J510FN Apparently has KNOX tripped? - Samsung Galaxy J5 Questions & Answers

A few years ago, I've purchased a Samsung Galaxy J5 (2016) (Not Refurbished) device from a reseller running 6.0.1 marshmellow, the packaging was alright and the entrie thing has always looked completely official to me, status is claimed to be official and nothing seems out of the ordinary- other than that I absolutely cannot manage to update the device, instead I get Proccessing Failed and SmartSwitch claims it has the latest firmware, but after some tiny research about it I figured out there was litereally no firmware out there matching both the model and the CSC, but instead there were firmwares with the same CSC for the J510F model.
Today, I decided to go back into attempting to figure out what was wrong and I went to check my warranty status on download mode, and apparently it's at 0x1 (4). I've never attempted to root the device or tampered with it since I've purchased it, so I can't understand how and why it's tripped.
So now I realized that if KNOX is infact tripped, this whole CSC, model and no updates thing makes a bit of sense.
Under my assumption, I believe it uses stock samsung firmware from another region, but had it's CSC modified. Is there any way I can do the same in order to update my device while keeping all my data and apps to the Nougat update samsung has rolled out to other SM-J510FN CSCs?
Thanks.

Flashing official firmware from other regions

Hi all,
I got my N9005 unit from the UAE, and brought it home here in the Philippines. Since it's very frustrating to realize that the UAE updates have been known to be notoriously delayed, I am considering flashing firmware from other regions, more specifically the ones for the Philippines.
This led me to certain questions:
1. Will it trip Knox, and therefore my warranty?
2. Will I still be able to get future updates via OTA?
any input will be greatly appreciated.
.
Sent from my N9005
1. You don't even mention what firmware you are on and you ask about Knox. Talk less about where you bought but more about what you want. Must likely the answer is YES YES YES.
2.YES YES YES
1- You can flash Official Firmware from other Regions it WONT trip Knox.Via odin PC
2- Yes you get future updates

Verify Original Samsung ROM

Dear all,
I own a Samsung Galaxy A3 (2016) with the following informations
CSC A310FB2X2APD2
Baseband A310FXXU2APC5
Current software A310FXXU2APDA
The phone was provided with a car type Seat Leon Connect which supports Android Auto. I live in Germany. As you might recognize, the CSC code B2X is a bit uncommon, but related to the "Seat edition" of the phone.
Now I have the problem that the phone is on a quite old software version (Android 5.1.1 with Security Updates of May 2016) and the phone does not find updates via OTA or Smart Switch. Several calls to the provider (Seat) and Samsung revealed that there is confusion how and when the last updates that were published for the A3 (2016) series will arrive for that specific model. As the phone provided has a Spanish country code, I was finally forwarded to Samsung Spain who told me I should simply search for updates. Which I obviously did.
As Samsung Germany told me that a spanish model would only do OTA updates when having a spanish IP, I even used a spanish proxy to look for updates, but without success.
I tried to change my CSC to the german DBT using the *#272# command, but it just tells me that the command did not succeed. There is an app called "Phone *INFO* Samsung" that tells me my CSC is E01 where E01, E02, E03, E04 and E04 are available in the firmware. This is confusing since this "E0x" is no known CSC country/provider code. So no way to simply switch the phone to DBT and german software updates.
I have the feeling, I will never be able to receive official updates...
So I have a couple of questions:
I'm coming from a Windows Mobile 10 phone where updates came nearly on a monthly base. Plus, the platform was never subject to hacking attacks due to only few devices. How critical is it to stay with the old software from a security point of view? Note, I only download software from the Play Store, but I am surfing the web a lot.
Is it true that a spanish IP is required for OTA updates or Smart Switch to find the update for the spanish phone?
As it is likely that I won't get offcial updates, I am willing to flash the german DBT firmware of December 2016 (say, from updato.com) using ODIN. Will I be able to receive OTA or Smart Switch updates in the future based on that, and therefore stay on a regular update path? I read that CSC and/or product code may be an issue.
Is there a way to ensure that the firmware I download from updato.com is really the official firmware? I am very sceptical about security and modified ROMs as I use the phone for business purposes. I informed myself a bit on the KNOX software installed on Samsung phones. Is it right that KNOX is able to check the originality of the firmware being flashed and therefore should increase the "Warranty void" counter in case the firmware is NOT original? Is there another way to check originality in advance before flashing?
Will I have to care for changing CSC and/or product code after flashing?
Most important: Say, I do the flashing to DBT firmware and for some reason, I need the original firmware back. Is there a way to return to the original Seat firmware? As it is available nowhere for download, I would have to use Smart Switch. Will I be able to connect the phone and simply put it to factory state (including the CSC code)?
Sorry for this long list and possibly dumb questions, but I am really unsure how to proceed.
Thanks for helping!
Tobias

Hi tys0n,
yes, it is exactly the same version.
Here's the firmware. http://updato.com/firmware-archive-select-model?record=528B238FC03811E6B04AFA163EE8F90B
NOTE: U2 (marked in red) is the binary number. Bootloader should also be U2.
Since this seems to be a very specific firmware I just want to give a little varning.
Don't update to U3 if you ever plan to flash back to any U2 firmware (including this one).
Updated bootloader to U3 won't allow downgrade of itself to U2, and old modems won't work with updated bootloader.
There's a good chance that you'll end up with no signal or lost imei if you try to downgrade from U3 to U2.

Hello,
I'm also exactly on the same situation... does anyone found a solution to upgrade to latest Android version / way to proceed ?
Thanks
Update: I finally managed to flash my Rom with a U3 firmware (Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 FR), see phonandroid.com and the tuto for installing a310fxxu3bqc2-xef on a Galaxy-a3-sm-a310f

Looking for comprehensive stock firmware list for S7Edge

Hey all. I am in the US but bought international S7Edge when it came out. I dont know what firmware it had I think it was some italian one maybe. Then i rooted and started using custom roms. Then when nougat officially came out for S7Edge i un-rooted and went back to 100% stock using i think Vodafone 7.0 firmware. I think because i rooted i have a negative test response from Knox which i think stops me from getting OTA updates. It shows in software info that my OS version has security patch only from January 2017 so I am clearly not on latest firmware even though OTA says I am on latest.
Is there a site with a database of all firmwares out for the S7Edge international variant So i can find the latest and flash it to my phone since OTA wont get the latest.
samsmobile has the latest.
Yoiu still have an issue with your kernal as phone still thinks you have custom rom. Tripped knox on stock firmware will not stop OTA from downloading.

OTA updates after flashing Oreo via Odin

I have some questions if you have any ideas please :
I want to flash the last oreo update via odin, Would this manipulation trip my knox ?
How can i keep my parameters and app with odin ?
Would the phone get OTAs after the upgrade ?
Is there any way to get back ota updates capability if it is region related or smthng ?
Thank you guys !
I want to flash the last oreo update via odin, Would this manipulation trip my knox ? Never. Just flash the ROM following the steps on this thread (https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/how-to/guide-flash-oreo-g950fxxu1crb7-using-t3755862). Its 100% secure (MODEL G950F).
How can i keep my parameters and app with odin ? Flashing "HOME CSC OXM". (The Other file, "CSC OXM" will wipe your data)
Would the phone get OTAs after the upgrade ? Yes
Is there any way to get back ota updates capability if it is region related or smthng ? The Roms are global, the sim determines your region, not the rom. Enjoy!

It's official - just leaked; why would Knox even care?
The only reason you won't get OTAs is because it's leaked, and there are generally no updates aimed at leaked firmware.
I ran CRA5 (first leaked Oreo build) and Knox didn't care, and I'm running CRB6 (second updated leak) and Knox STILL didn't care. You won't get OTAs; instead, to restore OTA functionality, you have to replace the leaked firmware with official firmware (and since the leaks are AT&T Mobility-based, and I'm on T-Mobile, that makes a ton of sense, at least to me).
Leaked AT&T Mobility firmware, on the T-Mobile side of Tracfone, on an ex-VZW Samsung Galaxy S7 (Snapdragon) - and this is a locked phone?

I didn't quitly understand, but thank you, knox is a physical "fuse" that, if tripped, is definitivly irrevesible

S8 stuck on October update

Since October 2018 I stopped receiving updates via OTA. I'm thinking about updating the phone with Odin but I don't want to trip Knox so I don't really know what version of the Rom to install.
My S8 is a SM-G950F unlocked with CSC - DBT, that's all I know. And when I check for updates it says: Current version: G950FXUU4CRJ5/G950FOXM4CRJ3/G950FXXU4CRI9.
What rom do I need to flash?

Have you tried manual update in settings?
You could also try Samsung's smart switch to update to latest version.
If you want to download firmware and use Odin then use either sammobile.com or updato.com. or samfirm.
Using Odin to flash official stock rom will not trip your Knox.
I normally use updato for my firmware or samfirm

Latest version I think for Germany DBT is G950FXXU4DSCB ( March ) android version 9 (pie).
I've tried manual update and Smart Switch too and no success. It says I'm on the latest update. I guess I'll try Odin and flash Pie.
I am also facing the same issue. Mine is SM-G950FD. I bought it online, not from official channels. How about you? I have a small suspicion if Samsung is blacklisting phones purchased unofficially. I hope I am wrong.
Well I bought mine from Amazon Germany from a verified seller and for a few months I received updates, but since October 2018 no more. Why would they blacklist my phone?
Sorry. I didn't mean to imply that they are blacklisting. I was just being a bit paranoid thinking may be Samsung blacklisted my phone since I bought it unofficially.
I have a new theory. Looks like many people who bought phones from one country (UAE in particular) had their phone sensors bricked after an OTA update while they were in a different country. That may explain why Samsung is not updating my phone (mine is from UAE).
