But with hwota9 u don't have to worry about renaming any files

None here yet. Are you sure that's not an update for the beta?
EDIT: nevermind, found it in Firmware Finder. Now to figure out how to circumvent the beta and force an upgrade.
EDIT 2: follow this tutorial to the letter and you'll get the update through HiSuite: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=78850439&postcount=1325
But make sure to download the version from the post, I had a newer one that refused to work.
EDIT 3: aw sweet, they fixed the bug with gestures and 3rd party launchers!

I have MHA-L29 Región C636 and nothing worked Im going to wait

As I mentioned in the title, Huawei VNS-L31 doesn't even show that an update to Emui 5.0 is available, and it is. It tells me that your phone is up-to-date. I'm rooted, I know that there are problems with installing updates, but it should still show that an update is available. How to update?

hmmm....do u mean one of those two firmwares for L09 released end of june? C25B501 and C212B120... id guess the latter since B120 is a bit too "low" in number. in any case, that would be so awesome )))

November 2017 confirmed
There is a kernel in one of the brandnew l09 updates on ff that is absolutely awesome. Its says unreleased on the about kernel but it works so great and has support for power killing apps and best is the fingerprint issue is gone . I took it and rooted it for kangb589.
If someone has a flashable zip that converts al to south america 605 cust and oem info i could create a zip flashable via twrp system , it was already pree rooted r w rw for delevopment.
You didn't answer previous few questions... Did you actually flashed Android O? If yes, any screenshots? If not then say so so people stop expecting..... Lol. Not an issue.....
Yes I used dload method about 3 times before successful and to boot into recovery , facrory reset and I had to use emui 5.0 supersu in the recovery 3.1.1.1 and then it booted , developer options worked also. Just broken wifi , I did not get into testing much , there is a link on asia site talking about the release. It also appears that the l09 is being sold in many more regions now , huawei doesn't communicate at all even with sr beta testers. Just update and hope it doesn't brick is huaweis way of thinking I guess.
I installed it on a l29 that was debranded to DL 17 used stock recovery to factory reset and then installed 3.1.1.1. Basically same thing as how we installed the original beta for noughat.

I can see new fw update b172 has any one tried it?
Couldn't we rebrand to AL00 using HWOTA method, then flash the update from FF? That said, what are the major differences with the AL00? I know typically Chinese ROMs are missing some things like Google Play ...
You rebrand to AL00 and flash the oreo update with hwota too. But remember that oreo is still beta. If you wanna root you can use twrp from mate 9 or honor 9.
Another user bricked his device while testing with flashing images with fastboot.
So take care.

That depends on what variant you have, the official Oreo is out for the AL00, C636, and C432 regions, it's not out for the rest of us yet. You can rebrand to a C432 variant and install the European version (C432), or one of the others. Otherwise you'll have to wait on the official version to come out for your region

Btw.. I noticed that.. After upgraded my mate 9 to oreo through OTA... There's something missing.
1: Vulkan api no longer supported.
Performance issues.
1: 3D mark scores with Oreo are worse than Nougat.
2: 2k and 4k downloaded videos and movies, lagging and stuttering while playing.. Especially with 60fps ( idk.. Perhaps 3rd app not optimised for oreo)
And i didn't face any of this problem with Nougat.
Btw.. I love the EMUI 8..

You should have added a model (MHA-L29) in FF. Usually you will find your model in parentheses; MHA-L29 8.0.0.361 (C636), for example. You'd better check firmware access before any updating or downgrading.
Yes, after upgraded to emui8, i found my mate 9 is terribly hang and lots of the apps crashed or spent more than 3mins just for ran it.
The interface is nice but the phone is too slow or taken too much of time to load.

Had the same and was steadily getting worse. Had emails not displaying, apps not opening etc.... Few days ago i wiped data and factory reset and so far its blisteringly fast once more and zero issues. Probably worth doing that for you.

Thanks, I wonder why they changed the naming convention.
My OTA update came in yesterday. Several important (to me) apps stopped working. I need to go back.
I'm not experienced with Huawei methods, so I need some pretty specific instructions to go back on US version. If anyone can point me to that it would be appreciated.
I am tempted to wipe and reload apps, but I have so much setup to do with that, I hate to take that time. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the two main apps I want working and they just won't work.

Always use full-ota update (around 2gb). And there's no update with April Security patch yet. The one with March security patch hasn't rolled out officially too.
The April patch is on FF but neither that or march are approved yet
There also a newer build, b368.
And I don't think it's approved yet.

Received via OTA last Monday (4/16) with my rebranded mate 9. Worked like a charm.
Updated to MHA-L29C636B368 using HWOTA8 without issue.
I think there are some optimizations included in B366.[Optimization] not like in B368 [Security]
B368 is officially out.
Also, there is b371 on firmware finder, which has face unlock feature.

Actually, thats what i said. 368 is already out.
The one that I mention on FF is b371, which has face unlock feature. So you don't need Magisk Module anymore to use face unlock feature.
But, still gonna have to wait until it approved or release via ota.
Btw, mine got 2 patch which explained the big size as i still on b362. Too busy to update.
