So I'm trying the Magisk root mode instead of SuperSU. This is my first time messing with Magisk.
I flashed the lastest OOS version and flashed the Magisk zip.
I went to the dowload modules section and installed a bunch of modules without rebooting immediatly. After all installed I rebooted and to my surprise, the phone didn't boot. It stays in the 1+ logo forever.
What have I done wrong? Installed wrong modules? Should I reboot after each module installed?
I flashed the ROM back, wiped cache and dalvik and flashed Magisk again and still the phone isn't booting..
EDIT: Flashed the ROM again without Magisk or SuperSU and it booted, but somehow I lost the TWRP recovery!
Great now it will wipe my phone to install the TWRP recovery again..
These are my favorites so far, I am so happy with them

It won't wipe your phone if you simply run it in fastboot and flash the TWRP recovery. The only reason it wipes the first time is because you had to do an oem unlock, which is already done now. The only time you will have to wipe your whole phone from now on is if you decrypt, and with ROMs starting to work with encryption, that shouldn't need to be done.
For the boot loop, my guess is a bad module.
To get the phone working again, you did the correct thing in flashing the stock zip without Magisk. The only thing you needed to do right after that was flash TWRP recovery image again through TWRP to overwrite the stock recovery. Then you would boot up, uninstall the modules, and reflash Magisk.
The only Magisk module I use is the stock Google Dialer/Contacts mod.

Wow. Didn't knew there are so many modules just for OP5. Guess it's time to root.
Does using doze for Google play services causes any notification issues? Delay etc.

thank you for your explanation. I managed to install the TWRP recovery again. what's happening now is I flash the ROM and it boots. I flash Magisk and it doesn't boot. I flash the ROM again and then SuperSU and it works. What I think is happening now is when I flash Magisk it might load the modules that don't work and it won't boot. Is there a way to know if the modules are installed in the background?
What I did now was flash the Magisk uninstaller and flashed the SuperSU and it's working.

Substratum is your answer to that question. I haven't tried any full themes since our recovery is still a working mess it seems, so I'm worried about backups. But the Ozone Substratum module works well. I just made my clock centered with small date and am/pm. Persists through dirty flashes too.

I haven't had to mess around with uninstalling Magisk modules, but I assume the method to uninstall a module would be to
Flash system zip
Flash TWRP recovery
Boot into phone
Run the Magisk manager app without actually having Magisk installed
Uninstall or disable the modules
Then install Magisk

Keep in mind that everytime you update your phone it will also install stock recovery. So you'll need to re-install twrp after every oos update.
I have no module installed but I use other apps that needs root.

So for the YouTube no ads, which one did you use, generic or Vance or black Vance?
Aldo for the arise module, do you have a link? I can't find it searching. Thanks.
i am using black version, so far soo good
Arise comes with magisk module in latest version from here https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=176171 but it is little complicated to install. but you can follow here for instuctions http://www.droidviews.com/install-arise-magnum-opus-sound-mod-android/
I've flashed Magisk, but because I can't get Xposed to work, I'd like to remove Magisk and install SuperSU, but I don't know how. I tried to flash the uninstaller via TWRP and it says everything is fine, but after rebooting it just stays installed. If I try to flash SuperSU anyway I get stuck on boot. I have to flash stock boot.img via TWRP and then Magisk magically reappears. I tried using MiFlash but it refuses to do anything. It says no permission.
One possible solution, I guess, would be to flash stock ROM via TWRP. Can this be done? Any other ideas? Or am I just stuck with Magisk until a new version is available?

Magisk is pretty much "useless" for now. Because it is based on system-less root, and cannot be updated (because still in testing phase! Newer Xposed module from Magisk requires latest Magisk root binary, which is pretty out of option atm as we can't update to the latest binary). The only solution if you want to have proper root access is:
1. Head over to Xiaomi MIUI website and download the full stock ROM again, and then flash it via fastboot (choose flash_all_except_storage.bat if you want to preserve your data).
2. Once flashed, reboot back to bootloader and unlock it.
3. While still in bootloader flash the correct CF-Auto root boot image for your ROM (contains SuperSU 2.82 binary, https://desktop.firmware.mobi/device:1748)
4. Wait patiently and it will automatically reboot. Install SuperSU from Play Store if you want root management app.
5. If you need Xposed, download the Xposed apk from XDA and then install it normally (not via recovery).
6. ??? Profit
*DO NOT INSTALL permanent TWRP as it will cause your phone stuck in boot loop.
@soralz
Thanks for your help, but no luck. I understand what I'm supposed to do, but I can't get MiFlash to work. When I try to flash stock image I get a "Permission Denied" error. (I have unlocked my bootloader successfully). I tried flashing modified stock image from here But then I couldn't boot. My only solution is to flash stock boot.img via TWRP and I can boot, but I stay stuck with Magisk.
So far, the only options I can think of is to wait for a recovery-flashable ROM, a new software update or a new version of Magisk.

You couldn't boot, are you using permanent TWRP?
Have you tried download the Full ROM from here and run this (as attachment)?
http://en.miui.com/download-333.html
Btw, place the folder under 1 directory only eg: as attachment. (I tried in multiple directory eg: "D:\Phones\ROM\Stock ROM", it just wouldn't flash)
@soralz
OMG!!! I can't believe it. MiFlash refused to let me flash because I tried to do that from the wrong location. Weird??!!
Good. I’ve managed to follow your instructions and success!! Just a minor note, I couldn't flash the modified boot.img directly via fastboot, it still won't let me. But I just booted TWRP (without flashing) and then flashed it from there. Again, THANK YOU!
BTW, yes, I had flashed permanent TWRP and then unsuccessfully tried to remove it.

Oh you manage to fix that? Good for you then. And yes you cannot have permanent TWRP and SuperSU at the same time. The CF-auto root for me I just click root.bat and done. btw side note, you will lose root after each update, besure to check out the new patched boot image. I m sure in the future we will have automated process, don't need to re-root manually after each update
Simple quick guide to rooting Android p

After like 2 minutes hold volume down and power to reboot to bootloader
Reboot. I personally turn off then manually turn device back on by holding power button.
When device starts back up install apk as it won't show after flashing zip.

Too late , topjohnwu released magisk v16.1 here https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/beta-magisk-v13-0-0980cb6-t3618589 Magisk manager isn't flashing for some reason so you have to go into the actual file path inside the zip. /common/magisk.apk and install it manually. The module devs need to update their code, but mine should still work.
Just noticed well If u need apk still it's in my drive along with zip
How do access your drive? I tried to go the Magisk route and it hung on the Google boot screen with the loading bar and eventually rebooted itself

then flashed latest magisk 1610

I did the same thing. I couldn't get it to boot back to my phone but I could boot back into TWRP. So I just wiped then restored a backup I had. Try that. Or worse case scenario just boot to bootloader and flash the factory.img again. That should over write anything you have on there now and allow you to boot successfully.

are we fastboot flashing twrp after the beta OTA, or should that custom recovery still be intact?
loading magisk using the manager, or SU, or what have you?
finally, list of the files i should have on hand if things go wrong? have the may image if i need to re load that. ill try to find the P-DP2 image available as well, but I'm not sure of all the root files I'll need.

Also waiting for this. Just searched for it but it seems the full image files are not online yet. And I don't know if twrp or the ability to root will still be there if I just uninstall magisk via the uninstaller zip in twrp, and then install the OTA from today?
EDIT:
fastboot the full dp2 image
do set-up process (don't set a PIN)
fastboot twrp 3.2.1.2 img
install twrp 3.2.1.2 zip
reboot recovery
install magisk 16.4 (16.0 won't work)
done
Tested with adaway and it works fine. I expected it to be harder to be honest but I'll take it.

After updating to the latest software I found that with the exception of the first time I tried it which weirdly enough worked, I can't for the life of me successfully boot after rooting.
I rooted once and had to uninstall magisk because of a conflicting module but now no matter what I try I always get stuck on essential's splash screen.
Does anyone else have this problem? If I flash the stock boot image I can boot just fine.
have you try flashing update, then boot image then magisk consecutively before any reboot? I'm out of the country at the moment w/o access to my PC, and I can't even risk a soft brick while traveling.
Are you getting as far as installing magisk again? cause from what you've written it sounds like it is working but the module that caused the original issue is still there. you can remove magisk by flashing the stock boot image but the magisk image with all installed modules is still there.
If that is the case then there are a few tool out there to mount the magisk image and remove the module.
I tried a few when I had a similar issue and the only one that worked was this one.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/module-tool-magisk-manager-recovery-mode-t3693165
what you would need to do is flash twrp. boot into recovery. (decryption never works for me so would recomend either sideload or adb push to /data/media)
flash the stock boot image back.
then reinstall magisk
flash the magisk recovery manager
once loaded go to the advanced section of twrp select terminal and type mm and follow the on screen instruction to remove the afflicted module then reboot and you should be sorted.
Although that being said if that isn't the issue you're having then can you explain how far you get with trying to reinstall and whats going wrong.

Open Magisk Github, and try to find a solution in the Magisk Troubleshooting
You say you "updated Magisk". Since you didn't describe how, supposidely you did by flashing Magisk through TWRP or by Direct method from Magisk app/mngr
Unfortunately, those two ways are most risky. If anything goes wrong (if you don't have TWRP backup) you cannot go back to the previous working configuration
It takes just few minutes more to extract and patch the boot.img and to flash it. If anything goes wrong, you flash the original unpatched boot.img or boot.img that was patched by your older Magisk and you are back in business.
To fix the bootlop now, it will take more than few extra minutes for extracting, patching and flashing the image every time when installing and updating Magisk

You should better have updated Magisk by patching the boot.img, then flashing (from Fastboot or TWRP) - in that case, if you have bootloop you simply flash back your previously patched img that used to work
I cannot know what went wrong. Maybe, there is a module that is no more compatible and causing the bootlop:
- Reboot to TWRP, Advanced, File Manager and navigate to /data/adb/modules
Each folder corresponds to one module.
Add an empty file named: disable (exactly as that) to each folder/module (or only to those modules you suspect they might be causing the bootloop).
Once you disabled the critical module, you can boot to system and from Magisk app further manage your modules.
Or, from TWRP flash to Boot the original boot.img extracted from your OTA zip file.
When you reboot to system, there will be no Magisk but next time you install Magisk it will find and activate old modules, probably causing again the bootloop
Or, download Magisk apk, rename to uninstall.zip and flash from TWRP to fully uninstall Magisk (and all its modules, everything)
Recommending first method, but you see the other two options as well

I don't use discord and I have work and private life
I gave you directions that if you knew just basic things about flashing and File mngr in TWRP, about using Magisk, etc, would be nite than enough to follow directions
Most annoying users are those who install'nuclear bomb' like Magisk, do updates, etc, but never spent their time to learn (when things work and it's easier) how to use, read the Instructions (available by one click to Github from Magisk app), etc, and then when (sooner or later) get a brick, cry for somebody to guide them to click here, there, etc.
You can still use PC and google and fill the gaps from my instructions to what/how you must click here and there
Sorry to be brutal but I really don't have time

Most annoying users are those who install'nuclear bomb' like Magisk, do updates, etc, but never spent their time to learn (when things work and it's easier) how to use, read the Instructions (available by one click to Github from Magisk app), etc, and then when (sooner or later) get a brick, cry for somebody to guide them to click here, there, etc.
You can still use PC and google and fill the gaps from my instructions to what/how you must click here and there
Sorry to be brutal but I really don't have time

Its not that i didnt look up on youtube about flashing in revovery mode. When i did search for more information i get those videos of people in india talking their own language. Np if you dont have time and on other topic someone said that they wint use discord because it wont be public for someone else with the same problem but i was gonna make photos with the steps i did for fixing it. The thing is i cant find the uninstall. File or the older version of twrp. Skip i wont takr your time good luck with your private life
And about the installing nuclear bomb thing... magisk has the direct install option which is the nuclear bomb button (sometimes) the reason why my phone got into bootloop is a module which isnt working anymore its called energized its for blocking ads. I saw that it didnt work... before it worked fine i thought maybe i need to update magisk but thats why it went into the bootloop. I managed to delete the module through twrp mode and here this is for you

You don't need to delete modules (some of them, like V4A might be complicated to install again) - just disable them through still the working Magisk app before you go for updating
Or patch and flash the image instead of taking Direct install. There might be other reasons to cause bootloop, not just incompatible modules.
If it bootloops when you flash the newly patched img, just flash your old img, previously patched by the older Magisk version, that used to work for you
As simple as that - and no bootloops, no emergency help needed, etc

I am surei have the older backup in my internal storage of my phone but i dont know from where to recover that and on the internet they say everything and i am scared to make it worse than it is. I didnt use the phone for a long time because my lcd got a short circuit and i replacet it. On internet they say this bootloop problem can occure when you skip some updates some say to install a program on pc then go in download mode and fix with the program but i unpluggrd my pc and tv because me and they got too old for eachother.
Now i am just trying different things what i see on youtube and twrp says this: check picture.
