Multitasking/RAM - Samsung Galaxy A50 Real Life Review

You're busy and don't have time to wait, which is why you need to stop reading this thread and get back to organizing your Pogs. Rate this thread to express how the Samsung Galaxy A50 performs when multitasking. A higher rating indicates that the Samsung Galaxy A50 keeps many apps in memory so that they don't need to reload, and that when moving between apps, transitions are smooth and performance is excellent.

Free Ram
Hi,
Can anyone tell how much ram is free out of the 4gb model of A50?
thanks in anticipation.

There is no simple answer to your question. It depends how aggressively apps in memory are frozen ( mean how you set the system ) and how many app you launch.
Lets say for me and aggressive killing apps in background I usually have 1 GB free. This corresponds with my 4GB Lenovo P2

Thanks. I understand your point. Am just wondering if I restart the mobile and don't launch any heavy game or app, how much ram is taken by the os and the system apps. For example, in my mi max 2, 2gb is free of the 4gb ram.

1,7 GB free after reboot but take in mind that I have some installed apps starting at boot

I'm using A50 for a week No more scrolling issues and it keeps in memory upto 10 apps

Overall performance is good and Battery performace is awesome it has 4000 mah battery no issues was found till now. You're good to go with that.

Your's is 4gb ram version or 6gb ram one? Am slightly confused as Samsung puts so much of bloatware that ram management takes a hit.

European ROM has not much bloatware and you can disable almost all those obsolete apps. Also you must stay sharp when asked for agreements

True. I would ultimately root it and remove all the bloatware but then it is not short-term plan.

Why to root? You can easily uninstall for current user any system application by adb. For example, I dont need preinstalled Microsoft office programs, so I turned on usb debugging in developer options and run adb:
adb devices
adb shell
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.microsoft.office.powerpoint
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.microsoft.office.excel
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.microsoft.office.word
That is all. Note: if you uninstalled via adb shell, you can restore apps only if factory reset.
You can just disable, using: pm disable-user --user 0 ...
On your choise

I'm having 4GB RAM. 4GB RAM and 6GB RAM you cannot notice that much difference between these two. But if you do more multitasking like you run 10 to 15 apps in background 6GB RAM would do better performance than 4GB version.

Oh. How much ram remains available in your phone?

This is my usually free RAM with desired apps running in the background. Generally i am not complaining but think it's too much eated RAM or i am wrong? (don't playing games).

why my Note only has 800mb total RAM? Shouldn't it be 1024mb/1gb? Is this the same for everyone?

It is advertise as having 1024MB RAM. I feel that is false advertising when it really came with only 800MB. Even rounded up, that is a big different.
I think its the "drivers" that take up the missing 200mb! Hardcore Rom cookers can slim down the drivers giving a few extra MBs! Not any here Yet!
It has 1024mb, but because the kernel and os need to use some, not all of it is available for your apps.

yea, that seems to be the likely explanation. and I'm running 2.3.5 currently, and usually its using 400 to 500 at any given time, with only the browser and maybe one app running. any suggestions as to what can be forced closed or disabled to increase RAM available?
You will need root to get rid of system apps and most pre-installed apps. You can use Titanium Backup to "freeze" any apps and widgets you don't use (also requires a rooted device). As for which apps to freeze, look at what's running on your device with an app manager like SystemPanel Lite, and decide what you don't need from that list.
LOL
Some memory is shared with GPU

Why? What's the point of having lots of RAM if you don't use it? Want to keep some for a rainy day?
Seriously, don't think about it. It will drive you crazy. And do not start using a task manager. I will smack you hard.

Its like that for every device, much of ram goes into graphics and android os other ram that u always see full in that 800 mb are the system apps.
Yup, and i imagine TW is using a lot of it too. For comparison when i run MIUI on my Desire HD (with 768MB RAM) i have around 400MB when i boot it up. With Sense it only got around 160MB left.
But again, don't worry about it! Android handles it.

So is the only benefit of more ram the ability to have more open applications? That seems kind of silly. I use tasker and I still get low memory notifications on my note?

Which is the exact same purpose of more RAM on a desktop... either more applications or heavier applications. Since the latter don't exist for mobiles, it's the former. Wth did you think it was for, making it shiny?
Protip tough: Go Launcher Ex has a "close all running applications" on it's app drawer. Sometimes, depending on how long I've gone without doing this (on my Atrix) it goes from 180 free MB to over 500 free MB (which is the maximum free you get considering the 800 total for Apps).

Um! Multitasking is silly?
Ok, do it the hard way.
So this discussion again... every single android device gets this.
The RAM that you "can't see" is used by system apps, drivers and the kernel.
1gb is plenty even with some RAM used already. By default Android never closes apps but instead keeps them open in the background thus "eating" RAM to enable faster multitasking. Rarely will you face a situation when the used memory gets too low, and in most cases Android takes care of that by shutting down less important and unused apps itself. If you for some reason have a fetish to see all the RAM unused and available, then you either:
a) Are a PC gamer (Android doesn't have games heavy enough to eat up tons of memory)
or
b) You don't understand how Android works.
Everyone should understand the one main principle of android:
unused RAM is wasted RAM. There is no point having 1gb, 2gb or 16gb of RAM if it isn't used. And like someone earlier said, the two uses for RAM in Android devices are either multiple applications or heavy applications. There are no heavy enough apps to eat 1gb of RAM, so the amount of applications is what affects the available memory. If you close every app from any task manager etc. then you are in principle destroying the multitasking abilities of Android.
And if you want to shut down apps that eat battery or stop the phone from going to sleep, then I strongly suggest uninstalling those apps instead. Apps that do this when they aren't active are badly coded and should not be used.
The problem with uninstalling those apps is that, sometimes, they're quite unique in function, being unreplaceable. GDocs is an example of a battery hog, and it's substitutes are office applications that cost well over 10US$ and not everyone needs.
But yes, the OS should take care ofmost memory managing issues.

How much is your ram usage under normal circumstances? Please vote.

I today i got my galaxy note 2 i think i phone is using much romes compare 2 normal it is using 75 % ramJust curious as to how much ram is free for most people while idle. Use Android System Info, Widgetsoid, or something similar to observe ram after the device has been idle throughout the day. I'm not interested in people's attempts to maximize this number; I just want to know what it is, on average, without the use of task killers .

My phone's been on today after fresh 100% charge for several hours, screen on for about 45 mins.
Am continually surprised by people' concern over RAM usage, to the point of creating thread about it. I know the basics of Android mem usage and using available RAM is desirable for smooth operation of your phone.
A few posts above mine someone highlighted the message confirming such. Take it to heart, I suggest if ur phone used 85% and above regularly THEN be worried. Otherwise ignore it and enjoy.
Maybe off topic, but how do we know the percentage, we have to calculate it? And what does "how much ram" mean? FREE RAM, USED RAM? You should have formulated your question better

and no need to calculate % just use clean master to clean ram and junk files. and also find out how much ram usage:good:
With Hurricane 8.0 the usage of RAM amount at about 1.0 gb when there aren't opened apps.. while when i open some apps it goes to 1.3 - 1.4 gb and i have about 250-300 mb of free RAM...

make free RAM space

What is the best way to make free RAM space. Looks 2/2.77GB is used for me using/running only Lollipop. Does the OS using that all? Thinking to clear all bloatwares if somebody could tell me what is all safe to clear. Thanks
Free RAM is wasted RAM...
Do you have any problems with multitasking, app reloading etc.? If not, let Android take care of the usage and ignore the RAM bar.
I am coming from the S3 with 1GB RAM, where 500Mb were constantly in use. Frequent app reloads included.
Now that I have the Note 4, I can switch as much as I want without reloads. I'm loving it! My RAM is currently 2.4/2.7 GB in use, but who cares

Note 4 is pretty awful at multitasking, although it works, because there is no RAM, free or not, to multitask with.
You need free Ram so that when you load a new app, an old one isn't destroyed.
Wish people wouldn't regurgitate silly quotes that aren't true.

Go to application manager / running .
Find apps which you dont use but they running in background (messengers, music players some other) and shut them down manually. Some will restart but some won't. Find offensive apps and check if you can turn them off - not all of them can be turned off in application manager. That can be achieved on not rooted device. If you rooted you can use many applications to freeze and prevent offensive apps from automatic start

Hi folks!
pretty new to the forum and for now I am not knowing much about the android. But here got some basic question that hinders my daily use of my cellphone:
The device I am using is samsung Galaxy S 5, and the model is G9008v, for those you know is the version with the China Mobile carrier.
SO, the ram is claimed to be 2GB, right?
bUT WHEN I am using it, the available ram is only about the 300mbs....
Here I've attached the ram status so that I could get some help. As you could see here only THREE programs ar erunning but the total ram is 1.6GB and there are 1.3 GB taken, For no use?

2 GB ram is not enough, android system itself eats more than 1 GB sometimes
so the solution i use is
If u want more ram, then use XtreStoLite 2.2 rom, which is extremely lightweight, i managed to free up ram upto 1.2 GB (Wow), tweaking like Freezeing, greenify etc. now Free Ram is ALWAYS more than .90GB when not using any app, even after hours of use
only downside is that, its 5.0 lollipop not 5.1
but for me Multi tasking is more important to me than android version
Good Luck

Oneplus set the
fw.bg.apps to 60 (32 previously)
So,you will have the same amount of max apps in memory (OP3,5,6,7)
All services counted.
Gotta disable few Oneplus app like oem log etc to get the most out of your Multitasking experience.
If not, editing that build prop line will get the job done.

This is called "ro.vendor.qti.sys.fw.bg_apps_limit" in PIE and this is set to 60. Frankly, just setting this to 60 doesn't make much difference to multitasking as I was experiencing pretty hideous multitasking with my OP6T and tried everything including build.prop edit.
In OP7 pro however, multitasking has been excellent so far. Apps keep in memory for a long time and do not reload. I am using 8 Gig version.
My ram management is terrible on the 1+7pro 6GB ram model. I can't even keep more than 6-7 regular apps open without app refresh. I know it's 'only' 6GB but than I think ... Come on it's 6GB ram this is ridiculous.

Same for me, 3 or 4 apps can't stay in the memory.
My Note 8 keeps 8-10 apps in the memory and it has 6GB RAM too.
Very poor RAM management on the 7 Pro.

I found a solution! I disabled adaptive battery, disabled ram boost and rebooted the phone. Now the ram management is much much better!
Seems to be aggressive power management which closes the apps. I also read it's a problem with pie in general.
Let me know if it helps!

Get the 8 Gb. It will suit all your needs. I'm using the 8/256 and I'm more than satisfied. I also don't pay games on my phone.
Cheers
Hello,
Multi-task is really good for me.
No problem with me on the 8gb with that said adjustment of turning off adaptive battery which I learned from my pixel 4gb ram days
Pretty much using this much ram all the time. Never less than 5gb. Even when I close all recent apps. Not sure why this phone uses so much ram. Anybody else with 6gb or 8 want to download CCleaner and post their ram right after recent app close?

Are you using "Normal clear"or "Deep clear" in Settings->System->Recent app management?
Also disable "RAM Boost" and use "Deep clear" and see if there's any change

I Have to try disable the ram booster. Sounds stupid to clear apps from ram. My use rarely goes above 4,2gb so the ram management of my 8gb 7 pro is horrible. Why the phone dont just put the apps to deep sleep and keep them in ram is beyond me.

Why do you even wanna clear the ram? Could just be cache and gets cleaned when something active needs ram.
8 gigs are fine. Without clearing the ram
I usually.never get above 3.5 or 4, but i run a lot of apps at that moment...
I also have the ram booster and adaptive battery off, but besides that i installed the EX Kernel and debloated my system using tomatot's script...
