samsung phones still default to 1080p) still gets better battery life than the Galaxy S10+.

Exynos or Snapdragon? I believe a majority of the Exynos users have reported horrible battery drain on idle (I know of just one exception). On Snapdragon the information is less clear at this stage.

Pie takes about a week to get used to your usage, you shouldn't really focus on the battery so much until then.
Also stop using crappy apps, even Facebook can have completely different drains on different phones of the same model, having such crappy apps gives you no right to complain about battery, you're trying to have a healthy life with a parasite inside you.
Some Reddit idiots are using this post to criticize Exynos since they couldn't believe how good battery life is according to official tests, don't give them coal.

The Facebook app is pretty good on battery life. It's MUCH better than the alternative of viewing Facebook in a web browser. Chrome uses more battery than the Facebook app and Samsung's browser sucks for battery life. And if someone wants to use Facebook or other apps you can crappy why even have such a high end phone?
I'm curious what "official" tests you are referring to? Claims from Samsung? Those never represent real world usage.

Seriously? Do you have any idea of how web view apps work?
Facebook is literally a web element viewer, a custom browser with a TON of bloatware around, autoplay, continuous telemetries, and its own message push system. If you think it's good for battery life then your overall battery life probably sucks and you don't even know it.
The alternative is not Chrome but one of the many apps that put together web's mobile facebook and activate messenger options.
So now, since you have a high end phone, you can't use facebook or other apps? Where's your logic?

It's a native Android app. The battery life of the Facebook app is far better than you get in a browser. With the Facebook app I get about 8 minutes per 1% of battery. Chrome, on average, gets about 6 minutes per 1% of battery. That's 33% longer when using the Facebook app.

You failed to consider how much the Facebook app drains battery when it's not being used. I can tell you this. With Facebook app installed drain is approx 1.6% hour or more in standby mode with the app deleted it goes down to 0.6 to 1% per hour screen off standby drain. In essence the Facebook app is a battery hog.

It's not a web wrapper in that way, but it just borrows XML elements from the same source, it performs better than HTML in that way, but they use the extra performance gain to shove more stuff in the same screen.
8 minutes per % means you can total more than 13h of SoT, so you either have a midrange device with an oversized battery, or your battery calibration isn't on point between start and end of power.
Different people could be more or less active on Facebook, that can influence the kind of content the app processes and its pace, but the biggest problem with their app as Limeybastard mentioned, is the background drain, which is null with an alternative wrapper or web.

No, the system still receives them, it just refuses to show them to the user.
If you suspect an app sucking too much power just get rid of it and leave feedback, if you really need to use it then there are utilities like Brevent that can suspend/kill apps at will, they just need adb permissions once.

If you're getting only 1 hour of SOT you should return the device. That's nowhere near normal battery characteristics for any smartphone.
From my understanding the first few charge cycles will be disappointing until the phone learns your usage patterns. My battery on the pixel 3 xl was horrid when I first got it, barely 2h of screen time but after a week or so I was seeing spikes of 5-6h sot. It's a brand new phone, have to break it in.

I run a recruitment firm and as you can imagine I am on the phone constantly.
I charged my battery night before last and i still have 30% left with 24 hours showing on battery. I think thats amazing, I installed launcher pro.
Here is the about phone information:-
Voice calls 28%
Display 28%
Android OS17%
Android system 12%
Cell standby 6%
Phone idle 4%
Dialer 4%
i dont get it when people are saying one or the other process is eating battery life or maybe i just have a superb battery in mine

Not exactly sure if it's that simple but you used 70%. 17% of this is used by a process which shouldn't even be in the list, android-os. Thus 12% of your total battery has been drained for no reason. Meaning your battery should have been at 42% at the end of the day.
Not saying 30% left is bad, it is probably better than most other phones,but it should be 42% left in your situation.

Doing a simple math should tell you that Android OS has used 12% of 70%... thus, means 17% from total battery... so he should be at 47% instead of 30%.

I´m following now for 3 weeks the batt threads and I am closely watching my batt drain but honestly I can´t find any flaw.............
While my wife with her HTC desire plays 2 x a day for 1h car drive angry birds and the desire is dry then she tried the same with my SGS II and drains only 30 %
In the morning I read via an Austrian newsreader the news of 2 newspapers for approx. 45 minutes, check mails etc. and it takes 4-5 % in this time.
During day I check mails, download newest apps from market, update existing ones, do some calls, check mails, update my calender etc.
Let´s say - compared to my HTC HD2 (with extended batt) - I use it more heavy since it became somehow part of my body ...............
Still in the evening I am on 40-45 % left and then starts heavy use (XDA, other forums, blinx funny videos, Youtube, trying new apps etc.) and plug it in around midnight with 10-15 % left ..........................
I am quite happy with this.
I have installed Startup Auditor and disabled AP News and most social hub apps, music hub, maps and some apps that load at startup.
I have Juice defender Pro trained now well to my needs
I use Android Booster to clean up and shut down apps automatically without restricting functionality of email, facebook and so on.
Android Booster also shows me EXACTLY which apps use how much of my batt and after one week of verx close surveillance I cannot find any process that eats up my juice in the background.
I fear a lot of You mistake the power-percentage of Android OS as an absolute value.
If total drain is 10% per - let´s say 5 hours - and Android OS is eating 50% it is the equivalent of 5% total juice for Android OS in 5 hours = 1 % per hour (these are approx. my values) and somehow this dream-machine has to work to get it going and doing what we want it to do .....................
Now I leave my HTC HD 2 as a backup completely unused (just updating emails every hour and calendar sync every 4 hours, weather forecast with radar charts every 6 hours) and this then consumes 20 % of my extended (!!!!!! 2.600 mAh) HTC HD2 batt.

Hibernating (S4) does not require any power (the RAM is written on disk), only when in sleep mode (S3).
You must be new or something. Rooting wouldn't cause battery drain. Its what you do after rooting. Freezing things you don't use helps out a lot. Touchwiz always runs in background.

How long was the screen on... I'm guessing 1 hour 40 minutes.
My galaxy s2 is drinking batrery juice like fish....my battery discharges at a rate if 3% per 10 minutes of wifi and light tinkering. Which is why i bought 3 soare batteries from ebay.

Agreed... all this battery discussion is getting somewhat tiring. People buy these handheld computers to conduct these battery tests to see if their phones will drain less than 10% if idling for over 24 hours... seriously? Why not just get a nice shiny paperweight?
My phone is getting hammered all day long as I use it as my computer away from the office, and I am away quite often. 2 pull E-mails + 2 push E-mails, tons of text messages with customers/my manufacturing sites, running around my region using GPS/Google Nav, conference calls throughout the day (much of which is over bluetooth), checking realtime inventory via the web, etc. I'm lucky if I have 25% left on my phone at the end of a long day.
BUT, that's the point: All my colleagues that use their Apple devices just as heavily are constantly charging their phones throughout the day. I don't bother to charge during the day and have yet to have it run out on me. After doing all the things anyone should do (ie, freezing unwanted apps, making sure there are no rogue apps running, etc), I am getting far better battery life on my SGSII than I ever did on my SGSI running custom ROMS + Speedmod battery saving kernels.
If you are getting odd drain from idling when you're doing next to nothing, there's a good chance you have something going on in the background just sapping your battery.
Does anyone know if there's a way to disable Android from automatically dimming the brightness of the display once the battery gets 'low' (<15%)? I find this 'feature'
annoying. Tried disabling 'power saving mode' and also 'auto adjust screen power', brightness is on manual as well.
I rooted today and installed titanium to freeze some apps but I cant figure out which apps I can freeze without f-ing up the phone. Can anyone tell me which apps to freeze,or forward me to a topic with this information?

Auto mainly but i adjust sometimes upwards, as ICS auto brightness can be a bit too dark for me sometimes.
I turn wifi, gps off when im not using it, NFC is off if that makes a difference. 3g is on always. Nothing special, I just "use it" as I normally would.
I think 2 days and 8 hours is pretty good going?

Hmm probably only an hours worth of "apparatus" - game, good couple of hours on google reader, facebook etc. no more than an hour on the phone.
my "normal" usage really; not trying to be overly conservative, but also not constantly on. certainly nothing to suggest that I'm getting any worse battery life than I did on 2.3.x
Next time you get this kind of usage from a full charge down to zero let us know your screen on time please.

Yes; that Android OS' looks like a statistic and therefore has a 87.8% chance of being made up on the spot (like that one!).
This is a sample of my battery life and quite unusual for me; Mobile Standby is the highest because I spent five or so hours in an area with very poor coverage, when it could get a signal it was 2G.
Wifi is on when I know I have a hotspot I can use. AutoSync off unless I need it. Bluetooth wasn't used. Screen brightness mostly at the minimum with some time at Auto. Latitude constantly running in automatic update.
Screen on time was 2 hours, 30 minutes and that included approximately 20 minutes of Google Maps (not Navigation).
The biggest difference I've made on my device is to log out of Google+. My use is mostly checking two Gmail accounts, browsing the web, using DropBox / Documents-to-Go, texting, some photography.
Disabling Latitude's AutoUpdate stops the device from waking up with the screen off (all those little blue ticks on the use bar) and makes a big difference to battery life when I'm on the move.
How can you guys take screenshot on stock?
Hold down power and vol. down simultaneously for a second or two for a screenshot.
Also, nice battery life. I've been running about a day with ~50% left, 2 hours of screen time and somewhere around 30 - 45mins gaming. WiFi on all day and calls/texting was minimal.

There's probably some rogue app sucking all your battery. Use an app like BetterBatteryStats to get a better idea of what the cause might be. That amount of battery drain definitely isn't normal.

From the top tab select kernel wakelocks. You'll need to watch that and partial wakelocks too. Run it for a few hours then post back here with pictures of both.

There doesn't seem to be any problem. None of those wakelocks was long enough to be considered a real problem. This is weird. But as for fast dormancy, you can disable it. But I have no idea how to on the S4. You'll have to search for that. There was an app for the S3 that you could try on the S4. No guarantee it'll work though.

If the wakelocks anren't the issue then what is? This is really frustrating. I googled around for hours about the dormancy-thing, but I found no hits for the S4. The S3 app doesn't work for the S4. Regrettings buying this phone after all the trouble with the laggy interface, the laggy menus, the horrendous low light smearing and now poor battery life.
Hope someone can help solve this battery issue at least.

Don't know what to tell you. Maybe you should try flashing a new firmware?
I've just jumped ship to the LG G4 after I was getting annoyed with my s6 battery. I hated the fact that for it to be vaguely good, you had to disable pretty much everything!
I've just been doing a little tweaking on my new G4 and I let it sit with all my normal apps installed to test standby. I just got to 8 hours 44minutes before the battery dropped to 99%. ( I was playing with it since the 8 1/2 hour mark).
How? I installed Greenify and Amplify.
ROM: S3V3N's rom v 6.0
Greenified:
Facebook ( Wake up path cut off)
Facebook messenger ( wake up path cut off)
My EE
One drive
Onenote
Facebook is known to be a big drain, but I use it and don't like to fully disable it. With these settings I still get Facebook notifications!
I still receive gmail etc too. It all seems to work as it should, but doesn't drain for no reason!
The typical LG (G3/G4) slow-drop-from-100-percent "issue".
G4 has it (using a proper setup), G3 has it. It says *nothing* :good:

Ahaaa thats not how it works. Keep using the phone till you get to 10% and then compare to the s6. You will notice s6 has better battery life.

I've never understood why people try to get every possible second out of the battery. They disable half the functions of the phone just to get a better battery graph. I prefer to enable everything and use the phone as it was designed for. Otherwise, you may as well just buy a basic Nokia.

Amazing (meaningless) 100%-99% drain? Of course.
Having a flat line for 8 hours when battery for example is at 25%, okay, yes then I'll be amazed. But from 100 to 99? Nope. Typical LG issue.
Im at 88% after 47 minutes screen time and 20hours 15 mins on battery. With only 2 bars of mobile signal.
Id say that's pretty damn good considering i haven't had to disable any features on the phone!
My S6 was nowhere near as good.
Post using Gsam at the end of the battery cycle, say 10%. with the app sucker list.

Just installed Gsam, checked after half hour and guess what..
Top of app sucker list.
1)Android system : 10%
2) GSam battery monitor: 8.1%
So looks like Gsam will screw up my test as its now causing drain :/

The irony
The old eternal question about battery.....? Guys you bought the phone to be as it is. You can take spare battery or charger with you. Unless you go to hike mount Everest. Even then you have solution.
But one i am agreed is that we shouldn't be Googles data provider.

i get amazing battery life just by disabling Google location services and Google Now... ever since i did that, my battery life rivals my old iPhone 6 Plus in stand-by mode, i usually get a 3-5% battery drain while asleep at night (7-8 hours)

Averages per complete charge.... Screen on is just over 3hr. Nothing special. Battery can last for a week if you never turn the screen on.

On my s6 the phone never lasted more than 2 days and i was lucky to get 3 hours screen time.
Most i ever had on the s6 was 4 hours with lower brightness than i have on the G4.
I don't need gsam or any other app to show me the g4 is lasting longer.

I'd say that your test is completely pointless. You're just testing the battery consumption of a brick in your pocket!
How realistic is it to carry around a smartphone that you don't use at all for >2 days.
In my view it's just a big waste of time what you're doing there...

Not really, because before the tweaks, the standby drain was much bigger.
Lower standby drain = more screen time, so now I know it drains less in standby I should get better battery life in ' normal' usage and more screen time.
A pointless test is person X saying " My battery life is awful" and not stating which apps they have installed and what their mobile signal is like.

Just wonder if this is normal for this phone, or you guys could give me some pointers for extending my battery life, specifically the Screen On Time?
I have:
- Stock QC2 firmware - I believe this is Nougat with the March security patch
- No Facebook installed (Disabled)
- I am on data about 8 hours a day, rest is WiFi, Bluetooth for my Watch, and NFC is off
- Generally use a black and red theme
- Doing Ad blocking with the AdClear VPN solution
- Sometimes I make conference calls of under 2 hours
- No games, no YouTube watching
With this set I can barely manage like 3 hours of SOT. Is this normal? What am I doing wrong? Any pointers? Thanks!
3 hours SOT is not normal for unrooted stock. I would suggest downloading GSam Battery Monitor and finding out what is hogging the battery. Note that you will need to manually enable the battery statistics permission with ADB for some reason, but after that it will work like normal.
The top two lines should be Android System and Kernel. If you see any non-system app in the vicinity, that is your likely culprit unless you can explain it with normal usage (for example, Firefox is at the top of the list on mine because I surf the web with it)
Alternately, if nothing odd shows up, you may have a bad battery.
The other thing you might take a look at is shutting off the Location setting that scans Wifi/Bluetooth. That is a massive battery killer

I'm typically off charge 18 hours and on data the entire time. I do run a Exchange email app that pushes email, my SOT isn't really huge, maybe around 2-3 hours and I also have BT always on and connected to my S3 Frontier. At the end of my day, I end up with with battery around 50% ish.........
Did you recently update, or did you do a clean install? Sometimes the battery can take a few days to settle in

That's pretty amazing! Yes, clean install and updated from MM to Nougat and then the latest patch.
I've got a battery monitoring app installed now... Let's see what it unveils... I'm thinking maybe it's my settings, syncing and etc, cause I NEVER get the SOTs people report on XDA LOL, on any phone really except the Mate 9 I had...

I'd give it a few days to settle in.
Battery life is SO subjective. The app's installed and the person's usage habits play a massive part in battery life, and you saying that you never get what others are, speak a lot to that.
The built in optimizers in Nougat seem to do a pretty good job at putting unused battery sucking apps to sleep.

I notice one thing, when i connect my Gear 2 by bluetooth battery on phone less about 10-15% less. With out watch and no FB and FB messenger, NFC on, most of day on data, wifi off, 5-6 hours call ( do to nature of my job) i get around 3.5 hours SOT.

I agree bud, so I think my usage pattern must be horrible, cause from the earliest Androids like Droid Incredible to Axon 7 and S7 Edge and others, I never get what people mention. And some of their claimed usage is ridiculous, they say they play games all day, LTE, Videos and still get like 5 hours or etc... Boggles my mind. My biggest battery hog I suspect is my VPN based AdGuard, maybe the vibration, but compared to gaming and etc, they sound so insignificant.

This is a actually normal for USA SAMSUNG battery which is why no1 should get Galaxy S7 on USA carriers battery is even 100 maH smaller at 3500. Battery is always crap usa versions. And I am stuck in them nougat is bad for battery nothing you can do but downgrade to Android 6.0.1 with Odin. Best battery I can upload a vid for proof att Samsung S7 edge battery sucks and so will all USA carriers s8 never buying Samsung again GG. Switch phones best option iPhones have best battery but I hate them. I'd go for a phone with biggest mAh in specs and read reviews for battery. If downgrading doesn't work sorry for all Samsung lovers who read this it's just fact if you actually compare USA version to international. Battery on international is 92 ish hours not even close on USA version +1 sorry for my rant. Second best option I went to zero lemon and got a battery charging case that was like 10000 something maH and I never loose battery because I keep case on entire time makes phone weigh 4 pounds tho

Thank you for sharing your thoughts, bud, I think I would agree, this must be reality. An update for me, seems like getting rid of the VPN based Adblocker has helped battery. Last night, I finally got 4 hours SOT, but that was with the VPN app. Trying without it all day, let's see how it goes.
BTW, hands down, the best battery I have ever seen in the US is on the Huawei Mate 9, even on Nougat. The HUGE battery helps, but legitimately, I was getting 7 hours of SOT.

Got the attached SOT after turning off the VPN based ad blocker and using it as needed, rather than on the whole time... Is this closer to normal? ?
I only get 3-4hrs SOT but it is connected to my huawei watch and music is playing when it connects to my bluetooth fm transmitter in my car. I also usually have it plugged in while driving. The best battery life SOT I've seen is on the moto z play. My sister has that phone and she got almost 9hrs SOT. Usually gets at least 7. Someone got over 10.
