Then because people like you samsung gets out with everything, always accepting their bull.****, i had a samsung phone since s4 , on every android build some s.h.i.t thing happened.

And another thing why cant they fix their choppy animations? Getting really tired by every year, we pay big bucks for these phones.

You're right, they might have made it gray to save display from any burn-ins like they did by removing black navigation bar after few months of s8 release. The thing is neither s9 or s10 can be burn-in proof becouse all of them use an OLED displays. This move by Samsung definitely doesn't make much sense. By the way, you won't call it "black mode" just becouse the background is completely black, that's why it's called Dark mode

stop whining, switch back to oreo and install substratum. we dont care that one ui doesnt satisfy your "dark mode" needs.

My dark mode on s8 used to be jet black everywhere. But suddenly today it turned dark greyish and can't figure out for the life of me how did this happen

this is why the colours were changed

i'm looking through the samsung.git (the kernel source) in the android source, and came across some very interesting commits from Arve Hjønnevåg on this page
http://android.git.kernel.org/?p=kernel/samsung.git;a=shortlog;pg=1
click on the commit link for the details
they point out that the colours were actually wrong, and have now been reset. so, actually, all's good - so stop whining!
personally, i prefer the new colours!
looking through the commit logs is actually really interesting. a really annoying bug in googles where, if you pressed flash, it would turn itself off was fixed here: http://android.git.kernel.org/?p=ke...it;h=65799b8cfd15cb61201a0492d8d7799136c4d440
and the explanation is informative too!
What was the point of "fixing" the colors? It's not a bug.
The colors may have been "wrong" before 2.3.3 but that's how I saw it in the store and that's what it looked like when I bought it. If I saw it at the store with the 2.3.3 colors there's a good chance I would have purchased a different phone.
I prefer the "fixed" colors as well. I mean, would you buy a TV or monitor with inaccurate color representation?

Maybe, if I liked the way it looked. That's my whole point, I liked the way it looked when I bought it, and that's what I paid for. Bait and switch.
Colors were **** since 2.3.3 dont care what they say I have my own 2 eyes and lol that this "problem" was noticed so late into android
They should at least give the option to change them back threw the settings

I sure as hell wouldn't want to buy a TV with fixed colors and settings
If you want to get technical most mainstream LCD TV and PC monitors are TN panel and they produce inaccurate colors anyways no matter what settings oyu put them on compared to lets say an IPS which have much more accurate natural colors

things that are generally 'wrong' in software are bugs. your logic is wrong. let's face it, we didn't buy the phone for pretty colours.
and it's not a bug in android, it was a bug in the samsung crespo (nexus s) firmware that's been fixed. only users of the nexus s will see the colour changes. the samsung.git is the boot kernel code.

So are the colors now similar to the Epic or "washed out" as a couple of people have noticed.
I am going to store today to consider change from Epic. I love my phone, dont care as much about GB since it is rooted and rommed to 1.3, however
what I want is the size.
Just not sure about using my upgrade just for size since I know there will be newer, flashier things out, which I also don't know that I really need . .
Such a nice choice to have . .
Any other pros/cons

The argument just stems from the fact that the original colours on the Nexus S were over-saturated and were not 'correct' by any definition of valid colour space. Those that accept that there is a 'correct' colour space are generally happy with the change, and so don't consider the colours washed out.
Those that prefer the incorrect colours and over-saturation consider the colours to now be washed out.
As for pros and cons of the Nexus S, check out the many other threads giving detailed reviews or 'compare and contrast' opinion pieces.
For me the biggest seller to getting a Nexus S was the fact that updates come straight from Google (previously was on Milestone and Motorola are crap at providing timely updates), closely followed by the speed and responsiveness of the phone in general.

lol what do you think most people do before they buy a TV
you look the your screen 99% of the time you use the phone it plays a huge part in hardware decision for allot even its its colors
like someone said earlier its called bait and switch
and whats worst with this is that they are fixed with the exception of kernel with voodoo
Also i never seen once person complain before about the colors Google used prior to the update
BUT now that this "problem" was fixed i see tons of people complaining including me and then other just lay back and except it becasue Google said it was a good choice
also try owning a phone prior to this with OLED like i did with my nexus one and vibrant...even WP7 has accurate colors for and OLED panel.
Google is just made a stupid decision.
FYI im huge into hardware ill bet im one of the top enthusiast when it comes to this stuff ...mainly PC hardware

apples and oranges.
still, google and samsung even give you the complete source code for your phone, so, you can:
a) continue to whine and have it fall on deaf ears.
b) buckle up and modify the source code to your heart's content and hell, maybe even fix other problems.
c) use an existing solution.
whatever you choose, no one really cares, you're either happy, or if not, make the change.
so, start today.
make the change
'cause i'm standing with the... uh... oh.
not apples and oranges since they are FIXED on the nexus S

Got a new SGS2 and noticed a few things

Hi guys,
I just sold my "old" SGS2 which I bought on the second or third week of launch of the international version and got a new one. Here are some of the things that I've noticed:
1. Red spot on white background picture while using the camera is GONE. I thought this was a software problem before but I guess it must have been hardware related. Flashed two different roms now including the stock one and still no red spot.
2. Yellow stain on the lower portion of the notification bar is gone. Color is even with no hint of the yellow stain that plagued earlier versions of the unit.
3. Color of the screen is noticeably darker. You wont be able to notice this most of the time but on apps like dialer one wherein the default background color is gray, you can really see a huge difference. Darker but not less brighter, I don't know how to describe it but you can really tell the difference.
4. Capacitive button lights are much dimmer. I tried them on different kernels and roms and they're still dimmer. Not a dealbreaker though.
Overall I am very pleased that Samsung quietly addressed these manufacturing issues
*edit* actually I'm not sure if I was just lucky or they really fixed it
Concerning the screen, you just got lucky. The yellow tint is still here on new batches. One thing I noticed however, is that the two new units I used, had no processor usage interference when headphones were used. Did they add proper shielding or was I lucky as well?
Actually I think I spoke a little too soon. Apparently the white's and the grays are my screen are a lil darker than usual and a little to the shade of purple. Some people have it as well. My white's are not as white as before but when i turn the brightness up it turns into a pretty good shade of white. But my grays are definitely more purple.
Oh well
Every sgs2 is unique, i like to think (so i don't get annoyed by it) that every sgs2 is a piece of hand-made craftsmanship.
Noticed the darker colours on my friends new SGS2 also. .

J7 Pro AOD problem

Hi everybody. Recently I bought a J7 pro for several reasons, one of which was Always on Display, a.k.a AOD. However from the first night I used it as a night clock I could apparently see that the background of the clock and notifications is not black and has a faint light. The funny part is that the preview of AOD is fine with all the black pixels off, but when you actually use it, all the pixels are on. I asked several J730F owners and they had the same problem, however my device is J730G. Please test and report. Just remember the environment must be completely dark.

Hey
I have the same problem
I have a j730f/D's
It's really frustrating and I guess it drains the battery a lot
I also noticed the that the preview of the aod is perfect on all brightness levels
Maybe thats because the display panel uses different settings when real aod is on ( like udervoltage and lower refresh rate things like this but I am not an expert )
Also visible on 3rd party apps from the PlayStore
I guess Samsung is using some hardware tweaks there to optimise battery life
What I also noticed is when the real aod is set to full brightness because of the sunlight the screen really gets black ( you can try this with a flashlight or so )
But on the lowest brightness the screen gets grey .
Would love to know if this is just software related or hardware
Because if it is hardware I give it a try and send it back

That's exactly my situation as well. On low brightness the screen is unbearably gray, otherwise it seems to be completely black. I guess you can try sending it back, unfortunately I don't have that option.
3rd party apps sucks because they can't use this special display mode Samsung uses
Maybe I will send it back
But I am not sure about that I wanted to wait until an update is coming, maybe it's software related so they can fix it .
I also send an email to Samsung but I saw your post on the Samsung forum so I don't expect too much
With how many ppl did you talk about that problem that have the j730f ? I mean it doesn't make sense to send it back and get a new one if it is a problem for every device
I got the same issue on my J730G/DS. When on low brightness aod, i can notice the whole screen lighting up a little bit. But on high brightness it is completely black. I think all j7 pro have this issue. At least we could try to send it back to samsung and see if they will fix or even do something about this issue.

I found several threads out there talking about this problem. Generally the problem was with S7 and other Samsung flagship devices. In all the circumstances there, the problem only was fixed by changing the AMOLED panel. However here in J7 pro it seems that when the screen is well lit, the black is truly black and when the ambient sensor reduces the light the problem shows its ugly face. This problem was not mentioned anywhere in those threads I mentioned.

I don't wanna waste any more money on my phone. So yeah let see what will Samsung do. It's impossible that this is the AMOLED panel fault. Looks like the version of our AOD is a bit old. Try compare it with the A 2017 Nougat AOD.

Although I hope so and believe that j7 problem is different from previous problems seen on other faulty aods, but the way aod works is different from the way other aod apps work.
Hey guys
I've borrowed my friend's J7 Pro to see if she had this AOD problem. After I bring it to a very dark place, the AOD works like it should (No grayish AOD background). Guess it's a hardware problem. I will try to send it back to Samsung if I have time.

The AOD uses the ambient light sensor to decide what brightness should be used ( I think AOD only recognize Dark and Bright situation, just like most of the proximity sensors )
So because it's dark, the screen also adjust itself to dark situation. No grayish background is seen. I compare mine with her side by side and I can see the difference.
Another thing to proof that this is a hardware problem is that when you put your finger on the fingerprint sensor and it unlocks, between the unlocking process, you can see the screen flicker before it unlocks the phone. Same as when you boot up the phone. Right after when you press the power button and it vibrate, you can see a flicker before "Samsung Galaxy J7 Pro" is shown.

I will find some time to send it back to Samsung. The distance from My home to the nearest Samsung Service Center is very far, took me about half an hour with usual traffic. But they are usually traffic jammed, so I predict an hour trip to the SSC. Not an easy job though I'm very busy all day.

Black Crush S10 Plus ?

I bought a galaxy S10 Plus recently and I already noticed the same problem of display as my old galaxy s9 plus, the dark parts are pixelated, the famous black crush, I am well stressed, I sold my s9 plus and bought the s10 plus only because of this problem, is there any way to resolve this without application? the screen balance spoils the image more than it improves.

I'm running 11.0.5 global (waiting for miui 12) and everything is working smootly (a part some heating problems and battery drain).
Yesterday I noticed a BIG strange spot on the right side of the display only when I have a black/dark theme (for example on Telegram) and when brightness/light around the phone is low.
I tried to googled it but I didn't find anything useful and still don't understand if it's software or hardware. I just get that is a common issue of AMOLED screen but in 2020 I don't get how this is not fixable lol.
Any suggest?
Thanks in the advance and I wish you a happy day!
Nope, every AMOLED is like that. Tested even on the S10 plus. No worries

So there aren't any solutions? :/ It's just luck and time?
Gonna have to provide a picture (if it shows) to see what you are trying to describe bro.
